Legit one of the best pizza places I've come across. Would recommend to everybody. Top tier!

What a really casual family friendly resturant on the upper east side. We meet some folks here while in NYC this week. Detroit style pizza is oe of those pizzas you love or say what's wrong with it Tholis place makes it to perfection. Small square pizza or large Square pies we went with the Angel and the Margarita with a side watermelon salad. Service was ok. suggestions is that most tables had small children, the wait staff be a little more attentive to signs of wanting to leave. Not the case at my table but thought they should notice this as such a full place with so many small kids. read more

I ordered a Hawaiian pizza, boneless wings and mozzarella sticks from here this evening only to find all of the mozzarella sticks completely empty (no cheese). I called the restaurant who informed me that these come from a third party provider and apologized for the inconvenience... At Emmy's an order of mozzarella sticks costs $18 for 6 sticks. The largest 3rd party food provider I am aware of is Sysco and after a quick Google search I learned their bulk mozzarella sticks cost $0.70 per stick. So Emmy's is not just outsourcing the food prep they are effectively charging customers 4 - 5x mark up for low quality items. You would think an Italian restaurant that describes themselves as "founded on an unconditional love of well-made food" would bother to make the food themselves instead of buying pre-made from what is basically a grocery store for restaurants but I guess that speaks to how little they care about the actual cooking aspect of running a restaurant. After the whole mozzarella stick debacle we realized the boneless wings were also low quality Sysco fare so we won't be ordering from here again. It's a bummer because I've gone to Emmy Squared for several years now and always enjoyed it as a Detroit style pizza option. That said I had noticed a significant decline in quality the last few times eating there (although the pizza itself seems like it was made buy actual cooks not purchased pre-made from a grocer like all the sides). I've had Emmy saved for a while and I'm so happy I finally tried it. Service was great start to finish, our waitress Emili was so attentive without being intrusive - a perfect balance of service that is really hard to do. Arrived at 5:30 no resy and was seated right away. We ordered the cheesy garlic sticks and chicken crunchers to start. The cheesy garlic sticks are a bit pesto heavy but I enjoyed it. The chicken crunchers were delish! Tasted super fresh not like some pre frozen chicken they just deep fried. Main course we got burgers and they were awesome! One small critique I wish the pretzel bun had salt on top similar to a salty concession stand pretzel. Dessert was the brownie and that was amazing, tasted fresh baked and I love how the ice cream stayed frozen and didn't immediately melt all over it. read more

I love this place and this pizza. I really like this location, it is spacious inside, it has never been packed when I've gone, and I like the furniture - the middle tables have wooden benches done tastefully. My boyfriend and I went a Sunday night, so it was pretty empty. Our waiter was hilarious and had great taste (he appreciated my Costco sweatshirt lol). We got the zia fries and the MVP. The fries are always a hit - super crispy and the toppings are placed perfectly that almost every fry at last has some cheese sauce. They also give you a massive portion of these french fries - we always end up taking them home. Now the pizza was cripsy on the edges, soft on the inside, and the toppings were great - I really like the combo of pesto with marinara sauce and vodka sauce - we had peperroni on it as well which gave a nice crunch on the top. I think Emmy Squared made its way to my top pizza places in NYC! I've heard about them for a while and especially how they opened up a location in the UES. Finally got to check our their pizza and was surprised at how tasty it was! My favorite was the Angel! The caramelized onions offered a slight sweetness that balanced out the savoriness from the mushrooms and the pesto. The ratio of ingredients were appropriate, with more mushroom than expected! Their dough reminded me of focaccia bread, except it was airy as it was chewy. The crust was also pretty crunchy. The dough was still pretty good after my slice was sitting out for a while. Their regular pepperoni was good with the dough, but the red sauce was lacking a little flavor. Also big shout out of the delicious garlic bread!! It was covered with their tasty pesto sauce with lots of garlic flavors. It was chewy with a great cheese pull! Walked in and was greeted nicely- waiter gave enough time to look over menu. Water was refilled without me asking. Servers were very attentive. Food was delicious- pizza was better than expected (worth the hype). Portion was enough to share with two people (each slice was thick). Chicken Sandwich was massive and very flavorful. Loud and overpriced. I've been wanting to try Emmy Squared for a while. Made a reservation like 2 weeks in advance for a Friday night since it seems to always be packed. The inside of the restaurant is smaller than I thought with a couple seats at the bar as well. Tables were tight together and there was a large birthday party that took up a long center table. We ordered the Good Pauli pizza $23 and the mozzarella sticks $16. The pizza was packed with toppings but small. Six pieces total but probably not bigger than 8x11 piece of paper. The mozzarella sticks were good; came with 5 sticks. I wine pour I received was on the smaller side for a $15 glass of wine. I was going to give 4 stars but we were rushed out of the restaurant right after we finished eating since they had other reservations. While the waitress politely asked us to leave, we didn't even get a chance to have dessert! I stood up to put on my coat, placing my purse on the table so I could zip my coat. The bus staff immediately surrounded us to clear the table as I'm zipping my coat. The bus boy (wearing a sweatshirt and dirty gloves) picked up my purse and handed it to me. 1. The bus staff should be educated not to touch customers personal belongings and 2. It would have been more professional/appreciated if they gave us another 10 seconds to leave the table before they tried to turn it over for the next party. This is a really good pizza place for gluten free pizza. they use gluten free flour (never frozen) the choices for pizza are endless and delicious. I wouldn't recommend the caesar salad as it's just 3 pieces of iceberg lettuce. it usually takes a bit for take out but you can be seated very quickly inside. they also have great drinks! read more

I came here Monday night and it was an unexpected dinner. I have eaten at Emmy Squared before but the one in West Village. It was my first time at this location and it was quite delicious. I had a wonderful experience; I would say that the food could have been hotter. The fries which came with the burger were lukewarm; fries should have been hot. I ordered a drink which was good. The service was ok; it was a very calm quiet atmosphere. We ordered the mozzarella sticks; the cheeseburger and a pizza. The pizza was also lukewarm but it was very flavorful. The mozzarella sticks were delicious. The burger was flavorful and juicy. I would say this is a great place to have a good meal. I definitely recommend it. read more

I'm so glad I finally got to try the food from here, and they did not disappoint! I visited their Upper East Side location where I loved the chill vibes and the staff was super friendly and very accommodating. I got to try a variety of their classic dishes and seasonal menu items like their Salmon Caviar Pizza! This tasty pie is topped with Smoked Sockeye Salmon, Ricotta Cheese, Hackleback Caviar, Creme Fraiche, and Fresh Dill. It was giving the ultimate brunch pizza, but still perfect for any time of the day. I also thoroughly enjoyed their other pizza, the MVP and their famous Le Matt Burger which was so good and cooked to perfection. It was nice, cheesy, and juicy. I can see why it was labeled as one of NYC's best burgers. I'll definitely be back here. read more

Made reservations for a Sunday night and was seated right away. There were a lot of families there so this is a family friendly restaurant. We ordered the Brussels Sprout salad, Big Ang Pizza, and Seoul Mate pizza. The salad was delicious with the miso dressing. I would recommend this salad as an entree or to share with the table. I asked to have the Seoul Mate pizza made without cheese and to add red sauce. The waitress was so nice and accommodating. When the food began to come out she told us the kitchen made it with cheese and she had them remake it. I was very happy with the fact she took the time to look and remember the special request and took care of the pizza in advance so I didn't have to send it back. The service was excellent. First timers here and we had a great experience, Kairsten greeted us warmly (despite the barrage of delivery pickups), she sat us outside and offered great suggestions for us to enjoy and even came by the table later just to check in, which was truly amazing service and a pleasure. It helped that it was a beautiful night, and our waitress Nicole was excellent and very attentive! Pizza was delicious and the Le Big Matt burger with juices drizzled down the bun was superb. Been meaning to try this place. Walked by many times with curious stares at the rectangular thick crust pizzas during the summer when tables were set up on the sidewalks. Last minute reservation and luckily snatched the last slot. Ambience was great. Vibrant and open. Ordered many items to share Brussel sprouts salad $16 - beautiful display. Nice, not fantastic, refreshing starter. Grilled cauliflower - $16 - got some kick to it but flavorful Gluten free baked ziti for $17 - it's the only pasta option and it was gluten free but I couldn't sneak it past the little guy. It was mostly untouched. Meatball - dry. Not a popular item. Chicken parm sandwich - came out when all the food was pretty much finished. Think they forgot the order until I asked them to check and it came out 10 minutes after that. The taste verdict -- good. Pretzel bread was nice. Pizza #1 - the colony - pepperoni cups with jalapeños and honey. Presentation was nice. The pepperonis were crispy and delicious. Flavor was excellent. I enjoyed the thicker crust inspite of my preference for NY styled thin crust pizza. This is Detroit themed crust apparently. Pizza #2 - margherita - blocks of mozzarella cheese on top was not popular for us. We prefer it to be melted onto the slice. Service - unfortunately, was not good at all. I have a high tolerance for poor service but this is especially poor. Other than the hostess, the wait staff was not friendly nor eager to serve. Not one smile seen. She often ignored us after knowingly seeing us. We even spotted her talking loudly about the tip the table next to me with another colleague. I am a New Yorker through and through but this Detroit style is spot on. Thick square pies but very light and fluffy. Quality ingredients and toppings. I've been to their Hell's Kitchen location before, but this was my first time at their Upper East Side location. While nothing can beat the food at their sister restaurant, Emily, the pizza here is really good! Both the crust and the toppings have so much flavor! I ordered the Colony pizza (red sauce, ezzo pepperoni, pickled jalapeños, and honey). My only complaints about my experience were 1) the A/C was off and the windows were open even though it was 90 degrees outside and 2) they seemed a little understaffed and I spent a lot of time waiting especially at the end for the check. I came to Emmy Squared Pizza from a recommendation from The Hotel Manager Chris at the Kimpton Hotel Theata. Wasn't expecting anything out of the ordinary, but damn was I wrong. The Pizza is FANTASTIC and the Watermelon Salad was amazing. The service was above and beyond. Keea was our waitress and bartender and she was so attentive and she makes a killer Old Fashion and Dirty Martinis. You will not be disappointed I will definitely come back to this place. The pizza is great. That's not the problem. It took 30 minutes to order!! This is not my first time having an issue ordering from Emmy. Talk about something that should be quick and easy, Emmy makes it really difficult. I tried to do it on Seamless, but the app told me that the restaurant was no longer available. I went back and tried it again, entered the things I wanted to order, then was told that the delivery window had changed. I kept getting a pop-up for the delivery time and it wouldn't allow me to select today. So I went to their website. You can't order from their website. They have an app though! So I downloaded the app, and put my order in there. It refused to take my order the first three or four times and said that my delivery window had changed by one minute. I don't care! Just deliver the damn thing. Finally got a confirmation and receipt mailed to me, but again, that took half an hour. Absurd! You have a good product, but it isn't worth the hassle. And it's been a problem for YEARS. FIX IT read more

Emmy Squared is a legend in nyc. I am never sure whether to order the burger or pizza! Went with the pizza this time. The mvp pizza with pesto with vodka sauce was the mvp. So good. Love the crunch on the bottom and side crust. The brooklyn mozzarella sticks were homemade and you can tell. Beware... the spicy chicken is very spicy. Wasn't a huge fan. Fantastic pizza! The crust is buttery and thick but perfectly cooked. We got the one that had mushroom and ricotta and their margarita - both were great. The mushroom one was a bit too much ricotta for my taste but that was just my preference, otherwise was great, their mushroom sauce they drizzle was out of this world. The pizza was excellent! I thought the pie was small at first but then could only eat half. The crust was crispy and yummy. The inside of the crust was pillowy and not filler - y, if that makes any sense. I've had some Sicilian slices where I thought the goal was to thick. I'm not sure how to articulate this. Anyway, just try it. You won't be disappointed. It's a proper pizza! Now for the burger, it was not as delicious and I think it's because it was overcooked. I don't care what anyone says, I will fight to the death that this is my favorite pizza place in NYC. Like, OBSESSED. First off, make reservations, as the wait can get pretty long. Interior is super cute, with bar space and a communal table, and plenty of outdoor tables. That's going to be an issue in a bit when the weather gets cold. Their drinks are excellent, and last time I was there did a bottle of wine. Prices are good. Tried a few apps, their cheesy garlic bread and cauliflower being some of my favorites, but the PIZZA. It's this deep dish pizza, with this absolutely crispy crust cooked to perfection. I've tried a few different pies at this point but my favorite now has to be the one with the jalapeños and honey. If I lived any closer to Emmy Squared, I would come here every week. For 2 people we shared: 1-Caesar salad with anchovies on the side: for something that is relatively simple, this was one of the top caesar salads I've ever had. 2-Big Hawaiian: Does this remind me of Hawaii? Not at all. Was this delicious? Absolutely. The bottom and side crusts were perfectly crispy, the dough itself pillowy and soft. The combination of pepperoni, bacon, pineapple and chili glaze was perfect in hitting all the notes of salty-sweet-spicy. Service was friendly and the ambiance is very chill. Not sure how busy it gets for dinner, but for a Sunday lunch there was ample seating. read more
