Oh holy $!@& these are some epic sandwiches. They take a sandwich and go way overboard on packing them with freaking awesome fillings. Your best bet, if you don't know much about the place, is stop reading this review and read their menu. Did you read the menu? Good. Now I assume your thinking that this place sounds great but can they pull off some of those wild combos? The answer is yes, yes they can. Go wild, pick something nuts. I came here about 6 years ago after several friends recommended it (the Pandamonium is actually named after one of my friends). I believe I had The Sunshine and it was very yummy, albeit pretty basic. My fiancé and I went for a drive this weekend in the area and decided to order out. Because of Covid, we just had a picnic out in the grassy area by the parking lot. Loaded Spuds - amazing flavor, however, they did not add the side of ghost pepper ranch (okay by me, as the jalapeños added enough spice!) Chocolate shake - tasted like a chocolate shake, good though! Keto BLT - bacon was wayyyy overcooked and there was way too much. Pretty hard to chew and the ratio compared to the lettuce and tomato was ridiculous. Not sure how keto the tortilla actually was. Flavor was pretty good, but it was hard to eat. I plan to remove the toppings and remake it in a lettuce wrap (I only ate half of it). Rick Grimes - Italian beef with garlic, balsamic and bruschetta.... what?! The combo sounds weird but holy crap was it good. The flavors complimented each other so well. Probably one of the best Italian beefs I've ever had. Epic Deli is a little bit of a hike for us to get to, but I'm very glad we decided to go, after sort of forgetting about it for so long. It is in a new location and I didn't go inside to pick it up, so I'm not sure what the new building looks like. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars. First time to the new location. Used to go to the old location on the river all the time. Haven't had the time and or opportunity to go until try the new place till now. At the old place the prices were higher than other places but you received an EPIC sandwich. Any of them. Service was friendly too. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED???? Guess I've been away too long. Sandwiches are still of good quality but quantity has been literally cut in half. Razor thin slices too, how do they do that? Ginsu knife? New Location, same options, specials weekly. Crazy concoctions, delicious ideas, even better dirt cup. The restaurant itself is a converted space, counter used to be the bar of previous restaurant, a bit odd when walking in. Open inviting, but not the cleanest establishment. Coming here, expect the usual deli sandwiches but more. Everything here is more. In all there's so many options I'd come back to try something new each time. Would I come back, I would but wouldn't crave it, nothing too memorable other than the ghost pepper ranch sauce. read more

We drive a half hour just to eat here. I always love the vegan options. Most recently it was the vegan crunch wrap, which I enjoyed. I don't like a lot of vegan cheeses and would probably get it without that next time. The fries and fried mushrooms were both good too! read more

I have unfortunately have had my last 3 orders messed up... they forgot the pork belly on my Smoking Pope sandwich then when i mentioned the sandwich was made wrong, they wouldn't make me a new one and gave me store credit and I didn't get to eat after driving 30 minutes to come here... the next time the sandwich was wrapped sloppy so my sandwich fell apart... then this time they forgot 2 major ingredients again, a cheese and garlic bread... all times were served cold and soggy... and they weren't busy AT ALL. They started over breading their pickle chips... if there's one thing Epic Deli HAD it was the best pickle chips EVER... but now even that is messed up.... and they were CHARRED... you couldn't even tell what it was when you looked at it or tasted it. It could've been fried dog crap from outside and you wouldn't know... I asked for a new sandwich and pickle chips politely because I should've known better to come back.. THE ONLY REASON I AM GIVING 2 STARS is because this is the first time I ever received good customer service since I have ever came to epic deli. I come here from Colorado and it's a treat my dad and I look forward to when i visit... but the place has officially gone to crap.. OUR MEALS WITH PICKLE CHIPS COSTED 45 DOLLARS. I've always really loved Epic Deli, and their food is spectacular, but my visit the other day was very disappointing. The girl working at the register was very kind and allowed us to take our time deciding what we wanted, however, we missed an ingredient on the menu that we didn't want. When we kindly asked if they would remake it, the manager of Epic Deli came out and was extremely rude about the situation. This place is a gem in the suburban north! They have weekly specials that range from appetizers, the sandwiches and their shakes. The food items are creative and numerous meaning you can probably come here for a month/s and not order the same thing. In fact, I've come here every week for the last month and I can't get tired of it. And if your a big TV/movie fan, you might find a themed sandwich you can gravitate to! I've tried every Game of Thrones named sandwich they come out with! Not only is the food awesome, but the establishment is really nostalgic if you grew up in the 80's and 90's with rock memorabilia, arcade/pinball machines all around. They have a cool range of music, from skaa to classic rock so if your about the feel and chill vibe, this place definitely has a personality. Only complaint? Good Vibes* Over all this is a relaxed, good vibes sit down or carry out restaurant. I was very excited to try them out, and I had been given several recommendations on what to eat from friends and I was not disappointed. This location is at the end of a strip mall business complex at the end. There is a good amount of parking, and plenty of inside seating. When you walk in there is a stand at the front of the order line with there different menu's so you can take your time picking what you want to eat and not strain your eyes to read the menu behind the counter. They are up to date on there computers so if you don't have cash they can take your card no problem. They even have some old school video games, pin ball, and air hockey to play. You can choose from a booth, a stand along stable or group seating and the whole restaurant is decorated with music memorabilia. I came just to try there Vegan menu and I was really excited to see they had desert shake options. I tried the vegan steak tacos, vegan chili cheese fries, and the vegan smore's shake. That was my favorite. Everyone seemed really nice, and you can take a seat and wait for your food since they hand you a number for your order, and when it's done they bring it right to you. It took some time for my order to get to me, they were busy, but everything was hot and tasty. I would recommend this place to anyone but diffidently to my vegan friends! read more

Well, where to start! I ordered the Soulman and a side of fries. Both were disappointing. The sandwich had jalapeño aioli, bacon (one strip), cheese, avocado, onions, and turkey. Once I received it, I immediately noticed it was covered and soaking in aioli I like aioli, but I don't enjoy it soaking my entire sandwich. I went in for my first bite and I swear I broke a tooth. The bacon was so hard! I couldn't chew on it or bite through it. I take another bite and I'm ready to puke! They put a thick layer of avocado spread which tasted like old baby food - not fresh. Where I'm from, if it says avocado, it means fresh avocado slices not avocado spread. The fries were just as bad. I took a few bites and thought I was eating old fries. No salt, no flavor, just old stale French fries. I got the courage to go up and ask for a new sandwich or a refund. The two ladies were nice and pointed me to the manager. I expressed my dissatisfaction and he didn't seem pleased, rather he looked annoyed. I made sure to be polite and let him know that I was uncomfortable making the complaint. I did receive a new sandwich - turkey sandwich - but it wasn't any better. Save yourself some trouble and just head over to Subway. Well, they certainly live up to their name! Our first visit was at their old location (they're now in McHenry). It just so happened we were in the area so naturally we had to stop in. Hubs and I decided on two of their specials (descriptions from their FB page): Hubs had "THE BIG ED- ... Our house pulled pork topped with our house BBQ sauce, bacon, onion straws, bacon aioli, and topped with our version of Ed's famous "Tony Mac" (BBQ mac and cheese with pulled pork and chopped brisket)! Served in between two grilled cheese sandwiches that are stuffed with cheddar, smoked gouda, and pepperjack cheese and garnished with a habanero pickle." I had "THE AMERICAN GANGSTER-italian beef, Italian sausage, pizza sauce, pepperoni, giardiniera, and mozzarella cheese! Served on a garlic bread sub." The sandwiches were nothing short of amazing. The flavors all paired well and the portions were enormous. We each only ate half of our meals. The price I felt was fair for the amount of food received. Service was pretty quick despite the prep time needed for each sandwich. We also arrived shortly after opening so our wait time was considerably less. We haven't been to the new location yet, but we are definitely looking forward to our next calorie bomb soon. TL, DR: Overcooked, overpriced, long wait even when empty. What happened?! I didn't realize they TOTALLY closed the Johnsburg location and moved to McHenry. It was pretty empty on Monday at 5:40pm, with maybe 6 tables of couples or families already eating. There was 1 order in front of me, but it took nearly 20 minutes to get my To-Go order. FOOD: I got the Jaws-Wich ($12) - with panko-crusted, fried SHARK (!!!)...because SHARK! duh. It came with lettuce, tomato, avocado, fries with ghost pepper sauce, and remoulade sauce. I also ordered a small fry. VERDICT: Total disappointment across the board! Fries: 1/5 I dove right into the fries, which were barely warm, over salted, and over done. They had obviously been sitting around a lot longer than my sandwich had...I'm thinking they were cooked first. Jaws-Wich: 2/5 Oversized sub roll with barely any shark meat. What was there was very tough and over fried - anything fried dark brown-black is going too far. The sammy had just a sprinkle of lettuce, and everything inside was just dwarfed by the roll. They topped it with the same overdone fries. The flavors of the ghost pepper sauce was good, as was the remoulade; however, the "remoulade" was green in color (?!). The Emily was delicious with a great balance of bbq pulled pork, jalapeño mac n cheese, bacon, and onion strings. My husband and I split a footlong and we were both full with only a half each. We had been to the Johnsburg location and handful of times. We dined at the new location for the first time about a week ago. It was busy for a weeknight. The new location is open, bright and I loved the various video games along the walls. I really liked the printed menus in the basket near the door. My vision isn't great and I hate having to ask my husband to help me read the sandwich ingredients on a reader board. My husband ordered the Epic Burger. I thought for sure he would order one of the many bbq pork sandwiches. It was a double patty burger. Not too messy. He said it was good, but a pretty standard burger. I ordered the XXX sub with turkey, bacon, Swiss, lettuce, tomato, red onion and mayo. The bread was really super soft. The sandwich was a little light on the turkey. I remember the Johnsburg location sandwiches being stuffed full of ingredients. My one real complaint about this sandwich, they forgot the mayo. Otherwise, it was really good. I will order it again. My son ordered the Italian beef, dry, no peppers. I tried a bite of his. The beef was really tasty and they stuffed a lot into his bun. I might order this next time. We also had an order of the fried pickle chips. These are really good. The pickles were still crisp and the breading was crunchy, not greasy. The dill dipping sauce was just right. The portion was huge. We had taken some home. They were surprisingly good cold to. We had them left over with tzatziki sauce. We will be back. It pains my heart to rate this amazing restaurant so low - but my recent experience with this place was TERRIBLE. First, let me say that I've been eating at Epic Deli since they opened their doors at the original location. Until recently, I've never had a bad experience here - I ALWAYS tell visitors, family, work colleagues, or people that are new to the area that Epic is a place they HAVE to try. Today, my family and I ate dinner here. We had a party of 8 people, and easily spent over $120.00. Keep in mind, we were the ONLY people there at the time. My son, who is 4, was recently diagnosed with Celiac disease. This makes dining out a hassle, but most places have evolved to make gluten-free foods easy to access, or at least have options. I understand how it can be frustrating to deal with food allergies, I work in retail and have worked in the service industry. My wife and I always keep this in mind when ordering and always treat everyone we come across with respect. As we approached, we saw a sign hanging that said, "Gluten-free options now available". Cool! Great! Good news, right? Wrong. When we asked about these gluten-free options, we were told rudely, " Uhm, we don't have any gluten-free options. We can make you a salad, that's it." When we asked about the sign, we were told, "Uhm, no, we don't have any." So, we had to substitute A LOT, which is TOTALLY fine...if we weren't charged for the full items that some of the substituted items came off of, and if the cashier and other employees were any help with it. We substituted with items we knew are naturally gluten-free. I get it's a business, but Epic has NEVER been this way. It took my wife a solid 5-6 minutes to order a shared meal for her and our two small children. My aunt and her boyfriend were next. Sometimes they can be picky - annoying to some, I get it. Her boyfriend asked if he could have an order of shrimp. They made him pay for a $9 salad - for not even one and a half handfuls of shrimp. No salad included. Luckily, I'm easy. I always get the same thing, no complaints on that end. I really don't like writing this about a restaurant that I've come to love so much - but this was the worst dining experience I've had in years. I still love the food, but dealing with the snobby attitudes and lack of customer service just isn't worth the money and time. I regret to say, we won't be back for a while. I get it, "whatever, we have a ton of other customers, you can't please everyone". This is the first bad review I've ever given - I don't like doing it.
