I've never had my air vents cleaned. You never think to have these types of services done until you have a fire at your place (neighbor's fault) and everything is smoke damaged. It was nearing the end of my construction and this was one of the things on my checklist prior to moving back in. My HVAC guys (Ventwerx) referred me out to Elos and since I trusted the work they did for me, I went with them. Wayne was easy to work with. The appointment was made and both Wayne and Eddie showed up 5 minutes before the actual appointment time. They had their equipment ready to go and as you can see from the pictures, they came in and took care to open up all of my vents. It was a 2 man team as Eddie would climb the ladder to unscrew the vents and Wayne would hold the hose behind him. I followed them throughout the house as they did this. I'm one to ask a lot of questions and they were more than happy to answer them. The hose almost reminded me of the same one you have at the dentists office-- only this one is on a much bigger scale. Since I only have a total of 6 vents, the job was done in about an hour. It was quick, painless and efficient-- just the way I like it. I was about to change the whole air duct system in my house since most companies I interviewed recommended an expensive reinstallation of the ducts. We had never had our dryer vents cleaned because I didn't know this was something one should be doing on a regular basis. My parents had never done it so I only learned about it after reading an article where someone died in a fire due to an unclean dryer vent. I also saw it was one of the main causes of house fires so I made a call to my HVAC company. They said they didn't clean dryer vents but they recommended Elos so I gave them a call. Regarding the review that dinged them on abestos-most if not ALL older homes here in California have asbestos around air ducts/heaters etc.Wayne explained how they do not disturb the asbestos and rest assure nothing "friable" will be released into your home. The cleaning is INSIDE the vents. We had a mouse infestation & pest company advised us to clean out air ducts/vents. In our previous house we had one of those bait & switch duct cleaning companies that tried to upsell us everything - deodorizers, toxic cleaners etc. Didn't want to go through a shady company like that again people on Next-door.com swore by ELOS so I called them. They came out & cleaned out all our air ducts/registers. They also discovered a problem with our main register with a cover that didn't fit well so it wasn't allowing air to flow correctly. I told them to go ahead & install a new one and wow, looks so much better! They also cleaned out the dryer vent and they explained how to tell when it's time to clean it out again. Wayne is what I call a duct geek. Take it from me, my friends call me a Yelp geek. Dude has one of those forehead lights, how cool is that? Seriously, he is very enthusiastic and is only interested in making sure that air is flowing uninterrupted through your HVAC system. I called several duct cleaning services and not only were Wayne's rates as good or better than his competition, but he was the only one who took the time to get into the crawl space to assess what was going on during just the estimate phase. He was able to get a good view of everything that needed repair (some ducts were crushed or routed incorrectly.) Wayne provided an honest quote, always kept in contact, and finished the work in one day and ran just under $1k. He uses a pretty hefty vacuum device (shown in photos) and was able to pull almost a shopping bag full of debris from inside my ducts and registers. Took 150 dollars for that. Later again the problem continued, so we went ahead with different service. That new guy cleans for two hours and now our vent is working fine. So we called Elas to talk about this, and the man started yelling at us. We ended up fighting back! and he cut the call. No refund nothing! I recently used ELOS Duct Cleaning and have had time to thinking about the performed service. The two person team arrived on time, and gave me a courtesy call they were on the way, and took off their shoes while inside. After giving them the tour of where all the vents are, they unloaded their large handcart vacuum and both of them wheeled it to my top floor. They explained the vacuum apparatus that it contains three filters, the top filter gets changed for each location collecting large debris, while the other filters gets changed after a few uses. They also explained the compressed air hose, that it blows air backwards, while the large vacuum hose sucks all the floating debris that is handheld at the vent. So the first vent is on a ceiling that is angled about 45deg, the hose will be going against gravity and incline. The compressed air hose is maybe 20', so there's a possibility it won't reach ducts far away. I have my doubts all of my ducts were throughly cleaned, namely the central/core ducts. I ask if they go all the way down to the furnace, but was told they clean from the register and the ducts join to a central duct, the next vent would clean the rest, and so on. Anyways, after the first vent, I let them do their thing. When they moved the vacuum downstairs, I went up to check things over and found some black marks left by the hose they draped over the wood railings. When notified, they promptly cleaned it with their baby-wipes. I then went and checked my other walls where the hose was cornering and placed a buffer to prevent future marks. Oh yea, good thing I placed a sheet over the beds, they didn't put any tarp on the floor, and after they left I went and vacuumed my carpets of drywall flakes. The next set of ducts were easy, they were off the floor, and went through in about five minutes. They also cleaned the returns and also scraped some flaking paint from inside the metal flashing. The last floor took a bit longer, just due to the amount of construction junk that was left under the furnace platform a decade ago. So at $30/vent, my ducts were cleaned... to a certain length. I still have my doubts the central ducts are clean. Other than checking on my furnace filter (who said wasn't that dirty, whereas another company said its time to change it) and baby wiping part of the inside furnace, nothing else was cleaned on the unit. Which is a different service. They also didn't turn on the furnace to reinspect the ducts for any debris that might later blow out. They did adjust the furnace filter hook so that my air filter would stay down. Actually, they macgyver'd it. But I later found out that it would have worked fine in the original location with the hooks coming down to hold the filter. While every vendor does their process differently and offer different services, I would have preferred that my ducts were sucked from a central location and that it was internally cleaned all the way to the furnace. I went with ELOS because they told me "they do it the right way" when I spoke to them on the phone. They finished in about two hours, wrote up the quote/paperwork at the end. I've used the heater a few times since the cleaning, granted I only use it a total of no more than 48hrs/yr (I like the cold) , the rooms warm up faster then before the cleaning but I think that happened whenever I change to a new filter. Whether it was the cleaning or the air filter change that helped.... that will be answered next year when I change the filter again. read more

I noticed soon after moving into my new house that my dryer was taking more than one cycle to dry my clothes. Then last week, I noticed that the dryer vent on the roof was basically caked with lint...I found Elos here on YELP and called them. They quoted me $100 - $200 to clean the vent and was able to squeeze me in that day with the end cost being $130 to basically de-lintify the vent going from the dryer to to the roof (when they arrived, Wayne said he felt almost no air flow coming from it, it was flowing freely when they left). I've dryed two loads of clothes since then and now my dryer is working just fine and I've probably minimized any potential fire risks at the same time. Thanks guys! P.S. Hi Yelpers!! Yesterday, we contact Elos via telephone by searching for an Air Duct service through Yelp reviews. They scheduled a next day cleaning for my house for two return vents, nine air vents and one dryer vent. Just over a year ago, we contact COIT to do an Air Duct service and we were VERY disappointed after we received such an exceptional service from Elos. Wayne, the owner was very knowledgeable, honest, prompt, and does not up sale his service/products. Wayne and his Assistant, Steve worked diligently to get the vent done correctly and clean. Steve even crawled inside the return vent to make sure all the lent are completely gone. They use baby wipes to wipe down the vent covers and to ensure they do not scratch any of our vents. We will definitely contact Elos again for our future Air Duct Service. Furthermore, we are seriously thinking about purchasing the life time filters from Elos. OUTSTANDING SERVICE and deserve 5++ star. read more

I had Elos clean the ducts on my arcadia tri-level with about 15-18 registers (vents) and I think they did a pretty good job. I had some coupons from other services that can do it quite cheaply, less than a $100 for the whole house. After calling around a few places and asking how it's done I decided to go with Elos. The cheaper guys do a negative something or other where they hookup a strong vacuum to a central location, like you furnace or return air register. The flip it on and walk around to each vent and blow compressed air into it, not even taking of the cover. To me it sounds like that would only get to debris that is stuck in the first few inches/feet of the duct. Elos uses a large vacuum that they wheel around in your house, then the registers are removed and a reverse jet air nozzle is dropped into your duct from the register and compressed air is blown backwards as the nozzle is pulled back. The large vacuum is placed at the register and vacuums up all the debris. They showed me the vacuum collector afterwards and there was lots of nasty stuff in there. I had them come out because anytime the heater comes on my throat starts to feel a little funny, some kind of allergic reaction I think. Since the cleaning the furnace seems to flow better (more air), and while it didn't completely cure the allergic reaction I get, it is better. Mind you we have a super old furnace (circa 1970) that needs to be replaced. I don't think this is a service you need routinely, but our house was built in 70 and I honestly don't think it had ever been done. I might do it every 10 years or so. The only negative was the price. It was considerably more than the cheap guys. But any service that cleans the ducts from each register will run you in the neighborhood of $30/duct (I checked around). I was able to negotiate a lower price with Elos, so you might give it a try. read more

$30 per duct or $200 minimum (check/cash) We couldn't use another company with a negative air method due to our furnace location so was referred to Elos by Pelle. We set up our appointment three weeks in advance and Wayne arrived on the day of on time. Wayne came in with his assistant, took a look at our ducts, and started work immediately moving from the bedroom to the front of the condo and finished within one hour. He cleaned the vent covers (so that there is no longer dust hanging from them) and removed dried up paint from within the vent interior. He managed to pull a big wad of lint from our dryer vent. He even advised my boyfriend as to how to replace the air filter for the intake vent. He was going to climb the roof to check the dryer cap but the roof extends to the length of our patio. The only indication that Elos was at our place is our cleaner air ducts (no dirt marks or residue left). Elos was on time with a courtesy call, completed the job, and was professional. All in all, I am satisfied with the performance (but don't have any other company for comparison). I would definitely use them again. I would just recommend that they do a confirmation call a day beforehand. I'm sure if you wanted your vents super clean, you would have to use a negative air vent cleaning company and one that sucks from the vents like Elos, but I feel that the work Elos did was sufficient for our home. read more

I found Elos on yelp and was very impressed with Wayne (owner) and his team ! First, their estimate for my dryer exhaust vent cleaning was lower than other companies I had rang and Wayne told me that he would charge me fairly depending on how much lint was stuck in my vent pipe which is fair enough, more lint means a longer job for them. He gave me an estimate of $120 to $200 for which my (small) job would probably fit into the $120-$150 range. There was no pressure from him which was nice and he was very pleasant and helpful to speak with. I made an appointment for a few days later, they rang when they were 20 mins away. They finished the job (Wayne and 2 others) in around 15 mins and cleaned up well. All of them were very professional and courteous. They even showed me how much lint was removed which wasn't a lot. Wayne then explained to me that my 2 small plastic connector pipes connected to the main metal vent pipe were not up to code and could melt easily and also were not attached to the main metal pipe very well so they could come away at any time. He suggested I go to a hardware store and replace the plastic connectors with non-plastic ones and explained how to attach them to the main pipe. I really appreciated his feedback and he didn't push for his team to do the job. In the end I asked him how much for his team to do the small job for me and we settled on a nominal price which saved me some time since he was already at my house and he had the parts in his truck. The whole time, Wayne was very friendly, easy going, honest and pleasant to deal with. I felt like I was in good hands and was not going to be hoodwinked or ripped off.
