I have been a semi regular customer since Equator Larkspur first opened. It used to be consistently excellent in product and service. But sadly, the service has significantly deteriorated of late. Recently, I waited 5 minutes as the only person in line in front of the register without even a glance or acknowledgment from the staff - i left without ordering. On other occasions, it has taken 20 to 30 minutes to get a coffee without explanation or apology. The service is often surly and rarely friendly or warm. While Equator Larkspur has a great downtown location and consistently good coffee, it's crucial they better train their staff to be courteous and show genuine hospitality. read more

This is a great, conveniently located cafe. Indoor seating was closed during the pandemic but there are about 8-10 small tables for outdoor seating (some with sun and some with shade). It isn't an optimal spot to work since the chairs aren't particularly comfortable to be sitting in for long periods of time. There is a bathroom in the mall/complex which is just across from the cafe; you just need to ask the cashier for the restroom key. I ordered an iced vanilla latte with a strawberry waffle. I am no coffee enthusiast, but I thought the coffee was good in flavor. You place your order inside and wait outside for you drink and/or food. The strawberry waffle was a bit much with the chocolate so I would ask for the sauce on the side. Waffles are also gluten free! Decaf roasts have come along way and thank goodness. If you'd like a capp sans caffeine, then this might be the place for you. The espresso (again, decaf) and milk drink I ordered was well-balanced, flavorful & a perfect temperature. What I dug about this particular outpost was its committment to bike culture. There is a decent amount of cycle swag for sale and helpful Marin bike routes posted for those on two wheels. Equator also has bike parking set up out front of their store. Given that this cafe is on one of the aforementioned bike routes, it sorta makes sense that Equator would want to cater to cyclists who may wish to pull over and fuel up before continuing on their merry way. Good on them. This joint also sort of functions as a bier garten. Buy a can o' fancy brew and enjoy it al fresco in Equator's outside seating area along Magnolia. I think this place even boasts a Happy Hour. Top-notch coffee equipment is in stock as well. Ceramic filters, filter paper, grinders of various description and coffee makers are available for those who wish to make coffee at home. The shop space itself is somewhat wee. During the week, I found Equator to be fairly quiet & stress-free. This is one of my absolute favorite coffee spots in Marin County! Nestled in a cute boutique store area of downtown Larkspur, it's always fun to meet with friends and have a nice cup of coffee in front of their store, either at a table or picnic bench. They offer assorted pastries and other drinks besides coffee. Wonderful all times of the year! Lots of dogs and kids/families frequent this location. read more

I had a really good experience with the manager of equator coffee larkspur. I am vegan ( dairy, egg and gluten free) . It's hard for me to find yummy baked goods. Equator coffee has a wonderful muffin thats banana carrot. I love it it's moist and sweet and yummy. It also fits into my diet. It's vegan and dairy free. I like to sleep in on Sundays and so there were a few Sundays that I tried to order my favorite muffins from grub hub but they were all out. So I talked to the manager and he decided to hold a few for me until I was able to make my order. He also said the muffins were very popular and he would put in a bigger order of his own from the bakery that he gets them from. Well now when I get up late on Sunday I can still get my muffins. I'm very happy with this service. If your vegan or gluten free or both and want a yummy sweet moist carrot banana muffin I recommend equator coffees muffins. There the best. And also they have a decaf chai which is also my favorite that's hard to find. read more

Love their coffee beans for use at home, but came here on a weekday at 10am and the barista advised me not to order an espresso-based drink as it would take them 20-30 minutes to prepare it (due to the orders in front of me.) Been coming here for awhile. The Habibi latte with oat milk is so freaking good. One of the few alternative milk drinks I've had where the alternative milk doesn't overpower the drink. The app makes ordering ahead super convenient and the occasional $5 off it offers is great. Today was the first time the drinks weren't perfect. Almost seemed like the roast was burnt. But after coming here regularly for almost a year, I'm guessing it's a fluke. Still love this place. read more

I went to both the Larkspur and Mill Valley locations within the last week and I was equally disappointed at each. Both trips went exactly the same. We pulled up and only a few people were waiting outside for their coffees. We figured, what the heck, let's just order here because no one is waiting. Over the span of 20 minutes, both times, 10+ people got their coffees ahead of us because they presumably ordered online ahead of time. Both trips we waited 20 minutes for two small lattes. As most know, Equator is the local coffee chain in Marin that is slowly making their way into east bay and the city. Sure their coffee is alright, but it is nothing to call home about. Their sizes are much smaller than competitors and their prices are higher. They must think they can charge more than Starbucks or Peet's because they are an independent coffee shop, but come on, it's hardly worth the small size that even a child would be disappointed with. Needless to say, I'll be sure to remember next time I'm in the area to continue on to some of the other better options because I don't have the time to spend on an overpriced tiny cup of mediocre coffee. read more

We've been here a few times and every time they get our order wrong and take almost an hour to get us all our drinks. We went there today and after placing our order waited about 20 minutes for a matcha and regular latte. We had to remind the staff they missed one order for a regular coffee, which they gave us in a couple of minutes. Then after another 10 minutes we reminded them we never got our breakfast sandwich. They said they never placed the order to begin with... They appear to be fully staffed but no one seems to know what they're doing. Overall this place is a waste of time and I definitely recommend going to a different cafe where you'll have a much better experience. The Equator at Woodlands Cafe has much better service. read more

They're coffee is so good!! It is in a beautiful neighborhood and they have great outdoor seating. They don't have a lot of indoor seating though, aside from bar seating. The location itself is pretty small, but I would definietly go back for the coffee and pastries. Against my better judgement I went the day after Thanksgiving at around 8:30 in the morning and it was INSANE! Super duper crowded and very long wait. Just being in there stressed me out and made me angry. The whole feel of it was so chaotic. The staff were very nice and doing their best, but avoid this location if possible. This remains one of my favorite coffee shops in Marin. It's always a relaxing, sunny spot to get your caffeine fix and catch up with friends. Everyone here (from the employees to the patrons) just seem happy all the time. And what's not to like about that? I came here recently for coffee with my sister. She got a cold brew coffee; I had the affogato (espresso poured over vanilla ice cream); and we split an oatmeal raisin cookie. We enjoyed our treats on their outdoor (dog-friendly/bike-friendly) patio, and we felt like we were on vacation. There's lots of interesting people-watching to do on this street. You've got soccer moms, pilates students, bicyclists, yuppies, hippies, you name it. Everyone seems to get along well in the same playground. If you're looking to get out of the office, this is a great spot to bring the laptop and do some work (while working on your tan). The WiFi here is free! Ever since Equator opened their space here a few years back, it's really helped galvanize Magnolia Street. Downtown Larkspur suddenly feels like a really cool place to visit. In many ways, it now feels like a less pretentious Mill Valley. I can't wait to come back for a refill for my belly and soul. read more

Equator coffee is my favorite buy to use at home. When I'm out, the Larkspur store is my favorite because of uniformly great staff, it's next door to boichik bagels, parking lot in the back. Great staff, all baristas serve good coffees. Today, it was nice to see Richard working solo during a rainstorm when the store was jammed and his partner on break. He was taking orders as cashier, making multiple drinks, and putting out coffee while keeping people happy. Sure, everyone is trained the same, and Equator beats the competitors. But, when it gets busy, Richard keeps moving, keeps the whole place moving. read more

I think it's time Equator got some love from me. Honestly, in the past few months, it has been nothing but great. I have seen a few new faces who were friendly and got my drinks right, FINALLY! The Oat milk latte was okay, but I think I'm now a fan of their Oat milk Peppermint Mocha but too bad that it was only seasonal. However, today I tried the new drink " Charcoal London Fog " with oat milk and it was actually pretty good! I would also recommend Overnight oat parfait & Chia Parfait. They were delicious! I hope that they keep up with being awesome like these past few months. I also love that they care about environment like I do. They use compostable products so kudos for that. No frittatas as advertised Made a special trip to lovely Larkspur for breakfast only to learn they "don't have the ingredients" to make a frittata sandwich (although it's on their menu and there's a photo of it on their counter.) It takes forever to get your coffee, moreover, they have a person standing there where the orders come out and she is grumpy. If you try to find your coffee before it's ready, she gets angry then when it's time to get your coffee, she shouts your name and makes you walk over and refuses to walk set up 5 feet to hand you your coffee. pass on this location until they resolve this grumpy woman. Coffee is a straight up 5/5 (especially the vanilla latte), but the baked goods are lacking. I assume they get them from one of the well known bakeries nearby (sorry if this is incorrect) but I've tried quite a few of the baked goods- croissant, morning bun, etc- and they were all just alright. They had the little fluffs that sometimes get stuck on bread and pastries when they are set out, so I had to pick those off. TL; DR coffee is amazing, pastries are average. read more

One thing you can say for sure this place has livened up the action at the south end of Larkpur's commercial area. Prior to Equator things got very quiet down there, and the only place to get an espresso was Rulli. Then there was the quality of the product which was much superior to chain coffee joints. And on weekends the social scene combined locals wandering in mixed with spando-bikers chatting away about something or other related to their ride. All was good, and I should have written this back then when things were new. At the time I mainly wondered why it took this business' owner (whoever that may be) so long to be figured this one out. Now I wonder if that same owner will figure out that s/he has to keep up with the growth of this business before its very success ruins it. Add more service people. Backshelf some of those complex coffee drinks that take so much time when most people just want a basic latte or cappucino. And finally learn how to make those drinks taste like a cup of coffee with milky overtone rather than a cup of warm milk with coffee overtone. Rulli knows how. read more

Equator Coffee is one of my go-to coffee shops. All of their blends are very smooth and taste great. If I see vendors carrying their blend in the city, I'd have Equator over any other blend any day. Their Mocha Java Blend is such a treat. The Larkspur location has an adorable atmosphere as it's located right beside Perry's, under a patch of redwoods. The Mill Valley location is very quaint too. The only downside to both locations are they are small so there isn't much work space if you want to hang out for awhile. Also, this place is always popping so you're lucky to find a seat! I'm hoping one day they'll open a location in San Rafael since that's where their headquarters are. Fingers crossed! read more

I have loved getting coffee at Equator during the pandemic. The ordering window and outdoor delivery of my order made me feel really safe there. And the coffee is great. The outdoor seating works well enough. They are now back to indoor service and I think this is premature given the daily rise in Covid cases (25% in vaccinated people). The Delta variant should concern us all. I will be less likely to stop by now. I'm hoping for a reconsideration of plans? read more

The espresso drinks here come out beautifully with swans or hearts. My issue is that I have come several times but the coffee just tastes okay. The other morning I had a cup of black coffee that tasted very bad; almost like from a continental breakfast in a motel. The cortado I had ordered also tasted very bitter. Maybe the baristas need to taste their shots more? Hard to know why it consistently comes out this way at least in the past week. And why would a cup of coffee from such a good shop taste so bad? I dont live near here but this seems to be the only "serious" coffee shop in the area so bummer. Update: I should have been more clear that it is still a sweet spot to go and have a coffee. Maybe it is just not to my taste. But I received a very kind message from the owner saying they will address the issues above. I definitely will give it another try when I return to town. I love Equator coffee shops. Drinks are good. Service is good. I work remotely and recently moved into the area so I wanted to try different coffee shops, it wasn't the best for long hours of work. There were no wall plugs for chargers that I could see and the seating both inside and outside wasn't very conducive to long hours of work in my opinion. I definitely got a little uncomfortable after being there for a couple hours. But I saw a lot of people come and go just to meet friends family and for that I think it was amazing. read more
