Considering that the name of this restaurant is Enchilada's and I got the Original Enchilada Plate "where it all began" (cheese enchiladas with chili con carne sauce), I was really disappointed. We've lived down the street from this place for 9 years...why was today our first time here?! I recently read about their Sunday brunch and I was sold. We arrived about 10:30am and it was perfect timing, not super busy (more people arrived around 11:30ish. For less than twenty bucks you get unlimited mimosas and bellinis or coffee, a build-your-own omelette station with a chef, TONS of entree choices, chips and salsa, and a variety of desserts. Everything was piping hot and very good. On par with the usual TexMex for the area. Service was outstanding! Really great value, good food, and fantastic service...what more could you want? As a downtown resident this place is one of the most convenient places to go have a bite to eat during the day. I always seem to want to go eat here but I always find them closed when I want to eat in the evening so I take advantage when I do go. The food has several options available. I usually eat the beef enchiladas which are filling and match perfectly with a frozen margarita. Oh by the way the margaritas are always on special so go check these yummy treats out! You get your drinks and chips and salsa quick. Go in on a Sunday and get the brunch. It is 18.99 but they have a great assortment of fresh foods to eat. Lots of options. They will even make you omeletes, waffles and pancakes, along with cooked eggs. They will bring it to the table for you. My husband Greg and I have just recently started going to this establishment. The service is good, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is comfortable. This was not what I was expecting. We ordered three types of chicken enchiladas, verdes, rancheras, and queso / cream. The enchiladas were very dry. They tasted like a banquet TV dinner. The rice and beans weren't anything better. The tortillas for the fajita tacos were poor quality store bought flour. The queso was obviously processed cheese and parts tasted like they weren't mixed well enough. The flavor was pretty good, but I could have done much better opening a can of Rico's cheese. The staff here is great, the bartender is hilarious, the food was well seasoned, and portions were Texas sized! I've had the fajita salad and the verde enchiladas - super tasty. Drinks are actually really decent. They have a drink special every weekday, M-Th which is what attracted me here. The drinks don't really seem strong while you're drinking them, but they CERTAINLY hit ! I went here on a Tuesday I believe and had a couple of margaritas, maybe 3, and when I left I was definitely kind of sort of drunk, lol. Thankfully I wasn't driving. However, the FOOD? The food isn't really that good. I've gone here a couple of times and each time I've tried something different. If have a chimichanga, tacos and some other stuff but nothing is really delicious. This was a great spot for lunch- the wait staff and host fella were all super nice, the lunch specials were inexpensive and the atmosphere was that perfect tex-mex shabby. I had #5, one chicken enchilada with sour cream sauce and one flauta with rice. All were yummy and perfectly tex-mexy. Unfortunately it was lunch and not dinner because I've decided i'm back on tequila and wanted a margarita something fierce. They are soon moving my offices over close to Enchilada's so I can see many a happy hour happening here! I am rating this only for the Margarita. We just stopped by for a drink and did not dine here. My top shelf was quite good, guess I had a better experience than the 1st reviewer of this place. Drink was made with Jose Cuervo and Grand Marnier, as advertised on a big sign right inside the door. Mix was not too tart, just right. And, even better, quite large for only $6.49 !!! Don't recall I've ever had a top shelf for that price. We took a quick walk around the brunch buffet which was quite extensive and it "looked pretty good"; $14.95 including Mimosas, champagne and coffee; your usual brunch items of made to order omlets, pancakes or waffles, bacon, sausage, gravy, tex mex entrees of enchiladas (several varieties i.e. cheese, beef, chicken, sour cream), queso, tacos, tamales, chili rellenos, etc etc etc. It was certainly appealing to the eye, but can't attest to taste as we decided to move on down Greenville to see what else would catch our attention. Decor, 1.5 - 2 stars. A big warehouse type feel, concrete floors, lots of bright color splashed on the walls. Service was friendly and prompt for our one drink. Chips and salsa, meh, nothing special. May or may not go back, but in fairness, this was not a full experience. read more

1.50 stars. My excitement concerning a healthy serving of Tex-Mex was effectively thwarted by rough service, a dingy atmosphere, and the amateur preparation of Tacos al Carbon at Enchiladas. The service was poor. Not only were we rushed by our server, but she didn't have an enormous amount of tables. I understand lunch in busy downtown Dallas is geared toward efficiency, but the placement of a check without a thank you or smile is rather unacceptable. The utter lack of concern dedicated towards our drinks, chips, and salsa only buttressed the fact that zero attention is placed on developing competent staff at this restaurant. Another component of the experience that is lacking is the atmosphere. The place is a dark, dirty hall with unkempt tables and garish color combinations. I immediately regretted not taking an earlier suggestion to dine at Jason's freakin' Deli upon entering this cavernous dungeon. Finally, the Tacos al Carbon were amongst the worst I have ever eaten (and I currently live in Washington DC). The steak was very clearly low quality meat, and the seasoning was flavorless. The beans were disgusting. Surprisingly, the salsa had a nice kick. Having said that, I've eaten at a number of fine Tex-Mex places across Dallas; this place easily ranks at the bottom of the proverbial totem pole. It's the week of Christmas, my office is a cave of sluggish, nonwork behavior. What better way to help the cause than to go out to lunch with a few coworkers. Mexican sounded like it would hit the spot, I had seen this place driving before, and the reviews made it sound like a moderate place. Off we go! Chips, thick and fried in house, were brought out quickly, with personal bowls of salsa. The red salsa had an oily film lurking on the top, but whatever, it's chips and salsa, people! I tend to like chunkier salsa, but it was acceptable. Not a lot of spicy heat, but a tiny baby after kick of spice. I ordered the brisket taco lunch special, with corn tortillas. This came with rice and beans, 3 tacos topped with lettuce, tomato and some cheese. My beans and formed a crusty looking top, which I assumed meant it was given a heat lamp treatment. No matter. Still ate em. Rice was rice but, have definitely had better. Tacos were not completely greasy. Success! Very little grease drippings spilling out and onto the plate. Out of the 2.5 tacos consumed, I encountered only 2 minor fat blobs, so pretty good. Moist and tender, not at all bad. A lot more meat than I expected as well. (TWSS, right? right?) Anyways, large portion for 8 bucks. We discovered they have 2.50 margaritas for HH, so will be by to try that out. Good enough, and close enough to add into the lunch rotation. read more

I can only really review two things here, margaritas and the fajitalada dinner ($11). Both are excellent. The fajitalada dinner was big enough for 2 meals for me. It consists of 3 enchiladas topped with fajita chicken and it's served with rice and beans. Unique and delicious! Enchilada's atmosphere is pretty typical for a neighborhood Tex-Mex place and the service has always been adequate but nothing noteworthy. They do have live music sometimes--see their website for the schedule. Happy Hour goes till 7pm, which is cool, but the specials aren't spectacular--$4.99 for a house margarita (it is pretty big though, now that I think of it). FYI-this place sends out coupons in the Val-Pak every once in a while so you can buy one entree and get one half off. That's really what got me in the door the first time, but I enjoyed my dinner so I've been a return customer. This is really 3.5, but I won't round up, as I'm not willing to rate it as high as Desperados. read more

I think the judge of a good Tex-Mex restaurant is the quality of the cheese enchilada, beef enchilada, and crispy taco. So that's what I ordered. But first, the chips and salsa...I usually scarf down an entire basket within seconds of being seated but I had no such problem here. They were average. Okay, so back to the main meal. The crispy taco was very good. It had an ample amount of ground beef, shredded cheese, lettuce, and toms. Nothing out of the ordinary but still good. The enchiladas were average though. The chili sauce had a slightly funny taste. Maybe too much flour or whatever they use to thicken up the sauce. They didn't hold back on the cheese, which is always a plus, but the taste left more to be desired. The beans were average. I had to knock them down another star because the location is less than stellar. Kind of on the rundown looking part of Greenville Ave. The decor is typical Texican, again nothing special. Oh and for some reason I always order a coke with lime at Tex-Mex restaurants. The waiters usually bring me a bowl of limes but they just brought me a single slice. Okay, a lot of you have been talking about the mimosas over at ole Enchilada's, but can I ask you this: WHAT ABOUT THE MARGARITAS?! WARNING: If you weigh less than 250 pounds, do not attempt to have more than one of these (okay, MAYBE one and a half). For such a sketchy-looking joint, Enchilada's really delivers. I sat at the bar last time I went, and even the bartender was an awesome waiter and incredibly attentive. I got some sort of beef taco, which was delicious, and one of their intense margs. It didn't help that the salsa was so good and so spicy that I had to keep drinking my marg as fast as possible to get rid of the burning in my mouth. Aye ya ya. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! This is what I got on my first trip to Enchilaldas on a Saturday night. I did not expect tasty food for the price with a great band playing. I asked the people at Half Price books to recommend a good local joint for food nearby, and this is where they sent me. It was hopping...mainly because there was a great band playing. The music was in a seperate room from the main dining area, but I could still hear and enjoy, but a margarita with the band playing is a must. The menu was your traditional Mexican fare, but the price was very reasonable. We didnt' expect much from the food, but my girlfriend loved her sour cream enchiledas so much that she didn't want to share! I had the tamale plate, and it was quite tasty. A group of friends went there some time ago on a Sunday, for brunch (yeah...totally forgot to review it..). They have all the main staples of Tex-Mex and some American dishes, a large buffet. Everything was good, nothing standing out but decent food. They have a guy making omelets to order, nice touch! It was sometime ago, but I am almost sure they have pancakes and waffles made to order too. The food is fresh, lots of fruits, desserts, mimosas and Bellinis included in the price, if you chose the option. And let me tell you: the drinks are strong, the real deal. After 2 mimosas I was saying hi to everybody! The best part was the service. The owner, Tony, was super nice, he came to our table and gave us his business card and also a discount card that I managed to lose (not mimosas' fault). Our server was very kind and attentive and when the owner left he said "he is a very nice person, I've been working here for a long time and he is awesome, I love working here" How about that? Try the chicken Fajitalada plate, two cheese enchiladas topped with sour cream, fresh pico, and diced grilled chicken. Served with beans and rice, it is my favorite! The margarita's are strong, like someone else recommended you only really need one, but two sounds so appealing! The wait staff is attentive, the food is served pretty quickly, and hot. I have never once had to wonder where my order was here. Husband really likes the brunch, they serve fresh waffles, omelet station, bacon, enchiladas, beans, rice, veggies, brisket, several other types of meats and mexican dishes, ending with sopapilla & flan. Good hangover helper! Unless you want to keep the party going with the mimosas. The interior is nothing special, but the booths are cozy and you can't see over them seated so you can snuggle up in one for a casual date night or take a group to the patio for a large event. The bar is small so we always head to a table instead. They give out coupons during the Greenville Ave St. Patrick's day parade each year and we use them all year long. The 2nd time I ate here, the waiter screwed up the order because the music was so loud. He couldn't here me say "beans only" so he brought me "beef only" (chalupas). Arg! Today, 3rd and last time. Lunch time which is usually time for conversation. The music was again so loud that my companion had to put ear plugs in his ears. Also, I asked for a small amount of salsa to go. The cheap bastards charged me $1.20 for a dinky container of table salsa. Wow! BTW, the salsa here is very good, and now that I have $1.20 worth, I'll see if I can clone it. read more
