This place is not closed. It's located inside the Sofitel hotel. We went there for breakfast and it was great! Service was super friendly, buffet looked high quality and fresh. There's a little kids table that's low to the ground and has chocolate muffins, cookies, and waffles. There's also some sort of donut wall. See pic. I made a reservation 1 week in advance for three of us last Friday night. We drove an hour in traffic to arrive on time only to be told that the restaurant was closed for a private event. I have never made reservations before at a restaurant where they didn't have the courtesy to call me and notify me of this change so that I could make different arrangements. I stay at this hotel often and have only had breakfast here before. The breakfast is very good and the service is excellent. I decided to try the dinner as it had been a long day, a cold night and the menu looked acceptable if slightly overpriced. The food was NOT good. The Caesar salad was over dressed and obviously had not been properly washed. It was extremely gritty. The catch of the day, sea bass, came smothered in a white sauce they called a beurre blanc was a flavorless paste that masked whatever flavor the overcooked fish may have had. I'll go back for breakfast. It's a short walk to many far better restaurants for dinner. read more

My family from out of town were staying at Sofitel so we decided to have Saturday brunch there this past weekend. The decor and ambiance for the brunch was beyond adorable (french themed) and the outdoor patio was the epitome of what a brunch in Los Angeles should resemble. However, I was fairly disappointed with the lack of flavor in most of the dishes. The omelette was bland and nothing special. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to dine here again in the near future compared to the other dining spots in west Los Angeles. Came back three weeks ago to treat one of my nieces for birthday brunch. This place has a nice patio. We enjoyed dining there even though there was a heat wave. So anyway, my nieces each had Eggs Benedict, and I had . . . the Salmon Eggs Benedict. It came with a side dish so I ordered the Garlic Kale. The Garlic Kale was quite a good serving but it did not taste anything special. It was just so-so. It's a romantic and lovely dining room, there is a patio as well. The service here was exceptional. We were promptly greeted and the host and server both explained the Breakfast table (buffet) was new and $25pp. I like that they tell you right away. We weren't in the mood for too much food, so we opted for an a la carte breakfast. Our kind server also let us know that they will serve off the room service menu too, so we ordered -French Press coffee $12 - lovely brew, second cup was darker which we prefer -Corned Beef Hash (all house made and fresh! not canned!) $16 - this was wonderful. The corned beef was sliced the size of the potato hash, and cooked with the hash, so some pieces were crispy and some were soft - we liked that it had a crusty layer then a soft layer. Two poached eggs served on top. Side of sourdough bread was absolutely scrumptious - housemade as well. and the Yogurt Parfait - with fresh berries and housemade granola - just delicious - a bit tangy, sweet and crunchy. -a basket of their pastry accompanied a la carte orders - we were so full, we were able to take those home in a gorgeous to go container. We came to L.A. for the Sting concert. We stayed at this hotel because it was convenient. Food was only mediocre. My main complaints: the 4 fried oysters were tiny. They were hidden in a bed of slaw/lettuce. They were about the size of a pea. Also.. the waiter gave us the check. When he sent the check back to be signed, he neglected to bring the itemized bill. I asked for it to see if the gratuity had been added. The gratuity was already included. Had I not asked, I would've paid gratuity twice. read more

All reading this is an honest review from someone who has been equally fancy and horrible restaurants on a regularly basis, while I can tend to be more harsh then less in my reviews, let me preface by establishing that giving this restaurant a 1 star is better than they really deserve. The wife and I went here for Christmas Dinner and literally just got home 2 minutes ago. We had been wanting to try Esterel since we moved to LA 4+ years ago and finally took the plunge and expense for Christmas dinner. Lets start with the good: - We were promptly seated for our reservation with no waiting. - Our waiter checked on us regularly and made sure our glasses were never empty. - The lower tier $13 a glasses of wine were really good. Now the bad: - They were having a Christmas buffet and the menu sounded amazing on paper. However, we were stunned and shocked to find out that the all the main dishes (Halibut, Ham, Ribeye) were all grossly overcooked they all tasted like old socks. Basic cooking technique was missed by the head chef. - Now for the sides; The carrots were grossly under-cooked. The mashed potatoes were average at best (the only thing I found somewhat edible). The brussel sprouts tasted like dirt. The sweet potatoes au gratin tasted like dirty water. - The tomato soup tasted like marina sauce from a C graded pizza shop. - To add insult to injury, all dishes were incredibly under-seasoned. On paper they listed ingredients with incredible complexity yet none of the seasonings were present in the actual dishes we had. At this point my wife and I were upset but as we had ordered two glasses of wine we held out hope that their dessert selection would at least be decent....well we were sorely mistaken and wrong. Every dessert had too much sugar and no complexity, they all tasted like someone bought them from a Ralph's bakery, actually scratch that as desserts at Ralph's are better. End result my wife and I hated the meal and didn't complain as it was Christmas and it wasn't the wait staff or managements fault. It seemed to be the chef/cooks fault. To add insult to injury including tip our check came to nearly $200.00, which would have been fine if the food was good or even halfway decent. Instead this food was a nightmare. Anyways I recommend not going to this restaurant at all costs. It has a fancy name and location and decent wait staff but the food is horrible. I came here hoping to see a real life mystical fairy standing next to a jar of honey and talking Shakespearean to me. Instead, I saw a hummingbird and lots of butterflies. The courtyard looks like a page from a fairytale story book. It would be perfect if prince charming was next to me, pouring tea and cutting the food into tiny pieces before placing into my mouth and seal it with a kiss. Instead, I was with a toad. He annoyed the ghe out of me. That's when Sergio came to my rescue. Sergio quickly brought out my Sparkled wine with Peach puree and a mojito to tame that toad. The other thing is they add the 20% gratuity to the bill and then tax the tip. It seemed kind of strange to us. 3.5 stars. This is a large, modern restaurant within the Sofitel Hotel, across from the Beverly Center. Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable, but he seemed a bit overwhelmed. Perhaps the place was short-staffed, or at least that is how it felt. The best item of the evening was the black mushroom flatbread ($15). It's very rich and earthy with a nice, roasted garlic puree. The legume succotash appetizer ($14), basically polenta with vegetables, was fresh but lacked seasoning. I was disappointed to find out that it was the same accompaniment for the NY steak I ordered. The steak ($34) was executed well but came with a very heavy, salty bordelaise sauce. For dessert, the decedent chocolate tart and creme brulee cheesecake were fine, but not worth $8 each. The meal was good, but there was nothing really special, except for the flatbread. Overall, for what you get, I think the food is overpriced. I would consider getting only appetizers perhaps. Truly one of the most lovely outdoor patios in all of LA! I have been to Esterel for dinner and brunch; both experiences were excellent! I also had my birthday at the Lounge next door (Riviera 31) over the summer which was fantastic (classy and chic without pretension). The food at Esterel is wonderful! For dinner I've had the oysters, heirloom tomato w/burrata salad, and lamb shank, all of which were scrumptious! (See photos!) for dessert you HAVE to get the creme brûlée beignets!! They are an out of this world experience if u have a sweet tooth! Also make sure you try their assortment of breads! For brunch we had The Perfect Breakfast, which is basically a build-your-own omelet, and the salmon Benedict. The Benedict was one of the best I've ever had anywhere, and that's NOT the bottomless Mimosas talking! :) Def a must try if you're in the Beverly Hills area; Esterel's truly a unique and beautiful experience! First things first: this place has amazing service! Every worker at the restaurant was incredibly nice, and made my experience extremely pleasant. The manager even came out and personally greeted us, and her sweetness made us feel incredibly welcome and at ease. As for the food, it was really tasty! I was a big fan of their variety of freshly baked breads to start, and thoroughly enjoyed my steak tartine, too. I even liked their kale salad, and I usually detest kale. And I wish I could have ordered the entire dessert menu, although I was more than pleased with my trio of creme brulees. You get a free flatbread with check-in if you order more than $40 worth of food. My roommate and I did the $20 dineLA lunch each, so our bonus Provençal flatbread made our meal an even better value! My only grievance is that we got charged for expensive iced tea that we didn't order. ("How come nobody else at this restaurant is getting iced tea?" asked my roommate, early on.) However, it was delicious, and combined with the excellent experience we'd had so far, neither of us made a fuss about paying the extra amount. I would also have loved to check out the patio and outdoor lounge--it looked beautiful in the pictures! I came here for DineLA with my friends for lunch. We were warmly greeted by the hostess. The ambiance was very modern and sleek with very low level of noise. Though that could be because it wasn't that busy, we came after the lunch rush. I like the intimate seating with the almost cocoon style booths. Very comfy. The bread basket was divine, there was a good variety of breads that kept my palate happy as we waited on our late friend. It was so good that I basically filled up on bread, which made up for the fact that the portions were very small. I ordered the tuna carpaccio, loved the truffle infused flavor and bit of arugula. It was just a slice of tuna, tiny portion. 3/5 Bouillabaisse had great flavor, the broth was very savory and perfectly seasoned. I liked the presentation and how the chef personally came out to pour the broth into the bowl. The portion was pitifully small with only one piece of fish in it. It was appetizer sized. I loved the broth so much that I used the bread to soak up each drop of it. 4/5 Affogato, you truly cannot screw this up. Expresso over vanilla ice cream with gingersnap cookie. 3/5 Service was top notch. I loved how attentive the hostess and waiter were. I especially loved the personal touch of the chef bringing out our dishes n telling us Bon Appetit. 5/5 I would definitely return for the food and hope dearly the portion sizes are larger next time. I came here for Easter brunch buffet and it was fantastic. We got a great booth outside and spent hours here eating and drinking. My favorite was the lamb legs and salmon although the breakfast area had delicious items as well. The carrot cake at the desert bar was also a stand out. For the price and quantity i thought it was a great deal and selection. I look forward to trying dinner and would definitely recommend and come back. read more

We had a great lunch experience here for DineLA. I made a reservation on Open Table but traffic was bad that day so I called to let them know that my party would be late. They told us to drive safely and that they would hold our reservation. Esterel is located in the upscale Sofitel Hotel right across from the Beverly Center. I parked in the Beverly Center because I read from other Yelp reviews that valet was at least $12. Aint nobody wanna pay $12 to park for less than 2 hours! We parked at the Beverly Center instead since we were going there afterwards anyways. You will still have to pay for parking, but its way cheaper. I think it's $1/hr there. The ambiance is quiet and peaceful here. Service was spot on. Their bread basket was filled with an assortment of breads. They were delicious! Even though we were doing the DineLA menu, they also let us redeem the yelp check in offer for a free flatbread. Our server gave us two for our party of four. We all got the kale salad, carrot soup, tomato soup, and the steak tartarine. I loved the kale salad but my friend said there was a little too much dressing. I thought the carrot soup was too sweet and the tomato soup was too sour. The steak was really tender but I wasn't a fan of the bread it was on. The main reason I chose Esterel was because their desserts on their DineLA menu sounded so good! Our party got the mini creme brulee trios and affogato. We were all really pleased with our desserts. The affogato was strong at first, but after a while, the taste was really great. In all, I really loved my experience here! Came here for Sunday brunch. The outside patio is really beautiful, perfect for a nice weather day. It was not hard to get a reservation and we were seated quickly. The restaurant is inside the Sofitel Hotel. As soon as you come in it is on the right. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Portions are generous and most dishes come with two sides. The garlic kale salad is amazing. I also had the potatoes and they were very good and not greasy at all. The salmon Benedict was cooked to perfection. I can't give this a full review because we only went here for cheese and dessert. So this is a review on that. The restaurant is beautiful for sure - very streamlined and modern. The service was good. Not amazing. But good. The cheese plate was delicious. We got a selection of hard cheeses. The honey comb was very tasty too. But, I mean, how can you really mess up a cheese plate? It was simple and to the point. The pomegranate s'mores were okay. Honestly, when you say "s'mores" I want it to taste like s'mores. And it didn't. It had the elements, but it didn't do the job. The pomegranate overpowered the s'mores. It was more like a pomegranate chocolate. And there wasn't enough graham cracker. Again, it was good and If it was named something else it may have been great. But if you say s'mores, there's a flavor expectation. You know? So, nothing too wrong, just not cup of tea. Now so far this place for me would get 3.5 stars (decor factors in of course)... The extra half star was given bc the star of the night was the creme brûlée cheesecake! Holy tasty cheesecake. Now, I don't usually like cheesecake. I mean, it's okay, but not on my top shelf of dessert likes. But I had a creme brûlée cheesecake at capital grille in FL once and it was awesome. So I always try it if they have it. This was light, fluffy, tasty and heavenly. My friend and I clearly loved this dessert as there was nothing left on the plate. Not a crumb. My first experience with not pleasant due to the service. However it was brought to the attention of upper management and I was invited back to try them a second time around. I must say I was impressed. First time around we tried flat bread, the kale salad, cowboy 10 Oz ribeye, wine, and cocktails. Food wasn't the issue but service was. This time around we had: Fried calamari French onion soup Grass fed filet mignon Steelhead salmon Three scoops, three flavors of ice cream Chocolate mousse cart Gone bananas Calamari was fried perfectly and it was very soft. I didnt need any lemon. I wasn't a fan of the salsa verde sauce, too lemony and salty for me. French onion soup was delicious. The highlight for me was my filet. Absolutely melts in your mouth. Very tender, very flavorful. Never imagined a little grits, fall veges, and filet would taste so wonderful together. The salmon went well with the cauliflower puree. I wished it was served with a wedge of lemon though. The highlight for my friend were the desserts. She ordered the gone bananas and was basically gushing at every spoonful. I believe she would come back just for the desserts. The manager was so attentive that although we didn't ask for the chocolate mousse he believed it was a must we try. A cart of six or so toppings for the mousse came out and my friend had a kick out of selecting her own toppings. She kept announcing the white chocolate balls were to die for. Now for service. Our server's name was Joe. He was phenominal. He would refill my friend's ginger ale when was empty before we asked. Within no more than 5 minutes we stopped picking at our appetizers he came to ask if we were ready for our main dish. He came to ask after each time something was served how it was. He was simply perfect. At the end when the manager came by to ask how everything was and I gushed about the service being so different from the first time he simply said that's what it should be all the time. At first I thought they were being this attentive since it was our return visit and they knew ahead of time. However I noticed the manager going around to the tables all around us asking everyone how everything was. It was impressive. So my tip? It's a beautiful ambience inside and in the outside seating area. However, I would choose to be seated inside, I preferred calamari and French onion soup over the flat bread and kale salad (when unsure about what the salad dressing will taste like ask for it on the side), if ordering salmon ask for a lemon wedge, and finish off the dinner with some dessert. Came here with my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. Food was good but the service was one of the worst we have experienced. We got there around 7:30, we were seated and waited like 20 min before getting asked what we wanted to drink. Another couple came and sat next to us, they got served right away. Finally we ordered our food but everyone else was getting served before us even though we were right in the middle, where everyone could see that we didn't have food on our table. The other couple left and we ended up asking someone to bring and take the money because we were just tired at that point, we left at 9:40 and wish the tip was not included because the server was not good or nice at all. The only ones that actually deserve the money are the older guys running and cleaning the tables. read more

While on a recent trip to LA- we chose to eat here one day for lunch. It was a bit of a ghost town but that was okay with us as it gave us the full range of the place. We chose to eat outside given it was a perfect day . . .more in the Riviera 31 lounge than in the restaurant- but the menu was the same. I found the menu to be very limiting . . .so much so that my friend actually asked for the bar menu to see if there was anything else on it that he might want. Oh sure- there is a range of flatbreads, salads, cheese and chacuterie, and there even is a 4 course diet delight menu which actually looked like the best thing on the menu. But when our server told us that you basically get one small piece of cheese for $5, that quickly came off of our consideration set. And they weren't willing to break up the 4 course menu so we were limited in our options. I went for a burger (sans the bun) and my friend ordered the "grasse" flatbread. I guess we should have listened to the server for while my burger was fine, my friend found the "grasse" inedible and ended up ordering the burger as well. Great wine list and great weather saved the lunch but as for the food? Well . . . .I think there are better places you can go in the area. read more

Very pleasantly surprised. Hotel restaurants are usually hit or miss. This one is a hit and probably the best food I've encountered at a hotel restaurant. I highly recommend the Kale Caesar salad and the Brick Roasted Chicken - both are homeruns!! Absolutely delicioius. I tried the California Raw Salad one night also - and I didn't care for it - kind of mushy and kind of drowning in the dressing. Esterel is so good I would drop by again if I were in the area. Delicious food - fantastic service - lots of attention, and extremely nice folks. The manager engaged with us quite a few times and it was a real pleasure. They even brought out a few complimentary samples of things for us to try - unexpected and very much appreciated. We had more than our share of Joel Gott Cabernet that evening - that was also wonderful and highly recommended!! The noise level was low - which I love. I could see this as being nice spot for a romantic evening. And, there's a very nice private room as well. read more

I'm not sure how this place has 4 stars. Probably from a lack of foot traffic, seeing as most of the photos posted were from 2 years ago or older. Very disappointed. Service 7/10 Sub-par. The restaurant is located inside a hotel and we visited because of OpenTable's bonus points offer of 1000 pts. We waited 5 minutes before a host even showed up to show us to a table. The waiter was less than attentive, showing up to ask how our meal was for the first time after we'd pretty much finished our 2 starters. There were probably 5 tables filled both inside and out and the waiter didn't even pay attention to us. Ambience 9/10 We sat outside on the patio beneath some beautiful flowers. The ambience outside was perfect for a romantic night out or even for a get-together with some friend. Such a shame that the food didn't meet expectations. Food 1/10 We ordered the braised pork belly and grilled octopus to start. The pork belly tasted like it wasnt cooked enough in a pressure cooker. It was very hard on the outside and rubber inside. Not melt-in-your-mouth delicious at all like you'd want a pork belly to be. The octopus was cooked fine but tasted like it rotted at sea- not fresh at all. For our main course we had the $50 half grilled lobster. The moment it was put on our table I could smell that it wasn't fresh. One bite and I couldn't even swallow the rubbery, fishy piece of meat. We unfortunately returned the lobster and left immediately after. Such a shame the best food we put in our mouths was the parmesan crackers that came in the bread basket while we waited for our first courses. Ultimately a huge disappointment. There was so much potential and nothing that came to our tables was good at all. We paid $90 for nothing satisfactory or delicious at all. The restaurant did come by and apologized profusely for the experience, giving us to-go desserts as a consolation. read more
