Ruby had her first TPLO surgery in August 2025 and the second in October 2025. It was expensive but we're thrilled... we got our Ruby back! I had a very difficult experience with this SAGE emergency vet services, and I feel conflicted…read moreabout how to review them because there were both compassionate and deeply frustrating aspects of my time with them. First, I want to acknowledge that the staff were kind, gentle, and clearly cared about both me and my cat. During an incredibly emotional time, they treated us with empathy, and I'm grateful for that. However, my cat was in renal failure, and I don't feel that I was ever given a clear or honest understanding of how serious her condition truly was. I was repeatedly told that her situation was treatable, particularly once she started eating again. She ended up staying there for three nights, and while I was told she had begun eating at the clinic, when I brought her home she still wasn't eating and was in very poor condition. What's most difficult for me is that she passed away the day after I brought her home, after I had spent nearly $16,000 on her care. Looking back, I strongly wish someone had been more candid with me about her prognosis and whether euthanasia might have been the most humane option. I feel like I wasn't given the information I needed to make an informed decision about her end-of-life care. I don't doubt the compassion of the staff, but I do wish there had been clearer communication and more medical guidance during such a critical time. For anyone going through something similar, I would encourage asking very direct questions about prognosis and quality of life, as I wish I had been guided more firmly in that direction.

My dog, Peaches, was referred to SAGE by her veterinarian in Fresno after she began experiencing…read morebloody discharge from her vulva. Despite their best efforts, her veterinarian was unable to determine the cause because they didn't have the specialized equipment needed to perform an endoscopy and take a closer look. Unfortunately, the earliest appointment available at SAGE was a week away, which I completely understood given the demand for specialty care. In the meantime, Peaches needed immediate attention, so I took her to an emergency veterinary hospital in Fresno. There, they sedated her and discovered a foxtail deeply embedded in her vaginal wall. Although they removed it, they couldn't say with certainty that it was the sole cause of her symptoms and strongly recommended that we keep our appointment with the internist at SAGE. I'll admit that after reading some of the reviews online, I was worried that I might be pressured into unnecessary procedures or expensive treatments. I couldn't have been more wrong. From the moment we arrived, I was impressed. SAGE truly operates like a full-service hospital, with the equipment and specialists needed to address complex medical issues all under one roof. Most importantly, the care and professionalism we received were exceptional. Dr. Miller was absolutely amazing. He came into the room already familiar with Peaches' medical history and had clearly taken the time to thoroughly review her records before meeting us. That level of preparation immediately put me at ease. After examining Peaches, Dr. Miller explained that she appeared to be in very good health. He discussed the option of performing additional diagnostic procedures to investigate further and provided a detailed cost estimate. While the procedure was expensive, it was understandable given its complexity. What I appreciated most was his honesty. He told us that, based on her exam and improvement, he didn't feel additional procedures were necessary at that time. Instead, he recommended monitoring her closely and reassured us that if the bleeding returned, we could contact him directly and he would make himself available. His honesty, transparency, and genuine concern for Peaches meant so much to me. Rather than pushing unnecessary testing, he helped us make an informed decision that was truly in our dog's best interest. We also discussed some ongoing digestive issues Peaches has experienced over the years. Dr. Miller offered helpful recommendations, sent us home with food samples to try, and even offered to write a prescription should we decide to switch her diet. As pet parents, we all want veterinarians who are knowledgeable, compassionate, and honest. Dr. Miller and the entire team at SAGE exceeded my expectations in every way. I am incredibly grateful for the care they provided to my sweet Peaches. Thank you, Dr. Miller and the entire SAGE team!

    * We rushed our dog to Sage Emergency in Dublin after he choked on a dental treat that got stuck…read more The X-rays showed that it was lodged at the junction between his esophagus and stomach. Dr. Beth Lieblick assessed everything quickly and chose the least invasive option first. After anesthesia, she was able to push the blockage down into his stomach so he could digest it naturally instead of going straight to a major surgery. Our dog stayed overnight for monitoring and came home the next morning safe and stable. Communication was clear the entire time, and the team was professional, calm, and genuinely kind during a very stressful situation. * In terms of cost, this is emergency care, so it is expensive. The initial diagnostic alone was around 1300 dollars. With bloodwork, X rays, anesthesia, the procedure, overnight monitoring, and medications, the estimate initially went up to 14000 dollars. The final total ended up being about 6600 dollars after adjustments. Even knowing emergency care costs more, it is still a financial shock when you are facing a possible life threatening situation for a family member. * We are giving 4 stars. The doctor and team absolutely deserve recognition for their professionalism and friendliness. The only reason we are taking off one star is the price. While we understand emergency care is costly, the numbers can feel overwhelming. Our advice is to get pet insurance if possible. If a bill in the thousands or potentially over ten thousand would be difficult, it is worth researching emergency options ahead of time. For us, what mattered most is that our family member came home safe.

They provided critical care when our frenchie overheated, aspirated and got pneumonia. She wasn't going to make it, and yet she pulled through under their care. It led to a successful BOAS surgery at SAGE later that month. We got an extra four amazing years with her as a result. They recently assisted us with diagnosing some scary symptoms. We unfortunately weren't able to fix it this time - it was out of our control. SAGE was right there with us providing medical advice, offering patience as we navigated the emotions, and offering support when we had our last moments with our girl. So heartbreaking, yet so thankful for their care. They're an invaluable addition to the community - from the nice folks at the front desk, to the nurses, doctors and surgeons. After all our pup went through there, she was still so excited to walk through their doors and greet the staff. Thank you, SAGE team.

They worked up an estimate that was quite large. The estimate had a low end and high end numbers. Veronica sat with me and explained each charge along with how and when it may apply. We played around with the numbers to help us fit it within an easier budget. Veronica was very thorough, patient and informative. My baby was sick so we had to do something. I left my pet with them to be treated while hospitalized. Unfortunately, I did not know exactly how sick she was. Within a matter of a short period, diagnostics came in with not so good news that left us with two options. Neither of which I was prepared for. After hearing the extent of my babies sickness, it was evident we needed to set her free. As painful as those words and that decision was, it had to be done. We drove back to that hospital to be with our baby. Sage has a special room just for the letting go process. Although we were not ready to say goodbye, we appreciated the quick return on labs and such, that gave us the answers needed to make the right decision for our girl. If you have been trying and struggling to piecemeal answers for your ill pet, I'd suggest going to this one stop shop. They have the doctors, staff, equipment and specialists on hand to get you the answers your pet and your family deserves. We love you Tabitha and miss you greatly. Instead of acting quickly, the receptionist was incredibly rude and told me to wait for a nurse just to decide "if they could stay or not." I ended up waiting for over 40 minutes. While I was waiting, three other clients walked in, and all of their animals were taken back to see a nurse immediately. When I questioned the staff about this, they claimed the other animals were emergencies. How are 4 starved and dehydrated kittens not considered an emergency? What makes this worse is that this place is supposed to work with local animal shelters, yet they couldn't care less about these rescue animals when it actually mattered. It felt like because these were rescues and I wasn't a standard high-paying client, they didn't want to bother helping them. A veterinary hospital should care about saving animal lives, regardless of where they came from. The lack of care, terrible communication, and rude behavior at the front desk are completely unacceptable. Avoid this place if you actually have a real emergency.

They kept my dog in an oxygen tank overnight and the next day advised us that she would not make it. I understand that vets advise humane euthanasia but they shouldn't guilt trip the patient's owners into it. Also please know how your pets act because vets and vet techs don't know them as much as you do! Our dog usually pants heavily and gets really anxious and the vets perceived it as her struggling to breathe and even kept advising us that euthanasia was the only way. We opted to bring her home and get a second opinion with her primary vet (who advised us that she was still bright and alert and needed treatment, not euthanasia!) Her primary vet also saw red flags with all the different medication she was given and obviously would cause her body to react negatively. We could have lost her that day to euthanasia but thank goodness we followed our instinct and brought her home. It's been 5 days now and she's starting to eat and drink and get her strength back. When it's time - they will let you know. Humane euthanasia is beneficial, yes. But know how your pets are and always get a second opinion if you're not sure!

My pup was clearly very agitated, and I noticed there were several patients in the waiting room. I thought it would be best for everyone if I stayed by the entrance. She was incredibly understanding and immediately offered to triage my pup right where we were, which I truly appreciated. Once they discovered what was wrong, everything moved very quickly, and I was understandably very distraught and emotional. During that stressful moment, she showed such kindness and compassion--she even offered us bottled water. It may seem like a small gesture, but it meant so much to us and made a difficult situation a little more manageable. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Dr. To and Nurse Mei for their swift action as soon as they identified what was wrong with my pup, Mia. Their urgency, professionalism, and compassion made all the difference during such a frightening time. They also allowed my partner and me to remain by Mia's side throughout her treatment, which meant so much to us. Dr. To continually reassured us that Mia was going to be okay, answering all of our questions with patience and kindness. We truly felt heard and supported every step of the way. I would also like to thank the entire team involved in Mia's care. From the day shift staff who worked hard to start her IV, to Nurse Mei for making sure Mia was kept warm and comfortable, to the night shift team led by Dr. Wong for seamlessly taking over her care--everyone showed incredible dedication. A special thank you as well to the gentleman nurse who assisted with Mia's discharge this morning. We have a great local Vet in Oakland, but when my sweet cattle…read moredog boy Dingo started projectile vomiting and had scary bloody diarrhea we needed urgent help. We called our regular vet, and with it being a Friday afternoon they had no available appointments. Totally understandable, we were referred to an emergency clinic in Berkeley. The traffic in that direction to berkley was terrible, and by this point my poor dog is shaking and pooping blood. My coworker from Pacifica, overheard my panic as I was on the phone at work with my husband who was with our sick dog frantically trying to find an emergency clinic, suggested VEG veterinary emergency group. She said she had heard great things and took her sick pup there, from Pacifica to San Ramon based on others glowing recommendations of them. I instructed my husband to rush to San Ramon, while I called veg to give them a heads up on my dog being rushed in. By this point, I'd called multiple other "emergency" pet clinics and was frustrated with the lack of appointments (and empathy). I called VEG fully expecting to get turned away and I was pleasantly surprised with how Wonderful, supportive and helpful the front desk gal was. She calmly heard me out, understood that I was at work my husband was in the car speeding towards them with a vomiting shaking, mess of a dog. She texted me an intake form to fill out. And told me not to worry and that they would be ready to help my husband and dog as soon as they came through the door. This place has pet emergencies dialed in. My husband said as soon as he came in, they greeted him and my dog dingo by name and took them in side and seen by a vet FAST. They quickly administered IV hydration, gave him anti nausea and anti diarrheal. They took blood for tests and X-rays ( or ultrasound I'm not sure) to check for blockages. My husband was blown away by the open lobby and the efficacy and compassion. Thankfully seems like our Boy will live to see another day, he's feeling much much better. And we now have a go to location for any pet emergencies. Don't hesitate on driving here from anywhere in the Bay Area for an animal emergency. They are worth the drive and the money. I will say it was not a cheap visit but given the circumstances the care and the efficiency was well worth every single penny. This place is great. Thank you so much VEG. The best in pet emergencies
