UPDATE: I am revising this review, the old explanation is below the line. I deleted the portion that is no longer relevant, but will leave the rest as-is for the sake of context. I did receive a call back from Ryan, who was nice enough to explain what had happened. Guy called me a little while later and tried to address the issue. After looking at the pictures the team had taken while doing the job, I discovered that it wasn't possible for them to build soffit dams because the soffits are completely blocked off by wooden boards. My house has some issues that aren't the fault of Energy Attic. With that out of the equation, Energy Attic otherwise did a good job, and I really appreciated their attempt at correcting the issue. I would recommend them for your work. --------------- I hired Energy Attic a month or so ago to blow insulation into my attic after a contractor working for the person who owned it prior to me did a terrible job of blowing in cellulose. Energy Attic was quick to come in and give me a quote, which I honestly felt was a bit high, but I could live with the price if they did a good job with it. Judging from their reviews, I thought they would. Part of the job was to sanitize, spray-foam seal, and then blow. They came in the morning, and I left them to do the job as I had to go to work. I returned home to a house with no sign of any work--a rather good thing. Everything seemed great, and I paid them and told them I thought they did a good job. So, why the 2? Well, after a month of believing they did a good job, I had another company come in to do an audit, because I was considering having my walls insulated, too. His heat-camera showed red-hot patches all along the perimeter of my home, where the ceiling reaches the wall. The reason that heat was still coming through the attic is because Energy Attic's workers didn't bother building some kind of dam to allow them to blow up to the edge of the attic while still allowing the soffits to ventilate the attic. I also have a furnace in the middle of my home that opens up to the attic, but we had already discussed that they wouldn't blow near the edge of it. Yes, they could have built a barrier there too, but I gave them a pass at the time (mostly out of ignorance; I'm not a professional attic insulator), so I don't fault them there. Since they didn't build dams for the soffits, there is a chance that air coming through into the attic will blow that fiberglass around, not to mention the heat that is still coming through my ceiling. This is an unsolicited review. Yesterday, I had a double sided, perforated, high quality radiant barrier foil installed in my attic, along with additional Johns Manville fiber glass Formaldehyde-free insulation, which brought my insulation up to the recommended D.O.E. R-49 rating. I also had two high quality solar variable speed vents installed on the main roof along with one turbine vent installed on my 1st floor Master BR roof, along with an attic tent. There are 3 access points to my home (main house, above garage, and above Master BR). Energy Attic created a very efficient air flow with where they installed these new vents, and for no cost, moved a couple of existing stationary vents to areas that never had venting before. The results were immediate. On just the same day, my attic temperature dropped dramatically and my house last night and today is very comfortable. I actually turned the thermostat UP this morning, because of the nice chill in my house in these July 90+ degree temps! Energy Attic provided a very affordable quote, and then got to work immediately the same week on my attic. They showed up on time, were meticulous in their work and preparation, and did a terrific job. They did a very clean job and paid attention to every detail, while answering my questions, and helping me to understand the importance of the work they were doing. In short, they were a joy to work with. In Texas, a good radiant barrier, proper insulation, and proper venting are just as important as the HVAC system. This work will pay for itself in just a few years, lowering utility bills. My advice is not to go with a cheap "barrier paint" of any kind. Paint is paint, regardless of what some companies call it and the D.O.E. doesn't even recognize paint products as a radiant barrier. A high quality radiant barrier is stapled to the underside of your roof rafters and doesn't allow 97% of the sun's radiant energy to enter into your attic. Use your logic and do your own homework like I did. I promise you that you'll be glad you did. I give Energy Attic 5 stars for superior quality of service and outstanding work. Very impressed with Ryan and his team. We recently bought a six-year-old Darling Home. Sadly, between installing the cheapest possible insulation and equipment (they don't call it builder grade for nothin'), and foreign-owned manufacturers' planned obsolescence (I grew up in the hometown of Carrier Corp., once the gold standard in American-made systems; bought out by a Japanese holding company who promptly cut thousands of jobs along with an impressive array of corners...), that's right around the age you can start scoping out landfills for your unit's final resting place. Since we had a lot of remodeling to do, we hoped we could hang on to the old battle-axe at least a couple more years if possible. We contacted Energy Attic and see if they could make modest improvements to help us in that quest. My late husband and I had an energy audit done of my former home years ago, and a small investment ended up saving substantially both in energy consumption and on monthly bills. I hoped we might enjoy similar results again. It was a pleasant surprise when I was greeted by live human upon calling for an appointment. Kristina set a date for us, and Ryan showed up precisely on time. He did a thorough evaluation of our insulation (spotty), ventilation (almost none) and duct work (let's just say, much more efficient for Darling than us). Ryan gave us a range of options, we ultimately decided to increase our insulation both an amount and quality, add solar vents and have one of his partners who is an expert in ducting make adjustments to achieve more even airflow within the confines of the current structure. He was no-pressure and very professional, returning about a week later. The team worked quickly, neatly and professionally. We did notice most of the improvements right away, but had them come back after a month to make a few additional tweaks to the ductwork. He couldn't have been more accommodating in making his return visit a priority instead of a grudge, as is common with so many service providers these days. This is the 2nd time I've hired Energy Attic to install foil barrier and additional insulation into my attic, as well as 3 additional solar fans on the roof. Everyone from Kristina in the office, to Travis in sales, to Guy and Randy checking in several times, and Paco and his excellent team of installers - were outstanding and professional in every way! This is the 2nd house in Flower Mound we've lived in, and having this work done was a priority on our checklist, given the success of lowering utility costs in my former house. Having foil barrier in the attic dramatically lowers the temperature inside, which in Texas summers can be 120 degrees or more. The foil barrier keeps out the heat. You can actually store things in the attic if you want to. Also it doesn't interfere if you have to get your roof repaired or replaced like I did in 2017 due to a major hail storm. I had the team blow in enough insulation to bring the r value up to 49 and they did a very thorough and clean job. The 3 solar fans look great and provide additional ventilation. Don't be fooled by painted barrier companies, because paint degrades. Foil barrier is permanent. Energy Attic examines your entire house and offers solid recommendations and the best possible solutions, while providing services that mean a difference in the cost of gas and electricity. We hired Energy Attic for a home in North Richland Hills, and again when we moved to North Forth Worth. We owned the NRHills Home for almost 30 years. We took the chance of having them install heavy foil Solar Barrier when it was first being offered so we enjoyed reduced energy cost for the last 12 years we owned the home. we compared bills with neighbors and during the hottest summer months we were seeing $200 to $230 electric bills for our 2,700 sq ft home, while those that lived close were seeing $400 to $500 for 2,000 sq ft. When we moved into our N ft Worth home the first thing we did was call Energy Attic. This time they installed solar barrier and more insulation in a two story 3,600 sq ft home. we also had them add a turbine and solar powered vent fan, and the attic stair tent. We were ready for $350.00 a month from what the sellers were disclosing but we never saw above $240 during the past summer. Just used Energy Attic for a full overhaul on my 40 year old house. They went above and beyond in every way. From pre and post consultation, they identified all the opportunities to help my a/c system work as efficiently as possible. Our two story home wasn't able to keep the lower floor cool prior to their help. The A/C would run all day and couldn't get below 80 degrees during the summer afternoon. We have two 5 ton units and they were inspected by a technician who reported they were in great working condition. Energy Attic installed a radiant barrier throughout the attic, blew in insulation, recommended repairs to crushed and disconnected hvac ducts (missed by our building inspector and hvac technician), and oversaw the entire process. Don't overlook them for your HVAC needs! I have had multiple different technicians look at my unit since it's been installed. It's never been quite right. In 2016, we had a new unit, air handler, and thermostat installed. This summer the house regularly hit °80 in all rooms. Chris Gage came to give estimate on radiant barrier. Before the estimate, he went the extra mile to make sure the AC was running right first. He kept me informed throughout the process, even though I didn't understand half of what the numbers meant. He used wireless sensors to simultaneously check the intake, output, high pressure, low pressure, and charge levels with his phone. Well, even though I don't understand the wizardry he implemented to get the job done, the work speaks for itself. Same °107 temperature outside, now it's averaging °73 inside!!! Chris Gage brought the tools and expertise to optimize this system where 4 technicians previously failed. I picked this company after reading some reviews. The quote was thorough and fast and really helped me understand ways to measure the efficiency, namely, get the temp in the attic down in the summer! Rick offered me several options with different price points to allow me to dial in how much I wanted to lower the temp in my attic. I chose the radiant barrier, one solar fan, and additional blown in insulation and their team installed it in August 2015. I also installed a thermometer in the attic to verify that I received the benefits I paid for. I've checked it probably 10 to 15 times in the three weeks since it was installed and it is always at or below the outside temperature. So, I can actually walk into my attic on a 100 degree day an not suffocate immediately. The install team was efficient and professional and did it all in a little over a day. I really love supporting local businesses and especially ones who deserve the praise. Energy Attic recently installed new insulation and a radiant barrier in my friend's attic. Let me just say, wow, I am impressed. I have been up in his attic before for hours in the grueling Texas summer. The temperature difference on either side of the barrier is insane. It has to be about 20 degrees which almost makes the space tolerable. The new insulation has also made my friend's electric bill drop significantly. All of this and they had the project completed in 1 day. My friend didn't even have to take off work! My friend also got some solar panels, new windows and a new AC unit but those were installed from a few other sub contractors. From materials used to the professional installation, Energy Attic is pure quality! I could not be happier with the results from getting the Radiant Barrier, Solar Fan, Thermostat and added insulation installed in early July!!! What a difference in cooling and holding/balancing that coolness. The AC system cycles like it is a spring day with mild temperatures when it is over 100 degrees outside even on the 110 degree day which was actual not heat index (obviously higher). We had Energy Attic blow in attic insulation, install a radiant barrier, and increase the number of soffit vents. They were professional in every step of the process. It was a pleasure doing business with them. I had lots of doubts about a radiant barrier. After a full year, I can say that the energy bills have been less, but the biggest difference I notice personally is that the house feels warmer in the winter, and cooler in the summer. Our upstairs never seemed to heat or cool well, no matter what the HAVC was set on. Immediately, Energy Attic finished the job, we could feel a difference. There have been one or two above average experiences, but it certainly seems like standards have gone done considerably. HOWEVER! I could not have been more impressed. From Brent coming out to do the estimate, to Stephanie following up with options, to the crew who came out for the install. They were all outstanding! The crew was very professional and efficient. When they were done, they offered for me to go up and see what they had done. I was shocked how level they were able to blow the insulation in. It was like a tabletop! They had a few dime size pieces follow them down on the garage floor where they stopped to clean that up immediately. I've hired Energy Attic for two separate jobs - the first was to install a solar vent and some soffit vents, along with adding insulation. The second was installing a radiant barrier. Followed Guy's recommendations installed two 5 stage solar exhaust fans, silver radiant barrier, 20" of insulation, and radiant board on the inside of my west garage door. You will not find a better company for this work. Energy Attic was excellent to work with and extremely responsive. I hesitated for a while to pull the trigger on attic improvements - radiant barrier and insulation - but I wish I had done it years ago! I have a two-story house and, in my case, I could not keep the upstairs cool during the brutal summers in DFW. Now my whole house is more comfortable AND my electricity bill is dramatically lower.
