I went here for an anniversary. It fell short of my expectations. The good- the wait staff was knowledgeable, the menu was not too big or too small. We got a steak board and dessert board, both came out relatively quickly. The food itself was good, but wasn't noteworthy. Great location downtown, easy to walk around afterwards. The bad- I don't know if it was due to covid, but all the tables and chairs felt cheap and were rocking. The reviews and recommendations made me think the food was going to be delicious, but I thought it was lackluster. We ordered the 90$/120$ steak board. Steak was ok, spinach was good, potato was tasty (but potatoes are generally tasty). Dessert was good. The price seemed to be 30%-40% more expensive than what I would have paid for that quality of meal. Maybe it was because we went on a Friday night? My friends brought me and they hadn't been here for two years - BC, Before Covid. We didn't have reservations so we arrived at opening. Everyone was polite and ready to serve. In spite of what the other reviews where they complained about the service, it was excellent. Not too much in your face but plenty to keep things covered. Our food came out in a timely manner again they're making this as it's ordered for the most part so it's fresh. I could see in the kitchen and watch them cook my steak - not sous vide like Applebee's but cook it right then and it was most excellent. They're on the pricer side but then again it's quality product from fresh ingredients. The presentation was pleasant but not weird or over the top. I don't need anchovy foam on a cracker with flaming quail egg reduction to get a five star review from me - been there done that. This is nice especially for Melbourne, a step above street casual but still comfortable. It was too hot to sit outside but when the weather is good I bet it's nice. TL;DR - If you want a cheap steak go to Texas Roadhouse or Outback, they're the Checkers of Steakhouses. This place is local and not slaves to the corporate overlords. It's local, it's fresh, the drinks are poured generously but not over poured so they taste great. All in all it was a nice experience. Not just dinner, an experience. Took my wife here for her birthday. The meal was fabulous. The steak was cooked to perfection. Drinks were good. I recommend the "Fat Washed Manhatten." Our server, Kait, was very attentive and met our needs without us asking. I highly recommend this place for that special occasion, or for "just because." read more

We spent 265$ for the 60oz Tomahawk board. We waited 1 hour 15 minutes and got about 10-15 good pieces of steak. I forgot that so much of the weight was the bone. We wanted water and got charged 8$ for bottled water. I was scared to ask for bread because it might have been another 15$. The steak itself was most likely the best steak I have ever eaten despite it coming out partially undercooked (adding 10 minutes of wait for cook time). The bone marrow sauce and mushrooms were exquisite both in texture and richness of flavor. The amazing taste is the only reason this is not a 1 star rating. The reason for the 2 star review is because I spent over 300$ for steak that took almost 1 1/2 hours of waiting and I still had to go to chipotle after because I was still hungry. read more

I had a 7:30p reservation at Ember & Oak on a Saturday night. We ordered the Cauliflower appetizer, and the 32 oz Strip Steak on the Signature board as the entree. The food took extremely long to come out. The Cauliflower did not arrive until after 8:50pm. Again, our reservation was at 7:30p. Throughout this, our drinks were empty and to the side of the table. Our server did not come by to ask if we wanted another drink until around 9p. We ordered red wine to go with the steak. While the wine was good, the pours of the wine were extremely small. Mine especially definitely could not have been a 5 oz pour. The entree came out probably around 9:15p. Food was just OK, the steak didn't have much flavor and tasted a bit bland. I expected much more from a $150 dish. At no time did any manager come around to our table or any of the tables around us to ask how things were, which is standard at any high end establishment. When we left, not once did someone say "thank you for coming" or ask how everything was. We spent $250 on the meal, before tip, and left extremely disappointed with the overall experience. At that price point I expect a smooth operation, better customer service, and delicious food. read more

My wife and I visited on September 22nd and literally enjoyed one of the best meals we have ever had. Everything was perfect from the hostess to our amazing server, Alex, to the ambience and comfortable seating and, finally, to the superb food. We had the pork belly and scallops appetizer and I would put that amongst the top 2 or 3 appetizers I have ever eaten. Seriously. It was amazing. Then we enjoyed succulent Chateaubriand cooked to perfection. It was incredible. We finished with a peanut butter bar dessert (despite being stuffed) that combined numerous flavors and textures. It was also excellent. I don't normally ooh or ahh over restaurants anymore but this one literally knocked my socks off. We will definitely be back again and strongly recommend. read more

E&O has been one of my favorite restaurants of all time since it's open. Since starting my Yelp adventures, I was super excited to leave them a wonderful review after tonight's visit. But I'm sad to say I no longer feel the same way as they've changed items on the menu and how they are made. Where to start. [Wings] have changed in a negative way. The wings used to just come clean off the bone with a beautiful Asian style sauce. The wings we got tonight were all drums (we usually get drums and flats), they were VERY dry, and pretty spicy. I can handle quite a bit of spicy. But these were all spice and no flavor, my lips were even tingling. No honey or warm bourbon flavors. Would not order again. [Mushroom bruschetta] came to us with a hair in it, which had to be sent back to be remade. I understand accidents happen, but at a more upscale restaurant you expect these things not to happen. [Lobster and crawfish mac n cheese] was subpar. Not very creamy/cheesy. The caviar garnish was an odd and unpleasant additive. VERY fishy. Which we then scraped off. After continuing to eat, I had pulled a small bit of crawfish leg out of one of my bites. Very unpleasant. Would not order again. [Signature cheese fries] are always an amazing starter! I came to this restaurant for a birthday party that was pretty large so they separated us into two groups which was fine cuz we were close enough together. I didn't realize Melbourne had a restaurant with such high prices because the food didn't match them. The waitress was extremely rude ! Spoke down to our table and to our friends acting like they were so much better than us this was not an enjoyable experience for a birthday party they let it slide because it was their birthday but I did not this is not a restaurant I recommend and I wouldn't return to and I will not take down this review. read more

I gave this restaurants three chances but someone ells paid for the last meal. Each of the three meals was rather similar. The first time was by far and away the worst. The steak for two was overcooked under seasoned and full of gristle. The accompaniments on what they call a "" tray" left the lot to be desired. The use of bacon on top of bone marrow was rather hideous, enough to be funny. The wine list Is extraordinarily expensive. I understand that the owner is a chef. He must've not been in any of the three nights. The summer year was totally clueless, and our waitress who seemed Eastern European Kong did not know the menu at all. I requested a minor change in one of the Hayden served since I was allergic to it. This resulted in a back-and-forth conversation that was unpleasant at best and tawdry at worst. He said at the time I would not go back again, but I read several other reviews which stated that there was improvement. Both the second and third time were similar. Both times I had a steak for one and both times I avoided the "tray" routine. Each occasion the steak was overcooked despite my asking him twice before hand not to overcook it. A-Diet Coke or diet Pepsi I ordered was flat. The waitress never came to check on us. The same absolutely in adequate manager was still there. I would strongly recommend that you only walk by this place and not enter. It is extremely expensive, and really poor. read more

I heard this place has good food, my mistake was to order to go. I ordered 3 steaks and a pork schnitzel, sat at the bar and had a beer. Not crowed at all. Jan. 11th about 7.30pm. After my beer had a Old Fashion. Now easy 30 minutes gone by, bartender ask me would you like another drink, I said where's my order if ready no I have to get home. He comes back 5 minutes later and says 7 to 10 min ready. Ok let me pay my tab. About 10 minutes later food in bags ready to go, he mentioned steaks will be vacuum sealed to keep freshness in. I come home, which is only 4.7 miles from restaurant. Family dinner is here, by the way my bill was $256 dollars and tipped $35, so just under $300 for to go meal. Opened steaks, the butter is not melted in vacuum sealed bags with steaks supposedly just off the grill. My kids said steaks are cold. I tried my Filet and was cold butter not melted. My Wife Pork Schnitzel looked grey in color and not cooked at all. I'm on phone instantly. On phone with manager and he was not at all worried about my experience. I just left there 10 minutes ago. Told him issues and his exact words, sorry but were not responsible for this food once it leaves are restaurant. I'm like your kidding, I just spent $300 and you say sorry not your problem. Nothing we can do. So you know I told him I own a restaurant not far from his place, and said is a joke, I would comp our steaks and we come back another day and have dinner in house. He said nope, cant do nothing. I'm honest, I lost it, let him know where to put the $300 I spent. If he worked for me he be Fired no questions asked. Ember & Oak - Downtown Melbourne- 4.5-Stars "The reputation of a thousand years may be undermined by the conduct of one hour." -- Japanese Proverb With no Hostess/Host and no signage telling one what to do regarding seating, Ember & Oak upon the first impression, was in a total state of disarray. The one employee in the front of the house, William, seemed to be completely discombobulated by the crowd. Like the previously reviewed Cafe Margaux, Ember & Oak appeared to incorporate the "team service" ideology where everyone helps (in reality no one helps). Christian saved the day in that regard, but I get slightly ahead of myself. After being given ample time to devour the menu, a young man by the name of Christian approached and asked if I was ready to order. Christian was professional, attentive and did I mention he was attentive? I asked Christian if I could have an order of U8 Scallops, the 50 oz Dry Aged Prime Porterhouse and Benton's Country Ham Mac & Cheese. Christian asked if there was anything else he could get me before he adroitly spun and ran (restaurant speak, not literally) my order to the back. Awaiting my meal, I took the opportunity to glance around the place a bit. This previously was an Italian restaurant. While the Ember made the food a knock out it did ZERO to change the interior. Hey, when food is this good I would sit on a bare floor to eat it. Before too long, Christian was seen returning laden with a scrumptious selection of savory sustenance. My nostrils drank in the amazing aromas as I eagerly grabbed my implements of culinary destruction and dug into the U8 Scallops. The scallops were of the jumbo sea variety, tender, juicy and cooked to perfection. The puree was tart and spicy with a huge punch that really woke up the taste buds. The salsa (chutney?) was complex with a multitude of flavors all combining to form the perfect accompaniment to the sea scallops. This was a perfect start to a meal heretofore shadowed by the team approach of service (it was really bad). Moving on to the 50 oz Dry-aged Prime Porterhouse. Yes, you read that correctly, this was one massive hunk of prime meat (designed to be shared?) The meat was practically mooing on the plate it was so rare and oh so delicious! However, the side of Brussels Sprouts were spongy and not at all crispy as they should have been. The oxtail bone marrow was the perfect balance to the meat and a fantastic blend of flavors. The side Caesar salad, however, was, for lack of a better word, wonky. It was made from fresh ingredients, but something was just slightly off. This brings us to the final fare to be dissected, Benton's Country Ham Mac & Cheese. This was a complete and total let down after the awesome seared animal flesh and sea scallops that preceded it. I found the pasta to be soggy and not at all al dente. the cheese sauce was mild and exceedingly bland and the ham was just off base and unpleasant. In fact, I was giving them a 5 Star review all meal long, until this parted my lips. It would be a 5-star joint all day every day if one skips the Mac & Cheese. It is imperative that every reader knows that the Big Boy does not rate on ambiance, presentation or service. I am only concerned with the execution of the items. Period. However, with that said, the team service approach this place and Cafe Margaux use? IT SUCKS!!! I think it's a case of "someone else will take care of that on the team" and so no one does. I wanted to order some tapas but couldn't for the life of me get anyone to bring me a fresh plate. Went here on a weeknight with friends and the place was not crowded at all very few tables occupied. We choose to dine inside but keep in mind that the dining menu is different if you choose to eat inside than outside. So we had a party of (4). Everything just seemed to take a long time. From start to even getting our check to pay for the meal. Service was very slow and it's a shame because the place was not crowded and only a few tables occupied. The meal took a very long time. I ordered the "Hybrid" steak which is a "Wagu" and something else. I ordered Medium and it was too red for my liking and asked if it can be cooked longer and that literally took 1/2 hour. As I said everything just seemed to take such a very long time. When my steak came back it was still too rare for my liking and I was ready to go the meat was very chewy and just not a good piece. My dog finished it for me when I got home. I would come back and try the outside dining and order a burger from their food truck for outside dining. The Shrimp Toast was good and the Spinach. Other than that I think it too pricey and would not dine in again but I would like to try the outside. I'm guessing that the food from the food truck outside will probably be better. Such a fun experience and the steak boards look super impressive. Great for a fun date night out or night out with friends where you are looking to splurge, get a ton of food, and try new items. We tried the squash blossoms ($15) which were probably the best thing that night for me, oysters rockefeller ($15), grilled asparagus ($12), Ribeye steak board ($75), and lobster mac and cheese ($20). The steak was perfectly cooked and humongous. I wish the bone marrow had more actual bone marrow in it but what it did have was awesome. The caramelized mushrooms were amazing. All the other items weren't that noteworthy but were fine. Everything was cooked with a bunch of cream and dressing, definitely is not a light meal. The mac and cheese was sort of a let down (very small, watery and barely any lobster pieces). The interior is super stylish. A restaurant of this caliber & generation is definitely welcomed and needed in Melbourne and I generally enjoyed my experience here and will give it a try again. We dined on the patio on a Thursday and ordered the 32 oz Tomahawk ribeye, racquette, and gourmet burger, which was the special of the evening. We also invested $25 on debit card for the wine room. The steak & accoutrements were delicious, with highlights being the creamed spinach and marrow. Shared among four adults, the portions were suitable, although not generous. We were a little surprised by how slight the 32 oz. portion ended up being for each of us, but each bite was delectable and the sauce pairings and additional sides were tasty. Our server was enthusiastic and sweet, and although a bit green, generally accommodating to our requests. We loaded a wine debit card, which is always fun, but were encouraged not to use the Wine Room during dinner service, a vague and somewhat confusing suggestion by the waiter. Considering that most of the wines by the glass started at $12, that policy (if you can even call it that) was off-putting. The Wine Room is definitely fun with some unusual small batch offerings. This restaurant boasts one of the best outdoor spaces in downtown, and the courtyard will be perfect especially once the weather cools down. I would have love to have seen the courtyard free of debris, tables wiped and set for service, candles lit, etc (hostesses were setting tables as they were sat). The kitchen mats drying on the fences near the back were most offensive to me, as was the unattended, unwiped outside bar. For me, when investing hundreds of dollars into a weeknight meal, the devil is in the details. The club euro lounge music blasting was annoying too, and we were grateful the server complied with our request to turn it down a notch. Management, please read the crowd and time of day a bit and spend some time on a more chill, appropriate playlist for earlier diners. Or better yet, live local music would be a wonderful addition outside. I truly hope this restaurant has the longevity and success it deserves. Culinary finesse and flavor aside, the next time we visit fingers crossed the space is tidied up a bit and the ambiance matches the price tag. read more

It was a very small pour for $13+ per glass. We ordered Pinot noir's, but we got one Pinot and the other was ? . We sent it back to get the correct wine. The food was not what we expected. Both our steaks were under cooked. We had to send them back. Also, the steaks are served on garlic butter, which I didn't care for. The vegetables were cooked/charred on an open flame. This was our third time at E&O. First time was absolutely amazing. Second time wasn't amazing, but good. Tonights experience was absolutely disappointing to say the very least. We ordered the Seafood board and a Steak board. First thing I cut into was the scallops. The middle of them were ice cold! Like they were literally seconds right out the freezer and into the pan briefly then right onto our board. Had to send them back. I should've sent back my steak because it was only room temperature. I feel like that steak should be right off the grill and onto your plate and delivered to the table ASAP. You can tell my steak was laying around for awhile before it was brought to me. Then it came time for dessert, it was approx 8pm. We ordered the cheesecake and two coffees. At around 8:45 our server brought us the bill. We asked her what happened to the cheesecake and coffee. She replied "Oh, you still want them"? Um, yeah we wanted them! When the cheesecake finally came out, an hour after we ordered it, the manager came over and asked how everything was. We told him that the cheesecake just came out after waiting an hour for it and we still don't have our coffee. He apologized to us and said he'd grab our coffee for us. We finished the coffee and cheesecake and waited around another 15 minutes. Our server was nowhere to be found. I had to ask another employee for our check. I totally expected to have at the very least the $6.00 a piece coffee's taken off our order....NOPE....nothing was comp'd or discount given or anything. So disappointed. I am not afraid to pay premium money for a premium experience. This was far from premium tonight! And honestly, I'm not sure if we are going back. I've been here three times over the past 12 months. The first time was incredible -- meats superb, sides delicious, and drinks perfect. It was 8 months before I came back and I was so excited -- we'd been talking about returning for months. That visit was a total letdown. The ribeye was odd tasting; the only delicious parts were the salad, bread, and Brussels sprouts. The drink menu, which is ever changing, was lackluster to me. I would have sent back the meat but i was with colleagues and didn't want to create a fuss. I thought perhaps it was me but when my husband tasted the leftovers I brought home; he agreed it was not good and they were tossed. I went back last week with my husband; hoping the last time was just a one-off. If anything, it was worse. We shared the porterhouse. Husband has rarely met a steak he didn't like and while he did eat some, he definitely did not love it. I thought it was entirely too fatty and tough and chose to mainly eat the Brussels sprouts (still quite good). The drink menu had improved and I enjoyed two Top Models. I don't recall the service the first two times, but this last time was mediocre, at least at our table (the bartender who served us was great). It was slow and he seemed robotic; for example, we mentioned from the start that we'd been to Ember & Oak several times yet he stayed on script as if it was our first time. If we return, I doubt we will order a meal. After spending nearly $400 (after tip) for two and being unsatisfied with the quality of meat, we are no longer excited to come back. The family heard great things about this restaurant however our experience was mediocre at best. First the tables are very small. After being water, alcoholic beverages, plates and silverware there was little room for anything else. The plates were extremely small and the silverware was hard to use. The knife specifically has an odd shaped handle that caused knife to not lay flat on the plate which then would slide off the plate abs ended up on the table. The beer selection was mostly micro brew. At first I was told there was no domestic beer available however I did discover Mich Ultra in draft. I would hope a steak restaurant would have a better beer selection and not weird micro brews like peanut butter or berry flavored beers but that was not the case. We ordered the oyster Rockefeller and fries as a starter. The fries was suppose to have a little flare to it. When they bring it out the server was suppose to scrape melted cheese off the block onto the fries. This did not happen. The cheese was already in the fries when it was served. The cheese was no longer melted and had already hardened. It was not very appetizing. We ordered the ribeye steak board. The steak was cooked perfectly however it was very very salty. I don't use a lot of salt when I cook so I asked the family their thoughts and everyone agreed it was very salty. I ate a few pieces then passed on the rest of the steak. I don't think it was from a seasoning put on the steak but sea salt applied after the steak was cooked and cut on the board. Either way if you order the steak and don't like copious amounts of salt I highly recommend asking them to allow you to salt your own steak. The service was very good. The food was bland & one of the steaks we medium cook not charged at all, kind of mushy & full of fat. A $30 steak that is bland. For being a steakhouse they did not have their own steak sauce, brought out A1. The apple bourbon sauce was like apple sauce. The drinks are over priced & taste like a bland basic drink. No disincentive flavor, had better at apple bees and Buffalo Wild Wings. The garlic fries are probably the best thing you could get. We paid $130 for a platter, only really enjoying the potato. The spinach was bland and basic. The mushrooms weren't Portabella. They were basic as well. The dessert was superb. Bottom line this place is only for aesthetics not flavor We arrived at 6:40. We arrived early for our reservation and had a drink at the bar. The service was great, and the drinks were very good. The bartender (Ed) did everything right. The table service was bad... Not bad for a casual restaurant, but bad for one of the "nicer" restaurants in the area. The server walked over almost immediately and asked if we had decided. We hadn't even opened the menus. He asked if we had been in before, we said no, and he didn't share anything about the menu or restaurant. He was just an order taker. When the food arrived, there was a mixup in plates to seat numbers. It was confusing because 3/4 of us ordered the same steak, but cooked at different levels and different add ons. Everyone had the wrong dish in front of them. We were dining outside, and it started to get windy with rain on the way. The server was nowhere to be found after the food came out. We were planning to order more drinks and dessert, but the weather and lack of service made it impossible to do so. Some of the food was outstanding, and other dishes were mediocre at best. The great: The filet, the truffle butter and spicy chili butter, the Brussel sprouts, the truffle Mac and cheese. The poor: The ribeye--- why would you precut a ribeye. It doesn't make sense to me to ever precut a steak because of the loss of temperature and moisture. But, eating a ribeye is a process of cutting around the fat, at least for me. When it was precut, it just messes up the whole process. The mashed potatoes were not great quality either, and not necessarily "shareable". Overall, E&O has potential. I visited when they opened... before they were even a steakhouse, and it's improved tremendously since then. But, they still have a ways to go before I would consider making this a regular stop. read more

Great restaurant with a beautiful atmosphere. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. Food is top notch. Im not a huge steak fan but i had to give it a try, the wagu just melts in your mouth! We also had the bruschetta....omg! It was delicious. If you are in the area, give this place a try! Totally worth every dollar. read more

We celebrated a birthday here and everything was amazing. They called me ahead to see if there was a special occasion which was a nice touch. The decor and ambiance is really nice, I really liked the light fixtures. They usually give you bread but we have a gluten allergy so they comped us fries which I appreciate (also the fries were delicious). The service was really good. Friendly, knowledgeable and tended to your needs without buzzing around. Drinks were very good, the appetizers were great but the main dish was the most exciting. We both got swordfish which was perfectly cooked - tender inside with a little crisp on the outside. Lots of vegetables and sauces to give a variety of colors, textures and flavors. Be sure to budget around $100 a person, more if you get steak. Highly recommend! read more

Second time there. Good food, the steaks are great but thats about it. A restaurant should not be about making you feel that spending $150 a person happens every day and that Ember and Oak just did you the biggest favor. Not that good folks. Being going to the best steak houses and restaurants all over the world- on a first name basis - they will kiss your ass at Smith amd Wollensky or Keenes or Charlie Palmer. Four out of five answers are "No", maybe because I sat at the outdoor bar where the bartneders have to go inside to fetch a cabernet, or have the wrong spiel about why there is no bread - no bread at a steakhouse! Wow! the bartender actually offered french fries - imstead of bread while Im having the loaded potato. And the excuse about rationing the brioche was for 5 year old kindergarden kids. So whether the help is coming from the retail, or construction or some other indistry - definitely not food service - few things: 1. Youre actually not doing anyone a favor at $150 a person 2. Being new doesnt excuse attitude - and 3. Lets get some bread in the place and whoever thouggt that there are only 5 brioches to be served with the pate - dust off your restaurant school books, you served no pate and didnt dish out any brioches but your bartenders protected the brioches because there may be more people showing up at 10 pm on Christmas Eve. PLEASE. Thankfully most people dont t need the fire pit ambiance to justify a lousy experience. read more
