I attended a business lunch at Mark's Off Madison. The space is cozy but elegant. They do make the effort to fit as many tables as they can in that space that when it's packed, it can be difficult to sit back to back with someone behind you at another table. The first time I sat at the table, my faculty advisor said, "You HAVE to try the Lasagne Della Nonna!" I said "Really?" Then she played me an Instagram video on how it's prepared (https://www.instagram.com/reel/CpGKkCigKnb/?igsh=MXQ4cG5tMm5peDh6dA==). My mouth was watering after watching the video, so I ordered it. When the plate arrived, the Lasagna was covered in a beautiful sauce that radiated a beautiful orange color and smelled incredibly seasoned. The sauce was generously applied to the large portion. The Lasagna was savory, but the addition of cream to the sauce added an almost slight sweetness to it. If they sold jars of that sauce, I would buy it, because I am convinced that it is THE best Lasagna I have ever had in my life! I felt bad telling my hubby that at first because he is known for making lasagna; but then I brought him home a slice, and I quickly made him a convert! For NYC locals or visitors, Mark's Off Madison is a worth while place to visit. It's a beautiful fall Saturday afternoon. I'd like to sit outside off Madison (see what I did there?) but my wife has a new doo. We're looking over the menu and zero on Straussie's Smoked Fish Platter. House cured lox, Nova, Sable and Whitefish salad?? We ordered two Aperol Spritz's to get the party started. Do you know how you go to a Chinese restaurant and they put noodles on the table? Well MoM puts out bagels for the table. Such a baller move Mark! The smoked fish, we have never had sable this high quality before. It was smoky, buttery and just melt in your mouth delicious. The white fish salad and nova, slayed as well! This is probably a one and done for us! The restaurant is quite lovely but the experience fell flat. We ordered an old fashioned and it was literally two sips. The food was also not memorable. We tried the lobster roll and the French dip and it was tasty but a lot of bread and just not a do over. Really hate this wasn't better. The host was up against in with juggling door dash drivers, being on the phone non-stop, and seating parties. In all that, I managed to have 4 sets of people walk right in front of me waiting and get seated. No big deal, but a little more attention should be paid to who is standing in front of you. So after that, and a bar seating area was filled in front of me - I was sat at the bar directly in the way of those coming in and out of the restaurant. The bartender was very prompt and nice - and I ordered an Old Fashioned and a Diet Coke. OF was good - standard issue. I started with a wedge salad, which was good and the normal execution you would expect. They also served a three piece of table bread which was regular, sourdough, and an onion type of focaccia. The first two were good but I didn't try the onion one. For my entree, I ordered the chicken parmesan. This is served with penne vodka and the cutlet is served with a tri-color sauce topping. Been coming here for the last 4 years (since 2021), the restaurant is situated as the name states, right off of Madison Ave., across the street from the famed Madison Square Park. There is outdoor dining with two columns of tables outside, indoor isn't bad either, you just hear people louder. Th owner/chef used to be big cheese at Barney's restaurant before they shut down, the store filed for bankruptcy, not the restaurant. The vibe is American fine dining with elements of Jewish and Italian cuisine. You'll also find their coveted lasagna alongside bagels and ceviche. Please order the Belgian Fries with your meal, it is absolutely worth it. Everything I've had has been great. My favorite right now is their lasagna, it truly is to die for, the pizza is equally delicious, not your typical restaurant slice...M.O.M. Also has the best donuts on the East Side, I haven't tried their bagels yet. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The host is OK, I've noticed he can have a chip on his shoulder at times so don't be snooty. Overall will be coming back as long as their food remains consistent, which it is. Marks is really just a fancy diner and I mean that in the best way possible. The menu is varied but limited. Whatever they do they do well. We started with the bread basket which was one of the best I've ever had. The bagels were the best part. I wasn't expecting this to be as good as it was. We then shared a pig in the blanket appetizer. They were the best I've ever had but the $30+ price tag was a little bit crazy to me. That being said we really did enjoy the hot dog. For dinner we shared a Belgian fries and lasagna. The fries were perfect. Crispy, thick. The lasagna was very good. I don't think it was the best ever. I had to add some salt (which I never do). Once it was salted the flavors popped a little more. I'd still go back to Marks and if I lived there I'd be there often. read more

I must acknowledge the attractive artistic appearance of the "M" insignia written in pesto. Regardless of how full you feel, there's always room for sweets. The lemon cake was definitely my favorite. It had a tart, lemony flavor with a heaping side of blueberry sauce. The upside peach pie was literally upside down with the crust on the bottom and fruit on top. Regardless of whether it's right side up or upside down, the taste was still the same and I cleared this dessert! Aside from these heavenly dishes, the service was phenomenal. 1 Star -- Marks Off Madison A reservation was made and party arrived just 10 minutes late because--shocker--it's New York City on Madison Avenue and parking is a nightmare. Instead of any understanding, the reservation was revoked on the spot. Party then was treated rudely and arrogantly by someone who claimed to be the owner. The attitude was pretentious, snooty, and completely unwelcoming. If this is how they treat paying customers, it's no wonder the place feels hostile to anyone trying to do business. It's a more refined take, with not super cheesy, but the pasta was exceptional. You can tell it's made with care. I used to love this place. They were always a reliable staple with good service and good food. Unfortunetly my last experience was a bit lack luster. In terms of the food everything was decent - nothing was "bad" but none of us were impressed. I am a huge fan of their octopus but they changed the dish completley from the last time I had it (over the summer) and it is no where near as good now. The Tuna tartare was good but again, not great. The service was very off - all the wait staff looked unhappy and we had 3 different people acting as our waiter? To the point where we ordered with one and then another came to our table and told us we "deprived him of getting our order"? Overall disappointing experience but worth another try. read more

Filled with meat and béchamel, topped with a pinkish sauce similar to a vodka sauce and dotted with pesto. It was perfection! I love that they offer split entrees so you and your dining companion can share! The half lasagne was exactly what I needed before heading to a broadway show. I also tried their matzoh ball soup which was very flavorful. I loved that the veggies still had their crunch. Would I order it again for $18? Maybe not. But I would definitely recommend the lasagne. So I took an expensive Uber, around the block on a Saturday night only to find that the restaurant was closed for a private event. Pretty annoying. I spoke to the gentleman on the phone, which is when I found this out as the door was locked. I proceeded to ask him to place an order and he rudely dismissed me and told me to "just order it on the apps." and then abruptly hung up. I didn't want to waste more time and money so I did that. Mind you it was a little chilly out and I wasn't allowed to wait inside for my $42 lasagna. Honestly? Even without the bad experience before ever taking a bite? MID. Extremely mid. Let's start with the fact that when I made it back to my hotel and opened up the bag, there were no fucking utensils. So I waited to be picked up and ate it at my man's place instead. Came here to celebrate my father's in law's 65th birthday. We had a reservation but there were plenty tables available on a Thursday afternoon. The servers were attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly as they recommended a Spanish white wine for us to order. We got the fries with trio dip which was a good appetizer. We shared the chicken parm and the lasagna which were both delicious! Definitely get the lasagna which is made fresh every day.
