My ski gang and I have just had a superb ski holiday in Vail. We flew in via Denver and found that we had arrived on the weekend of Superbowl, where the Denver Broncos were taking on the Seattle Seahawks We shall draw a discreet veil over the result of the game but on returning to the airport to catch our flight home, I sought out the famous statue of legendary Broncos quarterback John Elway at his eponymous restaurant. There's a gold cast of his golden arm just at the entrance to the restaurant We had lunch here. Our attention was drawn to the giant plates being delivered to other tables as we were perusing the menus. Our waiter was so funny - when we asked what a dish on another table was, he did a discreet walkby to have a closer look and came back and told us! My sister and I had the blackened fish sandwich and shrimp salad. Definite American portion sizes and we had to leave some of the shrimp salad but both were tasty. It took me a while to cross the threshold of a restaurant owned by Mr. Ed. I spent my formative years watching him trounce my favorite sports team... Decided to check it out and it was awesome.. got the lamb fondue and spicy chili. The lamb fondue comes with a bowl of melted cheese. Although the chili with really tasty, dumping the remainder of the melted cheese on it made it like stoner cooking magic. Great lunch or dinner place. I think the two sides and a drink were less than 40 bucks. oh they gave me a nice 'to go' diet coke for the plane too, which was a nice touch. read more

The staff can be quite snobby, but it's the best creme brulee that DIA has to offer. I am constantly stuck working, so I have to order takeout for my delicious dessert. The downside is, it is a Russian roulette of how the chef decides they're going to package it for me. I've ordered the creme brulee four times, two times they have let me borrow the ramekin, and the other two times it came in a soup cup and just all in a clear pastry box. If done right, there is an equal amount of carmelization that is blended well with the custard bottom. Sometimes, I'll receive fruit that is accompanied with it, and sometimes, I won't have any. Just a heads up it's about $10 plus tip. I think I better head to Root Down for lunch instead... read more

I thought the place was fabulous. Inside t's very organized and neat; there are cubbies under the booths for your carry-ons. The atmosphere was great and so is the menu. They have a good selection of food, however, the prices are pretty high. It's completely worth it ! The good is fresh and of high quality. Every bite is a memorable one. Get off at B and have a great meal at Elway's. I had the lamb chop fondue. It was an appetizer, but was three perfectly grilled and seasoned lamb chops, roasted sweet potatoes and tortilla strips with a green chile fondue. It was, amazing. The lamb, unadorned, was great. Almost $75 for a burger with a side of cauliflower, a cobb salad, and a cup of coffee. Maybe it's a sign of the times and economy, but there are plenty of other choices in DIA to get something to eat that won't break the bank. The Wagyu burger was delicious but it is small and doesn't come with anything so I ordered a side of grilled cauliflower. The portion was decent but the truffle butter was off - it smelled of onion and was just not good. The Cobb salad was good but it came out wrong and had to be sent back (no chicken). The service was good but the place wasn't busy so I would hope so. I was wholly unimpressed by the menu (eight different burgers, a few fifty dollar steaks, and some random sides in the ten dollar range). Oddly, for a place with outrageous prices for just ok food, the wine list was impressive and very reasonable ($12/glass for many fine offerings) I am not a frequent flier but I can safely say I won't be back. read more

This time I could count the pepper bits on one hand. And again the tomatoes had no flavor. The twice baked potato was maybe one and a half at most. And, how about a sea salt rub? For $9.50 I think some salt could be included. Dropping my rating down from five to three stars. Some more quality is in order for the prices charged. read more

I've had the Ahi salad, which is a SMALL pile of lettuce, with 5-6 thin and small slices of ahi on the plate (someone else posted a picture). For whatever the price was (a lot), I expect more food! For my 2nd attempt I went with the blackened fish sandwich. Puny! about a 3"x3" piece of fish about 1/2" thick on a bun! For $16, give me some FOOD! Oddly enough, the side of fruit that I got it with was a reasonably generous portion. My colleague got the corn chowder with chicken in it-- at $9, it looked like a lot more filling meal than what I got! This restaurant is for the "smart traveler". If you want a good meal instead of fast food during your travel time... this is the place for you. My favorite menu item is the lamb chops. They've changed it up a bit as an appetizer with fondue and sweet potato chips. I tried it this way, but next time I'll ask for a side salad. The chops sat on top of the chips which made them a little soggy. And in my humble opinion, a good lamb chop shouldn't be dipped in hot cheese sauce. That said... it was a little interesting. It's pretty pricy but I think dinner here is the best meal I've had in an airport. Given the quality of the meal, it's not *that* much more expensive than comparable food would cost outside and airport. I had the steak tacos, my gf had the filet. Both were great. Despite being a starter, the steak tacos were a good size for a small meal. The pineapple salsa was a really great touch that made it more unique. It had an interesting mix of sweet and spicy flavors. The filet was excellent as well. Service was mostly good (other than forgetting that they were out of a side until we were served). It's not fast food by any means but we weren't sitting there waiting to get their attention or for the bill. I'd come back, and I would be very satisfied with the food even outside an airport. They're also open a bit later than most other sit down restaurants seemed to be. read more

Good food at an airport? never you say? Well, step into Elways on concourse B. It'll cost ya, but if you have the time and the means, you won't be disappointed. I have been here on 3 occasions and each time have been happy with the results. I have had 2 burgers and a breakfast and all have been excellent, with excellent service as well. Why minus 1 star? The seating/hostessing part of the deal seems like a cluster. Not sure why, but hostesses always seem to be shocked that there are people waiting to get a table and that it is an effort to find them one. Not sure why this is disorganized. Wonderful service from Shawn and Cricket! I visited after arriving from CA on August 8th. It was early for lunch but I enjoyed a small filet either bleu cheese butter and fantastic creamed corn. I also wanted salad but didn't want too much. Shawn said I could also get a 1/2 salad which was perfect! Shawn made sure my iced tea was always full, and before I even had to ask, added more ice with the tea. (I have a huge pet peeve about more tea without ice...always having to ask for more ice!). Cricket managed to sneak in a few refills too. She was hopping all over the place. I noticed all of the staff asking first if customers had any time issues which was helpful. So cool to be able to get a first class dining experience at the airport! Excellent customer service. We went back when flying out a few days later too! read more

The service was excellent. The food was adequate. Attached...photo of the "14 oz" ribeye. 1/2" thick? I've had better at IHOP, or pretty much every strip-center texmex place I've been to. Honestly, I get it. Cooking at an airport has to be tough. The steaks need to be thin so they'll cook fast, to feed rushed travelers....but they could have done much better. I guess the $25 hamburger would have been a better call. Elway, your name took a beating. Wedge salad = decent....ask for Green Goddess on the side. Dingdong (chocolate cake) with vanilla ice cream = ok. Seriously the worst $118 meal ($150 with tip) I've ever had. read more

Definitely fantastic for airport food, although it does come with a much higher price tag than most other available restaurants. My favorite items I've tried are the steak salad and the artichoke appetizer. The steak salad is really interesting - the steak is served separately, and there are tons of different flavors in the salad that my mind couldn't figure out what I was tasting (sundries tomatoes, onions, candied pecans, bacon...oh my!). The only qualms I had were with the salad dressing (it was too liberal, even for me, and I love dressing) and the butter knife (I totally forgot that they can't serve steak knives in airports, which makes steak an interesting airport meal). The service was a little slow, and we usually have to wait for a table, but it's been worth it every time. read more

Solid option for a good bite on a layover. One of the only options for a late-night dinner, Elway's is open until 11:00 PM. We both enjoyed salads. Each had generous portions that were more than enough for dinner. I had the Mediterranean salad. It had a piece of grilled chicken, and a fresh pita. The salad itself was the highlight - nice flavor, not too much dressing, olives, artichokes, feta, sun-dried tomatoes. I would order this again. My wife had the cherry creek salad. It was a sweet salad, and was a bit too bland for her by the end. She said it could use a bit more tang in the dressing for it to be just right. She'd pick a different option next time. Overall, not the cheapest airport dinner option ($50+ for two dinner salads with tax and tip, with no apps or sides and drinking water). But a nice ambiance, friendly service, tasty food, and most importantly late hours made for a good meal. read more

I haven't reviewed this place already?!?I practically live here as I fly a ton. And it's my saving grace of air travel. I'll come to the airport early to eat here. For an airport, the food is amazing. And even if you took away the airport label, it's still amazing. The steaks are prime, cooked perfectly, and have this amazing crusty rub (that you can buy too). It's an airport steakhouse, so it's not cheap. But everything from the burgers to the bone in ribeye are on point. And sometimes I go for the home run and get the key lime pie (their best dessert by far). The folks at the bar are all super cool, gotten to know them over my 3 years visiting here. OKAY; Service - was decent there was an issue with our meal so the server never came to tell us, she avoided us. BAD: Food Prep Time: we sat at the table for over an hour before the manager came and told us that they didn't have the "Oscars" topping for the steaks. He mentioned that he had checked for a while down stairs before coming to tell us - which means that our steaks sat around until he came to tell us and for us to decide if we wanted something else. Which you guessed it - the steak was rubbery and cold since it sat under the lamps. Honestly the steak price is too much for the poor quality you get. Not returning. read more

First off I had an amazing waitress named Selena. I also ordered an Apple-tini they have amazing ones at the regular restaurants and I have had one here before and it was great. But today they had no apple liquor, so bar tenders recommended their blackberry tini. Yuck it was bitter, and had no fruit flavor at all, so ok tri number 3 a moscato no one can mess that up! Oh but they don't have any! Nothing sweet! Bummer stuck with water and no ice??? I had the mushroom Swiss burger and it did not disappoint! The Brioche bun was toasted, and not super big! They burger has grilled onions and mushrooms under the Swiss. The patty was think and cooked to perfection but it had the crispy edges like a small flat burger. I could not even finish it it was so big! But there was not much left and now I get to run off all the yummy parts to catch my plane! Get the Bar together and you would have had 5 starts! read more

Who says airport food has to taste bad? Elway's creates as stark contrast to the world of usual airport fare by delivering top quality fare in a warm, upscale environment (not withstanding the ubiquitous TV placement, with a nod to the owner's sporting background). While salmon was available, it is not native to the Rockies, so I clung to my adage of "eat what you're near" and went with the trout. Coupled with a Manhattan and asparagus (consumed quite separately, I assure you), I was more than impressed and resistant to the final sip of water that would surely cleanse my pallet. You will pay to taste such quality, but life is too short to settle for poor food...even in an airport. Bon appétit! Tip: Walk strait to the bar seating and bypass the hostess (if seating allows). However, the limited menu was EXTREMELY LIMITED! I was so disappointed that a full menu wasn't available at least until 10:00pm. C'mon- this is John Elway's place - his name is on it!!! Be better. Elway's has a very comfortable environment to sit and enjoy a meal before your flight. They offer breakfast as well but I was there for dinner. Paul was my waiter and he was on top of everything. I ordered the #7 Steak Salad which is a bunch of arugula and other small toppings on one plate and then a side plate with a small strip of steak. Roughly about 4 strips. The seasoning on the steak was good and it was cooked perfectly to my request. It's just not overall exciting. Even though I wasn't drinking they do offer a nice wine selection.
