This was my go to for Chinese food. Not sure what happened. The meat in all the entrees did not taste right. Too much MSG in the marinade? The sesame chicken well let's say it's different. When I gave it a chopstick pinch the meat flew out like a mini hot dog in a mini corn dog. Quality of food very low beef and pea pod It takes a lot to screw up that dish and they did. It might have been protein it sure didn't taste like beef. Strike 3 the egg foo young maybe they used powdered eggs, very little onion a broccoli. Yup broccoli. Horrible on the pallet. If I have to examine food throughout my meal it's not for me.... Only highlight is the hand drawn smiley on my almond cookie bag. Bought food from them today paid full price for tofu and broccoli and asked when I pickle sit up is it all there they said yes, got home no the broccoli isn't there I'm so I called and asked since I'm not coming back out to refund em the tofu since I paid fu piece for just tofu they said bring the food back and they will!!! Make it make sense they made a mistake but I the customer has to waste me gas to get a refund for them ripping me off of price and food!!! Would not recommend beware!!! I would give this zero stars if I could. I placed on order through the website for $94. It said it would be there in 25 min... an hour passes, I call the restaurant to ask if it was on the way and the girl says she needs the manager to call me back? Ok. Another 5 min passes and nothing, I call again and ask if she can see the order or if it got sent out or not.. again saying a manager will call.. another 10 min and I try to call again and they answer and hang up and I haven't been able to get them to answer since. No. Don't do it. I ordered based on the reviews. Someone said the chicken fried rice has great flavor. Umm... are you're taste buds destroyed!?! This is terrible chicken fried rice. They use white onions and hardly no eggs or green onion in it. The chicken was white so it wasn't cooked into the fried rice. Disgusting. The pot stickers were greasy and super hard on the ages. Actually cut the roof of my mouth. I didn't order the egg rolls cus they are the kind that stay thawed in a cooler and they drop them in. Looked horrible. Something about this restaurant has changed. 10 years ago they were the tops in the area for Chinese cuisine. I went there today and it was beyond awful. The General Tso's, which was what they were known for, was a tasteless, runny mess. The chicken egg foo yung was inedible. I will not be returning. read more

Even after all the bad reviews I thought I'd give it a chance. They were right. I was wrong. I ordered lunch special chicken lo mein... except my meal has absolutely 0 noodles in it. It's just chicken and veggies, and a crap ton of onions. Also, the rice was super dry on-top, very wet on the bottom. The egg was was awful and basically just all cabbage. He yelled across the floor I had to Rerepeat my order maybe 6 times. I asked if my egg patties will be in the gravy HE said Y.E.S. they weren't my $7.00 "shrimp fried rice" had 2 ,Two shrimps! The beef fried rice was a DRY rice with tasteless strips in it. Ooooh my God. I had to heat the lumpy, loud fishy smelling gravy. It was clumpy too thick. This was the worse Chinese food I have eaten. I ordered Chicken and Broccoli, what I received is some dry rice, chicken and Broccoli in some type of red paste like sauce. I have never received chicken and Broccoli in a red sauce. I am a good judge of restaurants and they are serving garbage. Freaking love this place! I used to go to Dragon Light but switched to En Lai after my boyfriend told me about it. I always order over the phone and everyone has been polite and has never screwed up my order. The food is ready fast and is hot. The portion sizes are good for the price and I almost always have left overs when I order a Combo. So happy I found En Lai for my Chinese food needs. I should mention that the food is good, duh. I usually order Beef with Broccoli or some sort of Lo Mein. My best friend loves General Tso's Chicken here. read more

I look outside to see if delivery lost in complex and found my order left ON THE STOOP OF MY CONDO IN THE STARTING RAIN!!! This place used to be good, USED TO! they have a white girl working there and she is passive agressive the way she acts, this is not an authentic chinese resturant if they have here working there. We've been in Joliet for seven months and had found a "favorite" chinese joint about seven minutes from us. Decided to try En Lai because it was right down the road...looks like the other place has lost our business. En Lai food is full of flavor - even the red sauce for the Sweet & Sour chicken had great flavor. I ordered chicken fried rice with my dish and it actually had chicken in it (uncommon from the other place) and my husband had pork fried - both of us were very pleased with the flavor. The egg rolls left a bit to be desired (reason for 4-star) but everything else was great. Serving size was good. Easy to order online. No place for coupons online but they apply at the restaurant when you pay. Dining area was clean. UPDATE: Food is still good, but I dropped this to a three star because they suck at customer service. No smiles...at all. Hi, total and thank you is about all you get - not rude at all but certainly not friendly. When I spend $35 every week there, one would think you'd get a Hi! This used to be a great place when the Rt 59 and essington rd were owned by the same people. They separated a couple of years ago and the essington rd one was not quite what it was but still pretty good. Now, it is really bad. Nothing special. I like Great Wok on the corner of Gaylord and Caton Farm much better but they are closed Tuesday's and I wanted Chinese so I chose En Lai. The egg rolls are kinda gross. The dumplings were ok but the meat inside was kinda creepy looking. It was mega dark and just not what I expected. I also got sweet and sour chicken. The S&S sauce was super thin and didn't have pineapple, tomato and green pepper chunks like I like. That was a bummer, I know some people don't like the chunks so there ya go. I was just disappointed it was a thin bland sauce. Someone else mentioned how it takes a long time to get an online order. It did. It took about 45 minutes at 3pm. Great Wok takes about 10-15 minutes anytime. Also need a minimum order of $15 before tax, tip and delivery fee for them to deliver. Just FYI. read more

I usually rate Chinese restaurants based on their eggrolls. Although the eggrolls here are not great, their other dishes more than make up for that. The Crab Rangoons are the best I've had outside of Joy Yi. They usually manage to get the Sesame Chicken perfect - a nice, light crisp/crunch on the outside, and moist on the inside. Some of their dishes can lean a little too heavy on the onions at the expense of the protein - the Mongolian Beef usually has more onion than beef - but it's hard to find something that doesn't taste great. read more

The food is good here! I usually get the orange chicken which I love. Good Lo mein and egg roll too. Overall good place but not when waiting, can be pretty busy so make sure to call ahead. Sometimes when i order online it takes a bit longer so I recommend calling. Could be cause it's the busiest and one of the better places around. This was the worst Chinese food I've ever had in my whole life! The sauces had no flavor. There were tiny bits of meat in the dishes with the rest being made up of bean sprouts and vegetables. My lips felt waxy after eating this food which is indicative of poor quality. This was the first time I threw out my entire container of food after only a few bites.
