I went here right after I moved in. My brother-in-law and my sister went with me. I ordered the pasta alla vodka. It was disgusting. Like someone poured vodka and tomato sauce over the pasta, without cooking the sauce at all. It was watery and horrible. I asked if I could get another dish, when asked why, I told the server that it tasted like pure vodka was poured onto my pasta and I didn't like it. The server told me that he would have to charge me for my meal and whatever new thing I wanted too. So I sat there watching my brother-in-law choke down his sandwich. There was too much to full enjoy the experience and quality of the food. The portions were tremendous but met the price of a New York Diner pricing system. Been coming to this location since I was 5 years old. These people are degrading, rude & unapologetic. The receptionist, I believe her name is "Ann" has to be the nastiest person I have ever encountered. Not only did she yell and get nasty with me in front of EVERYONE who was eating this afternoon, she was disrespectful. I CALLED in and ordered 1 order of eggs, bacon, sausage and home fries. And 1 order of bacon, eggs & French fries, when I come to pay $27.80. I was SHOCKED. $27.80? I ask her why was this priced so high. She was rude and said it was the extra bacon. I've been coming here for years and never paid this much for 2 plates. I ask if she can refund me for the bacon because it was too much, I believe they were over charging me. She begins to argue saying it's not her job to inform me of the price. She kept telling me she doesn't want to speak to me but keeps talking OVER me and belittling me. She then decides to tell a waitress to take off the bacon from the order. She comes back with my stuff. When I'm in the car I realize they took bacon off of every order and the side order. 4 slices of bacon: $5. I went back in and she gets even nastier. I think she thinks she's better than me and the manager was disgusting informing me and my sister to take off the bacon from my food and serve it to someone else is an issue they have to deal with, last time I checked that's unsanitary and unnecessary to say. So many years and memories here to finally realize that these people don't care about your business or loyalty. Take your money to IHOP, Atlantic diner, Classic diner or even the Corner store deli. Only giving a star for the wait staff. Menu is fairly broad and all over the place. Lacking in vegetarian items. Very odd bathroom that a person could easily get hit in the face by a stall door. My food was barely cooked. When we received our check the waitress went home and no one at the table could read her awful shorthand. I went and asked the cashier/host if he could help us read it. I was greeted with a very sour attitude. He said he was too busy to help, he couldn't read it either, and we had to either split 5 ways or pay it all on one card. I have to say, Esquire Diner has been a favorite of mine since I was a young girl. My father used to take me here every morning when he was getting his morning cup of coffee (which he continues to do) and since then, the service and the food itself has only improved for the better. The servers do their best to be as kind and helpful as they can be, and there is never much of a wait-time for food. Not only that, but to compliment their homey-style renovations, and the food itself is exactly what the folks around the neighborhood are looking for. Always served hot, and exactly how you ask, there isn't much of a competition around here, what with my bad experiences at Cross-Bay Diner, this is the only option.. This is one of my favorite diners. The food in this place is amazing. As soon as you walk in to the establishment the workers greet you as if you one of there own the are very clean and respectful. The party we had was about 8 they didnt have a section big enough for us so they made one. The waiter came to us and started of with a smile asked us how we are doing and what we would like we all ordered and she didnt mess up once plus she changed alot of stuff on the menu to fit our needs. I ordered the french onion soup when it came out my mouth was watering so much everyone on the table was so jealous. I took my first sip and I fell in love this waa the perfect meal for a cold night not to mention I was very drunk but lets not get off subject after everyone got there meal she came back periodically to check and see if we needed anything like a refill or something else. Went today for some breakfast. The staff was very welcoming and friendly which is a major plus. I came in craving eggs and pancakes but they had no dishes/combo's that offered both together so I had to order two orders one for an omelette and another for pancake short stack. The omelette was very tasty and fresh. The pancakes were also very good. Overall the food is very good but not outstanding. It was a saturday night, me and my friend always frequent diners including this one quite often. There was one person working the floor and the cash register at the same time, a latin guy with glasses. We sit, and we are watching some sports highlights on my cellphone (possibly the volume was a little loud) and all of a sudden we hear a slam of plates and forks in two booths behind us, followed by cussing and mother F*** words. At first I look at my friend and tell him to ignore it because we don't know what kind of psycho this is, then, he comes up to OUR booth and yells at us in such an aggressive/abusive manner to lower my F*** cellphone! We did because we didn't want any problems, but we did let the guy know this was inappropriate. So why is me and my friend upset about the establishment? Well, we go here as regulars, we tip really good and we try to support this business ALL the time. They know us very well. After this psychopath left, not ONE person in the diner asked us what happened, or acknowledged this. Even a general apology (not looking for a sorry but at least some awareness! my God.). They have literally lost 2 GREAT customers who tip very well because of the lack of professionalism handled here, even well after the man left. It's a precarious situation and we do understand that, but no establishment ever should just outright ignore a potentially dangerous situation that could have occurred, even after the fact. We felt uncomfortable and quite frankly afraid to come here again based on how unprofessional of a response we got even AFTER the fact. I went here because it was the only diner around my area. And it's not bad at all. The customer service is great. You enter the dinner on either crossbay Blvd or on 97th street and rockaway. You're greeted and seated by a waiter then offered free coffee or water, until your meals arrive. Their menu lacks diversity since they only serve Italian food. I guess that's because it's an Italian diner but that's not a given until you're actually in the place. The only reason their not getting a five star review from me is because of their prices. Very interesting here. The food pretty much is hit or miss, but pretty much is a miss. The service here is absolutely horrible. Most of the workers, even the waiters, cannot speak English. This isn't the first time we've been nickeled and dimed at this diner. Last year we had an argument with the night manager over an $18 charge for a chicken cutlet on a bed of iceberg lettuce. NOT a Greek or garden, or Caesar or even a tossed salad) A SIMPLE BED OF ICEBERG...$18. Same thing, Night manager said they had to bill it as Chicken Caesar Salad, that's the way the owners want it. After a really long red-eye flight, I had a hankering for something greasy and tasty. Off to Esquire Diner I went and I succumbed to my desires. I truly would've eaten anything at that moment, so it's no surprise I found my sweet potato fries delectable. I scarfed those things down like a pack of hungry hyenas, and was left with nothing but an empty plate when I remembered to take a picture for Yelp. My husband, brother, and cousin that accompanied me on my diner run weren't as impressed. This was always my go-to diner, but over the past few years it seems to be going downhill. Upon arrival we were escorted to the back of the restaurant...mind you the waitresses were sitting in the booths. We sat at a table and everyone that followed in were escorted to our area in the back as well. It felt like we were sitting on top of one another. No privacy at all and the waitresses had a hard time serving food to us because there was no room to move around.. It was also cold and drafty. Our dinners came out on small plates.... coleslaw, veggies, salad.... The waitress have a hard time putting my coffee cup on the table... and she was not very pleasant.....nor was our dining experience.
