I found this place while driving around looking for a place to eat. I saw many cars in their parking lot and figured that was a good indicator so I gave them a try. I've been back many times since. This is the worst Thai food I've ever had: the vegetables don't seem particularly fresh, they just steam everything (nothing seems fried, stir fried, or particularly well cooked) - and the sauces are something anyone could make themselves, and not flavorful by any stretch of the imagination. I don't think that the pad thai is very overwhelming, but I've found that the other dishes have been quite good! Like a lot of other folks here, I can't say enough good things about the Erawan. This is the best Thai food I have had in metro Syracuse so far, and that includes the Lemon Grass, a much pricier restaurant in the tony Armory Square area of downtown Syracuse. The only place I have eaten locally that even came close to this is no longer in business, The Authentic Thai Restaurant formerly in Mattydale. The decor certainly wets my appetite (NOT). Despite my reaction to the aesthetics, the food is delectable. There are tons of options, so if you're a person who has trouble deciding what to eat, this menu is certainly going to make you think for a while. I know, crazy, huh, that Syracuse would be the home to one of my favorite Thai places... but it is. The food is not really authentic Thai but most people who have never been to Thailand wouldn't know the difference. In general, they are not well organized and it's not uncommon to wait as long as an hour even when you have a reservation. They nickel and dime customer for the least little thing such as an added fee for extra rice, hot peppers, or peanut sauce. They've even been seen putting unused rice from customers back into the rice cooker. A much better alternative for real authentic Thai food is the Little Thai House across the street. read more

My mother comes here regularly but this was my first time. I ordered the number 43?, which is white rice, peppers and chicken. And she got the pad Thai. I've been missing out. As minimal as the meal was for me, it was pretty tasty. And large portions. I was a little shocked at the price until I actually got the food. A large dish with rice and a plate full of chicken and peppers. I'm eating my leftovers now and they're still tasty. I like spicy but I ordered it medium because I wasn't sure of the spice. Would definitely get the extra hot next time( for those who really like spicy). The pad Thai portions were huge and tasty. Our host was very nice and accommodating and funny. My mother was in a sling and he offered to pack her food up even though he didn't have too. The dining room was what I expected with art on the wall that represented the culture. The food is good, however, I will never go there again. I was made to feel like we were an inconvenience. Every one was surly and apathetic. Not once did we get a smile or a hello. We were actually chastised for going to the wrong table (that the first cranky girl pointed out for us to go to) because there was a civil seating war going on and we were in the middle of it. The service here has never been the greatest and on the latest trip, the fiance and I sat at our tables without a menu for 10 minutes while the two servers merrily cleaned adjoining tables, and just hung around happy to ignore us. More than half the joint was empty mind you. At this point we decided to walk out of there and drive across the street to Thai Flavor. It was slightly more expensive but we received excellent service and it seemed as though the people running the place genuinely valued our business. My go to dish is pad woo sen -- and I appreciate how they will increase the spice/heat at your request. I read some reviews on the Yelp. And finally, I went there with friends who are crazy about Thai noodle. Basically, I am not the person who loves to leave bad reviews on Yelp. When I had bad experience, I used to keep the silence. However, for Erawan, I would like to add my review. We were so much disappointed with them. We didn't understand why Yelpers gave them high grade. Its quality was low and the atmosphere of the restaurant was old and dirty. Moreover, their service was extremely bad. Actually, our waitress was so rude. As what Dan said, next time, I will read the reviews more carefully. It is definitely over rated don't go Erawan. You will waste your money. read more

Used to go there years ago and loved it but recently returned with some friends and was greatly disappointed. Food was not only not fresh, some of it was actually rancid. Rice was like chinese sticky rice when jasmine rice was promised. Service was non-existent. We had to actually get up and go to the register to get drink refills because no one ever came back ofter dropping off food. 2 of us were even sick the next day.
