I talked to Jim to get a quote on upgrading from gas to heat pump AC. I live in a Manufactured Home and I don't have many Amps of electricity going to my unit. Jim came and looked at my setup. Not only did he recommend an AC Heat pump unit I was looking at online but he also said he would help as much as possible with getting rebates through. I used DG Heating back in 2017 for a dryer vent installation, and couple of years ago for an AC fix. Although their charge was a bit higher, both jobs were done pretty well. So when the AC heating was down I went for them again. This time the technician finished the job with good quality and great attitude, so this review is not against him. When I made the phone call I was told it's $xxx per hour with 1 hour minimum. I was not told that 1) They charge 15 mins driving time for each job, so it's actually $xxx for the first 45 mins, e.g. in case you would like to compare it with other vendors. 2) The 2nd hour charge kicks in once the clocks passes 1 hour, e.g. 50 mins of work time would be same price as 105 mins (since they add 15 mins driving time on top of it). Also there has been back and forth discussions on the charge. When I called at the end of the service day (Friday) and questioned the charge, the receptionist said the travel time should not have been charged and someone would contact me the next Monday. I didn't hear back the next couple of days so I called the next Thursday and they returned my call and that's when I found about the logic of the calculation behind my charge. I guess it's because the previous two jobs one was a fixed charge job and the second one was within 1 hour so I was never aware of what's included in their hourly rate. But I think it would be worth to at least mention the driving time to future customers in the initial quote as well as each hour is billed as a whole. read more

I called DG this morning around 10am and was informed that a technician should arrive between 10:30 to 12:30 and received a text message that a technician named, Brandon Bejinez was on his way. The same Brandon that is mentioned here on Yelp with lots of good reviews. And Brandon did not disappoint. Arrived on time, was very professional, direct to the point, asked what the issue was (i.e. no heat), asked where the heater was, checked it and quickly identified the issue, explained the issue and what needs to be done, went ahead and performed the fix and he was out the door in 30 minutes. After servicing my DG installed wall furnace, there remained some annoying glitches. The thermostat seemed to be malfunctioning. But after three visits to my house to try to fix it, BRANDON was sent out and had the problem solved in short order. Ask for him if you do business with DG. I would add a sixth star after dealing with Brandon. My furnace is operating perfectly now. All this after a year and a half after installing the furnace and no extra charge. This is the second time I have used DG, both times I was impressed. Brandon arrived right in the middle of the time window and was professional and courteous. Our AC had not been blowing as cold as we expected. He asked a few questions and said he had an idea and checked a few things. I had a sense at what it might cost but when he was finished he gave me the bill which was a little below what I expected and a reasonable price. We installed HVAC system with DG heating & air conditioning by the end of August. Their quote is not the cheapest one but considering the fact that they are a dealer of American standard, I am hoping that the dollars spent will save me troubles. Yet right now I am on yelp and giving it one star. The cooling was working fine after installation. However, by late October when heating is needed, it blew no hot air. It is just room temperature air. I started contacting DG heating & ac at that time. Now two months later, this issue was still not diagnosed nor did it go away, after 4 visits from the company staffs including the owner. After I made first phone call for this issue, the technician they dispatched claimed it was a reverse valve issue and the pressure needs to be adjusted. He released some refrigerant and then added some to fine tune the pressure. told us to wait until 7 or 8pm to turn on the heat. It worked that night. A couple of weeks later, it stopped blowing hot air again. I had to call again and they said no one can come until the day after. The owner did come take a look. I had to inform my manager that i need to go home since the HVAC guys were coming. The owner asked me to turn on the heat. Then he asked me if the system has always been this loud. I said yes and we have to turn it off at night because it is right next to bedrooms and is very loud. He brought on his business partner for a conference call and they guessed it could be a reverse valve issue. Then he left. The second day, in the morning, I turned on the heat and it produced some lukewarm air and then stopped working again by just circulating room temperature air. Another technician came. Yes i have to tell my manager again I will be working from home. The technician changed the filter although the original filter looks really clean to me. He said the electronic HVAC is really picky and any dust will make it working too hard. OK, I am fine with that so long it really solves the issue. He also said that the electric HVAC system is new to everyone and people are still in learning curves about this HVAC. Hello, I hope someone told me that when DG suggested me to replace the gas furnace with HVAC. I initially was only thinking of changing the air conditioner. I told him that the previous technician said it was reverse valve issue. He said it doesn't look like so and told me the technician is no longer with them. He thinks it is probably due to the fact that the HVAC gets into defrosting process since the weather was cold for that two days. At the time that he was in my house, the heating function was working again. So there is not much he can do. He does promise that he will bring this up to his company and an expert on HVAC will come. So the day after the second tech's visit, I called and told the front desk that I am expecting an expert will come to fix this once and for all. They did dispatch a third person to look at the issue. He told me that the ecobee thermostat was off by 9 degree and the HVAC was thinking the temp is too low so it goes to defrosting instead of heating. hello again, your sales rep suggested me to install ecobee. And from my observation, the thermostat gave me the same room temperature as my electric kettle. Anyway he already did the adjustment even before telling me his suspicion on the thermostat. I didn't feel comfortable to ask him to change it back. He also informed me that I need to take a look at the heat pump and see if it does have frost when stops working. If it stopped working yet there is no frost, give them a call. So we live with a thermostat that is way off the real room temperature. It means that if it tells you the temp is 75, the real temp is actually only 66F. That is a disaster. the ecobee only allows heat up to 75 so it means the room temperature can only be increased to 66. We are busy with work and winter holiday preparations and didn't have time to call DG again until 12/26. I was working in my yard on 12/26, noticing the HVAC gave loud roar. I went inside to check the heat. not surprisingly it stopped working again. and there is no frost on heat pump. So as suggested by their third tech, I called DG heating & air conditioning. Got the message that their office is closed until 01/02/2025. I left a message still just hoping that someone will keep an eye on this line since a cold christmas and new year is not in my plan when DG installed the brand new HVAC for me just four months back. To summarize, my 4 months new HVAC (American Standard heat pump, DG is a dealer of this brand), with various warranties promised, cannot produce heat as expected when needed. After four visits from the company and their various diagnosis, I was left in a cold winter holiday wondering what I did wrong. read more

When decision time came, we confidently chose DG. Before making the installation appointment, I had some concerns and items that I wanted to be put in writing on the contract. The day of the installation, the workers showed up promptly...actually 5-10 minutes early which was great. They were ALL friendly, competent and very CLEAN. They respected our property outside AND inside. Unlike some contractors, they did NOT leave garbage around, put dirty hand prints everywhere, step all over the place with their dirty shoes/boots, etc. They were always careful and they meticulously abided by Covid 19 protocols. You can trust them completely during this pandemic time. I'm a clean person with a very clean house...and after the work, it was as if they were never there! Another special thanks to Jose who went out of his way to help us clean our sky window in one of our rooms since he had a long ladder available. That was very kind of him to do that. The install was done on time and as promised. Actually they finished 1.5 hours early! I did not have my checkbook handy to pay at the time, so I called their office to see if I can drop a check off the next day. They told me absolutely no problem. Eddie did a great job diagnosing and repairing our broken Mr. Cool mini-split AC unit. Basically, the AC would only work when multiple units were turned on, but wouldn't cool at all when only one of the mini splits was on. After contacting a few other local repair companies who said they wouldn't work on Mr. Cool units, we reached out to DG. We had an initial diagnosis appointment which lasted about 1 hr, in which Eddie discovered that two of the mini splits had their wires switched during the initial installation, which caused them to not function properly. We scheduled a follow-up repair appointment which lasted about 4 hours, during which the repair was conducted. Apparently, the contractors who initially installed the unit made several mistakes with the wiring which Eddie was able to repair. He was very professional the whole way, and explained the root cause of the issue, and performed tests to ensure that the problem was truly fixed before leaving the site. John is the most helpful and honest person there is. Our first encounter with him was for an estimate for a split type system as the AC installed in our home was not cooling our 2nd floor. He was the third company we asked for an estimate The other two companies gave us an estimate of about $12,000 to $15,000 for the split type system. Upon arrival he saw that our AC was fairly new and he recommended a booster fan that will blow the cool air to the second floor. His estimate for the booster fan was only $1,800 and he even told us if it does not meet our satisfaction, he will give us our money back. When we decided on the booster fan, we made a second appointment with him so he can take a look at our AC more closely. Upon checking the AC and all the vents in the house on his second visit, he found that a valve in the garage by the AC duct that was completely closed. He showed it to my husband and said that was the cause of why the 2nd floor was not getting the cold air. He checked all the vents on the 2nd floor once the AC started to make sure it was cooling down. We offered to pay him for his time and trouble for resolving our problem, but he refused and was just glad he could help. Very nice guy and above all so honest !! read more

The crew was very respectful, clean, and organized. They completed the job in a span of 4 days. Everyone on the team is really experienced and knows his stuff. Everyone knew exactly what to do when. In my case, my house ceilings are lathe and plaster and so cutting openings for the units was not easy. Additionally my roof is rather shallow, thereby not leaving much room in the attic to maneuver. Nonetheless, the DG team deftly handled the challenge carefully mounting the flush-mount units with solid reframing. All the while they were careful to keep the installation areas clean and carefully maintain social distancing protocols. We got our AC installed with DG 7 years back and recently we started hearing a popping sound everytime the heating or AC turned on. We needed AC tuning too, so I called and was able to get an appointment right away for the next day. 2 people came over and they struggled a bit with the popping sound, added several fixes but were ultimately able to fix the issue for us. It was time to replace my 70 year old ducts and 30 year old gas furnace. I favored a change to a ducted heat pump system and talked to 6 contractors before I found the right one - DG. Besides the estimator Kyle, the owners -John and Mike - personally came out to assess the job and configure the system. Their price was in the middle of my quotes and I liked their choice of equipment more than any of the others.The installers, Alberto and his crew, took great pride in their work and did a wonderful job. They consulted me when decisions needed to be made and threw in a few nice extras like replacing some 20 year old duct runs and adding a line from my electrical panel in case I have a heat pump water heater in my future. This comment is only on the service I received on the phone. I chose not to proceed with any work. I was eager to have them quote a variety of work on our house and saw they did solar as well which seemed like a great opportunity to get major upgrades to our house down with one seemingly reputable place. I wanted to know some ball park costs and ask more about what types of panels they used to get a proper understanding of their solar system. Apparently asking these questions with the woman that was helping me was something the owner didn't like. Here's the response I got when she directed my question to him "Are you just trying to waste our time so you have a quote to shop around with or are you actually interested in solar?" Apparently asking questions demonstrated I'm not interested. I withheld speaking back to him and proceeded to ask again. They are new in this area of business. After waiting another 1.5-2 weeks for response and quote (this was understandable. The individual that works on the solar business side told me he was out on PTO) it was clear they don't use the best or affordable solar panels and price per watt was too high to be competitive. Lastly - if there is only one person in the company I can talk to about solar, not sure I can trust the longevity of any service or warranty claims that might arise. I also had some other work quoted while I waited for our heating and AC thinking I could just stick with their main stays. I couldn't move forward given how they treated me over the phone. Maybe it was just a bad day but hey... I won't spend 20k+ on any work solar, ac, or heating on a very bad first impression and mediocre second impression. read more

I called DG to have them come out and give a quote to install an attic fan. The gentleman arrived on time, and I said I would take him to the attic. He said he didn't need to see the attic, he only needed to know what kind of roof I had. He ultimately looked in the attic because I pushed him to do it but he had no intention of looking. Rather than replace one of the attic vents with a fan, he didn't need to see the attic because his plan, as long as he knew I had a composite roof, was to cut a hole in the roof, install flashing and put the fan there. He had determined this before even looking in the attic. The bid? $4768. The next folks who came to bid were also highly rated on Yelp. They went into the attic, had a discussion with me about where they could run electricity for the fan, and also noticed that my ventilation tubing exterior was all peeling off. Their bid to install the attic fan at an existing attic vent, AND replace all the existing duct work? $4800. I had a feeling you were trying to rip me off. Because you were. Now I know you will reply claiming I didn't understand, or that his solution works better. But my fan is installed and I have tested it now to see how effective it is and it clearly will cool off my attic on those cool nights after an extremely hot day. But the facts are that your employee who came to bid on installing an attic fan said that he didn't even actually have to come out to my house to do the estimate because as long as he knew I had a composite roof, he knew what the price would be. He had no intention of finding a more affordable solution by placing a fan near the already existing exterior vents. I used another highly rate firm on Yelp, and they installed an attic fan that I can control via my cell phone and it is working great. And oh yes, I also have new duct work as well for the same price as you wanted for just a fan. read more

This is an overdue review for a project that was done back in January. The ask was to install ductwork to replace a ductless OTR microwave with a kitchen vent, as well as installing an additional gas line to replace our electric range with a gas range in our two-story townhome. This was not an easy or common task, but Mike and Louis came to inspect the situation in November 2018. The project was scheduled to start in January 2019. DG was the only company that answered my phone call when our AC broke down after a particularly hot day. Everyone else had full voicemail boxes, wasn't answering their phones, or responding to email or Yelp direct messages. Because it's smack dab in the middle of a heat wave they were understandably booked up but I was able to get someone to come check out our machine a week later. They worked really fast once they got on the job; I doubt he was in our home longer then 20 minutes! Luckily for us we only had a blown capacitor. He quickly swapped it out and I felt the price for the whole service was reasonable. The service tech was very nice and even brought me my newspaper which he would've had to go out of his way to get since it's not in the pathway to our front door.
