This is an okay diner. Their portions are large but the food wasn't that great. The waiter didn't have such a great attitude and when we asked for a water refill he took forever even though it wasn't busy. I wouldn't go back for a second time. The only good thing was that it was clean. read more

Oh, this place is great! I come here very often with my family and we always leave satisfied. There's one server there, he has a thick Spanish accent and oh boy, he's so friendly. The staff here are on point! Very attentive. The food is delicious and they're also open 24 hours which is a major plus. If you get something off of the dinner menu, be warned that it's a lot of food for a little money. My kids love coming here and at the end, you get a nice little lollipop. It's very clean. The food is great however, there aren't alcoholic options aside from your house red and white wine but aside from that, this place is a definite keeper. read more

Waitress wasn't very nice. (Woman, maybe in her 60s, short blond hair) For one thing, her tone of voice was very sharp and uninviting. My boyfriend ordered 3 things & she literally told him "ok that's good." She brought our food & walked away not caring if we needed anything or if everything was ok. She didn't come back to check on us at all. Every time we tried to get her attention, she avoided eye contact. When taking the hot sauce from us to give to another table she just took it and left. With her paying such great attention to the table next to us, I wasn't pleased by any means. Food was good though, average diner food. read more

I'm not impressed with the Esquire Diner. If you order a simple sandwich, you get no pickles, no cole slaw and no water. They should be aware that there are other diners around, not as many as before, but competiton is stiil there. read more

I can't give this a 4 because to me in my mind a Diner will never get a 4 or 5 and if one exists, please put me on..but I will say I been living around this area for about 19 years and decided to finally give it a try (since Atlantic Diner was being renewed and nothing else was open that late)and my order was awsome, specially the Stuffed Fillet of Sole and sweet potato fries, that automatically made me like the diner aside from the very attentive/ friendly waiter both me and my girlfriend agreed the ambience wasn't as bad as Atlantic's Diner, they do have to do something about their stake, not so good too dry, but as I said it's a diner you can't expect too much. read more

let me first start by saying WTF .. i went in yesterday with my husband and children .. got seated .. waited 10 minutes and no waitress to even take a drink order. then i ordered and my child wanted lemonade. the waitress came back 2 times to ask what to drink. then she spoke to another waitress and they said she could make it herself or have a bus boy do it its just water and a piece of lemon. I am sorry but i am not getting charged over 3 dollars for water and lemon. Needless to say the Indian watress we had was BEYOND RUDE .. not even a greeting before the drink order. After a long and fun night of partying, a couple of my friends and I decided to come here. We were in and out pretty fast. There were 5 of us & we we're placed in a booth but since there wasn't enough space, the manager and another young man brought over another table along with a chair, which was nice of them. We were also brought water upon us settling down. The waitress was nice but she didn't seem interested. The food was great! I got the 10 pcs starter which included 3 mozzarella sticks, 3 chicken tenders, and 4 buffalo wings. The wings weren't buffalo wings, they were classic but that wasn't a big deal. I just asked for hot sauce. Besides that, the food was fresh and hot. The chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks were awesome! The platters came to the table very presentable. read more

You dont get any better than this. First, its a diner. Old style menu, combined with a modern menu thats for everyone. If you want to go somewhere with a big group of people or even a small one, you will never be dissapointed by the service and the food especially. Everything in this place is tasty. I have been coming here over the years maybe a couple times a year, but every time it never seems to dissapoint or upset me in any way. Recently Ive been coming here more often on weekends when I visit my family in Ozone Park, and still you have Jimmy and his son Pete (pretty cute by the way) working the dinner shift. Usually its packed, granted the closures of most places in the area account for this past time I went it was not too busy, but for this place being open for almost 50 years and having the same owners for almost 30, they must be doing something right. This is the one diner I will always be loyal to no matter what anyone says because I know food, I know a diversity of different places, and when you come to the Esquire, you get taken care of. NOTE:!!!!! Try their wraps burgers and turkey burgers, oh!!! and dont forget their cheesecake. Its hard to find a diner who makes their cheesecake this fluffy and fresh anymore. For the past 5 years, my husband and I have been visiting this Diner, and it aches me to not be returning further more. As I was seated by a waitress named Jacqueline, she seemed helpful and attentive at first. Unfortunately, while placing our orders, I mentioned I would not be eating anything, I will have a coffee, but my Husband would order an entree, she replied "If you are going to share with him, there will be a sharing fee." First off, I have never heard of this and for the past 5 years, I never had this issue. I told her I would not be sharing then, I would just have my coffee, but then Jacqueline says she would place my order on hold until I order something, Which now is simply ridiculous. I told her I never had this issue before and Jacqueline simply walks away from us and says "She's not dealing with us right now." First of, Jacqueline, you would always be a low life if you approach people in this manner. For a middle aged woman, you should have respect for your job, now what you should've done, was simply say "I'm sorry about this, let me get my Manager." Unfortunately, when I requested the Manager, by the name of Diane or Diana, not quite sure, she was extremely disrespectful as well ,and told us, the previous waiters was doing wrong before by not charging us a sharing fee. So seriously for the past 5 YEARS, Your waiters was doing the wrong job. HONESTLY, WE LEFT AND WOULD NEVER BE RETURNING TO THIS DINER. THIS IS WHY THE DINER IS EXTREMELY EMPTY NOW, AND BUSINESS IS BAD BECAUSE OF THE POOR QUALITY WORKERS (JACQUELINE) AND MANAGER(DIANA/DIANE). It is very sad to see this place reach such a low point since I have been going there for over 30 years. About 6 months ago I stopped going there because the service was so bad. If Jimmy or Peter are not present there is just no management at all! I went there last night because the traffic on Cross Bay Blvd was really bad and it was closer to me, big mistake. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings, it came out without the bacon. The burger was horrible! An overcooked frozen patty with no attempt made to do anything with it that would make you want to come back. I did not know onion rings could be so bad, they were hard as a rock. Of course when I got the check I was charged for the bacon I never got. I was not charged to listen to the employees fight with each other, this was free of charge.The prices are high, the food has gotten bad and the inmates are running the asylum. read more

The place is so ridiculously expensive I will never ever go their again. Cheese Burger and fries $14.00. Add 3 onion rings for an extra $5.95 and then add tax on to it. I complained but they said it was no mistake. Everything was ice cold when I got home. No condiments, no napkins, no ketchup, no nothing. I hope they go out of business. I really thought it would be impossible for a diner to be more expensive than Crossbay Diner. Boy, was I wrong. $9.50 for chicken fingers. I said ok Whatever. They bring it to the table and it was exactly 4 chicken fingers. Only 4. They were smaller than my own fingers. A friend and I were sharing so we had two each. A plain grilled cheese on white bread was $5.60. You'd think with prices that high they could afford to light the whole restaurant. Half the restaurant was pitch black. So after 1 order of chicken fingers, 1 order of quesadillas (there were just 4 as well), a soda, and a lemonade, I sold my car and my left kidney so I could pay for it all. In all seriousness though, the bill was $40 bucks! For 4 school lunch chicken fingers, and 4 paper thin quesadillas. Unbelievable. Let me put that into perspective for you. After a terrible first experience here, I decided to come back because my friend raves about this diner constantly. I, on the other hand, will never be back. The first time I came the quesadilla I had was absolutely terrible. My friends thought I was exaggerating until they tried it for themselves. The second time I came, I ordered a side order of fries. Three fries down I find MOLD on a few of the fries. I inform the waiter who insists loudly it isn't mold but rather because of the way they were cut, as if I was crazy for assuming it was mold. I'm sorry but I've never seen green on the ends of fries before. He brings over another plate of fries, only for me to find more green fries, which is about the time me and my friend got up and left. I was insisting on complaining to a manager but because my friend didn't want me to make a big deal we paid and left. For a place people go expecting fresh food, I'm thoroughly disgusted.
