We live a few blocks away from this location and walk over once or twice a month to pick up empanadas. We've generally loved the food and service, but I'm worried that something has changed as we've been disappointed the last two times. 10 days ago we went with company in town, and my niece and I each got the caprese empanadas. Everyone else's order was fine but my caprese had green olives in it, which is not ever an ingredient in caprese anything and isn't listed under caprese in the empanola menu either. My niece's didn't have the olives, so I chalked this up to a random mistake and let it go. I did drop a quick note to the company on their "contact us" button just as an fyi for quality control, just in case it was a more regular mistake they should address, but I also said it wasn't a big deal, I just wanted to make them aware. Tonight we ordered 8 empanadas but only had 6 in the box when we got home. My husband drove back over quickly as they were about to close. I texted him while he was there replacing the other two missing empanadas, to let him know there were green olives yet again in the two caprese empanadas. The staff were very friendly and helpful and assured him that green olives are not in their recipe and asked for pictures, which I sent. They replaced my two caprese with the only one they had left, and threw in the next closest thing, which was spinach and artichoke, though I don't love that one personally. Anyway, the replacement caprese also has green olives in it now too, so I'm going to go make myself something else for dinner and now don't feel like ordering my caprese favorites anymore from there, as this is apparently an ongoing and regular mistake. I'm really bummed about this as the workers are very friendly and we've had lots of great experiences with this place that's so convenient and easy for us to walk to also. We love supporting all the great neighborhood businesses around here, of which Empanola has been high on our list for quite a while. I hope they get this sorted out, and I hope that there's a way I can know when the issue is fixed as I've now paid for three (and got two more free, for a total of 5) empanadas that were not actual caprese and I didn't like. It's most disappointing to my tastebuds, but it's now a risk I don't want to keep taking with my money either, as I'm paying for this continued disappointment. My husband will still continue to order with the kids when I'm not home, but we won't order as a family anymore for a while. I can't wait til this is hopefully cleared up again though so we can go back to loving this place! read more

I really really love this place. This particular location is my favorite as it is the only one that sells booze. They have a frozen pisco sour that's particularly yummy and refreshing on a hot New Orleans day. I also love their little combo deal where you get a soup and two empanadas. It's the perfect size meal! My favorite of their empanadas: Buffalo chicken, spinach artichoke, and the Chilean beef. AND THEY HAVE KING CAKE! Great quick bite! Lots of different flavors. My favorite Peruvian chicken - filled with shredded chicken and a little kick! They have a deal - pack of 6 empanadas 27$ or 12 51$. Also tried chorizo mexicana, shrimp and cheese and Chilean beef - all tasty and so easy to eat while you walk around NOLA. Best stop for a snack while you're shopping on Magazine St. or a full meal. It's right next to the Garden District if you work up an appetite walking around oogling at houses like we did! The empanadas came out steaming hot so bring your patience or burn your tongue your choice! The yellow curry was soooo freaking good. I already want to go back for another. It the perfect level of seasoning and fresh veggies. The crust was perfectly crispy and solid to hold everything in. The cilantro lime sauce was the chefs kiss to balance all the flavors. Don't skip out on the sauce!! They have a several combos with salad or soup if you want to mix it up or go a little lighter. Stopped by for a snack while shopping on Magazine Street and it was the perfect bite(s). Tried the crawfish etouffee empanada and really enjoyed this fusion take on a New Orleans-inspired empanada. Would definitely recommend. The real reason I stopped by though was to try their guava king cake and OMG it's the best thing ever! I bought a slice and then immediately decided that come hell or high water I had to buy an entire guava king cake to bring home with me in my backpack. I repeat, I only traveled with a backpack. The staff was extremely supportive and really helped me believe in myself :) Don't ask me how, but a miracle happened and I managed to finagle all my belongs in such a way that I was able to pack the full sized king cake in its box into my backpack with minimal smushing. It was perhaps the best money I spent the entire weekend and 100% worth buying the whole thing and finding a way to bring it home with me. So the moral of the story is... go get their king cake! I absolutely loved this little place! I am a fan of empanadas! And we had been recommended to this place. The lady who was working there was super patient with me and my coworkers as we had many questions about flavors. I ended up getting the gumbo one and the shrimp and cheese. Which she reminded me it was more cheese than shrimp ( she was correct). They were both very fresh and you can tell made with fresh ingredients. The location is in a nice area with other shopping around , and the offer outside seating which I enjoyed. The price as also good for the portion sizes. Customer service was great. It got really busy because there was only one worker with about 6 mins wait time on each order of empanadas put in the oven. The young man handled it with grace in conjunction with call in orders that were coming in and delivering the orders to the table. He was patient and kind. The empanadas were amazing. We popped in for a quick snack. My son got a chorizo empanada and I got a yellow curry one. The yellow curry empanada with chimichurri sauce was so delicious!! This was the day before thanksgiving and the person (not the owner I assume) running the shop seemed a little irritated and ready to close the shop at 4pm and head home. So he was almost rushing folks out. The shop is a small hole-in-the-wall type of place with few high chairs to have a quick bite, which seems like the right ambience for a place like this. Very tasty empanadas that are cutely labeled as to their filling. The descriptions of the empanadas are on the paper menu. The staff helping us warmed them up thoroughly. We got the crawfish etouffe, beef Argentina, and mushroom&cheese, and a chimichurri sauce. The sauce was a very small amount so I wish they were bigger since you pay extra for them.
