After a LONG day of walking around Chicago in below freezing temperatures, my family and I needed a meal of EPIC proportions to destroy our hunger, heat us up from the frigid temps, and great service to make us feel welcome in a town that wasn't our own. I'm extremely pleased to say that we received all of these things and more! We were greeted at the counter by Joe, a charismatic, very friendly young man who knew that customer service comes first and foremost. He took our orders and took the time to double-check and make sure that everything was right, even taking the time to recommend the grilled-cheese (that isn't on the menu) for our two kids that don't really like burgers. (which the kids enjoyed!) We got everything squared away and Joe and a sweet young woman brought our food out and made sure that we got our correct orders and if we needed anything else. Onto the food - I got a double epic with Bacon, Lettuce, tomato, raw onion (grilled are also available), and Epic Sauce, along with fries and a drink. The best thing about this meal food-wise was the pure clean ingredients. Grass Fed Angus Beef with basic salt and pepper, organic fresh vegetables, and strips of bacon that were large enough to hang off the bun! The Double Epic was DELICIOUS! The fries were great as well. They were lightly salted and I added a little more for good measure. (I prefer the less is more approach, since often most places serve fries with far too much salt.) My entire family loved the meal! That being said, the best part of our visit was definitely the top-notch, fantastic customer service that Joe delivered! It's nice to know that there are still people like Joe out there that give a damn about making sure people are treated right and that customers will come back. A good burger - patty was slightly overcooked and crispy on the edges, but the bun, cheese and grilled onions were all good. Extremely well-priced for what they're serving (all organic, farm raised, grain-fed, stuff like that). There are places back home in Kansas that charge almost double for similar menus and Epic Burger tastes better than that. We just ordered the classic burgers. The taste was excellent for both the fries and the burger. The only reason I give it a 4 star is that the prices are misleading. You start at $6 for a burger but if you want cheese you have to add $2 and even more for other items. Some of the toppings came for free. So all in all it is priced similarly to other burger places. I had been hearing a lot about this place so I stopped on down after work for a bite to eat. I got in at about 9:30 (closes at 10) and decided to get my food to go because I work at a restaurant and I hate when people come in right before close and sit down. As I approached the register one of the employees sauntered over from the back of the restaurant. Her heals were dragging so loudly that I giggled to myself. I asked if I could get food to go and after a barley audible "uh huh" i ordered a bacon cheeseburger. She informed me that they were out of bacon (what?!) and it could only be a cheeseburger. I said ok and asked for mayo and then she told me I could only get it in packets. I obliged and as I took my number I watched the kitchen. For both burgers before me the cooks peeled back the layer of cling wrap covering the mayo tub and slapped huge dollops of mayo on both burgers. For mine they neglected to peel back the cling wrap and they gave me two packets of Helmans'. Now i know they were 30 minutes from closing but it isn't very hard to take 3 seconds out of your shift, slap some mayo on, and get the bacon out of the fridge. The burger itself was bland and overcooked, and the fries were burnt. I don't care if your cows eat grass from the garden of Eden; if the patty isn't spiced right, your fries are burnt, and your employees are too lazy to get out some mayo and bacon from the fridge than you have a weak eating establishment. This place needs to get new cooks and a night manager. Until then I will get a far batter burger for the same price (and better service) at hackneys which is right down the street. read more

My wife and son were running in the Glorun 5k event and we were looking for a quick bite to eat before the run. We each had an Epic burger while my twin girls who are six split a grilled cheese. Got to say the place reminded me of Five guys, Meatheads, or any of these new fan dangled burger joints. Over all the burger tasted pretty darn good. Epic... No. But I would eat there again if in the area. The Epic sauce was pretty also tasty. We ordered fries too and they were good. For the five of us it was a click under $40. Pretty pricy considering it was 3 burgers, my son's had bacon, a fry, a milk shake, 2 drinks and a grilled cheese. The quality of the food makes up for the price, but still $40 is a lot of coin to drop on a higher end fast food burger joint. I had a hard time deciding between 3 and 4 stars. Mostly the quality vs. price debate. In the end, the food quality won. Epic... Not quite. Overall, pretty darn good! read more

I went to Epic Burger during my lunch break in hopes of good food and ordered their chicken sandwich on white with raw onions, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and epic sauce with a side of fries and a south beach smoothie to go. Unfortunately, when I got back to work and opened the bag my chicken sandwich was just chicken and bread...no toppings not even the famous "epic sauce." I thank the person from Epic Burger for attempting to explain the reason for no longer accepting cash as payment at the restaurant. I want to understand this decision. I agree that safety is an important consideration. A check carries the risk that the account has no money to back it. It seems to be that accepting cash payment is one of the necessary risks of business, similar to having electrical plugs, hot stoves, slippery floors after mopping, and then all those customers who feel like throwing a punch at someone or bringing a gun into the place. In order to attend to all those safety concerns (having no electricity or hot water, etc.), we wouldn't be able to serve the public. Shortly before going to Epic Burger, I had spent cash at Crate and Barrel, the Container Store, and Peet's Coffee. Those employees actually seemed happy to receive my cash. If a business can't accept cash in relatively small amounts, you might as well close the doors. I'm awfully sad about this because you have absolutely terrific burgers! read more

Great food, horrible service. It was mine and my boyfriends first time at Epic Burger. The cashier was very ignorant and a smart ass. I ordered a number 3 and he replied "I dont know what that is." I repeated myself, and so did he. I was confused because that is an option on their combo meal menu. He must have noticed my confusion because he then replied and asked if I wanted a shake or a malt, so evidently he did know what it was. He then rattled off questions as to what i would like on my burger. He continued doing the same for my boyfriends order, however his tone and attitude was not appreciated. When we recieved our food, I told the girl I had ordered a shake, as she walked away, she turned back, screamed across the room and asked what flavor. I hadn't gotten my shake by the middle of my meal yet, so my boyfriend asked her again, and she replied "Im getting to it." With her hand in his face!! So disrespectful! Finally I recieved my shake, but i was done with my meal!!! i understand if your having a bad day, but all he employees are so rude. My Epic burger was a totally awesome one. I can't say I had any complaints about this place, unless having some juicy burger goodness drip down my fingers counts. But the quality and taste of the burger make up for any of its messiness. Yeah, $10 is a lot for a burger combo, but I thought it was way worth it, and c'mon people, you're paying over 5 bucks for a McDonald's meal with anything over the size of a cheeseburger. Plus, they give you a really large serving of fries that I would never be able to finish on my own. I got the beef burger with grilled onions and horseradish havarti on the white (egg) bun. First - the beef doesn't look like it's been pre-processed and frozen before it comes out for cooking - it's a good old-fashioned, misshapen, aromatic patty of goodness. Second - I rarely complain when I can get grilled onions on my burger. Third - the horseradish havarti is a totally left-field choice for me, but it added just the right about of kick, mild, yet noticeable. And fourth - that eggy bun had that beautiful little ring of crispness around the edges. That's the kind of thing that makes me drool. This was my first experience at Epic Burger. i dont eat beef but had the taste for a juicy turkey burger. Epic had one of the best turkey burgers, i 've ever tasted outside of my own. I'm sure the fresh ingredients of the burger and the fixins had a lot to do with it, but it was Great!. I had mine with the egg, aged cheddar cheese and grilled onions. The place has a great energetic positive student vibe that was just what i needed in the middle of the day at the office. The service is friendly and fast but not too fast as they make your food fresh! I highly recommend a visit. read more

How has this place managed to stay off my radar??? I was at lunch with a couple of my clients the other day and they mentioned Epic Burger had the best fast food burgers around. I immediately asked my work lunch buddy to check it out with me. This place is deceiving! When you see it from the outside it looks tiny. Upon walking in we realized it goes way back and the line to order stretches all the way down the right side of the place. The ordering style allows you to create your own burger...everything from meat, to toppings, to bun. I went with the standard burger on white with the toppings and Epic sauce along w/fries and a fountain drink. The burger was very good...best you can get in the city for a reasonable price. The meat was fresh and I liked the Epic sauce. The fries were also fresh and tasty. Epic burger is definitely on my short list...you must give it a try if you are in the loop over the lunch hour! read more

I feel kinda iffy about epic burger. On the one hand, I like that they had turkey burgers, whole wheat buns, etc. The fries were pretty good (didn't try the shakes - although someone else had and liked theirs.) That being said, I thought the turkey burger was kind of weird. It's very thin and the edges are really really thin. A bit hard to describe, but once you see it you'll know what I mean. I found it to be odd and not terribly enjoyable because of that. Overall, not my favorite place. read more

Don't get me wrong, I still love the food and the concept but their website is completely deceptive regarding delivery. They claim that they deliver through two different companies- GrubHub and Seamless. The truth is that we were unable to place an order through either of these companies the other night. Finally, I called and the person who answered the phone had no idea what I was talking about and had to ask someone else. He came back on the line to tell me that they "don't deliver in the South Loop." OK, you are located in the South Loop. "Well, have you ever been here? All of our business is really north." Then why call yourself South Loop? Why even have a location here? It's so annoying! We live in the South Loop, about eight blocks south of this restaurant's location. They really shouldn't say that they deliver when they don't deliver within the community where they are located. At the very least, they could have a posted delivery area. I've eaten my fair share of burgers in the loop over the years, and this place rates pretty low. I had a single cheddar burger with fries and a bottled water for $12.00. The food was okay but not memorable and lacked seasoning. If you are going to charge this much for a burger, please include some salt and pepper. Next time I want a burger, I'll head over to Lockwood for only a couple of dollars more and have a nice meal. read more
