Emagen Dental is a beautiful clinic with great doctors and hygienists. I've been coming here for years now, and Dr Kim has always been so sweet. I feel like she goes out of her way to make sure that I have everything that I need. I like her a lot and she is so pleasant to chat with. I recently got my teeth cleaned and the hygienist. I chose Emagen based on a deep dive into all of the top rated dentists in the city. Emagen, and Dr Urtula in particular, received such rave reviews that I had to pick them, even though they are out of network for my insurance (they only take Delta Dental PPO and Premier Plans). and even though there was a several months wait to get in for my first appointment. The first time I walked in, I knew that I had made the right choice. The vibes were on point with my own personal aesthetic: clean, modern, minimalist and decorated with calming neutral colors, they even use the same products as I do ("Public Goods") with glass "Polished Jar" containers to hold products. The first appointment takes a couple of hours as they are very thorough, and Dr Urtula himself always gives you a lot of personal time. He takes the time to get to know his patients and really wants the best for them and their teeth. When I had a crown break a few days before I had to go to Europe for work, they got me in for an emergency appointment same day and even rushed the permanent crown so that I didn't have to travel with a temporary. Being out of network it is on the pricier side for me to go to Emagen, but it is well worth it. We only have one set of teeth! read more

This is a long overdue review. I saw Dr. Ro and her team for about 3 years while I was living in NY. It's been several years now but I'm still struggling to find a dental practice as good as Emagen. The things I loved most about Emagen: 1. the hygienists always did an excellent job cleaning and educating on dental hygeine and 2. Dr. Ro never pushed any unnecessary treatments or even annual x-rays where unnecessary. 3. I've been going to Emagen Dental for over a decade, but that stops today. After ALL the years of going to them and never missing an appointment, I called to say that I tested positive for Covid and couldn't make my appointment. Because of this, I was charged a $100 cancellation fee. They would rather I lied by omission and exposed the staff and patients to Covid then miss the appointment. May sure you're up on the latest Covid vax when you go to Emagen, especially if you're immunocompromised! read more

I am not proud to admit I had a lot of anxiety about going to the dentist, but Dr. Chau changed all of that. I was in need of tooth extractions and had visited a couple of places for consultations but left the appointments feeling a little uneasy. But then I had my experience with Dr. Chau, and it was amazing. The team at Emagen Dental are so friendly and thorough and work with you to have the best experience. Dr. Chau walks you through everything and regularly checks in with you throughout the procedure. When I first moved to NYC a few years ago, I'm sure many can relate, I struggled to find a dentist. I found this place on Yelp as it was near my office at the time. I later found out that many recommend this place. I've seen almost every dentist and don't have a preference -- they are all that great! They call you, text you, email you to remind you so even if it's 6 months away you won't forget. In addition, my favorite part, at the office you are treated like royalty. While getting your cleaning/checkup/filling you are able to watch Netflix and they apply Vaseline onto your lips. It's the little things like this that make them above the rest in my book. When I left New York for London I had to say goodbye to a lot - anything/everything delivered to my doorstep day or night; widely available excellent pizza; affordable taxis that take credit cards without a surcharge; toasted sesame bagels with scallion cream cheese; cheap and well-executed eyebrow threading; pleasantly priced blowouts; Billy's Bakery. But despite so many goodbyes I never considered giving up my New York-based dentist. Over the summer, I got lucky: work brought me back to Manhattan and the ever helpful Jeff nabbed me an early morning apppointment. Then it came time for another cleaning this winter and I began to panic slightly. New York was not in my travel plans, work or otherwise. Soon, though, I'd made up my mind to make a special trip to the city to visit Dr. Urtula at Emagen. And for the past couple of months, I have looked forward to my visit. Who looks forward to going to the dentist? Crazy but true, I admit, I do! Whilst on holiday in Mexico I explained to some new friends that Dr. Urtula had changed my relationship with my teeth. The response, accompanied by raucous laughter was "I didn't know I had a relationship with my teeth!" Well neither did I before I came to Emagen! Since coming to this one of a kind dental practice my teeth have been so much happier. I've become a better brusher and flosser and I've begun using a mouth guard to battle my bruxism. Unlike every dentist I visited before him, Dr. Urtula speaks to me conversationally and dispenses advice with a knowledgeable air that's also very accessible and actually makes me want to take action. There's none of that dental fear mongering or cosmetic upselling at Emagen. This place is special, in a way that anyone who's been a patient here can attest, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. I hate going to the dentist. I have no issues with the most of the process - but I do have a very sensitive mouth (or maybe something in my head is making it more sensitive at that moment..like anxiety or something). Whenever I get a local anesthetic shot, once it kicks in, it's happy sailing. I am super curious about what everything is, and would love a better view into my mouth during the procedure. but the shot. ugh. the. absolute. worst. for me similar with dental cleanings Today I visited Emagen, specifically Doctor Kim. I told her about my experiences and sensitivity, and she was super understanding. She applied very strong topical anesthetic along my gum line. I waited 8-10 minutes, and then she proceeded with the cleaning. This was the most painless cleaning I have ever had. I have more work that needs to done in the future, and I'm looking very much forward to getting it completed here - along with changing my 'come to the dentist when something is very bad' to 'visit the dentist 1-2 times a year' Now the only question I have is what I should get them for holiday gifts :D PS. I didn't appreciate the idea of "bedside manner" until I started seeing Dr. Chau, who exemplifies everything I would look for in a dentist. He is so patient and knowledgeable and he explains everything comprehensively. In the past he even followed up same-day with a phone call after I sent the front desk an email about a concern I was having. He always remembers concerns from past visits and follows up on them. I've been a patient here for about a year, I've gone twice since COVID shutdowns began and both times I felt very safe with the precautions they were taking. I've only gone for routine cleanings so far but they always do a great job! read more

Who the hell likes going to the dentist? Literally no one, and if you do, you have issues. Enter: Emagen Dental & Dr Urtula, and all of a sudden going to the dentist isn't so bad! The staff is easy to work with (just made my last appt over text!) and everyone is so kind. Dr Urtula is a gem, always makes me feel comfortable and is willing to spend extra time or go the extra mile when needed. He also either has a great memory or takes amazing notes because he always remembers personal details. Love that. I usually go for just regular cleanings, but before my wedding had one tooth bonded as a color correction and I couldn't be happier with the results. The Netflix set up is a mega perk. I recently lost a filling and have a gaping hole in that tooth. There's a dull ache and the tooth feels fragile so I've been eating only soft foods until I can get it taken care of. I'm also overdue for a checkup (I'm one of those dental scaredy cats, to my own detriment), so I will likely have to have other work done too. I was impressed by Emagen's reviews and thought they might be a good match for me going forward, so that I could not only get this tooth fixed but perhaps establish a relationship with a quality practice and follow a better dental regimen with regular checkups. I was actually feeling hopeful about making a positive change in my life, silly as that may sound. I contacted the office at 3:30pm on a Wednesday--left a voicemail and also sent a text, as they requested--and heard back from them at 2:15pm on Thursday. Not as prompt a response as one might hope but whatever. I told them that I have an at-risk tooth that recently lost a filling, they informed me that I'd get no treatment on my first visit--just a cleaning. They told me that my first visit would be a week away and that my second visit--the first chance to get my problem addressed--would be two weeks after that. So I would be waiting three weeks to get treatment on an at-risk tooth. Do dental emergencies not exist in your practice, I asked? These are our policies, I was told. I was seriously trying to find a way to work with this practice, but the woman I spoke with could/would not make any accommodations, despite my situation. If I'd reached out to Emagen when I had no problems with my teeth and just needed a checkup and a cleaning, I'm sure I'd feel differently, but the notion that an-risk tooth made no difference in their policies or their approach to dental care--well, it was a new one on me and something I couldn't get past. It's too bad. I let myself believe that maybe the lost filling was a good thing if it led me to a quality dental practice and a change in my fearful thinking about dentists, but the woman I spoke with came off as cold and unyielding--no concern expressed whatsoever about my predicament. I'm not one to run to Yelp to post negative reviews--I'm not sure I've ever done it before. But this time, I have no hesitation. read more

One of my least favorite things is showing up for an appointment, after I've called several times to confirm my appointment and update my insurance, and being told that I have a $75 balance from an appointment that was over 6 months ago. I never received a bill. I was never called about it. Aside from that...The staff here is nice. As are the dentists. If you have anxiety when it comes to dentists work, come here. The office is also really nice. But prepared for surprised bills. Apparently that's a thing now -_-. And if going to the dentist makes you anxious (like me), the last thing you want is to show up and be annoyed by billing just before your appointment. read more

Yesterday morning, I watched the movie "Hitch." I'm telling you this, not because you should know I'm a sucker for the awkward camaraderie between Will Smith and Kevin James, but because that's what I remember most about my dentist appointment. NOT the hour I spent in the chair, getting poked and prodded and scraped and scrubbed. Because it was remarkably pleasant (for a dental cleaning). There was no pain or discomfort. There isn't even the threat of it, because Dr. Urtula is calm, friendly, and genuinely concerned about making you feel comfortable. He thoroughly explains all procedures, and not only tells you what you might want to consider improving about your toothcare, but he also he tells you WHY. I love knowing the why, as it's a better motivator. And if you ask questions, it's basically like a crash course in dentistry. Overall, this is easily the best dentist's office I've ever been to. They are up to date on all the latest dental technology,* Dr. Urtula answers all my dumb questions, there was minimal scolding for not flossing as much as I should and waiting so long between visits, and I can watch movies during my cleanings, for Pete's sake. Plus, they give you an awesome little goodie bag when you walk out. There is one caveat: Emagen Dental does seem to take a bit longer than the dentists of my youth. Your first appointment, in particular, will run a couple hours, as they take X-rays, and photos of each of your teeth. But it's worth it, because (1) you can watch crappy romantic comedies** during the cleaning, and (2) your teeth are important. Wouldn't you rather visit someone who took the time to do a thorough, excellent job?*** _________ *Like I know what I'm talking about. **There is a whole host of movies you can watch. Last time, I watched Blazing Saddles. I really don't want to miss the end of a movie I like though. I'm intimately familiar with the experience of being worked over (typically painfully) by hygienists for 30-45 minutes before seeing an actual dentist for about 30-45 -seconds- before being ushered out. At Emagen Dental, it's like that entire experience went topsy-turvy in the most wonderful of ways. It's absurdly easy to arrange appointments via phone or e-mail. The front office staff is legitimately friendly (Hi, Jeff!). Dr. Urtula himself is endlessly patient, so careful, and absurdly efficient. In addition, he truly makes time for every single person that comes to sit in his dentist's chair. I've never felt more aware, educated, and appreciative of keeping my teeth and gums healthy. And I feel armed with the information and tools necessary to maintain that health. I only have the team at Emagen Dental to thank for that. I have had years of hellish dental experiences that have cost me more in therapy than I spent in the first place. (OK maybe not that bad but close, teeth wrenched out by pliers with the equivalent of Ambisol as the numbing agent?) So far Dr. Ro hasn't attempted this arcane procedure, and I don't expect her to anytime in the near future. As the other reviewer mentioned the use of new technology while cool, has the added benefit of making me feel like I actually am involved in my own teeth care. Anyone else feel like they are just a poor caretaker for those teeth blessed upon you by "Master Dentist" the other 364 days of the year? Being able to see the X-rays as they are taken and reviewed with the Dentist is great. Seeing the inside of my mouth on a 17 inch screen has made me realize a magnified mouth is not a sexy place. Reminds me of the Discovery Channel, but it is nice to see what is going on in a way that I sure can't do at home. (I tried with my Casio EX-500... and this led to a trip to the E.R.... which I will review later). The cleanings are fast, efficient and not painful, being able to watch a movie sure passes the time. I 100% brushing twice a day, flossing once, and doing your 6 month or 5,000 mile tune up (whichever comes first) at Emagen Dental. read more

I hate the dentist but I love Emagen dental. I've had way too much dental work for someone my age so by the time I got to Dr. Urtula I was scarred. Dr. Urtula is kind, patient, gentle, and really takes care of his patients. He's never in a rush and does whatever he can to help whether its squeezing me in last minute or giving me a free toothbrush head I feel appreciated. His front desk staff is just the same and is always extremely helpful. This place is heaven. I've been coming here for 4 years coming up on 5. I use to HATE the dentist. Didn't help that my mom had us watch that scary dentist movie as a child lol. Or that one dentist nearly messed up a nerve close to a decade ago. Prior to finding Emagen Dental I would go to the dentist every 3 or more years. Now I go every 6 months, and when additional necessary treatments are required. What I love about them is that they care about you, the person sitting in the seat. They are looking out for your overall oral health. They will not do or recommend procedures if it is not needed. On top of that the hygienist I have is very gentle, legit zero pain (will not disclose name as I don't want their schedule to be too booked lol - selfish a bit). Overall, if I could give them 100 five star reviews I would. Thank you staff and I'm looking forward to my custom sport mouth guard and next cleaning visit. read more

I love Emagen Dental!! I, like many people, used to not look forward to going to the dentist, but ever since coming to Dr. Chau, I love my routine cleanings. He is so friendly, caring, and makes you feel comfortable. I have been coming here for 2 years now and am so happy I found the best dentist. I only have positive things to say: easy scheduling appointments, clean & sleek office, friendly staff, and excellent service. I have to say the warm lemon spa towel adds a spa-like touch. Also, love being able to watch Netflix while I get my cleaning, blocks out the dental tool sounds which is cool. Overall, great experience every time. I have been going to Emagen for the past 5 years. I love it. They are the best and I cannot recommend highly. Great staff, technicians and dentists. Super clean. Very good about sending reminders well in advance and as your appointment gets closer. I have my front teeth bonded and they always are really careful with those teeth. One suggestion though, Emagen family!, please find a TMJ specialist to refer your TMJ patients to that takes insurance. Your main TMJ referral guy doesn't take any insurance and his fee to see him is $450. read more

I think at least 100 of my coworkers go to this dentist office, so I made sure to get in with Dr. Urtula as soon as I moved to New York, and I have not regretted my choice once in two years. He has some sort of magic hands that deliver the lightest, gentlest touch on your teeth and gums, and knows how to explain things in a professional yet relatable way. He's just the best. As far as cleanings go, my opinion of them depends on the hygienist, but let's just say I actually use the time to close my eyes and relax, and don't even need to use the fancy TV system they have set up in front of every chair, even when they start using that scary drill-sounding cleaning machine. I recently had an insurance payment misunderstanding, and though the whole issue took a couple of months to clear up completely, I was really impressed with how patient and understanding they were with my complaint and at the end of it they really went the extra mile to make sure I was satisfied with what I was paying. They're as good as it gets when it comes to dentist offices and I can't recommend them enough. Just hope everyone doesn't rush to sign up with Dr. U so that it gets harder to get a good appointment time with him! read more

It's hard for me to rate a dentist since I have a passionate and deliberate fear/hatred of the dental industry. Don't get me wrong - I want my teeth healthy and they usually help alleviate issues and do their job well (aside from those damn Canadian socialized dentists who hacked away at my mouth for four years and gave me Tylenol for the pain). I just try to avoid pain/discomfort (usually a key element of the visit to the dentist) and I don't enjoy having fingers in my mouth (there goes my career, right?). After hearing wonderful things about Emagen, I decided to check it out since they also take Delta dental. Their receptionist is incredible and seriously deserves patient care rewards within an industry filled with cold and curt office staff. She holds my hand when I tense up, makes jokes and generally makes you feel instantly at ease. Dr. Urtula is sweet and gentle, very soft-spoken and concerned with my personal well-being. He probably thinks I despise him though, which I do regret. Unfortunately, I can't help that every muscle in my body tenses up as he approaches or that I turn green when he's setting up his sharp torture devices or that I cry a little as he pokes around during a routine cleaning. I have a problem - I know! Either way, the price is right and somehow my insurance covers a ton of stuff there. The billing is super simple. The people are all wonderful and sweet and put up with my crazy. All in all, glad to have a good dentist in this big 'ol city! read more

Over the summer, one bright and sunny afternoon, I took a nap. This would be a totally ordinary and rather boring story except for one small, teensy detail: I was getting a filling by D. Urtula at Emagen Dental. Actually, make that two fillings. There I was, sitting in the dentist's chair, the recliner of hell to most people, watching The Bird Cage on a TV screen suspended just above my head, while Dr. Urtula and his hygienist Chang worked on my chompers, when suddenly I realized I'd dozed off. This is how things work at Emagen. This is why you should make an appointment no where else, ever again, with any other dentist on the planet. Over the course of my many visits to Emagen, I've interacted with Jeff and Jessica (the lovely and accommodating office managers), Dr. Urtula and Chang (fillings, cleanings and molds for retainers), leaving me with a confident impression that everyone in this office really cares about each and every patient. Jeff has gone above and beyond in so many ways, while Jessica has been super communicative and following up with me regarding appointment times and scheduling. Each visit, I really look forward to chatting with Chang, who seems to remember every detail of our conversations while making each step of the procedure clear and continually checking in on my comfort levels. Dr. Urtula's bedside manner and ability to explain even the most complicated of dental work in way that those of us without medical training can understand, is refreshing and reassuring. There will be no unnecessary procedures, no surprised on bill, no scolding about the current state of your teeth and no pain. The last part is crucial. I felt absolutely nothing during my fillings, so much so that I dozed off in the middle of the drilling. Is it any wonder why I now look forward to going to the dentist? read more

I'm not a fan of Emagen and I can't say I'll ever return, let alone recommend this dental office and here are the reasons why. 1. Be careful what you sign. When I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly staff at the front desk. I was handed some paperwork. As I was reading through the papers, one of the papers indicated that they can and have every right to take pictures of you and your teeth and use it on advertisements. They also have the right to do whatever they want with whatever pictures they decide to take of you. And they want you to sign this waiver. Oh, by the way, you will not be compensated. No thanks. I adamantly said I would not sign and if this means if I have to leave, I will. But they didn't force me to sign it, so hence the 2 stars, as opposed to one. 2. Upsell, Upsell, Upsell. During the entire visit, before and thereafter, they try their best to upsell you on everything. I mean everything. They will continuously "encourage" you to get this and that, but the question is, do you really need it? 3. Annoying Staff, Including the Dentist. They don't give up. Although, this can be a really great trait to have, its not when its unsolicited. Several months after I left the cleaning, they had the nerve to tell my insurance that I had requested a quote on their services. So I received this nice bill of inquiry with a list of services they recommended. I called my insurance and they told me that I had requested this info from the Dentist, when in fact, I didn't. Best experience ever!! As someone who is was normally hesitant about dentists I can not be happier that someone referred me to Emagen dental. The office is super modern and the staff is super nice. I get text reminders in advance of my appointments, which for me is necessary. I always get an appointment after work as they are very accommodating with later hours. The doctors are great and are super cool. We talk sneakers and they once even stopped my procedure every 5 minutes so that I could try to win a few sneaker raffles. Best of all they have tvs in every room and you can watch Netflix during your procedures. Overall the best experience that I ever had at a dentist!!! read more

We all know going to the dentist is a chore and it's never enjoyable. Well that's what I thought until....I found Emagen dental on Yelp. All of the dentists are great and recognize that going to the dentist isn't the most fun activity. They hook you up with Netflix and headphones and don't bug you at all. The office is really savvy. I've been really happy with my experience at Dr. Ro's. I moved back to NYC from the Bay Area last summer, and when I did, I initially saw a different dentist who turned out to be completely incompetent (stephen lim) and unprofessional (he cursed at his staff in front of me and banged things around...going to the dentist is nerve wracking as it is!). Anyway, Dr. Ro has a really nice office and runs the practice on her own (read: if you name your practice after yourself, I want YOU to be working on my teeth). She's very kind, patient, takes the time to answer my millions of questions, and is very thorough (my best friend's husband is an awesome dentist in the bay area, so my expectations are high). The business/office is managed by a woman named Carol who has a lot of personality. In addition to being fun to talk to, she's also very very informative and will break down things like insurance, deductibles, benefits, and payment so you don't leave feeling like you dont' know what you just paid for. I highly recommend this office if you're looking for a new dentist. read more

I've had a hate/hate relationship with dentists and my teeth since I was young, having had braces forever and having enjoyed a number of oral surgeries. When my childhood dentist (who had by default become my young adult and finally mid-adult (?) dentist) fulfilled the American dream and moved from Long Island to Tennessee, or something, I turned to yelp to help me find the next one after a couple years of no professional cleaning (I know, gross, whatever). I read the reviews for Emagen and, while I assumed the reviewers were exaggerating, decided to go with it. They weren't exaggerating. This place is the best. 1. They have TV screens above the chairs so you can watch Netflix while having your teeth cleaned. I recommend watching something somber, like Twin Peaks, so that you won't start laughing and injure yourself on dental tools. 2. They do everything they can to make sure insurance pays as much as possible. Which is awesome because despite Past Nelly's admonition: mo' money = fewer problems. 3. Dr. Urtula is the man. I don't think I've ever talked about music with a healthcare provider before. Usually it's just "wait, you drink that much PER NIGHT?" or "so, this is floss." 4. They give you sweet travel-sized dental goodie bags after each appointment (or maybe only I get them because they think I need all the help I can get?). When the popo searches my bag at the airport, they're like, "what's this?" And I'm like "oh, nothing, just EVERYTHING I NEED TO MAINTAIN APPROPRIATE DENTAL HYGIENE WHILE ON THE ROAD." 5. My buddy David used to regale me with tales of his dental school adventures on our Friday afternoons out. One stood out in particular: if he didn't particularly like a patient, he'd perform not-so-gentle work on their teeth&gums or skimp ever so slightly on the anesthesia. Couple that with my numerous, painful and very traumatic visits to the dentist as a child and what do you have? A fairly rational and not-quite healthy fear of The Chair. Thus, my absence from a dentist's office for about a decade. Enter Dr. Urtula. After I worked up enough courage to make an appointment through Jeff, the wonderful patient coordinator (who took my insurance information and emailed me a breakdown of fees in advance, in addition to working extra hard to accommodate my hectic work schedule), Dr. Urtula greeted me with a friendly smile and a 'Welcome Back'. He is as gentle and caring as everyone claims. He thoroughly explained each procedure and walked me through the process in a very calming, professional and friendly manner. I never thought I would actually enjoy going to the dentist. After four years of putting it off, I finally went to the dentist to see what the damage was. This place rules. One of the coolest parts about this practice is that they use all of the latest technology. X-rays? Sure, but they're not the old type -- they're digital, use about a quarter of the radiation of previous x-rays, and appear immediately on the screen. They take photos of your teeth with this miniature camera, and you can watch as it's happening on the monitor in front of you. That monitor in front of you? It doubles as a video screen for you to watch any one of a selection of about 40 DVDs -- I've watched parts of the Animatrix and Finding Nemo -- with wireless headphones while she's doing the cleaning/other work on the inside of your mouth. Not only is this place bizarrely fun for a dentist's office, they're apparently really up on their medical technology. I got a recommendation from a coworker whose dad is a dentist. This coworker went to Dr. Ro (the dentist at Emagen) and wound up relaying what she did to his dad, who was impressed -- apparently, she does things that are taught in dental school but most practicing dentists don't bother to do. So yeah, completely five stars. I can't speak to the price, but then again, I'm lucky enough to have excellent insurance, so it's not such a huge issue with me. read more

I agree with Nills J, this place rules. Carol, the women at the front desk, was super friendly and did an incredible job walking me through my plan, coverage and how the office bills BEFORE we did anything. I don't think I've ever had any kind of doctor or dentist do this, instead, I get some random bill or deductible payment a month later. The office is conveniently located right outside the C,E subway and is on the second floor of a building with other small businesses. No elevator. It has a clean and modern feel, but not too overdone. They use all the latest and greatest in dental technology including this mini camera to take real digital pics of my teeth so I can actually see close ups of where I need to improve my brushing or any gum line changes - I thought this was a great feature...and it was fun. Dr. Ro and her assistant were very sweet and personable which makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. When they did the actual cleaning they let me chose from a two page list of recent movies to watch and popped on these fancy head phones so I could be entertained while they did their thing. So as I followed Nemo and all his under water friends around, I thought to myself, Dr. Ro, you got yourself a lifer :) read more

This dental office has definitely grown bigger - look at the size of their office, it's double the space now! However, I am not sure if the service has kept up with the business. Instead, it has gone downhill in my opinion. I have been a patient of Dr. Urtula since 2012. I was profoundly impressed by his bedside manner and how much he cares about his patients. My favorite dentist, as I would always call him - he made going to dental office exciting and fun. But I am really disappointed with the recent trips I've made, especially today. I scheduled a deep cleaning today, specifically asking for him (as the receptionist asked if I wanted him or another doctor). After I arrived, his staff cleaned my teeth, did the deep cleaning, then tried to schedule a follow-up appointment. In the whole process I did not see Dr. Urtula. Not even a hi from him, at all. After today I think I am going to find an in-network dentist (they only take Delta Dental) and save on my out-of-pocket. Thanks for the fond memories, Dr. Urtula. read more

If a crazy person on the street held a gun to my head and forced me to give up either Vosges or Dr. Urtula, I would remorselessly bid farewell to Vosges. Here's why: - Everyone is NICE. The two receptionists, the hygienist, the assistant, and of course Dr. Urtula. All of them are friendly, patient, fun, and welcoming. I felt totally at ease and never felt rushed like I usually do at the dentist. - Up-to-date technology (digital x-rays, digital photos of each tooth taken quickly and easily, screen on which to watch said x-rays/pictures or any netflix show) - Efficiently run office. They were 15 minutes late for my appointment, and so I received a $10 Starbucks gift card (along with about 100 apologies from everyone from the front desk staff to the hygienist to the assistant to Dr. Urtula himself) - Clear, non-judgmental dentist! ("You don't floss much? That's okay. Just try doing it once a week during your favorite tv show. Then we can add in more days slowly. In just three years you'll be flossing every day!" How is THAT for patient?!) - Informative! I actually left knowing a lot more about my teeth (how they look, how they work, why I had certain symptoms in my gums and nerves) and about why the dentist/hygienist is doing certain things. - Generous. My insurance only covered 80% of any x-rays, but the office called to say they would absorb the last 20% because they value x-rays and didn't want cost to deter me from getting them done. I've already commenced trying to get all of my friends to switch! read more

Never did I think going to the dentist would actually be an enjoyable experience, but Dr. Urtula and his staff are amazing. 1. It's super high tech. Not just talking digital x-rays and email appointment reminders. Dr. Urtula does a thorough walk-through of your mouth with a little camera, explaining everything along the way, and every room is equipped with Netflix so you can watch whatever you want during a cleaning. You almost forget that they're scaling your teeth! 2. Nonjudgmental. No one at this office will make you feel like a horrible person if you don't floss every day. They are much more realistic in their expectations of patients. "How about trying once a week?" That, I can probably handle... 3. Super-duper service. My appointment was 15 minutes late getting started (pretty standard for a doctor's office, no?), and they gave me a gift certificate for pinkberry. How awesome is that? And did I mention that Dr. Urtula may just be the nicest man on the planet? I've recommended Emagen Dental to all my co-workers, and they've all returned with rave reviews as well. Growing up, I went to the same dentist as my whole family. I remember feeling particularly disgruntled during one appointment when the dental assistant screeched in Chinese, "Hey! Come over here! Look at how big this hole is!" ...and then 4 or 5 people crowded around to stare in horror into my mouth. So, needless to say, I know I don't have high expectations for service when it comes to a dental provider. Thankfully, I've had a few other dentists since then, and Dr. Urtula and his team is by far the nicest practice I have ever come across. I could not be happier with the level of service and treatment I've received from the entire staff. Dr. Urtula truly cares about you as a patient and really takes the time to make your experience as painless as possible. He explains everything as he goes along and always makes sure that I feel completely comfortable before proceeding. He also never fails to follow up to make sure everything is going smoothly during more tricky procedures or when I have questions. I really trust him with my teeth and think that he has his patients' best interest in mind. As an added bonus, you can also watch Netflix during your appointment! read more

What a great place and Dr. Urtula is unique with his hands on approach with his patients. I noticed while I was in the treatment room that he went from room to room (I also saw this is the waiting area) shaking each patients hand and asking how they were. He is a genuine caring Dentist. This you don't see anymore but Dr. Urtula makes all the difference in your visit. Also there is no waiting! Really your appointment time is really when you are seen. I read the other reviews, they're all true. They offered to send our x-rays to our other dentist (why would anyone want to walk around with them in hand anyway, that is why we have technology) no need, any dental work will be done here. In the dental field I have found you get what you pay for, if all you want is cheap dentistry that is what you will get and it won't last. My first experience here was on a Friday, I had a very bad tooth ache while I was in NY. I called his office hoping for a Monday appointment. They told me to come in right away, I was pain free in 1 hour. I was pleasantly surprised that the bill was very affordable. I didn't have insurance.
