I used to go here all the time as a kid, it used to be great. Now, the service is terrible we got greeted at the door by a smile-less corpse. The food was cold, and tasted like it was sitting for a while. The only time the waitress came back to our table is when she handed us the bill. Over expensive. I WILL NEVER RETURN AGAIN!!!!! I usually never eat here, but since Crossbay diner has been closed due to renovation since hurricane Sandy, i basically had no choice one late night but to stop in and have something to eat. So i went in to eat Monday night April 1st with my boyfriend, and to start off it was freezing inside. I was so cold I kept my jacket on the entire time I was in the diner. We were seated at a table and before we were even able to look at a menu the waiter came over an said 'are u ready?' 'what are u eating?' I told him that were weren't ready and needed more time, that to just bring us some iced tea( which by the way is fountain iced tea and isn't free refills) (what place serves fountain drinks and aren't free refills?????) ANYWAY... lets get to the food. I ordered a tuna sandwich which was really good BUT, my boyfriend ordered pancakes, sausage, bacon and eggs over easy..... The pancakes were HORRIBLE! they were hard, stale and taste very funny ... I really dont know why, maybe they were old or something but they were gross. so we sent them back. The sausages were nasty smelling and burnt and way too big to be breakfast sausages. The waiter was very fast to try to take our order but once we had the food he was no where to be found. I needed mayo for my sandwich and i waited minutes before asking for it an then quite some time to even receive the mayo. Once we received our check we also noticed that they never took the pancakes off our check that we never ate and HATED!... I really disliked this diner and will NEVER return!! I cant wait til Crossbay diner opens!!! read more

Esquire diner has the feel of a old fashioned diner from long ago. Everyone was friendly and service was quick. Esquire was very clean which is something I look for when I eat out. I had the fried chicken which was just average while my boyfriend had a burger which he found was better than the chicken. You live and learn....I will just pick something else next time. Service was poor, I felt like I was walking into an Assisted living facility. The waitresses were reminiscent of Goodfella's characters circa 1984. I always went here as a kid, never had a problem. My friend and I needed a place to eat on the way to Resorts World casino. So, I found this diner. They had an expansive and reasonably priced lunch menu. I had a tuna salad platter that included "the usual" add-ons. For the price, it was very large and very filling. The service was excellent and the the diner had that "modern diner" look. My wife and I were reminded today why we never eat at the Esquire Diner. It had been a few years since we last ate here, and decided to try it again, in case it had improved. It hadn't. I've lived in Ozone Park for 45 years, and while I'm not a huge diner guy, Esquire was always a decent late-night place to stop and grab something. It certainly has changed, and for the worse. We went in on a Sunday afternoon. The place was crowded. We were brought to our table. As we were standing in aisle, taking our jackets off, one of the Mexican busboys was already putting water glasses down. As I was taking my jacket off, I hit a water and knocked it to the ground. I was pissed! Why would you come over to a table and start putting glasses down when we hadn't even sat, or taken off our jackets? So, once I sat down, I was annoyed, and I accidentally hit another glass and knocked THAT glass to the ground! Ugh! You can tell what kind of meal this was going to be. Another Mexican busboy came over and mopped-up the spill, and took our menus and silverware as they were covered in water. If I told you how long we had to wait for someone to bring us new menus, you wouldn't believe me. It took the hostess, who by the way, was also serving food, to come over and ask us if we would like menus! Duh! No, we don't need menus, we're just sitting here because we like it here! Ugh! Anyway, we FINALLY saw a waitress, an older white woman, pleasant enough, and she took our order. I ordered French toast with fresh strawberries, and my wife ordered eggs Benedict with French fries. My strawberries, I swear, tasted as if they were bought from C-Town a month ago, and never washed! They were horrible! My wife's food was just ok. So, $30 later, we went to pay the nasty Greek woman at the counter, swearing to ourselves that we would never return to the Esquire Diner. What's sad is that not only are the people that work there nasty, the other patrons were nasty as well, showing me how Ozone Park has changed, and it's time to make a move! WAFFLE FRIES!!!! This diner has everything that makes it an authentic diner. Its 24hours, it has sandwiches, soups, and burgers. The food is great. They cook your burger to your liking. I like my burger juicy (medium well). I ordered a swiss cheese burger, curly fries, and waffle fries. The curly fries and waffle fries were both salted and fried to perfection. They don't include tip in the check. When I asked for the check, they brought it to me and they gave me exact change back and i was able to leave a tip on the table for my server, (just like a diner should be). The service was great. As soon I sat down, water was poured for me and my two other friends. Then we were asked what we wanted to drink. We ordered three milkshakes and they came fast. Our server then asked if we were ready to order, but we were still deciding. When we were ready I saw her looking over and she came right away. I appreciate that she was paying attention. She took our orders and it took 10 minutes and I got my burger served hot and fresh. This place has a great authentic diner feel and great food! read more

It's a diner. We have plenty in NY but in my neighborhood it's my go to. This place is always busy and the food is decent. Keep in mind it's a diner so I really only come here for breakfast foods. Nothing fancy or gourmet but when you want eggs and homefries or whatever at whatever time, it's a good bet in the Ozone Park/Howard Beach area. Staff is friendly and service is always good. The restaurant is clean and there is a parking lot which is a big plus in NY (even if it can be a little tight)! read more

Ate here, had great steak slovaki. The food was great but I am leaving one star because of the flat out service. After eating with three of my friends the normal thing we would do is split the tab 3 ways. I give the waiters our check presenter with 3 credit cards and she goes to the counter to run them (sitting right by the counter) and we overhear probably the owners son saying tell them ill only take 2 cards. DUDE WE WANT TO PAY WITH CARDS JUST BECAUSE YOUR IGNORANT AND WANT TO SAVE .15 FOR YOUR PROCESSING FEES doesn't mean you treat your customers like a turd. Ended up paying with 3 cards but the nerve of this guy and the funny thing was he was counting a stack of cash while doing all of this. Very disappointed. I read the reviews and nothing matched anything I've read before we went here. We were there on tonight me n my husband over 2 hours waiting on entrees. Service was some of the worst our waitress was forgetful. She complained the entire time with the cashier about her ride home. Finally getting our food they gave my husband the wrong order so I ate while he waited for the correct order , that was another 30 minutes. I kid you not something I ate there gave me diarrhea I've been on the toilet all night and this was the only thing I ate today. There are people who have been working here for years who make you feel at home the moment you walk through the door. Now, this was one of my favorite neighborhood places to be. However, for the past few years the venue has dropped to below par. I was there for breakfast, the guy (not my server) dropped the cup with hot water for my tea so hard on the table that it spilled over. I, personally, am a fan of the Esquire. I have had refreshing experiences, as well as some of the best breakfasts to start out my day here in the past. I would describe the breakfast and lunch meals the best, however, you choose your meals wisely. Others may not agree, and that's alright. Everything cannot be perfect. Somewhere to go after you have arrived from the airport, Esquire is easily the best restaurant/diner in the area. It just does not get much better than this. Although the waiters and waitresses are sometimes not my cup of tea, the service is usually quick and easy. I know that I can come here in the morning looking for a fresh cup of coffee to start off my day and head off to work. I would most definitely recommend it. read more
