My sister and brother in law were excited to try out this spot as they heard great things about it. My bestie and I tried the cheeseburger, Detroit style pizza and brussel sprouts salad. Surprisingly my favorite dish was the brussel salad. It was light, fresh, and crispy - whatever dressing they had in it was refreshing. Now to the burger. I've had a lot in my life, and this one was majorly disappointing. We all agreed there was no flavor. Wouldn't get that again. The Detroit style pizza helped make up for the disappointing burger. I typically don't gravitate towards this style, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was light and the i gradients blended well together. It was a little spicy which we liked. This was borderline a 2 star experience . The service was bad - waiter pushing us to order more and add expensive add-ons , bring in the appetizer and the main course together . Not great As for the food it was a little better - the double burger was ok but I wouldn't say it was medium-rare as promised (2.5/5). The Detroit style pizza (mvp flavor) was ok but not one of the best I had - the dough was so-so and tomato sauce did not feel fresh(3/5). I've been to four of the Emily locations, and they've all been consistently good, which is rarely the case once a business expands. I do have a soft spot for the OG location in Clinton Hill since I lived there for 14 years, but I am also happy to see the business continue to expand and thrive. I recently visited the West Village location with my husband and brother on a Friday night without a reservation. We were luckily able to be seated pretty quickly since they have a large space with additional seating downstairs. We ordered jumbo wings, two pizzas (Roni Supreme and VIP), and the double stacked burger. Needless to say, we had leftovers, but everything was delicious. I thought the wings would be too sweet, but they were nicely balanced, and I really loved the VIP pizza with the combination of vodka sauce and pesto. The Calabrian chilis also add a really nice touch. The service was great, and we were in and out of there in an hour and a half, including wait time. read more

I've slowly been working my way through all the "best' burgers in NYC and when I had 30 minutes to kill and found myself walking past Emily, I plopped myself down at the bar and ordered the burger. This thing is no joke. The pasture raised dry aged beef is as good as it sounds and is served on a pretzel bun with caramelized onion, cheddar and a secret sauce. Hit up Emily recently and I got the Emmy Burger and their famous MVP pizza. The burger lives up to the hype: juicy, well-seasoned beef, nicely melted cheese, caramelized onions, and that pretzel-bun + special sauce combo that makes it feel indulgent in all the right ways. The MVP Pie was also excellent. It's simple but so well executed: great crust, mellow tomato sauce, layered cheese, and that perfect Emily-style balance of richness and char. Almost 5 starts but a few things off. The Kim Chi Bulgogi fries were full of bacon, and less bulgogi but the bulgogi had a seasoning that wasn't good, the sauce ok, missing salt and would have been great if a little kim chi was actually on top. The Emmy Double Stack Burger was really good, super greasy, and hard to eat. Had to eat with knife and fork. The waffle fries needed salt! They had a herb/garden like ranch, that they charge for $2. I was bummed I didn't get to sit on the floor level, and went down in the basement instead. Must be because I'm a tourist instead of a local. That bummed me out! Andrew was our server. Came here for lunch after summer streets. We made a reservation and came about half an hour early, which they were nice enough to seat us. We were seated and given menus and cups. Then no one came to us for 10 minutes, not even with water. The other patrons all either ordered, or had their food already so I wasn't sure why we weren't given any attention. We tried to flag them down but they mostly congregated near the front amongst each other and were facing the other way. We finally got someone to take our order after 15 minutes. After how frequently the famous "Emmy Burger" comes up on a podcast I listen to, I knew I had to try this place when I was visiting NYC. The burger was maybe the best burger I've ever had. What that special sauce is, I have no idea but it is goooood. My husband got the Good Paulie pizza, which is a white sauce base and holy crap was it delicious too! They make Detroit style pizzas with a thicker crust, which I love. Our cocktails were so yummy too. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. I loved the atmosphere in the restaurant too - they were playing great music and sitting upstairs allowed me to look outside all the windows and watch everyone walk by. The upstairs seating is a bit crowded with tables for 1-4 people. It was a little awkward being seated so close to other people, but I understand they are maximizing the smaller space. They had outdoor tables as well, but we were visiting in February, so no one was seated outside. Downstairs had little rooms for larger groups and was so cool - like a fancy cellar with exposed brick. And you can see the open kitchen where they are hard at work preparing the food. Called to see if they did walk ins since online they were all full. We showed up in 10 and got seated with the understanding that another party will need the table in 80 min. Having read reviews about the burger we winded up ordering the Seoul Sister and the Emmy. We also tried the cauliflower along with some beers. Note that during ordering we were not asked how we wanted the Emmy cooked, whereas another party that came along later the server did ask. A sign of spotty service. The cauliflower came first and was tender, tasty and had a kick. The Seoul Sister came first, followed by the Emmy in about 5 minutes. Upon first bite of both burgers one could feel how dense the bite was. The meat was salty and chewy. Kenji Lopez Alt would have had a fit since the burgers were probably over handled in adding the seasoning and forming the patty. So while the menu description read fantastic (as well as some reviews online) the actual eating experience was a bit disappointing since it didn't live up to the rave reviews. The interior decor was nice and seating tight and a loud nyc ambiance, with outdoor seating even on a rainy day. Additional seating and bathrooms are downstairs. We didn't try the pizza but as for the burgers take the hype with a grain of salt. Wanted to rate this place higher, Ordered the pretzel bun burger. The meat and the cheese was actually very tasty. Unfortunately they totally burnt the bun. I was so hungry at that point so I ate most of it anyway. Really a shame cause most of the burger was very good but I kept tasting that burnt pretzel bun which ruined it. We also split the Enzo pizza. This was absolutely delicious. Loved it with the honey and pepperoni. Our waiter was nice, but he was a little slow and nonexistent when we needed to check. Went there with a large group for dinner. We were seated in a private area and had terrific service. We ordered a number of appetizers and then pizzas. Cauliflower was terrific. Well cooked but still firm with a sharp chili, cooled by raisins...banana chilis gave it crunch and heat. Nice dish. Brussels sprouts salad was also shared. Whatever issue the kitchen was dealing with is not the customers problem nor an excuse, get it together. People want to dine together and not be sitting waiting for entrees to come out separately. I have been on a quest to find the best burger in New York and Emily has officially thrown its hat into the ring. With that known, I ordered their signature Emmy Burger with waffle fries. I received the burger fairly quickly and I was ready to dig in. I took my first bite and it was so delicious that I almost fell out of my chair. To expand, the burger was medium rare and cooked to perfection. In addition, it was two big juicy patties loaded with cheese and sweet, caramelized onions. Furthermore, the bun was fluffy and tasted fresh. Finally, the burger was topped with their signature sauce that was slightly spicy with a hint of sweetness. It was simply one of the best burgers I've ever had. Likewise, the waffle fries were tasty as well. The fries were crispy, hot, and seasoned. It was nice to have some good fries for once. Also, I would like to mention that the mozzarella sticks were very good as well. To explain, the sticks had an excellent breading and the cheese had a great pull to them. One thing I was not a fan of was how squished the tables are together so you can hear everything the person next to you is saying. This was not factored in my review because I understand NYC is a tight space. We got the Emmy Double Stacked burger with waffle fries and they gave such a large portion. The burger was juicy and tasted quite unique (gochujang mayo is not a typical burger ingredient) but it made it taste really good. Quick disclaimer before I begin: I'm usually very straight-to-the-point with my reviews. Good or bad, that's it. I don't ramble or write essays. But this is the first restaurant in years that I got home from and immediately wanted to talk about, so here we are. Let's talk about Emily. The ambiance is immediately evident. Upstairs is social, buzzing, etc. Downstairs is intimate, quiet, almost hidden. They even have a room downstairs that you can decorate as you'd like, bring your own dessert in, etc. And the prices are actually reasonable in the West Village. So, we asked about it for an upcoming birthday. And if you end up loving this place as much as we did, ask them about it. Now, onto the service. Our server, Mel, was the epitome of this entire experience. Vibrant, attentive, caring. Not in an overbearing way, just in a genuine way. She went above and beyond, quadruple-checked everything with us to make sure our friend with a severe nut allergy was okay, which is even more important here since pesto is involved... and I love pesto. The biggest thing, though, was that it felt like eating at someone's home. Fast, always around before you knew you needed something. We never had to ask for anything. Mel alone was enough for me to return. Drinks - this is the only negative I have. Flavors? Incredible. Great cocktails. But they were a little light on the alcohol for the price. The prices are in line with what you would expect to pay in the West Village, but I have high standards when it comes to cocktails, judging them on the alcohol-to-price ratio. Now, the food. We stuck mostly to the pizza-based dishes, including the cheesy garlic sticks, which are made fresh from the pizza dough. I've had my fair share of garlic cheesy sticks in my time, and I was pretty sure they could not be improved. I was wrong. I was wrong. The garlic cheesy sticks were the best I've had in years. Easily. We also tried The Luca -- added pepperoni for a little extra flair, but at its core it's traditional, classic, and just straight-up fire. If you're someone who likes to play it safe and still wants something executed perfectly, this is absolutely your pizza. The main event for me, though, was the VIP -- which is actually what I ordered. It's essentially the spicy version of the MVP. And listen, I have a spice tolerance like a mf, and this pizza actually delivered the kick I've always wanted from a pizza place. Not some gimmicky hot honey situation -- real heat, real flavor. Marinara. Vodka sauce. Pesto. All of these were already present and accounted for. But I had the brilliant idea of taking the pizza and dipping it in whatever sauce I was in the mood for. I opted for the pesto, and it was just incredible. All of the sauces are house-made and are absolutely delicious. Now, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, "New York does not love the Detroit-style pizza." And you're right. You're thinking, "I don't care how good the pizza is, I don't care what the guy says, I don't like the style." And you're right. You're thinking, "I'm a thin crust guy, and I don't care how good the pizza is, I don't care what the guy says, I don't like the style." And you're right. I'm not any of those guys. I'm a pizza connoisseur. I was just in Italy, and I'll tell you something. Nothing was even close. I did not even try everything. They have an award-winning burger that everyone around me was ordering, and the wings looked insane. I reserved my group of 8 at Emily's for a birthday party, but we ended up lowering it to 6 the day of. Since the restaurant was fully booked, we stayed in the private room which ended up working in our favor, it was beautiful! It was a great space to use and felt like we had our own room. The ambiance was lovely. Since we did a family style pre fixe, the food started coming out asap. The menu they set up for us was a nice touch! We got to add a custom image and title at the top too, so it felt a little more special. We got the mozz sticks, salad, wings, burger, and different pizzas. It was DELICIOUS. The portions were great, and we ended up having lots of leftovers. The pizzas were both doughy and had a crispy crust. They were all so flavorful, if only we were hungrier to eat them all!
