I went to the District Heights location for my appointment today and the owner did a horrible job cleaning my teeth. She was extremely rough and hurt my gums. My mouth was very gritty afterwards and she didn't offer me mouthwash. I had to ask her to put the suction tube in my mouth during the cleaning. I had to ask her did I have cavities because she didn't rely that information, just told me I was done. I don't even think she checked for cavities. I asked the ladies at the front desk was she a new dentist and was told she's the owner and a pediatrician who was just helping out. No wonder she did such a horrible job. I am writing to you to make a formal complaint against (dental clinic names) regarding my experience with their staff and the dental work (including work, appointments, communications, etc) that has been performed, and/or should have been performed for my dental concerns. I've been extremely dissatisfied with the patient care, lack of regard and sympathy, and the inability to receive a proper timeline during and for my care. They have failed to provide me with satisfactory services. I have detailed the process below. I've previously had pain in my teeth and made an appointment for a dental exam with (Essence Dental). My first two appointments with this clinic were April 1st and April 18th, 2024. During these two visits, I had my exam completed, a diagnosis given, and my treatment plan created. I was told I needed to have 5 teeth extracted, which they were. I was also told my gums needed to heal before my fitting of implants, which would take 2 weeks. An appointment was made for 4 weeks later, instead of the original 2 weeks due to availability of staff. In May 2024, during each of those visits (May 9th, 20th, and 23rd), I was told different information regarding the timeline of my fitting, and later on, for my implants to arrive. With each interaction with the dental clinic staff, staff were very unprofessional and did not demonstrate compassion for my questions and concerns. I was met with unhelpful information, timelines different than previously told, and frustration in their tone. I was also given more and more appointments with little to no information on why I needed those appointments; still met without a date for arrival of my implants. It is now August 2024, and I still do not have an answer, a correct timeline, or my implants. I'm also still greeted with unprofessional and unhelpful staff. This journey began April 1, 2024, and it has caused nothing but frustration and a financial strain for me and my family due to my original dental concerns and having to miss a lot of work due to the many pointless appointments. I am sharing these concerns to show how the lack of regard for a patient's care can lead to detrimental states on all parties. I have been patient and kind from day one of entering this clinic, and even in my own frustrations throughout this process. read more

Are you an involved parent? Do you care about the details of your childs' medical/dental care? Do you ask questions to best understand what will be happening with your childs' care plan? THEN THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR YOU. For our initial appointment, we were scheduled for 2pm. We didn't get seen until 2:45 pm, and that was ONLY because I asked. When I asked, the reception realized she hadn't given me the new patient paperwork. I asked if that was why we hadn't been seen yet. She said no, but that had to be the reason because we were seen 10 minutes later. Ok, so we get to the back to get X-rays and initial cleaning. No real complaints, but we were told we needed to see the pediatric specialist because of the type of work my son might need, and that she'd be the best one to determine what exactly he needed. We come back on a Tuesday to see Dr. Larosiliere. By far, one of the worst medical/dental interactions I've ever had. The appointment was for 9am. We got to the back around 9:10am. The assistant (who was the glue that held the entire situation together, because I was automatically given short lipped answers by the doctor when she finally got to the room) proceeds to set the room up for his fill ins and possible tooth extraction. I (never having to consider tooth extraction for any of my other 3 children) had a lot of questions about his down time to heal, possible issues down the road with tooth spacing due to it being a baby tooth that would be removed, and plans for his other cavities. The doctor was so short and rude that by the time I got to my questions about the other teeth that needed fillings, she threw her hands up and said "Well I'm not going to force you either way. You can make whatever decision you want to make." She then storms out of the room. I call my husband to see what he wants to do, and not only was I told that I couldn't speak on the phone (which was held to my head so no one else could hear even him), but I was told that since it was now 9:45 and I had took so much time talking and asking questions, that they were only going to do two fill ins because the Dr. had a 10am patient. Ummm..... what???? So, you slotted an hour to CONSULT for 6 year old who possibly needs two extractions and multiple fill ins, provide NITROUS OXIDE AND A NUMBING SHOT WITH TIME FOR IT TO KICK IN, ANNNNNDDDD to PERFORM said procedures.... In an HOUR????????!!?!?! Ok.... So then I tell the assistant that I think we should at least do the extraction for the worst tooth so that it doesn't further spread inside to the nerves.... No update. They both come in the room, but the nitrous mask on my son and the Dr. tells him to open his mouth. She said nothing to me and gave me no update on what we were completing today. So I asked, what was the plan for the day. The doctor blurts out rudely that she was only doing to fill ins. Huh???!?!?! So you weren't even going to speak to me first to confirm??? I told her to take the mask off of him. We left. The ONLY positive thing I have to say is that the assistant kept the conversation pleasant and was the only reason I was going to move forward with the doctor in the first place. I didn't catch her name. You would think that with the doctor being a black woman, you'd get a little more leniency with having questions and skepticism regarding traditional western medical care, but obviously not with Dr. Larosiliere. I'd even venture to say SHE DOESNT LIKE CHILDREN OR HER PROFESSION. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT. read more

I'm giving them 1 star because I have no choice. The front desk staff are rude & unorganized. The staff do not know the 1st thing about appointment setting & pre authorizations. You have to contact the office to follow up with them about work you need done, when the staff stated they would contact you. The turn over is awful only thing consistent is the female dentist. But she be overwhelmed it seems like from so many patients that her work is rushed & sloppy. The dentist will start working on your teeth & leave to go work on someone else have you sitting for so long. It's already uncomfortable having your mouth open smh. If I could rate the service lower I would! They are very sorry staffed. Yes, when you go in one would think they have a lot of staff, wrong they're not Dentist and thus is not capable moving to do anything without the dentist. If you're looking for a dentist to take care of your teeth and put the patient first this is not the place! I suggest you keep moving. Essence is about insurance claims and money, the customer is last! Great commercials including look, but they suck! Starting with the Orthodontist who only is available once a week. If I was able to give them 0 stars I would because I went in on Friday last week because my teeth on my left side were hurting and I had met a young lady who recommended this place because I had a bad experiences last year with a dentist and was having trouble trusting afterwards. On Friday my teeth were cleaned and when I got home my teeth were bleeding really bad for hours and when I called the office to see how I should handle it there voice mail was full and no emergency number so I ended up in the hospital because the bleeding won't stop. And I later relieved that also one of my teeth had been broken during the cleaning and I was sent out without her telling me anything. Monday I went into the office and spoke with the manager who said the doctor was not there and she would have him call me on Tuesday and 4 pm I hadn't heard anything so I called they to be put on hold for 20 minutes and someone picked up and took my number saying they were having a meeting to discuss my situation and will call me back and the sad thing is that it's Friday and no one has contacted me at all read more

I love Essence Dental Care! I have been a patient for many years and have referred my entire family. The office is nice and clean. The location and parking are convenient. Chanel is amazing. She has been my hygienist for years and always does a very thorough job cleaning my teeth. She is sweet, knowledgable, and very gentle. Today, Dr. White did my examination and had various helpful recommendations to improve my oral health. He is very professional, engaging, and informative. I definitely look forward to continuing to have him as my Dentist. I highly recommend Essence and foresee being a happy patient for many years to come. read more

I have loved the atmosphere here until today I was threatened by the supervisor ms terry after explaining to her I just came in for an appointment and had my cleaning and was given a appointment for fillings before I left and I didn't have the time and day anymore , she stated to me there was no appointment and she couldn't do anything about it ! This is stressful after awaiting two weeks for my teeth , I was then told to calm down with frustration or I would be banned for the facility for speaking the truth about my appointment and as I had her on speakerphone I was recording her , as I'm speaking to my mom she said ma'am don't threaten me with the law I will end this call as I said ma'am I am not taking to you she got loud and hung up ! I called back and asked for cooperative information and they told me that if I didn't want to take what she was giving me for appointments she would have me removed from calling for service! I have never dealt with anything like this here ever MS TERRY IS THE SUPERVISOR!! I called another location and they transferred me to district heights again !! Bad service!! Ms terry just decided to call and yell at my mother to calm the bad communication she just had and still have horrible attitude and say the same thing we just settled on the phone after her bad service!! My experience at Essence Dental Care was the absolute worst I've had in my entire life. The ladies at the front desk may have been the best part of the visit. The dental hygienist was a little rough with my head, and either the water jet wasn't properly functioning or she wasn't the best at using it. I can count a few times when water from the jet ran from my mouth onto my neck. The straw that broke the camel's back, however, was how long I waited for the dentist to arrive after the hygienist finished. At all my past dental visits, I've had to wait no more than five minutes for the dentist to arrive. This time though...let's just say that by the time the hygienist finished there were 30 minutes left in the Ellen show. I waited, waited, and waited until I got another employee's attention to ask when the dentist was coming to see me. The 4 o'clock news was on by this point and I know I would've waited even longer had I not spoken up. I honestly just want more black-owned and operated businesses to set and maintain higher customer service standards. It truly makes a difference in the perception of your business and will encourage more repeat customers who want, not so much need, to patronize your business. read more

First I like to say I was recommended to this dental office by my mother. I was pleased that there was a dentist office near my home. Don't get me wrong the people here are wonderful. My first visit I was a walk in I waited about a hr before I got an extra done . I was pleased. I then scheduled an apt for about 3 weeks later and it was set for 9:00am. I come in I wait about 5mins before I was seen. Things were going well but then they have only one dentist on site today and SEVERAL patients. The doctor on site isn't familiar with a lot of things on site so it's slowing down her process. I've been here for two hrs and I'm no where near done my root canal. I won't rant to much. I just wish they're way of doing things where a little more effective. Asking someone are they ok after sitting for a long periods of time is nice but umm NO. A 90min root canal turned into a all day thing is ridiculous. I'm looking to get my crown done elsewhere. read more

When i went I had hope. The staff in the front was nice. But i quickly found out otherwise. One that x-rayed my teeth said I was perfectly fine, and i simply needed a cleaning. I then sat in the chair for 2 hours. I know it was two hours, mainly because i watched an entire movie. They spent more time chalking up conversations about last nights fun, compared to tending to a patient. When I met with the dentist. The story they told me did not align with the story that my x rays revealed. I sat for two hours and received no treatment. They wanted me to come back, but i refused. I then contacted a few other dentists. Even visited some and had the same process done. Every other dentists explanation of my teeth did not align with essence dental care. I was basically told by many other dental offices that they are below the board, and if that sub par. I will not be returning to Essence dental care. And, by the looks of it. This is the MOST GHETTO dental practice I have ever encountered. They have given me multiple patients information without verifying whether it is the correct patient. Nicole Makle is the Regional Manager as well as Jessica who is the manager of WOODVIEW dental and they were very nasty. They insisted on placing braces on a patient without a consult and with out completing the dental work that the Dentist said that the patient would need first. I can't even rate them a 1 because this is the worst dentist office I have ever been to in my life. I started a root canal in April of this year and Sept. 30th (today) I STILL do not have my crown. The staff is oblivious to what their jobs are because every time I go in there, they are either outside playing around in front of the building or they are sitting behind the front counter gossiping. I have gone back 3 times to get my crown and there has always been some kind of an issue (either it didn't fit properly or it just wasn't there). The last time I went back to get my crown was Aug. 9th (this was after a month of waiting). After I FINALLY (after waiting in the lobby 30 mins) went back to see the dentist, which was not even my regular dentist, he goes to get the crown and there was no crown sent from the lab because the impression was bad so they couldn't make it. Now, you would think someone would have called me to tell me I needed to come back in to do it over but of course they didn't. I told the dentist this was my third time coming back and I started the process in April and he and the assistants assured me they would put a rush on it (a week). That didn't happen, I finally got fed up and called them last week Friday, Sept. 23rd, to request my money back. The assistant manager said the manager would call me on Mon. Sept. 26th to discuss my refund and the process of receiving it. And of course no phone call on Mon. Then they had the nerve to call me on Thursday (yesterday Sept. 29th) to tell me my crown was there and asked if I wanted to make an appointment to get it put on! SMH Then Porsha was trying to tell me that they would refund my credit card that I told her has been replaced with a new card or MAYBE they will cut me a check. She said the owner had to do it and she will not be there until Wednesday, as if she doesn't have a cell phone. We will see what happens with this but I am getting my money back! And another thing, the dental hygienist the wears the Muslim attire is the worst! DO NOT LET HER CLEAN YOUR TEETH!! She will have your gums bleeding and sore. I arrive at the office on time, was told to wait 30 mins in an empty lobby as I listen to the two ratchet receptionist have a conversation. I go in the back finally and the lady is like let's get your teeth cleaned. I'm like there must be some mistake as I had my teeth cleaned at another dentist and just need an extraction. She says we have to clean your teeth as it's your first time here. We go back and forth and she's like okay, just let me scrap it with this hand tool thingy (she called it something else but you get the point). She half ass clean my teeth and then left. After 15 mins, a tech comes in to numb my mouth, he does a good job as I'm ready to go and the pain has finally subsided. I fall asleep and get awaken by the dentist. So she goes in to touch my teeth and I'm like it's not numb anymore. So I look at my watch and I've literally been asleep for a hour. Now I'm pissed. She's like lets renumb you and get the tooth out but I'm going to send another dentist that can assist you cause I don't pull out teeth in the back. So why would you touch my teeth then! So the other dentist comes in, sticks a needle in my jaw forcefully and it does not work so he does it again, then starts to pull my tooth. Talk about extreme pain! I jump out the chair and ask for the office manager now cause this is absurd as I done been here for 4 hours with nothing done and my mouth hurts worse due to their incompetent staff. I went to healthy dental in penn station shopping center instead who gave me medicine until the next morning when they pulled the tooth out with no problems. All in all, don't go to essence dental, terrible service. Read their Yelp, google and Facebook reviews, they are telling the truth. Straight trash. read more

DO NOT..... This dental office claimed to take children on Fridays, with their "pediatric dentist", so being that I would like to support my community, I thought that it would be o.k. for my children to go somewhere nearby, with a dental office that took care of their teeth, and is able to teach them a thing or two about dental health. BOY WAS I WRONG! My children both had cleanings the 2nd week of January. (My son also had a cavity filled, and a cap placed on his tooth) By the first week of March, my son's cap came off, and my 4 year old began complaining about tooth pain. Now, this is a shocker, because most kids don't complain about any pain, you just find out by their actions! No but my 4 year old was literally holding her face, complaining that her mouth hurts. And my 7 year old was holding his cap in his hand. I rush to the office to make an urgent appointment for both of them on a Monday morning, at least for someone to place the cap back on, and at least for her to be seen urgently (Call the Pediatric Dentist in to look at this child's tooth, adults know what tooth pain feels like, children should not have to experience that same pain-right?!) They rudely look at my son's missing capped tooth, and comment "well the cavity is covered, and you'll have to wait for the dentist on Friday!" Not even acknowledging the other smaller child's pain, but by simply saying, "Just come back Friday!" We return Friday on time, they took an x-ray that resembles a selfie of your teeth, (basically not useful), and say "oh we can't do anything with your 4 year old right now (the one in pain, that NOW won't eat), she needs to have a sedative, and we will have to call your insurance to see what is covered!" They don't help my son with the missing cap, they then say, "oh it looks like he has an infection in one of his other teeth!" (Still not sure how that was verified with the terrible x-ray they took), they ultimately dismissed us, and gave my son an antibiotic...NOT MY YOUNGEST the one in active pain! By Saturday we ended up in Children's Hospital, for the one that was in active pain, we left the ER with an antibiotic, she had an actual infection with a visible puss pocket surrounding her tooth. We end up at A REAL PEDIATRIC DENTIST and it turns out, my son didn't need a cap, because that tooth is preparing to fall out (he's turning 8 years old), and my daughter an a tooth that was infected so much, they had to pull it, (due to a gaping hole on the backside of it; and another tooth needed a root canal! HOW DID THIS OFFICE MISS THIS? I HAVE NO CLUE!....well again, because CLEARLY the x-ray was useless!!! They then charged my husband's card in March when we received NO SERVICE, NO PRESCRIPTION, and have yet to refund us and April is next week. They have yet to call back to check on or schedule an appointment for my child that was in pain, (as they said they would after "checking to see what insurance covered"), they just left us! DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT...unless you want your money just taken for receiving service from the C Students, then feel free. But if they treat children in this manner, how will they service adults?! SN: My son has had similar service on another tooth from a REAL PEDIATRIC DENTIST almost 2 years now, and that cap HAS NOT FALLEN OFF YET!! BEWARE. ...unless you like receiving half-assed service, then have at it. But tooth health is just as important as heart health!! read more

Horrible experience!  I arrived on time (actually a couple minutes early) for a 9am appointment to have a tooth extracted. As I arrived, so did about six or seven other patients, all scheduled for 9am appointments. My assumption was that because I had scheduled an extraction/surgical procedure, I would have a dentist for a sufficiently allotted amount of time to perform my procedure, and therefore my appointment would not be affected by the number of patients who had arrived. I was taken back to a chair/room relatively quickly, which made me feel even more certain that I would be out of there in no time.  The dentist came in and spoke with me, local anesthesia was administered, and it seemed we would be getting started with no hang ups.... After having the area of my extraction site numbed I was told that we would "give it (the anesthesia) a few minutes" to kick in. This was not unusual to me. I thought a 10-15 minute wait was reasonable and pretty standard, HOWEVER, it took over an hour for the dentist to come back (about an hour and 10 mins)!!  Fifty minutes into my wait, a staff member came and apologized for the wait. She informed me that there was only one dentist in the office, and she turned the TV on in my room. (It would have been nice to have the TV on from the beginning of my wait, but that's not really the issue).  I spent a total of 2 hours and 48 minutes in the office only to be referred to an oral surgeon to complete the procedure due to the root of my tooth being embedding in my sinus - a fact that should have been taken into consideration before the extraction began.  After speaking with another dentist (different office), it seems that an examination of my x-rays at my consultation visit should have provided this fact and the entire procedure could/should have been referred to an oral surgeon.  Instead I have paid for a "simple extraction" at Essence Dental and will now have to pay again for a second/follow up extraction by the surgeon.  One procedure would have costs me less time, less money, and a shorter healing time.  I could not get an appointment with the referred oral surgeon until two days later but after 2 days my gums had begun healing nicely, unfortunately though, the oral surgeon had to perform the second procedure and the healing process had to begin all over again. Needless to say I will visit a different dentist for my follow-up.  Though I am not a doctor, my time is valuable too!! (As is my money) read more

My opinion this dental office is the worse, I will never go back or recommend them to anyone. I refuse to let a doctors or dentist office waste my time. We had a 10:30 appt time arrived at 10:15. The appt was made 3 months ago. One child was called back but had not been seen and my other child still waiting they signed in together with the same appt time. Why were other people being called before my child. I asked how much longer and was told they have six providers so it shouldn't be much longer, but yet we were still waiting. Its not just Essence Dental Care, its Dr. Patrick Larosiliere who owns this establishment with his wife. My story is too long to tell but I never write reviews but I wouldn't wish my experience on my enemy. I honestly trust the providers I choose but Essence Dental Care literally ruined my life. My smile was the envy of all my friends (I also use to model). After Dr. Pactrick Larosiliere suggested that I correct a small issue with my teeth., I signed up for ortho care. Currently, I have three teeth missing that is very visible. He cracked 5000$ veneers in the process and abandoned my care. Not to mention, I paid for 80% of the services up front. Please, I beg you, educate yourself on dental/orthodontist care and Never Never go to him or his wife. Beware that he has more than 1 location. Before beginning services, make sure you asked who the dentists are. If you see the name Larosiliere...run. Don't second guess, just run and research another dentists! and please don't take your children there. This dentist lacks empathy and compassion and your children deserves a better doctor! read more
