Amazing Service! About a year ago, James came to my house because my heater kept causing my Ecobee thermostat to restart. He clearly explained why it was happening and found a great solution. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and very fair with his pricing. Today, he came back to check on my whole-house humidifier, which I thought wasn't working. He went up into the attic, checked both the thermostat and humidistat, and confirmed everything was functioning properly. He even reset the humidistat setup and took the time to explain everything to me. James was here for more than 30 minutes and didn't charge me -- even though I offered to pay several times. I found James through Yelp and boy am I glad I did. My three-story condo had a huge gas furnace. When I was told it had to be removed (water damage coming from beneath it), every other HVAC company told me the only option was to replace it. But my heating was terrible - the ductwork was lousy - only one zone for three floors, the first floor never got warm in winter, expensive. James took his time really studying the situation (coming back repeatedly) and came up with a plan for two heat pumps - one ducted, one ductless, with three zones. He worked with my contractor to really solve my problems with a very difficult lay-out. He was also very reasonably priced (compared to others). I've now had my HVAC (both heating/cooling) for two years - and my house is always comfortable - in every room, every floor. It's also less expensive than my old gas furnace. I have a 2 story house and the 2nd floor was always much much warmer than the first floor. It was about a 8 degree difference between the two floors. I got about 7 quotes from reputable HVAC contractors with many different recommendations and strong opinions from pretty much every company. James was unique, he looked over my current system, asked me what my goals were, and recommended a couple options. He was not pushy whatsoever. I was mulling overt the 2 options (Option 1: Zoning. Option 2: 2 separate air handlers for each floor). I ended up going with Option 2 as I wanted to control the temperature differently on 2 separate areas of the house and the zoning option was a mechanic damper and would only partially address my air flow issues. The price was really competitive. The crew arrived on time and kept things neat and tidy. The 3 day job ended up taking 2 full days (until 7pm) and we could not be happier with the results. Simple stuff like trapping the dust from drywall cutting and noticing that the register was installed too high and likely to interfere with future work which I did not specify. James also suggested locating the outdoor unit around the bathrooms away from the bedrooms for winter time decompression noise. Other estimates were going to install the unit right outside of the bedroom window for ease of install. I had such a great experience with Rescue Air Service! We were referred by a friend who had used them, and I was really impressed from beginning to end. We got a new furnace and air conditioner for our house, and a ceiling-mounted split system for a detached room. I had gotten other estimates from companies who recommended a range of choices that really varied in price but didn't explain what the differences were. I know nothing about HVAC, and James took a lot of time to talk me through the options and explain what he thought would be best for us. When we set up the installation dates, he estimated that everything would take 3-4 days. On the day they started, our project manager, Andres, said it would likely be faster but they prefer to allot more time just in case they need it. Andres and the whole team were awesome--and they completed the entire project in just 2 days. And both Andres and James were very thorough in answering all of our questions about the new systems. On top of that, James handled getting the Los Altos permits, and oversaw the inspection. He also coordinated with an energy audit company so that we could get a rebate. I appreciated that all of this was included in his original estimate (other companies we got estimates from listed permits, etc. as separate charges, and no one else mentioned the possibility of a rebate, which was significant.) Our neighbor recommended James & team to replace our furnace. We contacted him through Yelp that night and he visited us the next day, talked to us about our options & provided an ideal quote. His team showed up early and replaced a very old furnace and cleaned up nicely. We were so grateful because most of February our old furnace was not working right, and we spent a great deal of time bundled in 4 layers of clothes. Our old AC/furnace repair shop was good until they charged us $1500 to repair a "last gasp" furnace instead of replacing it. Then, it worked for only 2 weeks, and they quoted us another $2K to repair it! Shame on us for letting them repair a terminal furnace! That was the beginning of a very cold month. Rescue air seriously came to the rescue for us tonight. Of course, your AC only fails on the hottest day of the year, right? I called James at 5:15 pm when I realized our AC had been pumping hot air into the house all day. James was in the area already. He came over within 15 minutes and figured out that our capacitor had failed. He had one in his truck and was able to replace it within about 10 minutes. James and his team have been taking care of us for almost a decade now. He just completed a full HVAC upgrade, including upstairs and downstairs heat pumps with backup furnaces. The installation went great with very little fuss. The systems are up and running well. They are more effective and more efficient than what we had previously. I had asked James to size up my unit for upstairs. He said that it would not be appropriate to oversize my unit. Instead he just rebalanced the air flow so that the system worked more effectively, thus saving me money. He and his teams were responsive to all of my requests during installation, include the aesthetics of the installation. The staff were all very nice and hardworking and continued their work late into the night. The house suffered surprisingly little damage despite the size of the equipment bring brought up and down the stairs and throughout the house. After the installation was done, we noticed a problem in our garage. Turned out to be a water heater rupture unrelated to the install. I called James, and he offered to come out and help anyway. A few months ago, my AC decided to act up during the heat wave and I desperately needed to contact someone for help. I immediately contacted Rescue Air Service because I remembered working with them in the past. James, the owner is hands down very honest, upfront and detailed when it comes to his work. He was able to diagnose the problem (AC drain line needed to be flushed) and fix it the same day. I was so thankful he was able to fix the issue the same day and have the AC back up and running. Felt bad since he had to climb up into our attic where it was scorching hot. While James was taking care of the main issue, he also looked at the furnace. He suggested to replace the furnace and AC all at once when we were ready to make that decision since they're pretty old (30+ years). He drafted up a quote and had it E-mailed to me within a few days. As of today and knock on wood, our AC is working just fine and got us through the hot California heat waves. James of Rescue Air Service was highly recommended on a fb construction group. Since he was busy (booked 2 weeks out) when I needed urgent service with furnace failure, I found another highly rated HVAC company on Yelp with over 200 4.5 star reviews. Since the furnace igniter had failed in the past and the it's a common problem with the furnace in this community, I asked that OTHER HVAC company to come and diagnose/fix the issue. That company gave me a quote of $140 service charge plus $275 if I need to replace the igniter. It was much higher than my previous repair bill. But since it's urgent, I decided to ask them to come out. They took a few photos of the furnace and told me it's starting to rust and they did not want to take risk repairing it and shut off the gas to the furnace. They gave me an estimate of $3650 to replace the furnace. I highly doubt the diagnosis. I called James of Rescue Air Service again right after they left and explain to him the situation, and he was able to squeeze some time to come over to take a look on the same day. As I expected, the igniter went bad. James replaced the igniter for me for a very reasonable fee (service charge + the cost of the igniter). I could tell he did not inflate the cost of the igniter like some HVAC company would do when you need your heater on a cold day. A few weeks later, my ecobee thermostat lost power. I asked James to help me take a look. We both agreed it's not related to the previous service. James was busy and scheduled a visit 2 weeks later. The weather has been warm, so it was not a problem to wait. Today, James came out to help diagnose the issue. He found the fuse was blown. He did not have this particular model of fuse with him, so he asked me to search for homedepot and amazon to find the correct one to purchase and replace and told me how to replace it. I was prepared to pay him the trip charge, but he declined it. I just purchased a fuse from home depot and put it in. My HVAC system came back alive! Yay! I wish I had the technician's name but he took care of the problem so quickly I never got it. He was not only fast, but honest and reasonable. My AC and Heater stopped working. My regular HVAC guy said that the control wire had been chewed through by a rodent and needed to be replaced, but he (my regular guy) was too big to navigate the crawl space to do the job. A different company came out and confirmed the control wire needed to be replaced as well as a fuse, but said that the circuit board on the furnace was also bad and that it was no longer made. Because of this, they said the entire furnace needed to be replaced for an estimate of $2850. They also recommended replacing the AC unit for a total of $7500. This sounded questionable so I called Rescue Air Service for a second opinion. Rescue Air Service confirmed the control wire needed to be replaced, looked at the furnace, saw that a fuse had been blown and replaced that as well. The technician went into the crawl space (he was much smaller than my regular HVAC guy) and replaced the control wire. He had my AC and furnace running within an hour. Miraculously there was nothing wrong with the circuit board on the furnace. Total bill: $150. He left no mess and explained how I could seal up two holes where he thought rodents were getting into the crawl space beneath my house. The only complaint I could lodge was that he was a few minutes late for the scheduled appointment, but he texted to let me know he was running late and I suppose that when you are good at your job and honest you're probably in high demand. Hello, A few months ago, on a cold Friday morning, our old furnace went off after triggering the fire alarm. We had a home warranty coverage, but it was frustrating to find out the repair companies the warranty recommended could not even schedule the inspection until later the next week. We contacted Rescue Air and James as one of my colleagues strongly recommended him. I gave him a call around noon, and he came to diagnose our dead furnace the same afternoon. With a quick investigation, James found out the controller board was burnt. Then he gave us all possible options including just replacing the controller, replacing the old furnace with a similar unit, and upgrading it with high efficiency model. As the old one was more than 20 years old, we decided to replace the furnace. After getting quotes from several other companies, we realized James gave us very reasonable pricing. It was even competitive after taking into account the home warranty coverage another company could use. We decided to go with Rescue Air and James scheduled the work in a couple days. The work went very smooth. The crew arrived on time and finished the work by the promised time. The crew was friendly during the work and cleaned up the place perfectly. After everything was done, James double checked every small details and made sure everything is in place. We have been using the furnace well and we're very happy with the quality work. Rescue Air also took care of the city permit and the rebate. The city inspector picked up something not very related to the furnace work. The furnace is in our garage sharing the wall with the washer and dryer. The previous owner opened up the wall probably in order to install washer and dryer but didn't close it. The inspector said it's a fire code violation. Then, James took care of it for free, even though it had nothing to do with the furnace work he promised. His crew again cleanly finished the patch work and we were not charged any extra. As we're relatively new homeowners, we asked many questions throughout the process. I guess I just had bad luck with James, but I called twice and was basically brushed off both times. Granted I don't have a huge project, but at the least be willing to tell me that? I called him about 2 years ago to install AC in our place. He told me he was too busy and it would probably be 3 months before he could even make it out to give me a quote. Zero interest in trying to do it, he almost made it seem like I was bothering him so I told him I'd try again next season. I thought it was a fluke, so called him again several months ago -- again, said it would be a 3 month wait, and I told him fine (this is because of all the positive reviews). I was willing to wait and not in a hurry. I heard him flipping some pages in a notebook or something and then he asked me more about the work I wanted to get done (inspect our ducts and potentially install new AC). He told me there was a fee for the inspection ($150 or something?) and if everything was OK I'd still have to pay. Sure, that's totally reasonable. After a few seconds I hear some hesitation in his voice and he just told me to call some other guy he is referring me to. So after 2 phone calls trying to get this guy to install an AC unit for me, he just brushes me off for what I assume are bigger jobs. Maybe he's a nice guy once he feels like working with you, but I only got frustrated and ended up using someone else. read more
