two eggs over medium, home fries, bacon, black coffee
    Andrew Elias C.

Honestly it's been over a decade since I've been to Kew Gardens. And I'm glad to say, Kew Gardens hasn't changed much. It's still as charming as I remember. Today I came "for business" and arrived an hour early for my appointment. The sky was a gloomy gray, a chill in the air, almost promising rain. So, I thought a nice black coffee (two sugars) would get me primed and ready for my meeting. I walked in search of a Dunkin' and, as I jay-walked across Lefferts, realized I had narrowly missed it. Fortunately there was a diner on my side of the block. And I had time enough to sit and chill and maybe eat. Easy choice. I'd rather support small businesses 100% and who doesn't love a good diner? Fortunately this was one of the good ones. I was greeted as soon as I came in (my glasses fogging over my mask) and was told to take a seat anywhere. Within three minutes my table was wiped clean, a menu was put in my hand, and coffee brought to my table. I also ordered two eggs over medium and bacon. This came with toast and wonderfully cooked home fries (sautéed green peppers and onions included). It didn't take long at all to get my food. I was served extra coffee and water. And I left there feeling glad and energized with just enough time to make my 11:30 appointment. What a genuinely pleasant spot in a pleasant neighborhood of the city's most underrated borough.

Extremely run-of-the-mill. My eggs Benedict was cooked correctly but the English muffin wasn't toasted properly and the hollandaise sauce was nothing special. I requested potatoes extra crispy and that's how they came out. The over-easy eggs were a little overcooked and one was broken and the French toast was nothing special. Basically if you're in the area, needing a decent breakfast at a decent price with somewhat friendly service, this is the place to go.

Two eggs, potatoes and Canadian bacon.

While I commend the owner and sincerely wish him success in his new endeavor, unfortunately, the food left a lot to be desired. The menu seemed promising at first glance, but when our meals arrived, the quality just didn't match the expectations. My wife's eggs were the shining star (but it's hard to mess up). Her corned beef hash was not homemade and definitely came from a tin can. More over, her hash browns didn't taste right, which is surprising for a breakfast diner. I had turkey with gravy, mash, and corn nibbles. Turkey was ok but the gravy was bitter and off taste (not homemade). The mash was okay but stirred to be too creamy. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere has potential, but if the food doesn't improve, I'm not sure we'll be back. I really hope they work out these issues, as it would be great to have a reliable breakfast spot in the neighborhood.

The food and service will definitely have us going back for more. This is definitely my new favorite diner in Queens. The coffeee bar, to the railway vibes and decorations and painting on the wall was absolutely amazing. So unique and I love it because the tracks use to run right along that avenue in Maspeth, so the name has a story behind it. You can still hear the train at night sometimes! Absolutely amazed!

I really enjoyed lunch at this place! They've recently rebranded to Austin Street Cafe/Bar & Grill…read more- and they have a sort of diner-esque vibe with a full-service bar ($7 happy hour cocktails!!!) They started us off with a croissant on the house, which was pretty good. Nice attention to detail as it was served with a heart-shaped side of butter. Also part of their happy hour menu are a couple select bar bites. I went for the chicken quesadillas, and it was a hearty portion at their price point. And it had a great flavor - chicken was nice and juicy. Natalie was our server, and was very attentive and friendly throughout our time here. And just when we thought it couldn't get better, Natalie and the manager brought us some cookies on the house to take home. Nothing but praise to be sung about this spot - I hear they're looking into possibly incorporating live music next. Will definitely be back - two thumbs up!

I heard him making jokes with customers and asking people for feedback. Now to the rest of it: service is weird and slow. When we were seated, we had to wait a little bit until receiving menus. Water wasn't automatically given to us also, so you have to ask. A woman took down our order, but later asked if we got waffles, even though I said pancakes - overall took 25 minutes to get our order of a salad and pancakes. Pancake platter came with two pancakes, two eggs, and a couple berries on the side. There's also an option to add sausage or bacon but no price there, which adds to the confusion. When we pointed it out, they removed the charge from our bill. There were maybe 3 people who stood behind the coffee bar which is kind of around a corner, making it hard to get service if you're not in their field of vision. Kind of strange there isn't a clear welcoming desk or something like that. Also, I think the menu uses AI as photos - there's a picture of a burger with fries and chips, but I don't think they serve chips. There's also a picture of cake with garlic next to it, which could be an artistic choice. We didn't get any drinks, but there was a table next to us who abandoned their full cups of Nutella lattes which was interesting.

But the really beauty is that it looks like an old school diner, it's just far enough the beaten path, that it's regulars coming here. BRING CASH! My sister has wheels so I hit her up and we hit the road. We ended up grabbing lunch but I want to return for brunch. I loved the old school aesthetic from the outside and all the details on the inside. THE BETTY BOOPSSSSS are the absolute best! I could not get enough. Didn't take too long for a table, maybe 15 minutes. It's popular for those who know. We got seated in the back. Out waiter was nice but new so there was a couple miscommunications but it was all good. He was in training. Judging by the people around us, they knew what they wanted. They came over and gave us pickles for the table. My sister was not a fan, so I did not partake. The father/son duo next to us got entrees but shared pancakes and the son got a milkshake. I think next time, I need to take their lead. I got a fish filet sandwich and my sister for a tuna salad sandwich with fries. I had potato salad but her fries were better. My sandwich was yummy on a brioche role and avocado slices. I loved it. I really can't wait to return. I told everyone I know about this place! May it last for many more decades ahead! The service was great and everyone working at this diner were very friendly and accommodating, as well as attentive. There is a Happy Hour menu that we skipped because we were still on the clock, but it is worth checking out in the future. HH starts at 2PM... Anyway, we shared mozzarella sticks that were quite delicious. I say this because I am not a fan, but did enjoy these because they were crispy, light and a little buttery. The marinara sauce was well seasoned, and worthy of a nice pasta. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. We finished with burgers, which were quite large, filling and tasty. There are many burger options but I chose to build my own. I could only eat half but enjoyed it with half steak fries/half onion rings. The burger was not over seasoned, juicy, thick and cooked perfectly. It was so good ketchup was unnecessary. The menu has many options that I would not mind coming back to try out.
