My family and I our giving this place a 1/5 stars because the rib eye was dry,thin, and seemed like a rubber sole. The charro beans were ranch styled canned beans. The chicken was dry and thin as well. The mushroom sauce was nasty. My sister had the "trio platter" and the enchiladas sauce was great BUT the tortilla was hard. The flautas were burnt, the queso sauce that came with it was cold thAnkfully the flautas were so hot that it warmed up my queso. The word "elote" always sparks a little hunger in my belly! I do love me some corn! Especially Mexican corn. This place is in the Kroger shopping plaza where there is ample parking. Upon walking in, this place almost looks fancy enough to be a restaurant but alas it is counter service which is fine and dandy. On my last visit I got myself some chips and queso to start, side of elote and some al pastor street tacos. Everything was good but not great. I'd eat here again if I am in the area. Now for a place to be called elote and then you have the menu item called "elote especial" I expect this corn to be special. It looked and tasted good but for $2.99 I think I expected more and than a little side dish. I can go down the road and get a big cup if it from the Mexican supermarket parking lot and they put all sorts of fixins in there. Just ate here for the first time, and was pleasantly surprised. My expectations were low because I haven't noticed much activity around the restaurant, and being as how it's in a strip mall, I just didn't think it would be good. Not only was the food good, but the service was excellent, and the prices were very affordable. If you're wanting a nice sit down Mexican food restaurant like Mi Cocina, this isn't the place for you. It's a fast food establishment, where you order at the register, and they call your number (think Rosas). The food was fresh and hot when it came out, unlike other places where your food is cold! I really enjoyed the white queso, and the Mexican corn on the cob was very authentic. The only complaint I can think of, is my cheese enchiladas with sour cream sauce were completely doused in sour cream. Next time I know to ask them to go light on the sauce. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and described everything on the menu for us, since it was our first time. The place was clean, they had great music playing the whole time, and the Rangers game on all four tv's. I really like the fact that it's two blocks from our house. TASTY! Just moved down the street so hubby and I stopped in for dinner after a long day of moving. I got a braised beef taco and a shredded chicken taco, rice, beans. Both were Extremely flavorful with lots of cumin, melt in mouth goodness. Hubby got a burrito with pork and and he liked it a lot . The pork was moist and tender. Both had a lot of meat! You get your choice of cilantro or Mexican rice too. This food is really great! Yes they charge for chips and salsa, but I can eat chips and salsa at home. Their quest is a white quest and really good too. We have now been here several times and the food quality is extremely consistent. Awesome as always !! Service (delivery) food and after a very hard week for them with the cold, snow, ice and lack of running water (we were on a boil water mandate from the city.) the fact that they were out of so little of their menu is incredible. They always do such a great job with the food. We had delicious flautas, Buffalo chicken wings and bare-ritos- we also got chips, salsa, quacamole, key lime pie and flan. The food is good.. Portion size for fajitas was small $13.99. The chips and fiesta questo combo is great for appetizer. One of staff member Anna came by the table asking us about food. Stopped in to elote to try it out since it's close to home. Pleasantly surprised. I had the street tacos al pastor and they were good. Not enough food to fill me up but they were good. Daughter got the chips with queso, guacamole, and salsa. Queso was odd flavored and I didn't care for it but the guac was really good and salsa good. My husband, baby and I went in today for the first time. The owners husband (I believe is what he said) was very helpful. We didn't know it was a restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring to you. He even let us sit and have us some menus to look at it. He informed us on how the menu worked and even took our order from us since we already had our baby in the high chair. Actually everyone there was friendly which you don't always find in restaurants. I ordered 2 chicken enchiladas with queso and my husband ordered a trio plate. I enjoyed my food and my husband really liked his pork taco. 1st time here was great, although it was some time ago......... tonight however, was a horrible fail. Quality of food was horrible, the staff was extremely nice and attentive, but the food fell well below average. Chips and Guac.... stale chips and flavorless over processed and mass produced guacamole, 3 bites and done. I moved to Texas in 1993. This is by far the worst Mexican food I've had since I moved here. Taquitos were frozen and not homemade. Tasted and looked like grocery store frozen taquitos. Charro beans looked and tasted like they were out of a can. read more

I've been here many times since they opened, and it seems that the food quality has plummeted. Initially, I enjoyed their crispy tacos and they're still the only thing that hasn't disappointed. I am severely underwhelmed. After discovering that they charge $7 for 3 small street tacos, I opted for a burrito. The rice and beans were somehow more along the lines of the flavor of cardboard than food. The "carne asada" tastes about as excellent as del Taco's ground beef. And to top it off, to get cilantro and onion in my burrito, they charge extra, but make no mention of it beforehand. Food is meh at best, priced probably 3x what it's worth. The cooks were Hispanic, but probably following a generic/ in house recipes not someone's family recipes. Daughter ordered the bare-rito it's a taco salad, burrito minus the tortilla. OK experience, overall. The chips and salsa are very good, but you have to pay extra for them, and they were very light on the amount of chips given. The street tacos were good, though one only gets two with the meal. The cilantro rice was a bit bland, but the charro beans were quite good. It is a bit pricey for a counter order restaurant. Unfortunately, they serve Pepsi products. Seriously, a Restaurant in Texas serving Pepsi products? A bit sad. Know thy customer base Elote! The establishment appeared clean throughout, restrooms too. Well we eat here a lot since they are right down the street. Service is going down really fast. I set on hold for 5 mins and they are always saying go online to order but online is not working. Then you have to repeat yourself 10 times before they even get your order right. I'm ok with once but today was the 4th time. The food is about average. Nothing better than most of other places. We have eaten there a few times before making any judgement. My wife and I eat Mexican food all the time and we are an older couple. But we have NEVER EVER seen a Mexican restaurant that did not give you salsa with a meal! I ordered the enchiladas and when they brought it, I was in shock when they brought the food and NO SALSA!!! Who eats Mexican food without salsa????? Yes, you can "buy" it separately, but NO WHERE we have EVER eaten didn't provide hot sauce with a meal. And we also have never eaten at a Mexican food place that not bring you chips and salsa while you waited for your meal. Come on, how much does a few chips and a bowl of hot sauce cost the owner????? Just bad manners. Their prices aren't cheap so you would think they would give you a few chips and hot sauce. We will never go back to this place due to these reasons. Just tried to order to be delivered. They closed in one hour so since I'm 3 min away I figured why not. It's Halloween I'll stay here for the kids. Called and so much talking by employees in background the girl couldn't hear me. I know it was employees because when she repeated DELIVERY one of the guys in background said awwww man IS THAT A DELIVERY??!!WTF MAN! Verbatim. So at this point I'm apprehensive. She can't understand what street. I spelled it twice and she couldn't get my number ight after giving it to her twice. Now I don't blame her. This is my experience and others can just make their own opinion.. You walk in and you order from a window...(can we say Fuzzy's taco shop exact style?) The "cashier" was kind enough to ask us if it was the first time we've visited and explained the (very small) menu to us. However, when we asked her about the beers on the right side of the top billboard (the most expensive ones) she was not able to tell us one thing about any of the beers. She was nice enough to apologize...my point is....loss money for the business. When the cashier (I say cashier because there is no waitresses at this place) repeated our order and it was wrong, we corrected it, got our beers, and choose a seat. Just to mention there was only two other customers seated in the dining area when we chose our booth. Surprisingly, I had to wipe down crumbs and pieces of food off the table. Why every table was not clean in this place, baffles me since it was dead. Our order got called and we picked up it up, it was wrong.My husband's was completely wrong. I guess a manager (?), not sure she never introduced herself. Asked us if everything came out alright, she sent the food back to get corrected. As this point, I think we were just over it. I rate this place a 2, because of exact meaning of the rating, my husband and I both said, "eh, I've experienced better." The food was good, good flavor, but just not interested in the set up, style, and type of service from a restaurant. We've eaten here twice since they opened a little over a month ago. The food is great!!! It's about a 15 minute drive for us, but we don't mind. Every bite that I've eaten at Elote has been awesome. I'm tasting it and craving it right now while I think about it. That never happens to me! I've eaten (or tasted from someone else's plate) the shredded chicken tacos (with added peppers & onions, spicy spinach and angry chiles), queso (awesome!), chips, salsa, guacamole, rice, beans, nachos (not 5 star nachos - need more cheese) and probably a few things that I can't remember right now. The food tastes so fresh and favorable. That's my favorite thing about Elote. I can't always say that about any type of restaurant, but the food here tastes like the staff just brought it to the kitchen from the market, and chopped it up and prepared it a few minutes before I ate it. 2 out of 5 stars and I gave 2 because od friendly customer service. I had taco combo for about $7. I was not impressed, the utensils were dirty, the ground beef was greasy and lacked flavor. The cilantro rice was bland. Its still pretty new but I will not return because the food was not that great. Although it is convenient, I won't take advantagebbecause its not worth the trip. Disappointed and won't be back. There was a small rock in my bare-ito (their version of a burrito bowl). It really hurt my tooth. One of the staff saw me fishing something out of my mouth and wincing in pain and she came to check on me. She got the manager/owner to come by and he agreed that it was a rock. Have been several times since my initial review and the food is decent. Good quality ingredients. But I can't get over the fact that they charge for chips and salsa (which I have never tried because I refuse to pay for it). Also, I DO NOT like that I asked for a bit of cilantro to put on my brisket tacos and was charged .50 cents for it. Not only was I charged but I wasn't told I was being charged. The owner took my order and when I asked for the cilantro he said "sure". When I get my bill he had charged me .50 cents for a dab of cilantro..hahahaha...First of all, I usually don't mind paying extra for things. It is expected for sour cream, extra cheese, guacamole, but cilantro leaves? I can get a whole bunch for .88 cents at Kroger. Since they are in the same shopping center maybe that is what I should have done. LOL. Also, if you are going to charge me extra for something I request, let me know it is going to be additional and then I can make the decision if it's worth it. This wasn't the first time I have been charged for something like this without being told it was extra at Elote. But I'm just getting around to updating my review. All in all the food is decent as I mentioned. But if there was a Taco Bueno or Taco Cabana closer I would prefer them. Elote happens to be in my neighborhood. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I have not been back since the last time I was nickle and dimed and I have posted about it on our community website and found that others have experienced the same thing.
