Sitting here writing this review as I sit in the coffee shop. So this is my first time here I used to go to TWO when I was in the area but they have closed down. I ordered an americano and sat down to do work on my computer and 15 minutes later still no drink as I am watching people in line get their drink made right away. Mind you I have been up to get the wifi password since sitting down. So I go to the counter and the girl who took my order and who I have been in plain sight of the entire time asks if I would like anything else. I reply I haven't gotten my americano yet and she says okay.....no sorry. She then makes it, calls it out, forgets something I asked for (not a major deal if I'd gotten the drink without a long wait to begin with) and then says sorry. Like its an after thought. I wish places taught customer service better especially to young workers. I won't be back. read more

The food is great. I'll give it a 4. Sandwiches are loaded and taste delicious especially the tuna melt but I'm giving the 3 stars because the workers were not very suited for their job. This is one of those conflicting places to review: Although it wasn't the worst experience, it wasn't the best either. I didn't really care for the coffee, I think it was mostly the aftertaste that didn't settle well with me, but I didn't drink the full cup, because it just didn't seem high quality to me, and maybe that's why they seemed to have lower prices? I was VERY disappointed in the apple fritter that I tried to eat: The doughnut was old, it had a stale taste to it, the inside was really really dry, and the outside texture wasn't the way it should've been either. I very rarely send food back, but this was an exception. The service wasn't bad, but they weren't the most friendly people either. I know that this area doesn't have a whole lot of food/coffee options, but overall, I wouldn't recommend this place. The crowd was definitely an older crowd, and they all seemed to enjoy themselves here. I really wouldn't recommend this place for those with younger kids. read more

Stopped here only because I had a horrid coffee elsewhere- so glad I did! First, I was greeted by a gal who was sweeping outside then immediately acknowledged as I entered the cafe. It was a nice atmosphere and I learned that they roast their coffee there. So my coffee...I ordered a simple iced coffee and was surprised. It was a strong flavor and quite tasty. It actually had a coffee taste unlike the one I ordered just 10 min earlier from another shop. The price was very reasonable and the service was great. Stopped in here after driving by all the time, I wanted to try a smoothie. They have a big sandwich menu and the cookie I got was absolutely delicious. The girls who worked there seemed a bit snotty though, and not too concerned with service. I said three times (since they asked three times) no whipped cream. Guess what I got? There's a sign at the register that they charge $1 for shared sandwiches. Pretty good indicator that they are out to get there's with no regard for service. I always get the garden turkey on rye, it's usually large enough for two meals for me. It's full of sprouts, onions, green peppers, turkey, Cucumbers, cheese & almost impossible to get a bite around! I've also tried their scones which I also thought were tasty. Their coffee is terrible and I would not waste my money on that again. I have only been going to and ordering from local restaurants during the pandemic. I pass by this little place everyday and it is always packed, and upon reading the reviews of others which are positive, so I am sure my experience was just an exception. When I received my order it was not complete, the sandwich was burnt on one side, completely cold and hard as a rock, and the bagel was smooched, hard and just not edible. I don't know what happened, but the whole order (or the part that was received) had to be thrown away (except for a pickle). This place was recommended to me by my boss and is now my go to place for lunch. Fantastic atmosphere. Staff is wonderful and friendly. They remember my usual order. My favorite is the Garden Turkey sandwich followed by the Fircrest Club. If you feel like salad, my favorite is the salad with chicken, apples, cranberries, glazed walnuts, and Bleu cheese with a raspberry vinegarette. Check out their selection of delicious scones and other baked goods. There is limited parking spaces and they get pretty busy around lunchtime so call your order in if you can. Fircrest is a gem of a little town, tucked in between Tacoma and University Place. The streets form a labyrinth with the 25 MPH speed limits strictly enforced. Shaded by huge firs and cedars, Fircrest is home to unique family businesses like Viafore's Deli, Mimi's Teas, Fircrest Jewelers, and, yes, Espress-O Yourself, a coffee shop, deli, and community center at the edge of downtown across from the Country Club. The friendly, uber-competent and attractive millennial staff takes orders, delivers lattes to your table, and engages in running banter with the mostly local customer base. There is a drive-through window for customers in a hurry. A friend and I meet weekly for coffee and conversation, joined by groups of all ages. Larger groups just push tables together. There is a small outdoor seating area for the PNW dry season (mid-July to mid-October). Parking is sometimes an issue, and occasionally it's tough to get a table, but they make their pastries and sandwiches right on the premises. The cinnamon rolls are about the size of a small pizza, and each sandwich would easily feed two non-Seahawks. There are a few outlets along the walls for laptop lizards. EY is an antidote for the depressing, cookie-cutter world of Starbuck's and Amazon. Get down there before the drones do! read more

Have been going here for years and always LoVe my meals. Why is it the sandwiches someone else makes are always better than your own ? It is a cozy environment without any rushed feeling. I came in because I heard they have amazing food. I got the Italian panini it was delicious. The "fair scone" not as good as the fair. The salad great too. But oh my land don't expect to be treated kindly.. I walked in the girls behind counter had no greeting for me. Just what do I want? They weren't busy, but cleaning things. Absolutely fantastic coffee shop, I've been coming here for over a decade now, and in that time there has only been one real streak of things going badly, and they clearly went above and beyond to fix it. I haven't had anything that could even be remotely construed as anything below spectacular customer service since then. The prices are beyond reasonable, and the quality of the food beats out anywhere in Tacoma. Hands down the place to go for coffee, scones, sandwiches, really whatever you're craving. The sweets don't taste like what you get from Starbucks, or Forza. They taste FRESH, and that's because the owner seemingly bakes the pastries daily. The owner Bryce puts a tremendous amount of effort into his business. There is rarely a day that I come in where I don't see him plugging away and greeting customers. The girls who work in the coffee shop are absolutely delightful. Polite, kind, remember my usual, I mean they really go above and beyond. I can't even remember to lock my house before I leave, and they manage to remember everyone's orders. The girls treat their jobs with a level of professionalism that I don't think I would be capable of sustaining the way they have. I work nearby and stopped off here because it was convenient for me at the time. I've been there twice. First time I ordered their BLT & Clam Chowder *AHEM* I'm sorry I don't know how you can screw up a BLT but they did.. I want to be nice describing the sandwich but it's kind of hard to.. Bacon was overcooked..I mean beyond crispy borderline burnt to hell where it lacked any flavor. Toasted bread tasted stale..the sandwich was dry, flavorless & a waste of money and a couple bites I was already over it and truly disappointed by then Now on to the clam chowder..if that's what you want to call it. I was hoping the chowder would make up for the sandwich. Yea..no another sad example of money wasted. It was soupy and lacked clams it had more potatoes in it then anything and had no flavor of any kind. I was told by coworkers that the day before is potato soup day so they just add clams to it....seriously?! Tried it again because I was starving and didn't have time to go elsewhere for the lunch hour. I should of just starved and waited til I got home after work. I can't remember the sandwich but I know I only ate half of it and tossed it because it was another disappointment between to pieces of bread..Never will go here again and it baffles me that people go here to eat. I am completely jealous of Fircrest. I met a friend here for coffee the other morning and I didn't want to leave! I just got a simple latte... And to be completely honest, it was the best latte I've had in my life. It didn't taste burnt at all and the foamed milk was actually creamy tasting, even for the nonfat milk. We live close by so we took a walk there this morning to get some coffee. They had so many delicious sounding flavors for lattes that we ended up getting those instead and loved them!
