So I've passed this place MANY times and just never thought to go in. Not sure why, but the bf wanted fried pickles and they had them. So we went and I'm SO glad we did. Went on a weekday at lunch time. Somewhat busy during that time, but there are a few ways to get into the bar/restaurant. Pretty much seat yourself unless you have a bigger group which they can accommodate. We seat near the kitchen. I don't like sitting at the bar when I'm eating for some reason. Just a flex I have. Ordered a cup of sausage and chicken gumbo AND MOUTH FILLED WITH FLAVOR. I will say it was just tasty enough but I also added a little hot sauce to it. Of course, had to get the fried pickles and these bad boys come in a huge basket full and a side of ranch. I ordered the chicken bacon ranch wrap (ranch on the side) and my bf ordered the urban cowboy burger which is a burger with bbq and bacon - YUM! Coming back from the convention center we needed a quick place to grab lunch, and being our first day in New Orleans, we really wanted something that screamed southern food. I wish I wasn't on my way back to a meeting because the beer prices were on point--not something you'd ever see back home. We checked in on Yelp to take advantage of the free fried pickles, which were amazing. I think we did a good job of picking around the jalapenos--I wouldn't have even gotten the peppers if I had the option, the pickle chips were crisp and tasted pretty perfect. Service was a little slow, it was definitely your typical sticky high top, and we had to flag someone down to get the check at the end of the night. The po boys were fine--not special in any way but still did taste good. The fries needed more salt and a little more time in the fryer. They got cold very quickly after coming to the table and tasted cold and soggy pretty quickly. read more

Such a cool spot! I'm sure this place is well known for the cheap drinks they have, but don't let that make you think it isn't a nice location with great service! We needed a list minute place to watch the Super Bowl and Ernst had plenty of outdoor seating. During Mardi Gras the beers are super cheap and the service was quick for the bar. We had some trouble with getting our appetizers in a timely manner but soon found out there was a mix-up in the kitchen which was quickly remedied with delivery of the food. I ordered chicken tenders and fries. The tenders were huge and juicy, I ended up giving one to my husband because it was such a large portion, but so delicious! He ordered the shrimp po'boy which he promptly devoured. We had arrived in town early before a conference and once my colleagues arrived we immediately took them to Ernst's for beers. Stopped into Ernst after being around but not being in for a very long time. Ernst is one of the oldest bars in NOLA and the CBD area. Awful food! Went here on Friday evening with another couple. The house white wine was hot and cheap. The egg rolls were cold and had to be sent back. The chicken salad had dry jerky like chicken. The red beans had been watered down. Go somewhere else! read more

So we actually ended up here on accident I went to Manning's but they said they had no seating available was hungry so we just stopped in here . Seated ourselves and we were attended to really quickly. We stopped in for an early dinner 8/12/23 for some "authentic" NOLA food before our cruise the next day. Their beer prices were very reasonable, but we had trouble getting our waiter's attention to get a second one. Most of our food was acceptable, except for my red beans and rice, which I was so looking forward to. I ordered the "large" serving, which came with one ice cream scoop sized serving of rice, and about 3/4 cup or red beans, which looked like they came out of a can, and a small slice of french bread, for $14. The red beans and rice from Popeye's is very similar. Our other food choices, chicken jambalaya and chicken sandwich were good, but again, the portions were on the small side. They were thoughtful enough to automatically add a 20% tip to our bill without mentioning it. I took it off because we usually cash tip. Then, we decided to purchase a t-shirt and add it to our ticket, and they tried adding the 20% tip back onto the ticket! How deceitful! Would we go back? This a local spot, not a tourist trap kind of place. The bartenders are very friendly and the place has a laid back neighborhood bar vibe. The waitress, Lisa, was a riot, I loved her. They make a really good roast beef poboy. I had another in NOLA and it wasn't half as good as theirs. I did try the sazerac for the first time here and I don't know if it was how they mixed, or if this is just what a sazerac is normally, but to me they should've just called it a double whiskey.
