I originally called EIW for a bid on a new railing, but while Ben was here I asked about something I've always wanted: an awning for my front door area. Ben said he could design it, even though my front door is in a turret and involves curvature. He designed the railing and the support for the awning to match (incorporating flowers and embellishments to mirror my garden), and added a sheet metal roof (nicely powder coated) with a subtle gutter to replace the one that had to be removed to attach the awning. His workers were great and the front door area of my 1929 Tudor has been greatly improved due to this project. It was a bit of a leap of faith to take and I'm glad I did it. read more

We hired them to fabricate a railing and they did a wonderful job with the end product. However, in the process of test fitting the handrail, they scuffed and dinged a few portions of the wall. I imagine this is part of the process and should be also addressed by them. "No, this is not our problem," was what they told us over the phone. I recently completed a very large hand rail project with Estate Iron Work, a family-run business owned by Ben and Pam Schreiner. From start to finish I had a very positive experience. We needed curved hand railing down our very long and winding path to our house on the beach in West Seattle, as well as to both of our guest houses. After reading their on-line reviews, I called Pam, who said if I were looking for curved hand rails, I had come to the right place, as that was their specialty. She was so friendly on the phone that I instantly had a good feeling, and she scheduled her husband Ben to pay a site visit within a couple of days. An experienced metal fabricator, Ben simply paced off my linear feet, and gave me a bid right on the spot, followed the next day by artist sketches of the final look. So impressed with Ben's knowledge, creative ideas, artistic eye, intricate design of a wrought iron railing that perfectly complemented the style of our 1928 home, and very reasonable bid, I chose not to look elsewhere. I quickly made a 50% deposit to get in cue on his 8-10 week waiting list. When our turn came, Ben assigned Austin, his lead fabricator, to supervise the job. Under Austin's expert guidance, the crew was amazing--bending metal on site, framing up and welding the railings in place, so they would fit perfectly. Watching this group of skilled craftsman work was such an education in the amount and variety of labor that goes into a project of this scope. Once framed and in place, off the railing went to the shop for further fabrication, polishing, and fine tuning before going to the powder coater's. Then back on site for final installation. This company is very professional, keeps a tidy work place, focuses on safety, and delivers more than promised. We now have railings that are not only functional, but beautiful with old world charm--one-of-a kind in design and detail, the work of true craftsmen. We are very pleased Estate Iron Work completed our project; an iron stair rail for our front entrance porch. It required a tight horizontal bend around a curve along with following the stair steps and two levels. We discussed our requirements and Ben initiated the design. I hired Estate Iron Work to put in a custom steel handrail leading up to our front steps. We had a rather unique situation with the steps that led up to our front door. I was unsure if a handrail was even be possible. Everyone, from the lovely lady who answered the phone to the gentleman who came out to do the estimate (and show us samples), were friendly and informative. The crew that came out to measure and install were efficient and knowledgeable and cleaned up the metal shavings. My husband went outside a couple of times during installation to make sure that the railing was installed to our liking (always a good idea to check with the installers to make sure they know exactly what you want). The result is that we have a simple, but beautiful railing, and no longer have to worry about tripping on our weird steps (our steps are not code..circa 1975). We were offered a choice of colors and the type of finish, either an enamel coating or a powder coating. So glad we went with the powder coating. It is very durable, has a bit of texture to it and is a matte finish. It was worth the extra money. I did not seek to get a second bid as I had done my research on Estate Iron Work and found this company had a good track record. I was not disappointed. read more

We live in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle. I contacted two companies for a small porch handrail estimate. Estate Iron Work responded right away, and before I even returned their phone call to set a time to meet, someone from Estate Iron Work came to my house and left a proposed design and estimate, which was waiting for me when I returned home. Wow! Great response time and we liked their drawing the best. It was just-right in terms of design for the 1928 house, and where the railing would connect to the house and the steps landing. They were able to provide addresses of a couple other completed jobs they had done in my neighborhood so I could drive by and see those. The work was done on time, and we gladly paid them for an extra offered service of power washing the steps and porch, and they went the extra mile to really get it clean.
