More like 3.5 stars. Started off with chips and salsa. The chips were warm and in smaller pieces. The salsa had a very light flavor and was on the runny side. While I don't care for chunky salsa, I would want it to be a little thicker and more flavorful. It came with two other salsas, which I did not care for. I did have to ask for a refill of salsa. I always get excited seeing mole and spicy options on the menu, so I got the cheese enchilada with mole and spicy chipotle sauce. I wasn't warned about the spice level, and it was very spicy with a strong chipotle taste that I couldn't eat. I also wasn't checked on to make sure I enjoyed the food, and I had to flag the server down for my check. I was expecting this place to be better. read more

Rarely, do I experience bad food...especially when it's billed as Mexican cuisine but today was the exception. Should have figured it out when the chips and salsa arrived. The Salsa arrives in a small tiny bowl, half filled. Least of our worry though because it was like tomato sauce with a little cilantro. Bland. We ordered the queso and we both tried the beef fajita Street tacos with homemade corn tortillas. The queso like the salsa was bland. We were looking for a new place to try out. We landed @ Maria's. We were sat quickly. The inside of the restaurant was not loud. There is a nice patio outside. The restaurant inside was beautiful. We started with Aimee's queso. It had brisket, queso, jalapeños and pico. It was $13. It was ok. The queso looked and tasted like it came from a can. My hubby got The Laredo nachos. 2 cheese, 2 chicken, 2 beef fajita and 2 shrimp nachos. He said they were good, a little greasy, works great for an appetizer. I had the Spicy Chipotle Chicken enchiladas with rice and bean soup. The server let me know they were pretty spicy. I can stand spicy. Let's give 'er a go! I took the first bite and questioned my ability to handle the heat. I took a little bit of my hubby's sour cream. That helped. They were good. I've come here a few times now. The first time and even the second time nailed it. Last time I really felt I saw a downward turn to the effort/quality of the food. Today I got food to go for the kids and myself and was beyond unsatisfied. When you eat there the restaurant is cute. Tables are a bit small and due to the amount of plates they bring meals out on it can get crowded. Definitely recommend asking for a larger table than you might think you need. Now today we got fajitas sized for two. I was sad that they gave A TON of good onions and basically no peppers at all. Otherwise it was still tasty. One of my sons got the grilled cheese kids sandwich. It came with a fruit cup but no French fries. Really? So for some white bread, cheese and a $.50 fruit cup we paid $6.99? We have been here a few times and every time we come we have a great experience. Clean, good service and food. We always share the large beef fajita nachos ($14) and get their roasted jalapeño margarita (which is hand made & consistently great). There is a large open bar seating as well as restaurant seating. Bar seating does offer some booths for those needing that type of seating. Music has never been overly loud. They do have a happy hour (check their site) but the margarita we have is $2 off (80s ladies--the days of ladies night is GONE ). I love Mexican food & the last time I ate here about 3yrs ago it was excellent...totally different this time. This was worst Mexican food I may have ever had. I had lunch which was also more expensive than other places like Mi Pueblo. The taco shell was so hard I almost chipped a tooth; waiter took it back for another taco & the new one was just meat & no lettuce or tomato & shell still extremely hard. The beans were a semi- dry ball w/no flavor. When the waiter brought me my bill he just held the device in front of my face and waited for me to select one of 3 different gratuity amounts which is very irritating...much prefer they either leave device or give me written bill. Presumably because of the lack of Tex-Mex restaurants in the area, this restaurant is usually very busy on weekends. Service is just okay, and so is the food. Started with chips and a variety of salsas- all of which were good. We had 2 spinach enchiladas (**** $15.00) with a very small amount of sour cream and cheese. These were served with tasty, refried beans and rice. We also tried the Tacos De Veggies (**** $16.75) - corn tortillas filled with veggies and cilantro sauce. Served with rice, beans, chipotle sauce, fresh avocado slices and Pico. Iced tea was above average. The service, from being seated, to the wait staff was excellent. I like the atmosphere as well- with it's section for sports and another slightly separate area for dining. This is our favorite go-to Mexican restaurant. Highly recommend as you cannot go wrong with any choice on the menu. Recently we took a friend out for his birthday and the food was fabulous. I ordered the Pollo Parilla and the chicken was so tender and enjoyed this dish so much. My husband ordered Pancho's Shrimp, wrapped with bacon and grilled. He orders this quite often. Our friend ordered Flautas Loredo and he raved about them. I didn't get a photo of the pecan pie, but it was enormous and if you love pecan pie, this version is one of the best I've eaten. This was my second time dining at Maria Cuca's and 4 stars is about right for this casual dining spot. Several good points to highlight: in and outdoor seating, complimentary chips +3 kinds of salsa are served right away (chips are light and crunchy and salsas vary in heat), servers can show you pictures of each plate before you order on the iPad- that's as really impressive and super easy to ensure you're receiving what you think the menu is saying. We started with some margaritas, of which the Peachmoy really stood out, both sweet, citrusy and a little spicy. I had the Burrito Deluxe with both chili con carne and queso sauces. It was a massive, meaty, cheesy, tex-mex mixture of flavorful, hot goodness. She went for the Sour Cream Chicken Enchilada and Chicken with Chipotle Sauce. Both were deeLISH. Atmosphere is generic, but the booth was comfortable. We came about an hour before close and stayed a bit after but never felt rushed. Recommended to scratch that Tex-Mex itch! read more

Recently went with a party of 8 people and I was extremely disappointed. One of the main issues we had was the wait time when we all sat down they took our drink order and gave us ample time to order. After we ordered they took 1 hour to check in again with us about our food just to make us wait another 30-40 min for our food take in mind that one of the persons in our party ordered A SINGLE TACO they never even apologized for the wait time and I could clearly see it was busy but waiting almost 2 hour for our food and having all the surrounding tables waited on was very upsetting. We were looking for a good Mexican place in Keller that wasn't a large chain, or too much of a "bar". The first two picks were busts, so we decided to give this place a shot since we've driven past in a few times. We are so glad we stopped in!! It was our monthly "date night" so margaritas were a must. We were very happy with the quality tequila options that they had. I ordered the roasted jalapeño margarita, my boyfriend ordered the basic margarita. They were ok. Mine wasn't spicy at all and neither was very strong. I'm a chips and salsa snob and I was very happy with these. The chips were light, crispy and salty. The salsas were great! The spicy salsa is divine! For our entrees, my boyfriend had the Tacos de Mexico and he really enjoyed them. I had the Carnitas and they were really good! The service was fast and great! The restaurant was clean and tidy. I looked around nope not my peeps, then there is a second dining area that looks like the end... nope not my peeps, but if you go through back by the bathrooms there is an opening and another dining area... this is where I found my people. Don't know how this longstanding restaurant has never registered on my radar screen. The ambiance is warm and welcoming with both tables and very comfortable booths. There are also patio tables out front and bar seating. The customary chips are light, crisp and accompanied by a quite enjoyable roja salsa, a very spicy salsa verde, and another salsa verde of a different composition with a slight sweetness. All excellent and fresh. I greatly enjoyed all three. The top shelf Marg here is the Cuca's Premium Margarita made with lime juice, Grand Marnier, and one's choice of several tequilas. I opted for Patron Silver, $13. And check that lime garnish out in my pic! Wow. How they do that?! I ordered the cheese chili rellenos al la carte. This thing was huge. Practically filled the entire plate and it proved to be one of the best I've ever had, and believe me, I've had a few! I could finish only half of this monster. The Ranchero sauce here is also one of the most flavorful and balanced I've ever enjoyed. I'm often not fond of Ranchero sauce, but this is a truly praise worthy offering. I got the deluxe burrito with chili con carne. Silly me I thought it was red salsa with meat so I laughed when I realized my brain fart. Turns out it was super good! But really big. Service - they do have a young staff but they are really good at being fast and friendly. Ambiance- so inside is kinda dark which is normal for a restaurant. Here I am over 9 years later and this place got even better, serious! I sat in the bar area. Margaritas are still top notch and omg the service is so good. My waiters names were Ibarra and Erasmo. They were really nice and attentive. This time I had a grilled chile poblano with steak. I absolutely love the flavor of the real charred pepper on the outside and tender meat on the inside. I asked for a side of spicy sauce with it and they gave me a red chile sauce that was fire. It was great to be back. I will try to come back again sooner than before. read more
