My experience with Enterprise Cambridge was absolutely HORRIBLE!! They refused my valid French driver's license, which I've had for 6 years, just because it didn't have a gold logo on the back and claimed it had to match their "2026 booklet image." I've rented cars in the U.S. many times before with this exact same license and never had a single issue. The staff were condescending, rude, and treated me as if I were dishonest. They clearly lacked basic knowledge about foreign licenses, which is shocking for a global rental company. Truly one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. read more

I was only renting a car because my car had been hit by a drunk driver. Enterprise makes it so you have to use their EZ Pass transponder. I asked if I could use my own but it's literally secured to the windshield. They don't actually mention any of this at the desk. I had to ask and they kept the details vague on purpose. Months after returning the rental I get a bill for almost 5x the balance I had incurred using a couple of routine tolls. Enterprise sent me a bill asking for payment, and when I pushed back on why it was so high they gave me some vague explanation about having some third party service that charges an absolutely enormous markup at (again) SEVERAL TIMES the actual balance of the tolls. They then proceeded to just charge the money to my credit card without my authorization and have been playing nobody's home with my emails. This is the definition of a predatory company. Lining the fine print with indefensible fees and hiding behind the rental agreement all while you're in a vulnerable spot. Everybody is running a grift and Enterprise is no different. read more

Made a reservation for 12pm on a Saturday. Arrived at 12:15pm to find the location closed for the day. Update: looked at the confirmation email and sure enough there is a tiny asterisk and small print stating to show up 15 minutes early to accommodate this branch's closing time. Perhaps that important information could have been more prominently relayed. 12pm is too early to close on a Saturday. Lesson learned, rent from the airport location. read more

I had a great experience with Enterprise. Dean D. took the time to explain everything and let us choose between two cars. There was a misunderstanding about the fuel, so he wrote down it is 3/8 full when it was almost empty. I emailed them and they refunded me the price of the fuel and didn't expect to bring it back full. That was really nice. I appreciate when the staff takes the time to show me everything - where to drop off after hours and explaining more. The car was also very nice. I'm back to renting frequently from this location again. While the staff has changed since my original review, the customer service continues to be awesome. As with many car rental places in Boston, they are sometimes super busy, but I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes to get on the road. I've rented from this location several times, and the service has always been outstanding. Staff here are pleasant both in person and on the phone. The cars I've rented have been clean and well maintained. We've used a corporate discount for some of the rentals, and it's always been a very easy transaction. For our most recent rental experience (last week), they called us a day prior to the rental starting to let us know the car was available and we would be welcome to pick it up early for no additional charge. This was both kind and incredibly helpful, as it allowed me extra time to plan for the trip itself. I got rear-ended a few weeks ago and I was given a 2019 Nissan Altima SV with an expired inspection from the Porter Square location. I got a ticket for this so I called that Enterprise and Marcus(?) said to bring the car in so they could exchange it for another one and they also said they'd take care of the ticket - SINCE IT WAS NOT MY FAULT. Come to see, a few weeks later, I see a $70 charge listed as 'Parking', where they lied and actually charged me for this ticket, for which I had 0 fault. I called their Customer Care multiple times, and then the manager at this Enterprise branch, who said he would contact Customer Care and get me a refund for this unfair charge and then call me back as soon as possible, but of course, I got no phone call and Customer Care didn't hear from him. Don't trust these people to play fair. They'll do anything to take your money. read more

From the phone call, to making the reservation, being picked up in order to go pick up my rental was nothing but the best customer service. Enterprise is my go-to car rental company, mostly because I have a corporate code. But I've always had a pleasant experience with them. I normally rent from the Fresh Pond location, but this one is also a very convenient location - a short walk from the red line. Friday evening rental - they had no regular cars left, so they gave me a premium car without charging me extra. Swift process. One time, I only had about $200 until my credit card would max out. They normally put a $300 holding fee on your card until you return it (undamaged), but they gladly put a $200 holding fee on my card to make it work. So accommodating! Also great that they can pick you up and drive you to the car rental place. They're not super timely about this, as they've always arrive 10 minutes late every time I requested a pick up, but at least this is more than what other car rental companies offer read more

This is the most efficient rental location I've been to. It only took about 5 min after I arrived to have the car, and dropping it off again was just as quick. There were no aggressive attempts to sell extra features that I didn't need. The car that I rented was very new and in great condition. I booked online the day before I planned on picking the car up, and the price was very reasonable for Boston/Cambridge (I payed $31.60 for one day). Overall, I was extremely happy with the experience and will certainly consider using this location again! read more

I had made reservations online at least a month in advance for Memorial Day weekend. When the day finally came, my boyfriend and I walked over to pick up the car... First sign of what was to come: the Enterprise employee that was to "help" us moments later clearly saw us walking up towards the door and still walked right inside, letting it slam in our faces. Awesome. Undeterred, we open the door for ourselves and walk in. The employee couldn't find my reservation in the system, even though I was clearly holding a printout of the confirmation in my hands. And because this particular person couldn't pull it up right away (and refused to look at the printout), she also couldn't be bothered to do her job. When I asked to speak to a manager, she nonchalantly replied, "I am the manager," and walked away. We left extremely pissed off that this inept woman had just completely ruined our weekend plans without a care and couldn't be bothered to help us out on a day when they were obviously not busy at all (there was no one else inside when we showed up) and with a bunch of cars parked in their lot waiting to be rented. NEVER AGAIN. ***update already? The Dave has informed me that this location may be closing down soon. Good riddance! read more

These guys have a decent selection of cars and are one of the cheapest places to rent from for a couple days in the Cambridge area. Our hero paid the rate for a base level compact car and managed to get a spacious Nissan Rogue crossover when he arrived for pick up on the weekend. The staff here is pretty lenient and doesn't ding you with penalties or fees you weren't expecting. PROS: - Good staff. - Located near the subway so it's easy to get to without a car. CONS: - It's located at the intersection of a mish mash of one way streets on a strange corner, so it may take longer than you expect to return your rental if you miss a turn. read more

The old manager Brian deserved a 5 star but recently the management at this branch changed. The new manger Steve actually encouraged me twice to take a rental car with less tire pressure and charged me extra money when there was a problem in the first 3 cars they gave me. In the end I still got a car with low tire pressure and also got delayed for an important meeting because they were taking so long to process the car changes. I've rented from this place at least 2 times a month for the last 3 years but am NEVER going back again. Pull your socks up Enterprise and get the right people to do the job! read more

I've been a longtime Enterprise customer, and I thought they were pretty reliable, but nothing to write home about. But the staff on River Street impressed me today. We were running late, and they were closing when we arrived. If I had been them, I probably would have told myself to scram because it was Saturday. I've worked customer service, and I can sympathize with people wanting to go home. But Joe and the other guys there got us an SUV and didn't make us pay extra for it, even though we were late for our reservation. So, yes, a five-star review for Enterprise--at least in terms of their customer service. I usually rent cars with Budget and Hertz, but this time I thought I would try Enterprise in Central Square because the location was more convenient for me. That was a mistake on my part. This place is horrible, and it reflects badly on Enterprise as a company. First, high prices. The prices were higher than Hertz or Budget but I thought it was ok if the location was going to be more convenient (it turns out they charged me even more - see my third point). Second, bad customer service. I waited nearly half an hour as they ran in and out of the office looking for things for a customer. Third, not honoring their word. After waiting for nearly half an hour, I told the rep that I wanted to pick up my car. I asked him what happened with cars after closing time (the office closes Friday at 6p). He said customers leave cars in the lot and put their keys in the box. I then asked if I rented a car later in the day (say, after 5:30p) and with the 30 min grace period, if I could return the car to the lot at night and not be charged for the extra day. He said yes that was the case. So I told him I would come back later that day to get a car. I got the car, drove it 62 miles, and returned it three days later on Friday night as I had planned. BUT, I got my bill, and I was charged for four days (instead of three) despite what the rep told me. Fourth, bad customer service. I called into the office and explained the situation calmly. John, who answered the phone, had the audacity to yell at me over the phone and not process what I was saying to him. This situation wouldn't have happened with Hertz, Budget, or Zipcar. My initial impression of the place was good. And rented cars three times from them. Then a month later, I started getting random bills from them that involves $5 charge and a $12 collection fee on top of it. Seriously? So if they ever ask you if you want to upgrade your car for $5, don't do it. Because it's a lie and they will slap another $12 fee on top of it by sending you a separate bill. This is my first experience with Enterprise, and I'm now they're newest customer. In a previous review, I wrote how Thrifty disappointed me with exorbitant taxes and fees, and no unlimited miles - Enterprise not only beat Thrifty's prices, but they also gave me unlimited miles for my ride. Which makes sense, I mean, if you rent a car for a whole day, there's a chance you'll need to travel pretty far, right? Anyway, Enterprise has more than just that going for them - I was told at the counter that if I find a better price on a rental in the same neighborhood, they will match or beat the price! Sweet! I wish I knew that before! They also have a great service where they'll pick you up if your own car breaks down and you need a rental, and they'll drop you off at the shop once your car's ready. I'm sure there's an extra fee attached to that, but if your car's at a shop that's not easily accessible by T, it may be worth it. My car wasn't ready when I arrived, I actually had to wait 15 minutes until it showed up, but my reservation was extended by the appropriate amount and the customer service was just too good to really hold a grudge against them. I gotta tell you about how I was treated here. It was great. I walked in on Saturday morning and was greeted by Jen with a handshake. A HANDSHAKE. More than just a smile and a good morning - actual tactile contact - and that left a great impression. I got a free upgrade in the form of a sleek Nissan Altima (with a smart key!), specially chosen for me because I requested an AUX-in port for my iPod. Jen gave the car a quick wash and vacuum treatment, and gave me a complimentary bottle of water and some munchkins while I waited. Soon enough I was on my way - a half hour late, which is why I'm docking a star, but this is still the best rent-a-car treatment I've ever had. I have to give a special shout-out to Jen Milia. She's very pleasant and will try to help you out if she can. So if you go to this branch, pray that Jen will be the one shaking your hand. Alright Enterprise, not that you need any more pressure or anything, but you've just set the bar for my expectations. Don't let me down! read more

I feel like expressing love for a car rental place is like saying you are looking forward to a root canal or that you really sympathize with those Federal Reserve executives. Definitely not sexy, but I have to give some serious props to the Enterprise on River St for being about the best rental car place I have ever used. I have rented a car from them about 5 or 6 times now for day or weekend trips and it has always worked out really well. With Zipcars running about $8/hr and having no desire to go all the way out to the airport to rent a car, this locaiton provides a really economic and convenient option. They are able to accomodate my avoidance of PT Cruisers (kill me now!) and always get me on my way quickly and with a smile. I love the location, which is really convenient if you live in Central, but also would be great for anyone to take the Red Line and get off about 50 yards from their front door. They also take a really good approach to customer service - always asking how you are doing, upgrading me to a Cadillac on my birthday weekend for free, taking the time to explain any stupid question I have about scratches or insurance, and generally do a great job of handling some big lines and getting people moving quickly. I would definitely continue to use Enterprise on River and would recommend it as a cheaper alternative to ZipCar for Cambridgians looking for a day trip or longer (5 or 6 hours+) outing this spring and summer. read more

Convenient location! If only the people who worked there didn't suck. They totally screwed over my GF. She returned the rental to the lot. It was in perfect condition. If only we had taken pictures of it. It's central square and sh** happens. Some time during the night someone else dinged it. Impossible to prove without evidence. What does Enterprise do? They blame it on my GF. $900 for a ding on a truck. Thanks, guys! After getting a lawyer involved they drop the price... to $700. Needless to say, this Enterprise location sucks. Enterprise is fairly consistently a decent company to rent cars from. Their prices are a bit on the high end, and they don't have a AAA discount (grr), but after looking around they're actually not that much more expensive than say Hertz or Budget. An advantage is their "We'll pick you up," which has come in useful. This location has probably not the best selection of cars, but after calling in the day before to reserve an economy-class car for saturday, and finding when I arrived that their only economy car left was a small "Smart ForTwo" style car (seriously, look it up, it's like a toy), they were more than willing to upgrade me to a better car, for less than it would normally cost. Also, they're open until 1 on a sunday, which is useful for those not-quite-the-whole-weekend rentals that occasionally need to happen. The customer service here seemed pretty good, and should I find myself needing a car again while here in Boston I'd probably return. read more

Meh... Kinda dirty and my car wasn't ready for me... I rent from Enterprise very often - about 25 weeks worth every year. So, I appear to like the company and their service. This location, however, was disappointing. I arrived at the time I'd indicated on my reservation. I was told that they were just "finishing up" cleaning the car. 30 minutes later I was finally able to get the car... Almost. The condition of the car, we'll call it Car 1, was okay. A little beat up but nothing horrible. The inside, however, smelled like an ashtray. I told the crew I wasn't happy and they offered me a different car which was a good thing. This car, Car 2, looked like it had been in a war. Scrapes, scratches, dings all over. And it only had a half tank of gas. Happy to simply have a car I could breathe in, I drove off. Unfortunately, Car 2 makes strange noises when it is put into Drive. I'll continue to rent from Enterprise... Just not this location. read more

I needed a car for a trip over Thanksgiving weekend, from Cambridge, MA to the Scranton, PA area. As usual, I waited until about two days before my travel date to look for transportation. After Hertz and a few other local rental providers proved problematic, Enterprise saved the day. Not only did they have the cheapest quote, but they also had the best holiday hours - as well as an After Hours key drop box (a puzzlingly elusive concept among other companies, whose online reservation systems chastised me for selecting a return time outside the M-F nine to five). Enterprise's system allowed me to return the car without a problem after we were held up in holiday traffic for hours on the Saturday of our return and missed their shortened office hours. I had reserved the cheapest available class of cars, but due to many holiday walk-ins, there were none left on the lot when I went to pick up my vehicle. A friendly associate, Chris, offered me a choice of three no-cost upgrades, with a miles-per-gallon estimate to help me make a decision. I was also pleased that Enterprise allows rentals to drivers under the age of 25, for a fee of about $75 - otherwise, my trip would've been over before it started. The staff was jovial, the price was appropriate, and the car was well-maintained. All was well! Until I received the bill, and noticed that the charged price was about $90 more than my quoted estimate. I made a quick call to the office and another associate, Steve, pulled up the reservation and took a look at the charges. After verifying that I had been mistakenly overcharged, he refunded the money immediately, apologized for the inconvenience, and thanked me for reaching out. "When we screw up, we like to have people call us on it so we can fix it," he said. In a world where customer service transactions are most often a battle of wills, I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of this transaction. I highly recommend this location! read more

We normally go to the Medford Mystic location of Enterprise (also excellent), but came here this time because we needed a Sunday morning pickup. This location has to be one of the oddest rental car spots I've ever seen, shoehorned into a small triangular lot at a complicated intersection just off Central Square. That said, I got the expected outstanding Enterprise service at this location, and while I was waiting to turn my car in, I watched the manager handle a particularly distraught and difficult renter with great aplomb. We had a minor accident (somebody scraped the bumper of our parked car) and they handled the necessary paperwork with speed and consideration. All in all, considering the apparent high volume of business at the location and the extremely small lot and odd building, very professionally run. read more

The location is convenient but they were completely understaffed. We rented a car on Mother's Day (coincidentally) for 1030 and when we arrived they had zero cars. We weren't the only ones who had a reservation that morning either. That morning, we also tried to call for a pickup and no one picked up the phone. Granted, the guys working were doing everything they could but not having cars at a car rental agency is probably bad for business. We eventually got a car an hour later. read more

Renting cars is not always a straightforward or painless process, so it is nice when everything goes smoothly and the rental agency even goes above and beyond. I had a really good experience with this branch. The location is convenient and everything was efficient and smooth. What really impressed me is that even though they are technically closed after about 1pm on Sunday, they keep people around all day to clear out the lot for after-hours drop. This was a very nice convenience, as it made is easy to turn in my car Sunday evening after a weekend rental, and not have to worry about the lot being full or something happening to the car overnight.
