We have done a lot of escape rooms but few in LA. We were going to be in the area so we thought we would leave early and try one of the rooms here at Escape Long Beach. There are two parking spots right in front of the location and both were available when we arrived. There is also plenty of parking on the street very close. When you arrive, you wait outside because the main lobby is actually part of one of the rooms. There is some outdoor furniture and a bench to sit on out front. They monitor the outdoor cameras and will come out and greet you when it is time for your experience. We did "The Queen" room which has a theme of saving lost souls aboard the Queen Mary ship. It is not a scary room at all, it is just dimly lit. It has a split start with one person in the room and one outside which is always an interesting way to begin. The décor is great and after having done 30+ rooms, it is always nice when a place has puzzle types that you have never encountered before which was the case here. The room is mostly non-linear and hints are given via walkie talkie. Our game master Christina was great before, during, and after our experience. She gave us a nudge several times when we asked for help and we were able to escape with five minutes left. I commented on the booking that it was our anniversary and she even gave us a choice of a few gifts afterwards, which was very kind and thoughtful. For only two people, their rooms are on the expensive side at $59 per person. It drops to $38.50 per person with three, and $35 per person with four. We had a good time and will grab a few friends and try "The Lab" room in the future. read more

We had such a great time at Escape Long Beach Escape Rooms! My husband and I did The Lab room with our 10-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son, and it was a perfect mix of challenging and fun for the whole family. We chose to do it on level 2 difficulty out of 3, and with some awesome guidance from our game master Lizzie (who was the absolute BEST!), we managed to escape! Lizzie struck the perfect balance between giving helpful hints and letting us figure things out on our own--she really made the experience extra fun. The room itself was super well-designed with creative puzzles that kept us all engaged. We're already planning to come back and try the Queen Escape Room next. We tried "the Queen" room and had such a fun experience! Originally we were supposed to do the room with four people but one person from our party couldn't make it. Even down one person, we were able to escape with a few minutes to spare! This isn't to say that there weren't any challenges or head scratching moments because there definitely are! The location is unique because your experience happens once you open the door to their building. Because of this, your party will need to wait outside until it's your time to play the game. Bathrooms are available before you go in, you just need to alert a team member and they'll guide you around the building so you don't encounter any spoilers. Lizzy was our game master and she was great with explaining the premise of the room's story and provide any guidance during our escape. The whole beginning of this room is super unique and I won't spoil it but it was very creative how they tied it to the narrative. I love the room's decor and theming. There were various relics and antiques unique to their location that made sense for the time frame they wanted to portray. I really liked the effects of this room as well. I have done both rooms here. I like how you can pick your level of difficulty (1, 2, or 3). I choose level 3 both times because I enjoy the challenge. Although it has been a few months since we did "the queen", so I don't remember much except that I did enjoy it and thought it was well made. Our game master was great but I forgot his name. More recently, I just did "the lab" with our game master lizzy. She was great! She went over the rules and back story of "the lab". I liked how she offered to let us know if we got the puzzle right but can't open the lock because of user error/mechanism failure. She also helped nudge us in the right direction because we did then to overthink one puzzle. As for the room, I expected it to be small because I did the queen. I would say no more than 5 average size adults to be comfortable. However, don't let the size fool you. Plenty of puzzles to solve. We're given 55 minutes to solve and get out. Believe me, we used the majority of that time. I've been to bigger escape rooms and they don't utilize the space well. The lab is definitely more challenging than the queen but both are excellent rooms. Do both! read more

I have done possibly 60+ escape rooms so I believe I have been spoiled with immersive ones. The escape room game has grown as people have moved on from basic and simple locks and keys. My friends and I did the Lab escape room. With this room, you can choose three levels - easy medium, and hard. My friends and I have done a handful and we thought okay maybe medium is a good level for us, not so easy not so hard. It was still hard for us! haha, We did not finish the room, but when the game master was trying to explain to us how to finish the room... she did not really know how to finish it as well as she had to go in and out of the back room to see the answers. I am confused if it was a technical error or? My friends and I will probably give this place another chance. Advice- uber or carpool as there is not a lot of street parking and the actual escape room only has 2 public parking spots. read more

We did The Lab room with a group of 5 with varying levels of past escape room experience and we had a great time. None of the puzzles felt unfair or lazy and there were plenty of parts so that everyone got a chance to work on something and feel like they were contributing. Lots of cool mechanical switches too, so there was the thrill of unlocking different drawers or compartments. One thing I will note that might matter if you're a hardcore escape room junkie is that this place doesn't have any sort of a leaderboard of other teams' past times. That was fine with us but I don't recall seeing mention of it on their website and we didn't find that out until we were getting our orientation right before starting. Not a big deal for most people, but I could see some being disappointed if they didn't know that until they had already paid and arrived. Julia was our host and she was great! Super friendly and charismatic and very gracious with all of our banter and questions to her before and after we did the room. One of the most creative escape rooms I've ever gone to. It has one of the most unique puzzles I've seen, and I've seen quite a bit. Not only does it challenge your cognitive thinking, but it challenges you how to be creative and use your current surroundings. The Lab was outstanding when it came down to intensity, timer is big and bright so you know when to act quick. I was impressed with this escape room! I am always a bit weary of escape rooms that are in a small building and only have two different rooms. Escape Long Beach used their space well! Our host was enthusiastic, a great storyteller, and made our game enjoyable. We had players that never done an escape room to veterans. The rooms are hi-tech so expect more than just solving combo locks and key locks. Parking might be a little tough. They only have two parking spots. However there should be plenty of street parking. And come early! There's a good reason why they ask you to come 15 minutes early and it is not only to sign waivers and use the restroom. They use this time to assign characters and roles and tell you the back story of the escape room. So come on time or you'll lose time! I had a team of 5 and we completed the Queen. Great room for beginners. There's an option to select beginner, intermediate and advanced difficulty in their rooms when you book. The Lab. This was a great room. They let you choose the level of difficulty. We were over confident and opted for the most difficult level. You will really enjoy the details and even the challenges. Just when you think you've figured it out, another clue needs to be solved. The game master was so friendly and made the experience immersive from the beginning. We missed the window for buying tickets on line, but IF they have an opening, you can book a future date and when you arrive, they will update it for the same day! Be SURE TO CALL FIRST to be sure it's an option for that day/time. We did not save California from mass destruction, but will definitely be back to try again. Looking forward to The Queen room too. There are two (or three) parking space right in front of their building. But if they're taken, there's plenty of FREE street parking. (Same post for Mission Escape/Escape Long Beach. Unfortunately, my friends bailed (yes, I know, very sad) and I please please please begged for a refund because by this point it would just be me and my boyfriend. I know the refund policies (these escape rooms would be my 50th and 51st rooms) so I was honestly just hoping they would be kind. They were! Look, I know what you're thinking is that sure, it's a nice thing they did. But they didn't HAVE to, I knew the refund policy, I would have understood their position had they not, and they still chose to do so. I hope they understand how incredibly grateful I was for them refunding me. Onto the rooms!!! These rooms were GREAT, so immersive and incredibly detailed. I love the fact that you started outside the room and had to actually figure out your way inside (V FUN). The game masters gave good clues without outright giving away the solution (something I appreciate). Each room has difficulty levels which I find super adaptive and great for beginners through experts and what a fun immersive way to bring new customers in and attract others who are escape room enthusiasts! This was most of my group's first time, and it was THE BEST TIME. Just the right amount of puzzles and figure it out fun to keep us engaged and laughing. Our game host was Mariah, and she explained how the game worked wonderfully and did a great job of getting into character. We did the Queen room, so we played the parts of paranormal experts who were being sent in to assist in the retrieval of a lost soul. All while trying to not get trapped there ourselves! The room was decorated superbly and totally gave off that "haunted ship from the past" kinda vibe. The puzzles were challenging but not to the point of us getting frustrated, you can always call out to the spirits to help as well! This room was great for first-time escape room friends. Conor - What a gem! I have done 150+ escape rooms across several states and have to say a great game is a great game but the majority of games need a great game master to really make a difference and Conor is a great game master. Myself and 1 other experienced player did Queen Mary and really enjoyed it. The room is small compared to most but the theming and decor was great. It was a very fun experience made all the better with Conor as our guide. Highly recommend this room for experienced and non experienced alike. Don't be afraid to max out your experience with Level 3 it is very doable. Due to the smaller size of the room I suggest 1-2 experienced players or 3-4 new players. read more

Our GM, Nava, was super fun, made it very engaging, and had it so that no one in our group was left out of the whole thing/everyone had a role. I can't stress how much better the Escape Room was because of Nava and their personality. The difficulty wasn't too bad, and staff were very accommodating when it came to helping us out. I even made a mistake scheduling the appointment, and they were very understanding and so quick to respond via email/phone to help me out and get our group in at time that best fit us.
