Ordered delivery from Engine No. 6 tonight at 10:15PM, had it by 11PM. Boy was it good. Chicken parm grinder, tomato basil garlic pizza, buffalo spicy tenders. The chili was fresh and yummy! We got a white pizza with broccoli and a hawaiin pizza with jalapenos and both were very good. The crust was perfect ! They also serve Holsom root beer and birch beer! The service was very friendly. We would definitely go here again when we are in the area! read more

Everything I've tried from here has been delicious. You can tell the food has been prepared with care. My issue and reason for the lack of stars with engine 6 is that every time they add all these strange miscellaneous charges and a 3$ delivery charge. Then they charge prepared meals tax on that delivery fee (which is illegal). Then you have to tip the driver. I asked the driver one time if they get the delivery charge. I was told "I don't know what they do with that" It winds up getting very pricey for a sub and pizza shop. After two large subs and an appetizer plus delivery fees and tipping the driver, you'll be paying 37-40$. Depending on what strange inconsistent charges they decide to tack on. I hope they correct this problem and stop nickel and diming customers because the food is awesome. read more

This restaurant, staff, food and owner are the BEST. We came into town for the Women's NCAA basketball and I needed food for my entire team. I called the evening before and placed an order for lunch and dinner with specific times to arrival. Not only did they get EVERY ORDER EXACTLY RIGHT (which is like unheard of), the delivery was PROMPT and the food was amazing! As a coach, it can be very stressful to travel with the responsibility of many athletes. This place made it super easy and stress-free for me. I really appreciate it. I really don't know what took us so long to try Engine No. 6 Pizza Co. (other than not knowing what kind of pizza they made), but we broke down last night and tried it for the first time. We have been looking for a good pizza place for years, literally, and were thrilled to come across this restaurant. My husband and I each tried a small pizza (different toppings) in addition to an order of garlic bread with mozzarella. It was absolutely wonderful!!! I would recommend you take yourself off to this restaurant immediately. I know this is going to become a regular eating spot for us. I can't wait to go back again. Please try it for yourself. I never write reviews but after having their gluten free pizza and breadsticks this evening, I had to come here and write one. I've been gluten free for 2 years and while there are frozen pizzas and even Pizzeria Uno makes their own crust, none have tasted and had the texture of "real" pizza. I was skeptical of what the dough would taste like but it was unbelievable! It looked, smelled, tasted, and had the same texture as the "real" pizza I remember. The garlic, cheesy breadsticks were fantastic as well. Even though it's an hour drive, I'll be making it often to get this unbelievably good gluten free pizza and breadsticks. read more

One of the best pizza places around! If you go to dine in, the decor in there is great and looking at the old firefighting pictures and patches from the local departments on their wall is fun! The pizza is delicious, the grinders are some of the best, and they are able to accommodate people with all kinds of food allergies. The staff is friendly and especially helpful for those who do have food allergies so their experience can be a great one as well! read more

I had high hopes for this place seeing that the Gluten Free Connecticut page raved about it. Drove an hour and half to get there. Customers before us left upset because they waited an hour... so we were already worried about our food. Then our meals took even longer and it was not gluten free like I had asked. I have a severe gluten allergy and one the reasons it was so appealing to eat there was their gluten free dough. They almost served me a regular calzone and luckily I always ask what I'm being served before I eat it, but then it took another 20 minutes for them to remake my food. The staff was very apologetic and were able to give me some dough to bring home which was nice, but I wish the situation had not happened in the first place. Unfortunately I have to give a bad review. Luckily I had more good than bad experience here. This place surprised me how good there chicken wings were. Tonight i called in a order of 3 orders of chicken wings which consisted of 8 chicken wings each. I called in at 5:30pm and expected to pick up 15 min later for 28.50$. 15 min later I was asked if I knew what I ordered? I told them 1 order of buffalo and 2 orders plain. They apologized and said they could give me 2 Buffalo and 1 plain. I explained I can only do 1 Buffalo and 1 plain at this point as my kids hate hot sauce. If I knew they had not even started my order yet I would have just went home. I had to wait 30 min in my car after calling in 15 min prior, Just to be shorted an order. Now I had to order plain wings from king wah for my other kid and wait another 15 min. Total an hour for plain wings when I called ahead. This really turned me off. I looked at the website and wanted the sheet pizza with pepperoni. It said it would be 21.99 plus 3 something for the pepperoni so about 30 bucks. I called placed the order and asked for the total the guy was like 39 is the total I was like how? He's was like that's just what It is I said well your website says a whole different price!!! If you can't manage a website and put the right prices then don't have a website. Mike that answered the phone was grumpy and has horrible customer service and just rude You could tell he didn't want to do his job. Very disappointed .. the delivery is horrible I was told 45 mins it's been and hour and half I would be better off going and picking it up myself if they take this long they shouldn't charge 3 bucks for delivery. Visited last weekend for the first time and we will certainly return! Yes the dining room is on the small side, but it's comfortable and fun. It's within what used to be a bay of a former firehouse. The rest of the building is amazing as well. We enjoyed our food -- antipasto, calzone and pizza -- along with the service. Karen, our server, was friendly and courteous. I've eaten here a few times in the past. I've always found the food to be good (far from great though which I find odd when I see so many other glowing reviews) but acceptable. I've ordered a variety or different types of pizzas in the past and found them okay. I've always ordered medium sized pizzas and found just enough toppings (regardless of what I ordered) to be barely enough to cover each slice of pizza. I prefer a thicker crust but the one they make still holds what little toppings there are.. Then one day at the last minute I had some friends over around dinner. I live close to Engine 6 so I decided to go there to save time (and we were all starving). Since there were 5 of us we decide to order a couple large pizzas with sausage, pepperoni and peppers (a combo I had ordered in the past but always never larger than a medium sized pizza). What came to us were 2 pizzas that were much larger than the medium. The problem was that there only about half the pizza had toppings on it and the crust was paper thin. It wasn't hard to figure out that they just portion out the same amount of everything in advance from topping to crust and just make it fit the pan. So the same amount of toppings were used on the large pizza as the medium I usually got and the crust was strethed so thin it was brokem in several places and you could see the pizza pan! I brought this to the attention of the people behind the counter and the cashier admitted that was exactly what they did. Same amount of toppings and crust; just stretched out further. However, they also stretch the price out for the "larger" pizza. I asked to speak to the manager and was told I would get a free pizza to make up for it..ON MY NEXT VISIT. Useless for the group of people I was with at that moment. I paid the bill, left no tip since that is something based on the quality of the food and the service and we really got neither. End of my last trip there. Oh, and we went to Subway on the way back to my home beause their "large" pizza was so filling (yes, sarcasm), went back to my hiouse and finished out dinner. So the summary: food quality - good to okay at best as long as you don't order anything large and they just take the same amount of dough and toppings that they put on a small pizza and stretch it to fit a large pan and call it a large, price - high for what you get, customer service - friendly as long as you don't have a problem; (and that probably would have been okay if we had at least received the additional pizza at the visit when the problem was occuring since I was with the group of people and not a voucher for the next visit). By the way, I did go back and trie a variety of things (chili, some pizza combos they've made up like the buffalo chicken, loaded potato and a few other pizzas and several others...I was having another party but this time didn't order anything larger than a medium so the crust would be solid. And, ordering the variety made sure there was enough that I wouldn't have to make an emergency run to Subway again after feeding everyone. The interesting pizza combos they came up with were also okay (especially since I got the medium sized pizzas which meant that eveyone got something other than just sauce on their slie of pizza). Would I ever reommend it,..before the "large pizza" incident I probably would have given it a 50/50 as to whether I would recommend it or not but the obvious answer after this long review is a simple "no". read more

Got delivery- was relatively quick and delivery person was nice. Pizza was ok. Have had better in CT. Chicken Parm was also ok. Buffalo Chicken tenders were actually more like coated flat chicken breasts. They looked a little odd but tasted ok. A friend, my husband and I went to grab dinner here. It is kind of a dine-in restaurant, but more of a take-out place. We all ordered calzones. I got the veggie calzone and it was very good! I just wish they'd mix the ricotta cheese with the mozzarella cheese so that when you bite into it it doesn't just feel too plain. My husband got the plain cheese calzone and he didn't like the bunch of ricotta just sitting there with no mozzarella mixed in. The ricotta cheese texture is very soft and not chewy, so it feels as if you are eating a ricotta pie. The dipping tomatoe sauce was very good. We liked the bread a lot too, it had an awesome crisp taste on the rolled part. I also got an order of buffalo wings. I was told they were a bit spicy, I was expecting them to be spicier and really wish they would have smothered them with more sauce, kind of dry for my taste. Engine 6 Pizza is an establishment that makes up what it lacks in class with excellent food. If you are ordering for delivery this is the pizza place for you. I stopped in with a few friends, the interior is quaintly decorated with firefighter appear and memorabilia, but is not necessarily "clean". We all ordered different calzones, each absolutely delicious in their own way. I am especially fond of the bread and ricotta cheese they use. If you are in the area and looking for some quality food, this is the place for you. read more

Business has been going down since change of ownership. I used to love the food but the past few times my family has eaten here it's been disappointing. Calzones are good but used to be great. Seems like food quality has drastically declined. A few days ago I orders two calzones and a salad and was told 30 minutes to pick up. Arrived 36 minutes after placing the order and was told it would be ready shortly. I ended up waiting another 30 minutes on top of that. Over an hour for an already prepared salad and a couple calzones? Terrible. It wasn't even a weekend. Will not return to this pizza place unless It's the only one open in a blizzard. read more

Ordered 4 pizzas on Sunday. They gave us the 5th for free. Nice feature. All the pizzas were correct as ordered. The problem was that they were all over cooked, dry, and little to no cheese. The quality here has completely fallen off. I used to visit engine 6 while in highschool and grew up with great quality food. This visit was awful. The sandwhich wasn't even an 8 inch sub and they called it a large. Vegetables weren't fresh, meat was thinly applied and the experience was awful. I came all the way from california hoping for a good local grinder and ended up with something that not even a large national sub chain would serve. Definitely pass up on engine 6. Clearly cost cutting or a lack of attention to detail are the order not quality food. Go to Great Oak 3 or Olympic but definitely pass on engine 6. read more

Good pizza...if you can order it... I was thrilled when Engine 6 announced a new website with online ordering! I no longer have to talk to slack-jawed yokels?? Awesome! I tried ordered tonight online (Wednesday) at precisely 9:31 pm. The only reason I ordered was because their website specifically states they are open until 10:00pm. Low and behold the 10pm open time means that you must order your food by 9:20pm and it will be delivered by 10pm at the earliest. I was not aware of this. In fact, nothing on the Engine 6 website states this. I was able to place an order through their website's online ordering system, using my credit card information. I even received an email confirmation! At 9:41 pm I received a call from someone at Engine 6 stating that I had called 40 minutes past their cut off for orders. I asked what will happen to my order as it was processed online. The man stated " We'll just tear up the order as if it didn't happen." I don't know what hack operation they're running here. If you advertise a business with a set schedule and an online ordering system, then I would hope you'd at least be prepared to fulfill those requests. The unprofessional nature of this pizzeria has surely turned me off, and anyone I can warn, to what could have been a great neighborhood restaurant. read more

Used to go there often, until this evening. My 2 orders of bread sticks showed up without the dipping sauce (no big deal) - so I called and was told they would be out with my sauce on the next available car (awesome). Even when I was at work ten minutes down the road. Every time, I say that I'll never order from them again. But it is local and seemed convenient, so I keep giving them the benefit of the doubt. Yesterday, I ordered 3 grinders. I called back an hour and 5 mins later asking where my food was. The manager told me she left 12 mins ago. I called back 5 mins later, and another person told me the delivery girl had been stuck in traffic for a half hour. Does That add up to you? They lied to cover their asses, and it took them 50 mins to have 3 grinders ready before they even left to deliver. i live in San Antonio where food is mad tasty already. on my first trip to Norwich, my boyfriend, who grew up there, took me Engine No. 6 promising a good calzone! i wasnt convinced til my second bite! when i got a better taste of their sauce in a Brushfire Cheese calzone. with all three cheeses, moz, ricotta and chedder melted to perfection, we ordered another for the plane home. best calzone i have ever had. read more
