The Doc said it was one of the worst tears he had ever seen. The therapists were conscientious of this and approached with extreme care. I initially started out three visits per week. The PT eased me to the pain and not through it as prescribed by the Doc. Over time my motions were normalizing. The PTs kept testing my movement abilities, and again not pushing. I was "handled with care". Eventually I reduced my number of visits to 2 visits a week then every other week. I am back to normal, or at least 99%. I would like to thank Nancy for having such a great group of PTs who assisted me, Petya, Kim, Courtney, Jacob, Allison and Nancy herself. I don't recommend injuries to anyone but if you must be injured and you require rehab, Ascend comes highly recommended.

They are knowledgeable, patient, really take time to listen to how you're doing and adjust exercises accordingly. The atmosphere of the practice is very calm and cooperative. Even when there are multiple folks there at the same time, I feel like I get the attention I need in terms of observations of what I'm doing, adjustments needed, and instruction on what to do next. I've gone to several PT practices over the years for different issues, and they are among the best I've experienced. I've made very rapid progress thanks to the care I've received, and have no doubt I will reach 100% in the near future if I finish my regimen at Ascend. I would recommend them to friends and family without hesitation.

My friend was admitted to Iliff for rehabilitation after developing cellulitus on his foot and…read moreneeding physical therapy to help him walk again. I visited him three to four times a week, and each time, I found him almost unresponsive, I could not wake him up, which was extremely unusual for him. The wound care he received was the exact opposite of what his doctor had instructed, which was alarming. Additionally, despite his inability to walk, the staff's approach was disturbingly passive. When I asked about his physical therapy, a nurse told me, "If he doesn't want to walk, we won't force him." Rehabilitation is about encouragement and support, not neglect. One particularly troubling incident occurred when my friend repeatedly pressed his call button for help, but no one responded. He then called the nursing station, but still, no one answered. In desperation, he called me, and I had to physically go to Iliff to inform the staff that he needed assistance. This level of neglect was unacceptable. Concerned for his well-being, I immediately contacted his family and urged them to get him out of that facility before it was too late. Meaning, I told his family he might die there, in my opinion if they did not get him out. Thankfully, the family listened to me and they moved him out. He is now receiving proper care at home--he is no longer overmedicated (again my opinion), his wound is being treated according to his doctor's orders, and he is making significant progress with physical therapy. If I could give zero stars, I would. Quality care should never be optional, and basic responsiveness, proper medical treatment, and patient support should be the standard--not the exception. This was not a safe environment.

I was seen immediately upon my arrival, I was asked very thorough questions regarding my health history and had my blood drawn in preparation for my surgery. The day of my procedure, it went very smoothly. The nurses that took care of me were very kind and helpful. The anesthesiologist was very helpful and explained everything to me and helped to ease my anxiety about having surgery. Once my procedure was complete, the staff took care of me until I was discharged. I had a great experience and grateful for the wonderful staff here. Billing, well, that's health care in America lol. I'm just glad the procedure went well. I also appreciate that this hospital does not charge for parking, that is a rarity these days!

We arrived by medical transport and, from the moment we entered the Emergency Department, we were greeted with kindness, professionalism, and compassion. The security staff welcomed us warmly, and the receptionist greeted us with a smile that immediately put us at ease during a very stressful time. I would also like to recognize the registration representative who assisted us during our visit. Even while handling the administrative and insurance aspects of our care, she was patient, kind, professional, and reassuring. Families arriving at an emergency department are often worried and overwhelmed, and her willingness to help made us feel supported from the start. To our surprise, there was virtually no wait time. We were brought into a room almost immediately, and the quality of care we received was outstanding. Nurses Jasmine, RN, and Susana, RN, were compassionate, attentive, and professional throughout the visit. They treated my elderly mother with dignity, respect, and patience, ensuring she was comfortable every step of the way. We were especially grateful for Dr. David Kruse. Dr. Kruse was thorough, knowledgeable, kind and genuinely compassionate. He carefully reviewed my mother's extensive medical history, recent surgeries, rehabilitation stay, and prior hospitalizations. He performed a comprehensive examination and ensured every necessary precaution was taken to rule out infection, pneumonia, and other serious concerns. His calm demeanor, attention to detail, and concern for my mother's well-being gave us tremendous peace of mind. At the end he even brought her a syringe and distilled water so she can get hydrated through the feeding tube. In addition, my phone's battery was dead. He personally took my phone to charge it. Not many doctors nowadays do these acts of kindness. I wish doctors are taught more and more compassion, kindness and empathy. Bed side manners are extremely important not only in the hospital setting but also in the emergency room and doctor's offices. I would also like to thank the two radiology professionals who came directly to my mother's room to perform her X-rays. They treated her with kindness and respect throughout the process. My mother has endured months of hospitalizations, surgery, rehabilitation, and numerous medical appointments, and moving an elderly patient can be difficult and uncomfortable. Their gentle, patient approach was another example of the excellent care we experienced during our visit. Before we left, Derrick kindly assisted my mother into a wheelchair with patience, professionalism, and genuine care. His kindness did not go unnoticed and was greatly appreciated. I would also like to mention that this was not our first visit to the Reston Hospital Emergency Department. Over the years, and especially during my mother's recent health challenges, we have experienced emergency room visits involving long waits, extended delays, and admissions where we remained in the Emergency Department for hours awaiting placement or a shift change. We understand that hospitals are busy and that emergency departments face tremendous demands every day. What made this visit different was the remarkable efficiency, teamwork, professionalism, and compassion shown by Dr. Kruse and the entire team caring for my mother. From arrival to discharge, every person we encountered treated us with respect, empathy, and genuine concern. They saw not just a patient, but an elderly mother and a daughter doing everything possible to care for her at home. Over the past several months, my mother has endured multiple emergency room visits, surgery, hospitalization, and rehabilitation. As her daughter and caregiver, there have been many moments of exhaustion, uncertainty, and worry. During this visit, the staff gave us something we desperately needed: reassurance, confidence, and hope. My mother is a retired teacher who has lived in Fairfax County for more than 40 years. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to educating students, volunteering, and serving this community. Seeing her receive such thoughtful care meant more to our family than words can express. Dr. Kruse and his team have earned a loyal supporter in our family. Thank you to Dr. David Kruse, Jasmine, RN, Susana, RN, Derrick, the radiology staff, the registration representative, the receptionist, the security staff, and the entire Reston Hospital Emergency Department team for providing outstanding care during a difficult time. Your professionalism, kindness, and dedication will not be forgotten. With heartfelt gratitude, PK Fairfax County Resident and Daughter of a Grateful Patient

I've been seeing him since the late 1990's ... and I still use his services even though I now live 600 miles from the DC Metro area. He mentored with another chiropractor (Mark Smith ... now in Midlothian, VA I believe, just outside of Richmond, VA) who I had seen since the early 1980's. Gary not only is a good "adjuster" ( that makes him sound like he works for an insurance company!) but he knows all of the touch for health and applied kinesiology approaches. Also, he offers a computerized traction service (the Accuspina) that is just fantastic for those with chronic lower back problems. His focus is on your overall health. Recently, I tore a rotator cuff and needed an opinion re surgery. The surgeon who fixed my other shoulder told me to come in for an appointment to get a referral for an MRI ... not an easy thing to do when you live 600 miles away. Gary wrote the referral for me and faxed it to the MRI center, and I was able to visit DC, get the MRI, and get both his chiropractic evaluation for the injury area AND a surgical opinion in 1 trip to the DC area. This is a great example of how Gary will work with you for holistic health solutions rather than contributing to a system that perpetuates unnecessary visits, fees, and drug-surgery only approach to medical care. I commend him strongly to all.

Went to whom the walk in ER recommended, Commonwealth Orthopedics Dr. Ben Kittredge, would never, ever, return there.(Basically he made me feel inadequate because I couldn't bend my frickin' dislocated broken finger and advised I just keep on moving it or he can give me a local and move it for me work around the scar tissue). Um, Nope. anyway, my regular doctors nurse recommended Manus center and Dr. Shepler. He was booked and since scar tissue was forming, I went with Dr. Emily Hattwick. EXCELLENT. Her advice, a few appointments, and one PT session I was finally able to grasp items once again, will never be 100% cured, but I am much better now, owe it all to Dr. Hattwick.

They put the finger in a splint, and told me it would take several weeks to heal. After a week or so, my pain got much worse, so I called Manus and was set up to see Dr. Emily Hattwick (who incidentally is no longer with Manus, but does still have a practice in the area). Dr. Hattwick reviewed my X-ray and immediately removed the splint. The other doctors had misread the X-ray; it wasn't broken at all. (They had identified a feeder vein as a fracture!) In fact, keeping the finger immobilized for so long had allowed the tendons to seize up, making the original injury worse. Dr. Hattwick set me up with the correct techniques and PT exercises to rehabilitate my finger. Following her advice, I was completely healed. My only issue is that their office is often so over-booked that appoinments run an hour (or more) behind. But that's just because they're actually competent - unlike some others.
