Torta de milaneza with 2 sides of salsa verde
    Melissa C.

I love this store. When in first moved to Windsor I was a little bummed that I wouldn't be close to Lola's market which offers products from Mexico , great food , and meats you can't find at regular grocery stores. But I have found my new go to Latino market. This place has everything Lola's has ! Possibly more. They also have a restaurant within the store. I got their burrito de carnitas. It was okay. I would have loved a little more flavor but it's ok. I was disappointed but I wasn't wowed either. However, their torta de milaneza is a whole other story. That sandwich was delicious! The bread ( I think it was telera) was so light and was bigger than my hand. It had the milaneza, avocado, cheese, lettuce, tomato, jalapeños, mayo and onion. I literally danced after I took the first bite. It was so good! I ate the sandwich super slow and enjoyed every bite. I was a little sad when I was down to the last bite. It was that good! The staff here is very helpful and super friendly (something that I never seemed to encounter at Lola's). The store is well organized and clean. They're playing music in Spanish in the background. Not gonna lie, even though I didn't understand the lyrics of the music, the best was slapping. I was doing a little dance as I waited for my food to be ready. I'll definitely be back !

We were on 0ur way to Mendocino and had to take a pee break. Luckily en0ugh, this was the first place we saw with a bathroom. They cook the meat right out front! This place is a restaurant as well as a market. You can tell they put a lot of love into the food. Everything was so good. I usually don't like green Sauce, but theirs was the shiiiiiiiiit! I ordered a super burrito with carnitas. The park was nice and crisp but moist. Every order comes with a side of chips. Loooooove that! My be ordered a quesadilla with language and chorizo. Sooooo gooood! But I don't like how it made the tortilla soggy. The red sauce has habaneros in it, and I had an allergic reaction. Not their fault but it sucked. Definitely a place to check out!

I was hoping they had mole but they didn't, which might have been too carby anyway. I was pleased to see that the menudo didn't have corn in it making it something I can have. The menudo was excellent, they don't skimp on the tripe and it tasted great, especially with the chili oil at end of the buffet. The Birria was also very good and I had to try the nopales con huevos which was okay. I wish I could have the tortillas that are made in site, my wife loved them enough to wrap a few up to take home. However had I not been writing a Yelp review I would have just had more menudo instead. It's just that good. I suppose one thing to know is about the long communal tables. In case that's a problem for anyone.

So after settling in line and realizing we were in for the long haul-my breakfast burrito craving instincts started kicking in,so I jumped on my phone and opened Yelp and saw this interesting looking spot wasn't too far away. With my spot secure in line by my buddy,I jumped in my car and headed to Taqueria California in Windsor. The shop is located in a multi tenant shopping center so parking is zero issue. Walking in I was greeted by the amazing smell of breakfast meats cooking with those beautiful Mexican spices,I knew I was in the right spot. The very friendly staff took my order of 2 breakfast burritos-I got a Bacon version and a Chorizo version-they cost $13.00 each Both came with a green and red sauce on the side and also a complimentary small bag of chips. I ended up trying a little bit of the bacon burrito, since it was my friends,it was pretty good and one can never go wrong with a bacon breakfast burrito-but honestly my chorizo burrito was amazing. It was perfectly seasoned-not overly greasy-and then paired with the two salsa-each bite was better than the next. The potatoes went so well with the eggs and chorizo and cheese-I enjoyed it very much. This was the perfect meal to start off what ended up being a big day of beer drinking at the brewery. In closing-if you ever find yourself in the Windsor area and are craving a breakfast burrito-I give this shop 2 major thumbs up and guarantee you will enjoy your meal from Taqueria California.

Service could not have been better or nicer. Chips and salsa both excellent; the folks in our group who'd been here before ordered the guacamole even before we sat down. I love how guacamole is slightly different in each restaurant -- this guac is super fresh and really delicious! One friend wasn't super hungry and so got the chicken tortilla soup -- just know their portions are LARGE. So soup truly is a meal in itself! Two of us got salads -- a friend got the taco salad, and I got the chicken tortilla salad. Honestly, I'd probably get the taco salad next time, but not in the tortilla -- the chicken in my salad was deep fried (I know, I'm in a Mexican place, what did I expect?) and so it kind of overpowered everything. Others got burritos, tacos -- and everyone gave approving "Moos" of enjoyment as they ate. Great drink menu, ice-cold beer. Definitely someplace I'd return to!

We chose to sit outside because it was a beautiful day, a few flies, but nothing too aggressive. Our waitress was bubbly, engaging and knowledgeable about the menu. Then.. we tried the shredded chicken nachos...a classic delicious favorite. The Carne Asada tostada was super delicious, had just a little too much lettuce. And the Las poblanas was a wonderfully amazing mix of grilled chicken, carne Asada, prawns... and mushrooms... with both corn and flour tortillas. Soooo good. The service was good overall, but the biggest disappointment was the food. Three of us ordered the Coastal Fish Bowl, a dish our friend had always enjoyed during his previous visits. While the combination of vegetables, black beans, and cheese had pleasant flavors, the fish was the main issue. The menu describes the dish as featuring sea bass, but the fish served was actually swai (also known as basa), a much less expensive farm-raised freshwater fish. I am very familiar with swai and could immediately recognize that it was not the fish described on the menu. Additionally, the menu stated that the fish was grilled, but it was actually lightly battered and deep-fried. The description also mentioned that the dish came with tortillas, but none were provided. Overall, the menu description was significantly misleading and did not accurately represent what was served. While our experience was not ruined by the service, it was only adequate and did not make up for the disappointment with the food. A restaurant's menu should accurately reflect the ingredients and preparation methods so guests can have the experience they are expecting.
