Just a quick stop at Peet's Coffee as my partner in crime and I decided to venture out early to Muir Woods for a great hike...but who doesn't need coffee before an early hike? Not me! I need a strong cup of coffee! Peet's is pretty uniform in menu and quality. While they don't have heavy whipping cream on their milk/sugar station, they will happily add some to your coffee. It's behind the counter. Just ask. :) This location is shared with many other businesses but there was plenty of parking. We found the perfect spot. I normally have great experiences here with consistently great drinks and service but I recently had a strange experience. I had just gotten off shift and had ordered a drink. I kept my mask on while ordering, waiting and then mistakenly pulled it down to take a sip. Then pulled it back up. The young lady making the drink freaked out and I received a lecture on safety for all. I apologized and explained, "I wasn't thinking, I was just checking the taste." The lecture continued and I finally turned to her and explained, " I was fully vaccinated and I am aware about Covid safety and protocol considered my occupation!" I was embarrassed this happened in front of two co-workers and considered never returning to this store. Everyone is deeply concerned about Covid, but treating someone as a mass spreader for slipping my mask down to try their drink doesn't qualify. I am a long-time Peet's customer. Have been for years. But this store is the worst. It always takes FOREVER to get a drink as this location seems to be chronically understaffed. Today I stopped in to grab a coffee before a meeting at 10:25ish, not the first morning rush hour for coffee. I ordered, paid and literally ended up walking out without my drink because they had one barista working and she seemed to be focused on the mobile orders. In addition to the app constantly being a problem every time Peet's decides to upgrade it (upgrade, what a joke), I'm fed up. I love this Peet's location. There is an adequate amount of both indoor and outdoor seating, and it is warm and bright. The only thing I wish they didn't do was the all gender restrooms. My sister generously gave me a gift card to Peet's for Christmas and I wanted to put it to use on this chilly December night. I was coming from the gym so I stopped by the Bon Air Center location to get my late evening fix. I wanted something without caffeine so I got a small peppermint tea. It came way too piping hot for me to enjoy for at least 15 minutes while it cooled, but it was great for warming the soul after a long workout. The WiFi was supposedly limited to only 1 hour but I didn't have much trouble keeping it going much longer. The nice thing about this location is that it has a ton of dog-friendly outdoor seating. Considering that the entire center is dog-friendly, this is a huge plus for the community of walkers that come through every day. There's tons of parking available so it's never a problem! This used to be a great Peet's years ago before they remodeled. The baristas were friendly and knew what they were doing and the store had a warm, neighborhood feeling. The men's crew team used to hang out here after morning practice. It seemed more like a pub where everyone knew each other, at the very least by sight, if not also by name. Today I walked in and there were 4 counter people working. I noticed I had a coupon for a discount on beans so I stood by the beans counter as the only person waiting to be served. The barista behind the counter was filling a bag so I waited until he had finished. He finished filling the bag and while I waited, he filled 3 more. I gave up waiting and moved to the coffee line since no one was in it. My new barista was a newbie, which is fine, but she was reluctant to ask for help when she needed it. I could see why when the first two baristas she asked abruptly told her they couldn't help her and walked away. Finally the remaining barista in the store came over and helped her with the transaction. To buy beans and a cappuccino took about 20 minutes and left me feeling frustrated and annoyed. read more

I've been to this place for years. For the past year or so, I noticed the quality of coffee is getting worse. A simple latte is sometimes bitter (burned taste) and the milk is not consistent. Also, it seems like the steamed milk in a latte is being heat up in microwave- that's what it tastes like (no texture or nicely foamed.) In a busy time, I saw baristas made many jugs of steamed milk and let them sitting there; by the time they got the coffee done, the milk was not hot. In addition, this place seems to have high turnovers recently. In the morning, when it is busy, it looks so chaotic and messy. Having said that the staff has always been nice. I've been observing this particular Peets off and on for the past seven years, and some recent return visits showed that this location continues to usually be overcrowded. I can't say it necessarily has the best use of space, with the orders in one quadrant of the rectangle shaped store, and then the other half devoted to a seating and waiting area, with spillover from customers anticipating their drinks. Perhaps it is cozier in the warmer months of the year, when customers can enjoy the large spread of outside tables, but not too many people were doing that in December/January in California! Nonetheless, the drinks and baked goods continue to maintain the company's standards of high quality and tastiness. It was good to see the particular selection of scones and muffins in place, as the chain offers slightly different (more "localized") varieties of those items if you visit a location outside the Bay Area. read more

Consistently slow service. The staff don't take any sense of ownership for the wait or lack of enjoyment in their service. Training or refreshing staff on a commitment of time to customers wait is important. You stand to lose people who would resort to other coffee brands. It's not like Peet's is the only desirable brand. Therefore the customer service and wait should be addressed. If there is a line of multiple people then no one should be prepping coffee grounds they should both be on the registers. I won't settle for average when coffee is $5+ each visit. I think this can be corrected. Mind you, there are lots of elder aged people in this area but that shouldn't have to compromise the wait and service. Get it together. This store has continuously gone down hill. A new facelift doesn't change the quality. read more

Don't ever come to this Peets location. They use a little push button coffee machine LOL!!!! I caught the guy the first time and seemed embarrassed. He said they use it during crowded lunch hour. I made him use the REAL machine. I went in today no other customers. I ordered 4 shots SHORT PULL. Then I saw him start using the little push button machine. I walked out. I love this Peet's. Right next to Molly Stones, a perfect place to stop for a coffee free Vanilla Freddo with extra whipped cream (yum!), or on colder days, a vanilla latte. Their eggnog lattes were just fantastic-- perfectly frothy foam on the top with a smooth espresso finish at the end. Love, love, love. I adore James. Every single time I have walked through the doors of this coffee shop, he is smiling. How welcoming a simple smile from a genuine person can be. Perfect compliment to the best coffee around. Some of the best customer service/experience I've ever had! I'm normally a "local roaster" kind of guy, but after a year of ordering the same thing every day and them still not knowing my name or my order, it was a pleasant surprise to have both recognized by half the cashiers at this Peet's from just a few weeks of randomly popping in when it was more convenient. I found the coffee consistency and the way above average service (in fact, I can't think of one that rivals it) to be worth making it one of my most frequented coffee stops. I'll mention that this place gets very busy, more so as the day goes on it seems, which adds to the impressiveness when they nail it, and makes it understandable when it's just 'regular' good service. read more

This is a very nice example of the Pete's franchise. I am a semi regular here. The baristas are all very friendly and greet you with a smile. There is always a line but the staff is very efficient at cranking out the orders. They are fast and the drinks are always quite good, My black tie was perfect as always. They have a nice little display of treats at the front counter if you need a snack with your coffee. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is Peet's discontinued my favorite breakfast sandwich which was a sweet potato biscuit with egg and sausage. This rating is for Peet's in Greenbrae. One star is too much, 000 would have been more appropriate. We have been going to this place for many years, so we are repeat customers. Needless to say we are never going back to Peet's in Greenbrae, or any Peet's since the coffee sunk its quality. Lately things has gone downhill regarding service, attitude towards customers and quality of the coffee and how the drink is made. We ordered our drinks, gave a good tip, waited for 30 min., didn't say anything or complain. Finally I went over and asked politely if the drinks are coming up soon. The person behind the coffemachines looks over quickly at me asked the name, which I gave him. He looked at the list on the screen and said: "It's coming up now. Went back and waited 10 more min. nothing. The cashier saw us still there so he asked me if we are still waiting. I went up to him and said " yes, we are still waiting for the coffee". Then the fellow that earlier said that our coffee is coming up, all of a sudden decides he is going to lie and said he called out our name long time ago. We both disagree, we had been sitting right there and waiting. Anyway, we got our drinks that tasted awful, agreed this was a very bad experience and that we would NEVER come back to a Peet's coffee shop again. I, personally have been buying and drinking Peet's since aprox. 1986. Poor, rude and dishonest service, drove me/us away forever. Coffee-quality poor also. Now I'm a Peet's guy through and through, but never have a seen a place where the people have been so friendly and the staff actually seems like they like being there! Hot water should cost the same no matter what size. Prices should really reflect how many tea bags come with the tea. If you get a small, there should be only 1 tea bag. If you get a medium, maybe you should get 2 tea bags. Otherwise, why is there a difference in price? And if i buy a large, is it going to come with 3 tea bags? Do I need 3 tea bags? Only if 2 of them go on my eyes. I ordered a small, it came with 2 tea bags. We sat at the window killing time. We fake-celebrity watched. I saw a fake John Cleese and a fake guy-from-Mentalist. In my experiences..... Great Great Coffee. The staff is friendly as hell. So why so many bad reviews.. I doubt it is actually the coffee that concerns you. It was merely the fact that there is always a VERY large line in there, and sometimes it seems that employees are standing around. What does that mean for YOU!? When there is consistently long lines to order coffee, IT MUST BE PRETTY F!@#$%^ GOOD!!! Peet's takes great pride in there work, and the freshness reflects it. Come to enjoy a good cup of coffee like you would a nice dinner. If you need a quick caffeine fix, and can't afford a few minutes in line....Maybe you should plan your time better, or take something to calm you down, as Peets is great, and strong coffee and might make you even more strung out than you already seem...
