We had 2 orders of gumbo that came out 20 minutes apart red beans and rice had completely uncooked rice and was inedible. The "andouille sausage" with the red beans was literally one half inch round slice.

Decent spot. Lunch was okay. Everything from the service, to the food, to the ambience was just okay. The gumbo was pretty bland. The red beans were also pretty plain. The boudin balls were mushy and kind of lame. Probably not a great day in the kitchen. Even our server recognized that. My wife's salad was missing tomatoes and other things listed in the menu. We won't return.

I really liked this place. I was in New Orleans to watch my Niners beat the Saints, and this place was close to my hotel. First, coming from California, I fell in love with the prices of their beers. How? How can they charge $2.50 for a Corona or Modelo? Who cares? Load me up. I stopped by each night I was there. Every bartender was super friendly and attentive. The food was good. I had the red beans n rice, the gumbo, and the jambalaya. If I'm ever back on town, I will definitely stop by.

Friendly bartenders and good food, what more do you want from a neighborhood bar. I went here originally because it was rainy and it was close to my hotel near the convention center. Downstairs was a bit of a cluster so I dined upstairs where you order at the bar and they bring the food to you. The Gumbo was excellent and I'd get it again for sure. Same with the shrimp po boy which was loaded with crispy shrimp and excellent bread. The waffle fries were great too. I went back for a drink on a different night as they had Hoop Tea, which is the best canned hard iced tea if you ask me (and you didn't). Later in the night some dealers from the casino trickled in after their shifts so it seems like a good place that locals love too. If you're thinking about going to Mannings, consider Ernst Cafe right across the street. You'll at least get served.

We attempted to go to Ernst Cafe three times while in NOLA. 2 out of 3 times were successful and the second visit was the most impressive experience, during the day, right at lunch, not too long after they opened on a Friday afternoon. Their door states that they are open until 2 AM, but upon experience, they will close early if business is slow and they stop serving food after midnight, which was a major disappointment on my third visit. On our first visit, we attempted to come around 1 AM on Friday morning and another customer informed us that they were closed. On the third visit, we came a few minutes after midnight, and I was disappointed when I found out that we could only order drinks. Now to talk about my good experience(s). 1) Cheap drinks, especially for the beer lovers. They have a drink menu with a list of spirits that range from $1.50 - $7 and the variety is great. I am not much of a beer drinker, but noticed they carried spiked teas, wine and seltzers for the ladies to give them something to sip on for a low price. These were year round prices. 2) Good cocktails for a fair price. My Tito's Lemon Drop was $10 and tasted GREAT. I ended up ordering two. 3) Good fresh food during lunch. We ordered a large shrimp poboy and split the honey habanero appetizer with fries and jalepeno slaw. The food was so good that we planned on coming back later that night since they stayed open late, BUT they stopped serving food at midnight (I was so disappointed). 4) Happy Hour specials from 4-6 PM, they have 50% off of the well spirits, so some things are $4. Overall, this is a great place to stop in for drinks and food before midnight! I liked the food and service. I would return if in the area.

Such a fun spot! We came here with a group of about 40 while on vacation and had a great time. We sat on the balcony, where we were able to move the TV and space heaters to make it warm and comfortable even on a cold day. The shrimp were pretty good, and the beers were only $1.50. I'd definitely visit again. Service was great. The shrimp were delicious though small.

One of the older bars in the Fulton Alley. Looks run down if you've never been there but it looks exactly like it should if you wanna be in a New Orleans Bar. Food is average but good. Nothing bad about service but it's a bar... so don't expect white glove service. Will always come back here! Good times!

I visited the Ernst Cafe for a hosted reception as part of a conference and it was one of my favorite dining experiences of my trip. We were taken upstairs to the event space, which was open and spacious, with a beautiful wraparound balcony. There was a nice selection of drinks, and some amazing local fare- the roast beef po'boy as my favorite, but we also enjoyed fish and shrimp po'boys, a beautiful veggie platter and selection of sausages (andouille, gator and crawfish,) as well as crawfish cornbread. Everything was amazing and nicely portioned so that we could try a little bit of everything. The dining space downstairs looked fun, and the atmosphere was great all around. Wonderful experience.

Came here to watch a football game and have some drinks. It was a Saturday night so they had music over the speakers and we weren't able to hear the game. That's fine as it's not a sports bar. I ordered Fried Pickles, Gumbo and Wings. Fried pickles were ok - I love that they have fried jalapenos mixed in. The gumbo was ok but there were bits of overcooked rice in it so every bite had crunchy rice. I'm not sure if it was just bottom of the pan rice or old rice - not a fan. The wings were pretty good. Service was ok. Overall, ok.

The location was convenient to the Fillmore which is the concert venue inside Harrah's casino. We found a spot on the upstairs balcony to hang and eat before a concert in April (2024). Weather was great. Food was good! We all had the waffle fries with our meals. I had a roast beef po'boy. My husband had fried shrimp po'boy and our friend had a burger. Service was okay. It's more like a bar upstairs so don't expect a waitress to wait on you. Go into the bar and order (though they did bring our food to us). For casual, sandwich food, I'd go there again. read more

Food was pretty bland (crab cake sandwich, gumbo, pulled pork). Waitperson reactive as opposed to proactive: checked on us once (place wasn't terribly busy); we had to wave them over if we needed something (eg, more water). Plenty of TVs, tho, for sports. read more

Total rip off I was staying at a hotel a block away from this place, I walked over to order soup to go. I paid 14 for a bowl of soup that was supposed to be large instead they gave two small bowls that were half a cup. Each I feel 100% ripped off I showed the front desk who suggested this place they were a bit shocked. Met friends there for drinks. We ordered beers, and they would not dress one when asked. They also had a less than friendly attitude. We sat outside on a beautiful day! The waitress made a suggestion to order the wings, and she was right. 5 came out smelling "spicy," but they were delicious with slight kick. Saturday morning bunch , we where so amazed. The waitress was so sweet, and recommended the red beans and rice. I can actually say the red beans and rice , where the best thing I have ever eaten. The other things ordered was the jambalaya with blackened grilled chicken , and the southwestern egg rolls, breakfast tacos. And that jalapeño sauce was very good also. Welp...two colleagues and I stopped in midday on a Saturday and found ourselves an outside table. Waitress stopped by after a couple minutes and took drink orders. Coke Zero was bubbly and my friends shared that their blackberry and hurricane drinks were delicious...like sucking the straw when there was nothing left kind of delicious Table got a cesar salad, wings, Urban Cowboy Burger, and Burnt Ends Bbq Pork Sandwich. My table mates enjoyed their food. My Burnt Ends Bbq Pork Sandwich was delicious! Pork was tender and the lettuce, tomato, and bun were fresh. Waffles fries sufficed, as they were cooked and warm. We were sitting outside and while there is no control by Ernst over the surrounding noise, our table allowed us to listen and watch folks going by and yet have a pleasant table volume conversation. This was our first stop after getting to New Orleans and it did not disappoint for Louisiana/Creole food! We wandered over to the restaurant and saw a lot of people outside, and figured it would be good, but finding a table was hard and we had to clean it ourselves as servers seemed sparse and busy moving in and out of the cafe. We ordered an Ernst Gumbo Bowl, Jambalaya, and a Fried Fish Po'boy and they were all super flavorful and satisfying, and took about 15 minutes to come out. We also got 3 white tea shots which were fantastic. Given the proximity of this place to our hotel, I would definitely stop by again! read more

It's a quite spot on Fulton walking distance from my hotel. I went thee randomly and the bar tender heather was super nice had a Moscow mule not in a copper mug but I survived lol I ordered the fried green tomatoes and well I got more then expected it came with 5 shrimp and an amazing sauce on top I scarfed them down like t was my last meal!! If anything I would say give me 5 tomorrow's and 5 shrimps !!! Yumm read more

My bowl of gumbo was delicious but luke warm. Considering how long we waited you would have thought it would have been hotter. The restaurant didn't appear busy at all but our server only came back to our table at the very end of our meal. Price point was okay we paid $7 for a small serving of gumbo and 2 small pieces of bread. I was still hungry after. Next time I'm definitely getting the large serving. The large serving was $11. read more

Finally got around to trying this place on our most recent trip in December! The food was good, your typical bar food. Super quick service and friendly staff! We decided to just pop in after another restaurant we were going to had over a 90 min wait because it was a game day. We got sat immediately and were out of there in less than an hour! Found this place by accident on our trip to NOLA. We wanted to try the Abita beers and at $2 a pop, you can't beat it. We tried the boudin balls the Mac and cheese and the loaded fries. The boudin balls favorite. Such a cool place with outdoor seating. The service is great! read more

Ok, I had been here once about a year ago and thought it was just fine, but we've been back a few times in the last several weeks and it's such a great casual spot! Wonderful service too! First off, $1 beers?! I don't know how or why, but it's amazing. They have basic domestics and a few local beers for $1, imports and some nicer locals for $2, and then lk more specialty beers for $3. Such a steal! The bar food is also on point. We have tried the fried pickles (chip style), and they recently threw in fried jalapeños with it for a spicy flare! You can still ask for them original style without jalapeños though. The boudin bombers were good but a little small (we are hungry people, haha). And the loaded creole nachos were flipping awesome!! read more

So I've passed this place MANY times and just never thought to go in. Not sure why, but the bf wanted fried pickles and they had them. So we went and I'm SO glad we did. Went on a weekday at lunch time. Somewhat busy during that time, but there are a few ways to get into the bar/restaurant. Pretty much seat yourself unless you have a bigger group which they can accommodate. We seat near the kitchen. I don't like sitting at the bar when I'm eating for some reason. Just a flex I have. Ordered a cup of sausage and chicken gumbo AND MOUTH FILLED WITH FLAVOR. I will say it was just tasty enough but I also added a little hot sauce to it. Of course, had to get the fried pickles and these bad boys come in a huge basket full and a side of ranch. I ordered the chicken bacon ranch wrap (ranch on the side) and my bf ordered the urban cowboy burger which is a burger with bbq and bacon - YUM! If you've ever been in a chain hotel lobby, you can probably close your eyes and conjure the carpets. There was lots of seating, though, and it was a comfortable, easy place to hang out. A convenient meeting point even when I did end up leaving the hotel. The bartenders were decent, though it was hard to get their attention when the place was busy. I had a hell of a time paying for my very wise and virtuous afternoon Diet Pepsi. That was the only non-alcoholic beverage I got here. The rest of the conference, I drank draft Abita and bourbon, and several solid Sazeracs, with rye, Herbsaint, Peychaud's bitters, and simple syrup. If you're a tourist in New Orleans, please don't drink at 55 Fahrenheit. Save your time and health for the myriad bars that await you outside the Marriott. But if you're there for a conference with a lot of fun people, grab a Sazerac and sit down.

If I could provide a 10 rating, I definitely would. From the French toast made with the po' boy bread to the shrimp and grits and the crab omelette, my taste buds were so happy. This place is a true gem. I can't wait to come back and try more. Such a great experience.

If I could give this undeniably racist restaurant no stars I would . My experience there was unlike anything else i have ever seen and if you eat here you are supporting discrimination and racism. I was eating here last Saturday night on the 9th when the waiter pulled out a young Hispanic man by his hair telling him "to get the fuck out" . The young man at this point had already been served two glasses of water and food but was immediately rushed out for no reason at all. There was no tension or argument leading up to this waiter kicking this young man out other than his racist and disgusting self views . After the young man refused the waiter grabbed him by his hair and physically pulled him out . When the young man returned to video tape him for his own protection and evidence the waiter began yelling at him to " get the fuck out" when the young man wouldn't 5 other large men some of whom were drunk began swinging at this young man and went so far as to even throw chairs at him. In the middle of all of this the young man dropped his phone so then the waiter proceeded to grab his phone take it back to the bar and laugh and taunt the young man to "come get his phone " from the bar. And I am sure the young man would've if there weren't two middle aged white women holding him back telling him not to go in. I am in complete and utter shock that this happened . I will be reaching out to corporate and whoever else is high up in this shitty restaurants name . This is NOT TOLERABLE and it should t be to me or anyone else. I feel like going back to the restaurant just to get the waiters name . This was flat out RACISM DISCRIMINATION AND A HATE CRIME . read more

The Restaurant That Hates Blacks :( :( :( :( :( :( It was the Absolute Worst I Had Ever Been Treated, It Seemed Like They May have a Disliking Towards Black People, I Guess They were Trying to Give Me There Best Racist Experience ;(. - One Staff Member ( The Only Black Older Guy Working There, Kinda Big Guy) even Shouted and Yelled at me for trying to Pour my Own blue Cheese, when he Didn't Want to Pour it For Me. The Waiters are Mean and The Bartender Lady Has to be Drunk because she Threw My Phone and my Food in the Trash Dumpster Outside. - They Never Apologized Nothing. - My phone had Food and Water Damage Once I had on My Own Found it. - Note it Took me 4 Hours to Find My Phone, the Staff Kept Telling me That My Phone wasn't There which Means They Intentionally Did This on Purpose. Again the Lady Threw My Cooked Food and Phone in the Trash When I Told Her I was Unhappy with the Service, she Grabbed My Food Bag and Trashed it All, without my Permission and I After that Had No Idea what Had Happened to My Phone. - Right Now I'm At Home Crying and Upset Over My Ruined Phone and They Completely Ruined My Feelings and Food. - And Again They Didi Nothing To Make it Better Nothing. Whoever the GM is He Needs To Fire This Staff, Period. - These People are Terrible and have No Empathy nor Integrity. - Once I Got My Phone back the Lady Looked Like who Cares and she said Okay You Can GET OUT of HERE and NOW LEAVE..... read more

My husband and I stopped in after the big saints win to have a drink a play some Golden tee. While my husband was in the restroom, some god awful death metal music started blasting. I asked if the jukebox worked so we could play some songs and i was told that it works but the bartender who apparently thinks he owns the bar, said he picks the music. I asked why we could not PAY to play music in the jukebox, then i was told to leave. I was told there were hundreds of other bars and if i didn't like it then i needed to get out. I asked if the bartender was the owner, which he responded with some other rude derogatory comment. i was so shocked to be talked to this way that I could not even respond. Just for asking to PAY to play some songs?! My husband came out and I told him what happened. He confronted the bartender, who did not know my husband was with me and all of a sudden his whole attitude changed! All of a sudden he was just joking with me?! Before my husband confronted him, i was told by some regulars sitting there that he had been having a bad night and i should be understanding of his AWFUL attitude. Then i was told - oh that's just his sense of humor...give me a break. Obviously this big fella either does not like women much based on the way i was treated. read more

Ernst Cafe is always a good choice. It's an awesome location, situated in the historic Warehouse District of New Orleans, close to the CBD and a few blocks away from the French Quarter. They have a big menu with interesting local choices and classic dishes. Everything I have tried has been really good. There is a full bar with friendly bartenders, but what I like best is the outdoor area: great for people-watching. I have been to Ernst for lunch, dinner and drinks and haven't been disappointed. It's a great place to watch sports--plenty of TVs. I highly recommend Ernst. As a native of New Orleans, I send visitors there all the time! read more

Ernst is one of my favorite spots at the end of Poydras near the casino! The outdoor seating is perfect for hanging out, people-watching, or just enjoying a cocktail or the $1 beer specials. The full bar menu is excellent, and I especially love the fried pickles, naked chicken wings, debris fries, and mozzarella sticks -- all amazing options to pair with great drinks at a fantastic price. The servers are attentive and make sure you're well taken care of, whether you're seated inside or outside. It's my go-to spot after work to relax and have a good time with friends or coworkers. I can't say enough good things about this place. We were in town for the Garth Brooks concert, and ended up here to watch the Tennessee game. The game wasn't on at first, and the kitchen manager went above and beyond to help and accommodate us. The bartender was very attentive and we never had to wait on drinks! I highly recommend this place, the next time we are in New Orleans this is a must stop! read more

I was sent to Ernst due to the slow service of the arcade bar down the street, which I find that the food there is no longer worth the wait after eating at Ernst. I think Ernst food is way better tasting with variety and service wayyy better too than any other bar type restaurants in the area. The roast beef po-boy is wayyyy better than Parkway Tavern. read more

Ernst is one of my favorite spots! The staff and management are superb. I have been enjoying the $1 beer specials they have going on too, and those creole nachos are to die for! If your looking for a locals spot with a great patio/ balcony, this would be the place! read more

The bar floor has Swastika's everywhere. It is disgusting to see this symbols proudly being displayed in the restaurant. Don't support this business. You can find much better food and support a decent business elsewhere. Sad to see this, especially in 2023. read more
