We popped in a little before 8 on a Friday and was told there was a 1.5 hour wait. Instead we made reservations for another day. The restaurant is pretty popular so I'd definitely recommend a reservation. Eating food at Emily's was an emotional roller coaster. I had such high hopes for it. I've heard Emily's is well known for their burger and pizzas so we knew what we had to get. We had ordered the Emily pizza, Emmy burger, and tequila you later cocktail. The cocktail came first. It was decent, not too sweet. The burger came next. The beef of the burger was super flavorful. I loved the caramelized onions and pickles. I think it was a really really good burger but it coming just under $30 was pretty pricey. The curly fries that it came with were perfectly cooked. Crispy on the outside, not oily. I think I associate curly fries with seasoned fries so I wanted more of a seasoning on the fries but it seems like a simple salted fry. The Emily pizza came next. I think the crust of the pizza was amazing. Detroit style. Crusty and crispy, but not burnt. Also not oily. However, I know Emily's is known for their white pizza (the Emily pizza in particular) so I felt like I had to try it. The flavor combo was unique and well thought out but genuinely just not for me. Should have known because I don't tend to like white pizza but wanted to try their signature pie. Basically, I thought the pizza had great potential. Well made and the chef knows their flavor combos, just not for me. I think I would really enjoy one of their red or pink pizzas. A real disappointment--we got the Szechuan oil on the side for the pizza. I'm 100% confused. This Szechuan oil is $2 extra and it tasted nothing like Szechuan oil should. We had a reservation for 7:45 on Thursday night at Emily, we arrived 15 mins early but table wasn't ready so we grabbed a quick drink next door which was great. Once we got seated the hosts let us know we only had until 9PM and then they need the table back...we thought this was kinda odd considering it's typically at least 90 mins and again we had a reservation we weren't walk ins. But the food and drinks were all really good so we really enjoyed the experience. The burger was specifically a big meal highlight, and the drinks were not overly sweet at all but perfectly balanced. The only feedback I have about food was the VIP pizza was a bit doughy in the middle. What really put me off was that the host came over at 8:56 and said "just letting you know you have 3 mins left" which is just rude imo, again we made a res ahead of time and to rush customers who got a full meal and two drinks each seems innappropriate. Perfectly timed, the pies came out as the cocktails and cauliflower were finished and we proceeded to destroy the sausage, cherry pepper and onion Streetfair first. Wow. The Detroit style pan pizza is pretty damn unique! The crust is crispy, fat and springy and holds the juicy toppings and sauce pretty damn well. The sausage was uncased and crumbly and blended seamlessly with the homemade red sauce. After two squares each, we shifted our attention to the pepperoni, jalapeño and honey ARENSTEIN next. After eating in their other restaurant Violet in the east village I set my radar on Emily mostly because Violet was so good and I wanted to try the famous Emily burger. We had a 4pm reservation on Labor Day and arrived a few minutes early and were told our table was just about ready. It's a smallish restaurant with closely spaced tables but was comfortable nonetheless. We opted out of pizza as we had it the night before and decided to start with a Caesar salad which was very good. My wife then ordered the meatball appetizer for her main course and I had the burger which came with curly fries on the side. It was one of the best burgers I have had, definitely in the top five or less! My wife said the meatballs were very good but may have been a bit salty. RESERVATIONS: Made reservations through Resy about 3 weeks before the date. For 3 people it wasn't too hard to find but it had to be on a Sunday night. We got it for 6:45pm and good thing. The pretzel bun is soft but fluffy and slightly toasted on the bottom. The meat was flavorful although not the most flavorful meat I've had it was very good and tender. The cheese was subtle and the caramelized onions and pickles added a nice tartness that cut through the rest of the flavors. Basically, flavor explosion on very good ingredients. This is definitely not your traditional burger and it's messy, but very good. If you want to try pizza I suggest splitting the burger and the pizza. At $26, it's not cheap but worth every penny! EMILY PIZZA - their Detroit style pizzas are "grandma" style square pan pizzas. If you think of Pizza Hut pan pizza, it's similar. The crust isn't really a typical crust but like a nice edge on the pizza that is crispy and buttery. The Emily has no tomato sauce, which I like, pistachio, honey and truffle cheese. All the flavors are subtle and not too overpowering, it was like a very good flatbread. The dough is perfectly soft, fluffy and chewy. The crust was crispy. This isn't your typical New York style thin crust pizza so if this isn't your think you may not enjoy it. Emily is located where the old Blur Ribbon Bakery was. The menu is simple enough and you won't get lost in it. The Emmy Burger brought over from famed burger joint Emmy Square was good but it might not be for everyone. There is this sweet Emmy sauce on it that I didn't particularly like. Meat is of great quality but the overall taste didn't do well against my taste buds. Don't get me wrong, if you like burgers, chances are you will like it. But it's no Black Label from Manettas. Shoestring fries are very crispy. The Detroit style pizza is just a Sicilian style like pie. Square. Focaccia like dough. Looks beautiful but it just tasted okay. So I went here to catch up with an old friend from High School. We decided to split the burger and a pizza so we could get the full experience. The burger at Emily was good, but in my opinion is not the best in NYC. It does have asian influence though, specifically Korean influence on the sauce that is used. While I was lucky enough to stop by to try some food from before they were open, I just visited again on the night of their grand opening and everything is just as good, if not better, than the first two restaurants from the Emily team. Tonight we tried the Pig Freaker pizza ($22), named after the nearby Pig Bleecker restaurant and topped with bacon and kimchi. This is one of their "Detroit Style Grandma" pies, which is a little different from the pies from Emmy Squared, as it is not as thick but is a bit denser. It still has that amazingly addictive crispy cheesy crust though. We also got the Lammy Burger Double Stack ($24), a new lamb burger that is nearly as destination-worthy as the new version of the Emmy Burger. The burger lives up to the hype. It IS the best burger I've ever had, but like marginally better than the others. The burger is clearly very fresh. Each ingredient is excellent. So my boyfriend chose this restaurant and I will continue to thank him until the end of time for introducing me to the Arenstein pizza. It's a vodka base with pepperoni, pickled chili, and a honey drizzle on top. The waitress warned us that the pickled chili is a bit spicier than most (always love a good heads up) so we got half with and half without. THANK GOD. She was not joking. I know I'm a wimp, but the one bite I had with it lingered for a good couple minutes. Anyhoo - this pizza. So amazing. Sweet and tangy and just absolutely amazing. I've recreated it a couple times since I've been there and will never be able to do it justice. I have to admit, when I first saw the price I was like, "LOL PSYCH" but it is so worth it! We thought it looked cute and the wait was always super long, especially if you didn't have a reservation, so we thought this must be good! We ended up trying it and boy were we impressed. After reading a ton of reviews and hearing about this "Detroit" style pizza I had to try Emily. From the service to the food, it was a fantastic experience. For a party of two on a Thursday night at 730, the wait was about 40 min. By the time we were leaving around 930, it was over an hour wait. But that's to be expected for a new, highly reviewed place like this. We got the sprouts salad to start. After 10 min of waiting a chef came out and asked if we had received our app yet. After we informed him we did not he came back within 5 min with the salad as well as the carrot app- totally unnecessary but much appreciated. Both were delicious and would highly recommend them. For dinner we split a Grammy pie and added garlic, onions and chilis and half and spicy anchovies on the other. Wasn't exactly sure what to expect with Detroit style but it was great- crisp, not too thick and a great sauce. Almost wished we would have just gone with a plain to enjoy it in its simplest form. Didn't get the burger but the guy next to us did. Definitely one of the messier burgers I've see. In a while, but looked good and he thoroughly enjoyed. didnt feel like having a burger so i got the spicy honey pepperoni detroit style pizza instead. it was a solid choice but then i tried some of my friend's burger and it was so juicy and tender. the sauce was *chef's kiss* if i had to chose again, i would get the burger 8 times out of 10. dont get me wrong, the pizza was pretty good as well... crispy, yet doughy, with a slight kick but sweet and salty as well. depends on what you are in the mood for. anyway, highly recommend the emmy burger. as for service, it was empty when i came here but still took 20 minutes to get any service despite 5 employees just standing around doing nothing. eh, i wasnt in a rush or anything, but if youre impatient, know that this could happen. read more

Not the best burger I've ever had. Fries were delicious. Emily pizza was good. Luca pizza was good. Definitely not the best pizza I've ever had, but a solid choice. I wouldn't wait to get in this restaurant or go out of my way to eat here. read more
