Pork Belly - 10/10 on the app. Fall apart Sticky Pork Belly in a Piloncillo Lemongrass Glaze, Chile Aioli, a Fried Egg and a Citrus Fennel Salad. On point! Black Cod - One of my favorite fish, this came on a bed of Crusted Cotija Cheese (amazing) blended with a Coconut Chipotle Pegao (crispy rice) which was insanely good, and a Tomato Onion Reduction. Super good. Mesquite Charcoal K4 Skirt Steak - If you don't know what K4 Steak is, are you even living in Arizona? 7 generations deep yo! No lie, one of the best Carne Asada plates I've had, medium rare on a bed of Potatoes, Sonoran Beans and Pickled Onions with a Grilled Tortilla. All day, I'd go back just for this dish. Must order for sure. Birria Dumplings - Yeah. Really. Braised Wagyu Beef Cheek, a Chile Consume and Bok Choy. Fahgetaboutit! Have to try! Summer Salad - Chayote, Jicama, Sherry Garlic Vinaigrette, Beans and a Whipoed Requesón. If you haven't been, go check em out, right next to the Nile in downtown Mesa. First time at Espiritu and it definitely lived up to the hype. The food and drinks were both incredible, everything we tried was full of flavor and beautifully done. The whole space has such a cool, cozy vibe that makes it perfect for a night out. However, what really stood out was the service. We had the blonde server/manager Megan who was super welcoming and attentive despite how packed the restaurant was. Ran out of water about a quarter of the way through our meal. I waved down the server as it was evident I wasn't going to be offered another beverage. We had made it through the majority of our food at this point. I asked if I could please have a sprite. Literally never got it. Waved her down again after finishing all the food and asked for the check. I mentioned I never received a beverage to which she replied "yes the bar is behind on drinks"...... (We only waved her down because she was entirely dropping the ball with our table) I didn't even get my water refilled once? You're gonna blame the bar on a sprite too? That was wild behavior. She apologized at the end and "removed the sprite" from our check as if that made up for eating dinner with absolutely nothing to drink. I don't know if I've been this wildly forgotten about at a restaurant before. For me though it was blaming the bar on sprite as if that would remedy the situation. I will say they attempted to bring the sprite after the complaint. Mind you we literally finished our food and were ready to leave at this point. For further context we were there for about maybe an hour total? So not rushing in any regard. I got the steak and I truthfully didn't love it but the beans and tortilla were very good. I think not having anything to drink really effected the quality of the meal so I don't want to harsh to badly on the cooking. BUT a crisp sprite would have really helped the situation. We literally left and got a soda from swig after because we were PARCHED. It's worth mentioning my friend wanted to order another beer and that wasn't in the cards for us either. We never even got a water refill it was wild. I wouldn't have left a bad review had it not been for the waitress blaming the bar on the 20 minute sprite order. It was on her and she didn't want to take accountability. How would she like eating her dinner with no beverage? A $50 dinner with literally nothing to drink. First I will start with the biggest challenge- it is so dark in the restaurant it takes a while for your eyes to adjust. But who cares? The service is exceptional, the food is exceptional. Our table had the porterhouse pork chop( most tender, most flavorful pork that I have ever eaten) the red snapper ( crispy delicious skin) and the hangar steak which was also delicious. Really awesome they got us in on Mother's Day they were very busy so we were made aware the table would be in use at 6:30 so if we wanted to sit would have to be done by then. Which was fine. This was our first time looked good from online PICTs. I thought food was a little different so was a lil nervous mom wasn't as tempting as I was. Got dumplings and fondue both really good. I have heard amazing things about this place and finally made reservations...but it was mid to decent at best....right now it is restaurant week. We did not partake but--it is 55.00 a person with 3 starter options, 3 main course options, and 2 dessert options. My overall rating of this place based on our experience--I would give a 7/10. The cocktails looked promising but quite a few options were "sold out" which was a bummer for us cocktail connoisseurs. We both enjoyed our 1st round--my boyfriend ordered the famous Los Caidos and I ordered the chichen-itza (not spelling that right I am sure)--both come in very awesome mugs/glassware. Both cocktails were tropical and well balanced. For our round 2-my boyfriend ordered Me Llama Rosa (I believe...tried to look up their cocktail menu online and I cannot view it) which per the "tastes like" notes--Strawberry Nesquik but boozy--it definitely was not. He couldn't drink it and I tried it and I also would not drink it. Due to the limited options of their specialty cocktails--there wasn't another cocktail he wanted. I ordered the famous Phoenix--it was decent. The presentation with the flaming citrus was definitely cool but the cocktail body itself was mid. Food: Well the food is where it is at! Compliments to the chef however again very limited options. We wanted to order an appetizer and the 2 options we wanted were "sold out" was not told that in the beginning before ordering. My boyfriend ordered the skirt steak which he said was the best skirt steak he has ever had. He really enjoyed the frijoles which was complimented with the steak. I did try them and they were delicious but a tad bit salty for my liking. If you read other reviews on here there is mention of food tasting salty. However, the beans did remind me of my Nanas beans. I ordered the potato tacos which were delicious. The red salsa was fantastic--I can drink it by the gallon. It does have a kick but I love spice. The decor inside is beautiful. The music was awesome. Service was decent. We came. We tried it. We probably won't rush to come back but it is a decent upscale Mexican restaurant with mid to decent cocktails--but people will come for the food. Very trendy place, but not pretentious. I actually liked the dark ambiance, and I really appreciated the Oaxacan mezcales they offer. There were no vegan food options, which was a bummer for me, but I just ordered the chayote salad without cheese, and it was delicious. read more

Muy delicioso!!! We were seated promptly at the bar as per our reservation. We made the reservation the same day and the bar was the only available option. It was comfortable and offered plenty of room. The music was a bit loud but it didn't hinder our conversation. It's also a tad bit dark, but that's the vibe here. The cocktails are imaginative and tasty. The bartender wanted to make sure I would like what I ordered. We had the ceviche which was hamachi (yellowtail) this evening. It was tart and fresh tasting with just the right amount of heat. The birria dumplings were bomb diggity good. The other reviewers were right. This app makes you want to drink the broth right from the plate (if you have any left). We shared the main dish, the deep fried whole snapper, which was plenty for two. It made for the absolute tastiest fish tacos with the provided tortillas. The crust held well and it wasn't over-breaded or over-cooked. The service was spot on. The bartenders were very busy, but the rest of the staff took care of us and them and delivered our food and cleared our plates with exact precision. They worked together like a well-oiled machine. One small note, we followed our GPS directions and they took us in the back door in the alley. Go around to the front if this happens to you. It's a much more welcoming entry. Came here with a friend last night and enjoyed the experience! We had reservations for 6:30pm and the place was already pretty full. Would suggest making a reservation when coming here. There is quite the cocktail selection here and there's a whole booklet on cocktails to order. I started off with a mezcal drink with yuzu, it was good and I enjoyed it. I think I prefer Mexican/Southwestern flavors with mezcal vs citrus but that's just me. My friend had a drink with sotol in it, and it had an earthy, grassy flavor. Probably the best item we tried were the birria dumplings and this was just fantastic! The queso fundido we ordered next was just so-so, a bit too sour for me. We then opted to share the Korean pork rib dish and the ribs were very flavorful and tasty. The rice was good but a tad bit salty and the chapati like bread was good. All the dishes were very generous in portions and we had leftovers to take home. Our next drinks we had were the quetzal, which my friend had and this was tasty and a bit sweeter. Totally regret not eating here. I had originally wanted to go to Bacanora but reservations were hard to come by when they book out in less than a few minutes after releasing their dates. So we went elsewhere for dinner. Then read that Espiritu is the sister restaurant and linked to Chef Rene Andrade and Chef Roberto Centeno. So we came for drinks. There's a parking lot in the back that's free for 3 hours and entrance is through a narrow walkway that resembles an alley but very safe. We sat at the bar. The menu book was split into different chapters with different play on words and cleaver names. Be sure to check your book if you have all the chapters because we were missing two chapters and had no idea until we saw someone else ordered an old fashion that doesn't look like ours. We ordered Tio Victors Old Fashioned which came out clear looking like water with a nice etched ice cube. Tio Victors Old Fashioned came in a skull cup. They rotate their menu often and this was rolled over from the previous rotation. Both drinks were strong and beautifully crafted. So happy I finally got around to trying Espiritu! Enjoyed everything about our dining experience here. I liked that this is a smaller restaurant and more intimate; The wait staff was very nice and attentive but not over-bearing. The drinks were great. I did two "choose your own" type drinks and both hit the spot. For my second one, I asked for tequila, boozey, sour and with egg white; my boyfriend and I both agreed that that drink was made for me! Very fun drink experience. The food was delicious. We loved the sauce on the baked oysters (ordered 2x), and although the wagyu birrira dumplings weren't my favorite flavor profile personally, it was a good appetizer serving size, the wrappers were good and they were cooked well. I liked the chimichurri on the tuna crudo but probably could've done without this dish (the tuna wasn't anything special but they were decent sized slices and still glad we tried it). The fried fish was the way to go for the entree! It seemed almost every table around us got this throughout the night too. We shared between the two of us; with all our apps, it was too much, but otherwise it's definitely a good shareable meal. The crispy skin was perfect and the fish meat was flaky but not dried out. I really liked the veggies/marinade and homemade tortillas on the side too... overall made for some really tasty fish tacos! WOW. Espiritu in downtown Mesa is a hidden gem that deserves ALL the hype! A resounding yes! There is so much to love about Espiritu. The ambiance is everything here. The bright turquoise walls and colorful flowers and candles, there is definitely a Dia de los Muertos feel. Super cool. There is also a patio outside. There's a great cocktail menu, and I've tried to get something different every time I've been here. Every cocktail I've had has been absolutely delicious with a Great presentation. The focus here is seafood, although you can get a burger. I have had shrimp tacos, which was a daily special, ceviche mixtos, and a giant fish (red snapper, I think) that is breaded and fried surfed with salsa and tortillas that serves two people (at least!!). We stopped by on a Saturday evening with a 7:30pm reservation. Despite having a reservation we were seated at the bar instead of a table which was interesting. For drinks, we ordered two cocktails - the Phoenix and cheechenitza, which were both delicious. We also ordered the birria dumplings and queso fundido to split. There were four dumplings in the order and it had a very delicious flavor, although very salty. The queso fundido came on a large plate with a green salsa and shoestring potato on top. We weren't entirely sure how to eat it, as it was basically a large plate of melted cheese without a vessel to eat it with. It should be communicated that you should order this to go along with something (or even include!) to go with it, like tortillas. The queso was also even more salty than the birria dumplings making the entire meal a little bit difficult to get through. The vibes and atmosphere were excellent, but service was a bit lacking. We waited a long time to get refills despite being sat at the bar. I would go back for drinks however I'm not sure I would order those food items again. read more

My eyes were bigger than my stomach and I wanted to try everything LOL. We started off with the Cevichi Mixto and Birria Dumplings. I wanted the catch of the day to be Snapper but it was Mackerel which I'm not a fan of. We ordered the Mesquite Charcoal Skirt Steak and Pollo Parrilla (which Jenni said was new to the menu) All the dishes came out tasting excellent along with presentation. The flavor combinations were fabulous. Tortillas, beans and potatoes came with the entree dishes on the side. A few things to note before you go: you will need a reservation as shortly as we arrived for our 5:15 reservation the bar and all the inside tables were soon filled. Dishes entrees again are easily shared for 2. The menu items change, so don't assume the catch and cut of the day are always the same. We made a reservation a couple of weeks ahead of time because we have been hearing great things about this new place. We arrived and were seated right away, there were a few open tables but they were very busy. It's a small place with seating indoors, outside and at the bar. Were we told we would have 90 minutes at our table, interesting- I've never had anyone be that specific about how long you were allowed to stay. Nevertheless we were able to order a drink, an appetizer and our meals and not feel rushed at all. Our server was dressed in a T-shirt and trucker hat, super casual, but was very attuned to the menu, and our preferences and the quality of service he gave us would rival any server at a fine dining establishment. Two in my group tried some unique drinks, and I tried the orange wine, kind of new and trendy and it was served ice cold -very nice! Probably the best ceviche I've ever had--last night was salmon and was plentiful and wonderfully flavored with corn tortillas to munch on and balance out the acidity. I highly recommend coming with others so that you can try a few different things as this place is best done family style. If they have the fried fish you can get the 2lb one and it's great to share between 4 people. The ceviche is excellent and the wagyu dumplings are amazing. The hostess was able to send us a text when our table was ready. Ambiance is dark, teal, and picturesque; v aesthetic, as are the majority of their drinks. The playlist was liiiit but it was also very loud and hard to hear my bestie sitting across the table from me. As we'd come from dinner, we opted for cocktails. My bestie had 2 margs. While there are abundant options on the menu, I'm a vodka girl and the drinks were mostly rum/tequila (to be expected for a Spanish restaurant). Ask for a pina colada and you shall receive! Located in downtown Mesa! They have parking in the front and back. Nicely decorated restaurant for a casual hangout or a fancy night out. The seafood was really good!! I got the Del Mar Ceviche Mixto and lots of big pieces of seafood. This dish was filling and can be easily shared. The burger was a big portion. If you are hungry, this will be a great choice! The potatoes were seasoned very well. The burger was juicy and cheesy!! The Lichi Lychee Lee-Chee drink was great!! Very refreshing drink. Tucked away between two shops in downtown Mesa, Espiritu is a great little gem with scrumptious food and cocktails that will knock your socks off. I took my future hubby to be to celebrate his birthday. Reservations suggested since seating is limited and it does get pretty full. (We went on a Thursday night) The ambiance is intimate and service was swift and kind. Our server suggested types of cocktails and wine to pair with our meal. So speaking of our meal. We had the market special of 20 oz bone-in rib eye and 20 oz bone-in pork chop. Both had a nice sear and char on the outside and cooked to perfection on the inside. At first I didn't think I would finish since it is a lot of food, but it was too good not to stop! It also came with a side of bean soup and grilled flour tortillas and salsa. I highly recommend checking this place out if you haven't already. The chef is a James Beard award nominee and won on Chopped! We arrived here right as they were opening (5pm ish) and grabbed seats at the bar. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try any of the food because we had just eaten prior to that. I ordered the Or Chata Clarified Milk Punch and he ordered the Morning Is In cocktail. The Or Chata was pretty sweet. More than I was expecting but I shoulda known better cuz it had horchata. It wasn't bad but just a tad too sweet for me. His drink was also a bit sweet. He didn't finish his drink and ended up ordering a second drink which was a tequila soda w/ a lime (his usual). I'm sure he enjoyed his usual more than the first. He thought that place was okay overall. I liked the place because it gives off a speakeasy vibe. Delicious, unexpected, welcoming, and fun! This was our first experience at Espiritu. We casually stumbled across this venue in passing and was met by the chef grilling his meals on the front patio.
