Wasn't the biggest fan the first time I came here, but the but second time was much better. Toasted bagel with scallion cream cheese is delicious and costs less than $5. i really really wanted to like this place but was thoroughly disappointed with the $12 lox bagel that i left with. two stars for ingredients that tasted like they were of a decent quality. but there's not much else going for it imo. for $12 i was not expecting such a small bagel and for them to skimp on the lox to such an extent. on the other hand, there was, however, a comical abundance of cream cheese, constituting perhaps 80% of the bagel sandwich's interior. and the sandwich as a whole was ridiculously salty, probably from the capers and the everything bagel itself. disappointing taste, even more disappointing once price and quantity were factored in :( read more

I was all prepared to LOVE Eltana, because of the extreme dearth of decent bagel places in the Seattle area. Alas, after two visits to the Stone Way location, I am underwhelmed. The first time I went, they were almost out of bagels. Seriously. It's a bagel place, and they had like 5 bagels left, and when I seemed surprised, they seemed really blase about it. So I ordered whatever bagel they had left (I don't even remember what kind it was) with cream cheese and tomatoes. Went back to my car. They forgot the tomatoes, which I paid for. Wasn't worth going back in. And the people who work there are like super aloof and never smile, like they are performing some magic important function that only they know about. It's so weird. The second time, they had more bagels. so I bought a baker's half dozen. Man, the bagels are tiny. And the supposed "grill marks" or "char marks: or whatever that they claim are there on their website weren't there. I will say that the salt bagels were DELICIOUS. Eltana won me over as I was skeptical at first since I generally like larger, puffier bagels. All I can say is Za'atar Friday's are the absolute best which are generally when I go! Friday's only they make Za'atar flavored bagels which go fabulously with their Za'atar scallion cream cheese. Add tomatoes and/or cukes and you have yourself a delicious breakfast. If you are really hungry, most average people could probably eat two of their bagels since they aren't super large. Service is always fairly friendly and they carry micro brewed coffee which is a little more unique for bagel shops in Seattle. read more

Perhaps being accustomed to proper New York bagels my expectations are overly high, but this place is a poor example of a bagel shop, and the gentleman (term used loosely) taking my order was rude and condescending when I asked them if they do a bacon, egg, and cheese on a toasted bagel. He went on this long condescending tirade of how 1) they do not have a person in the back that would cook eggs, and 2) they would NEVER have bacon on their menu. So I am a HUGE Eltana fan and am so glad they opened another location in Wallingford/Fremont neighborhood. Here's what I can say about this new location...It's in a great location in a mixed use space on Stone Way. It's got a little bit of retail parking in an adjacent parking garage, which the Cap Hill location lacks. The space inside is not huge, but perfect for a neighborhood spot. I had a lot of fun with the crossword puzzle, even without the wall sized crossword display. Can't wait for the warm weather to return because this space has a perfect patio space! Rather than reinvent the wheel, I'm going included my review from the cap hill location cause it's still holds up: I adore these bagels! I definitely would say I'm a bagel eater, but this place makes me a bagel makes me a bagel fanatic. I love the salt bagel with plain cream cheese. You would think this is a really boring choice, but believe me, you will not be lacking in flavor. If you want more punch or something unique, Eltana has what you need. I admit, at first it seemed a bit excessive ot pay so much for a bagel and cream cheese, but I really think their hand-rolling and wood-fired process is worth it! There is something amazing that happens when you wood-fire a bagel. It has depth of flavor and smokey flavor that will blow your mind. read more

And since they aren't better for having been fired via burning wood, then why do it at all? I had an Everything Bagel with Lox Spread. It was small but well dressed, barely managing to be acceptable at $7 even in present day Seattle prices. They also toasted my bagel without asking. A big no, no. Fresh bagels should be eaten just as they are and not require any toasting. Eltana I respect the urge to innovate, but when a process raises costs and adds little value then there is probably a better way. read more

It was toasted and it was good, but the price and size of the bagel was disproportionate. The bagel is small - think kid's size - and the price is too high. Perhaps if it was a normal sized bagel at that price it'd be justified (i assume they use premium ingredients and all). But it's expensive AND small. Today marks the first day of the rest of my life. I had Eltana for brunch. My girlfriend and I came here for a couple bagels and some coffee. It nailed the spot. The bagels are kind of an awkward size so we were torn between having one or two bagels each. But they offer half bagels for another dollar, so you don't have to decide between 1 or 2 bagels. Even though these are Montreal style bagels they are the closest in taste and texture to the original old time bagels you would find in ethnic neighborhoods in NYC and Brooklyn a long time ago. Eltana has become one of my favorite places to catch up on some reading or visit with friends. This location offers parking in a garage, and there is usually street parking to be found across Stone Way (as well as a bus stop nearby). I have tried this place 3 times and each time is pretty much the same. The food is tasting alright but a little high priced for what you're getting. There are many options for flavored spreads to choose from. This establishment provides free WiFi service to help will all of that. In my three visits once have I encountered an employee that seemed genuine and actually happy to be there. This is probably the area that needs to most work to be able to score 5 star in my book. Parking is a little hard to find but once you find it, it's nice that it's provided. So many places have good food but you can't find a parking spot to save your soul. I get about a dozen bagels and a cream cheese about every other week and I never cease to be amazed how many things can go wrong! A dozen is supposed to be 14 there but in actuality it is 11-14 depending on the day. Cream cheese tubs are sometimes full, sometimes half full, sometimes last a week, sometimes spoil in 2 days. We aren't all obese American stereotypes that require 1900 calories per meal, so I find the portions adequate and am more than happy to pay for quality. They make their own lox which last time I asked was sockeye salmon. Their spicy cream cheese might be one of the best things that ever happened to a bagel! I often order my bagels without anything on them, because they are just that God, I mean Good. If you want cheap I think the Franz bakery outlet sells 8 for $2, but if you want a good bagel, then pay for it and go to Eltana. I come here a lot, but just had a disturbing experience seconds ago that will not have me coming back soon. A worker coughed in her hands and then went straight to make my bagel. I asked the cashier if she was going to wash her hands and he said no "that's why we why gloves and she's not sick it's from the pepper smell." She had one glove on, not 2 and i saw her touch my food with her ungloved hand. This is unacceptable that instead of washing her hands at a food place which takes 30 seconds I was left with excuses and made to feel really uncomfortable by the cashier that this was some how acceptable to cough in your hands and then serve me my $5 bagel. read more

Heard from a friend that Kabab serves Lamb meat, so I went here to try their Lamb Kabab plate. 1. I first noticed that there are dirty tables and unarrange chairs. Okay, its clearly because of the bad service, untrained staff, and other bad things that the staff has been doing . Okay. 2 star for the service. 2. The order came late, they gave the serving time but the orders where delayed. They didn't even offer something for the compensation which is really not good. 3. The staff don't have the proper manner to talk to the customers, clearly untrained. Not a good thing. This review is clearly for their service. I hope they can improve it. read more

Eltana bagel's are my favorite. They are perfect in size for someone who tries to not have too much carb. They are very generous with spread, so i love to indulge my toasted sesame bagel with hummus. They are crunch on the edges, and chewy inside. My fiance descirbed these bagels as having similar textures to rice cakes. ( not tender mochi, but chewy rice cakes! ). A slice of orange is only served when you eat in the store, and not included when you take the bagles as togo orders. They also have spread in a large container to purchase, if you end up falling in love with them. The only downside is how busy it gets on weekend mornings. There is a patio area but not that useful in cold rainy winter times, and the store gets pretty hectic. It may take some time to get your order out and some more time to find a seat when the customers are not only enjoying their bagels but also the free word puzzle that eltana gives out. read more

A solid four stars. 4 stars for the bagel selection, 3.5 stars for the quantity (a little smaller than "standard" bagels, but priced the same as them), 4 stars for service. I got the everything bagel with salmon lox. I expected it to be cream cheese with salmon lox on top, but it was actually more like salmon spread. Tasty though. I was satisfied. Staff was friendly (and all said bye to me when I left), ambiance was cool -- high ceilings, dark wood tables (if I remember correctly) and a cool modern painting of Einstein. Came around 10am on a weekday and it was dead in there. But also probably a nice place to get some work done -- no coffee machines constantly going off or loud groups of people clinking plates/silverware. I will probably be back next time I'm in the area cuz I like bagels and this place satisfied my craving.
