Went with a group of friends. My girlfriend and I loved the Sweet Heat ginger infused vodka margarita-ish spicy cocktail----so yummy! A must in my opinion. Other than that I could not remember any dish worth mentioning. It was not bad but not memorable. It's a little small so it's best to make reservations. We had some olives, several fire bread pizzas, duck wing appetizer, grilled tuna and a lemon tart dessert...triple chocolate martini --- all were just okay. One thing that was very annoying was the slabs used for the pizzas were huge and they used oblong plates for most dishes - annoying because the table was not that large and we all had to constantly move stuff around to fit everyone's dish. read more

Save your money and stay at home. Four of us dined on Saturday nite, all four entrees needed to be sent back. Pizzas uncooked and blah, Risotto was a strange texture. The restaurant's kitchen is focused around their wood oven. It's a great idea. I had a wonderful northern Italian style white lasagna that was unexpectedly delicious. I also had a wonderful Malbec with my meal. The rest of the menu is very diverse. It's kind of like the United Nations. There's entries and appetizers from all over, Mexico, Italy, Vietnam, the "Mediterranean," etc. This sort of thing annoys me, much like the UN annoys me. It's week and all over the place. I also found the waitress to be very nice but not well informed. Again, much like the people who think the UN does good things in the world. I'd go back for the lasagna, but I wouldn't be surprised if this place was on one of the failed restaurant TV shows first. read more

Went to Embers last night for happy hour Been there many times and have enjoyed their rotating 5 dollar tapas which are served only on the bar area. Every seat at the bar was occupied so when we asked the manager If there was somewhere else to sit he said the sofa area only. That was obviously occupied When I asked if we could sit at a 2 top right by the bar, he said no. Really? It was early and only one table in the entire restaurant was occupied. They would rather turn away paying people then bend the "rule?" The manager curtly told us to come back another time and that they have hh every day they are open. Not likely... read more

This is my new favorite place on the island. Had my Husband's surprise birthday party here and they did an amazing job! Jason was super accommodating and helped me make this very special for my Husband and guests. The food was delicious and I can't wait to go back. We had a variety of appetizers- baked Brie, patatas brava, arrancini's, etc. and they were all really good. I had the Georgia shrimp with the risotto and it was absolutely amazing. We will definitely be back. Heather was our waitress and she was beyond attentive. She was constantly making sure we didn't need anything and was accommodating with our requests as well. I come here solely for the Sweet Heat, which is a wonderful jalapeño ginger infused vodka drink. Tonight I was surprised to be charged happy hour prices for my drinks but full price for my Brie. I was told by Alex the bartender that the "drink happy hour is until 6:30 but the food happy hour is only until 6:00." What?! That's not what was posted at the door nor explained when I ordered. Amazing food! We had the Brie as a starter and that was delicious. Steaming hot Brie with a yummy remoulade and focaccia type bread. The menu changes daily. My husband had a pork chop with rice and he LOVED it. I had the short rib and it was paired with mushrooms, mashed potatoes and au jus sauce and it was amazing. We then had to have dessert, this changes frequently as well, so we had the Heathen and it was delish. It's like a rich dark chocolate cheesecake. Disappointing. Walked in at 6 and asked for a table for 2. Was told no tables till 8:30. Sat at the bar and when we left still 3/4 of the tables were empty. We left a little after 7PM. Had the Duck wings. They use to be not so spicy. My lips were burning. Pizza was good but asked for meat and not much meat. First time I visited Ember was about 6 months after it opened. Never, have I ever, had such DELICIOUS egg rolls! Although I have never had anything there that I didn't love, I wasn't expecting the wonderfully seasoned and cooked egg roll! Dining here was a complete joy from the food to the service to ambiance. Our waitress, Rheanna, was the best. She made sure we received the best experience possible. There was a young woman walking around the restaurant who was very engaged in the goings on. When we asked our waitress we found out she was the owner. Rheanna told us she is the best boss she ever had. The Owner also visited our table twice to see how we were doing and to chat a bit. Interesting tidbit we learned is that the wood fire pizza oven is named Beatrice and a beauty she was. We had four different small plates served at a wonderful pace and all were a ten (five per Yelp rating). If you go, do not miss the shrimp scampi. It is not your ordinary dish. Wow! The food and cocktails (especially the Old Smash) are delicious. The atmosphere is upscale casual. (You don't feel like you're in a strip mall...very well decorated.). However, CAUTION: the sweet tea and Coke are NOT free refills, so at $3/each, it'll get pricey. The pot de creme is rich and tasty. Dined here recently and what a great find.Shared the flat bread..it was tasty but rim of the crust appeared charred but the base of the crust lacked crispness of any sort. Baked Brie was dynamo ( as was the freshly baked bread but wish there had been a tad more Brie and way more dish licking jam. Hubs had the Chowdah and it was oh so yummy. Margaritas were decent but served in weird soda type glasses with WAY too much ice and too little margarita. Our server, Connie rates 10 stars--helpful, attentive, with great timing. read more

Finally, a contemporary restaurant on SSI with an urban, hip feel and really inspired food. The room is modern restaurant design, edgy and cool, but has comfortable seating with great chairs and banquettes. A wood burning fire bread oven dominates the entrance with the open kitchen just behind it so the chefs can use it too to get some smoke on their preparations.The bar is perfectly placed on the back wall. Lighting was spot on and noise level was just right. You feel like you've somehow been beamed into this place considering it's in the shopping center with Winn Dixie (but that makes parking easy). The food is Mediterranean influenced small plates that are outstanding and cost conscious, The fingerling potato appetizer (Patatas Bravas) was wonderful. The Caesar salad was grilled, smoky whole heads of romaine with an amazing creamy dressing. I had the Firebread (okay, it's pizza). There were some very creative drinks and the regular fare, but the pricing is noticeably less than many restaurants here and the pours are better. Service was very professional, The wait staff wears really cool aprons and seem happy to be there. The owner was very present and approachable. The chef, Mary Schowe, is creative and knowledgeable and clearly loves to cook. And it's fun to watch her do just that thanks to the very visible kitchen. We've followed her for several years and watched her adjust constantly to what's growing and what works in any given season. We expect she will do just that at Ember. In sum, a very promising start and a bold step toward more sophisticated dining on St. Simons Island. Ember is breaking new ground the way Dave Snyder (Halyards, Tramici) and Palmer Fortune (Palmer's Village Café) have over recent years. read more

Though the approach is nothing special (end unit in a nondescript strip mall), we already began warming to the place upon reaching for its impressive front door. What the door promises, the decor supports--a serious wood burning oven, open to both the kitchen and the dining room, is flanked by heavily-grained, glowing, amber-colored stone counter tops (cut thin and lit from below) leading to a well-appointed dining room with seating both attractive and comfortable (our party ranged in height from 5'1" to 6'). Most importantly, though, what the door promises and the decor supports, the menu delivers in spades. The focus here is farm to fire--local and regional ingredients exposed directly to flame and ember--and the approach is thoughtful--it's evident in each dish that consideration is lavished from concept through presentation. Among the items we ordered, the caprese salad included lovely roasted onions and the roasted beet salad was nicely balanced with citrus, goat cheese and arugula. The confit duck wings were unbelievably delectable. The "lambpops" in sour cherry sauce were cooked to perfection (though the sauce was a bit bombastic for my taste). Pizzas: the green was very nice, the bahn mi was lovely, the Danny Boy was amazing. The spaghetti and meatballs, completely house made in all its elements, was a real treat--lamb and goat meatballs with a sauce built on oven roasted tomatoes. For desert we had a chocolate something and a cheese cake, both of which brought accolades from my companions (while I was just too over saturated to go on). The wine list, a bit different than one generally sees (sourced from bio-dynamic and/or organic producers, our server explained), provides surprisingly enjoyable wine at remarkably good prices. We had a group there tonight hoping to add this restaurant to our rotation for the island. The service was excellent and the atmosphere is upscale Atlanta. The bar area reminds me of Nava when it was opened in Atlanta. However, this is an island and upscale better be upscale. If you are interested in flat bread pizza and salad, you are in the right place. The vegatable dishes were tasteless. It is hard to cook broccoli and cauliflower in a wood fire grill and make them taste right without sauce. The flat bread pizza was very good and so was the okra char. The meat dishes were not impressive as the steak is a hanger steak(flank) and not worth the price in my opinion. The veal chop was mostly fatty with no filet portion. I would have thought a chef from Fredrica Golf Club would know this island better. The bar area is fun with a lot of fusion drinks. The dessert menu is very limited. So, if you need a good fusion drink with a salad and a flat bread pizza this might be the place, or you might check out other restaurants nearby. read more

The food was very good and our server was delightful, but she was over-seated. We waited 1hr 45 minutes after ordering to get our food. Some of the servers and kitchen staff were doing tequila shots at the food service window while we were waiting for our food...might explain why they dropped our appetizer on the floor. A recorded message said to leave your name and phone number and someone will call back to take your reservation. Center of pizza could be a little more crisply cooked. Dough is very tasty. Tonight the chef accommodated our special request and we cherry-picked a 'veggie plate' from the meat entrees. Creamed corn, boiled and buttered red turnips (picked this morning and it showed) and 'macncheesus' (fantastic!). It's always nice to have a new restaurant in the area. Ember is a welcomed addition. But, like most of the other restaurants in the area, the experience is just OK at best. The most enjoyable part of the meal was the Caprese Salad - charred tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil in balsamic vinaigrette. I ordered one of the "fire bread" dishes. This is like a small pizza. It was good, but nothing to write home about. I've had a small appetizer pizza at Wolfgang Puck's restaurant in Las Vegas that was delicious. This can't compare. My partner had a steak and left a third of it which was fat and gristle. You shouldn't have to leave a third of your steak. The wine was fine, they had two different Cotes du Rhones which is unusual in this area. That pleased me. The waitress was really nice and friendly.
