We chose to visit Ethan Allen on the Upper Eastside to see sofas after weeks of browsing on so many internet sites. Upon entering the store we were welcomed by the receptionist Joyce Sforza and the designer Maxwell Reagan. Maxwell is amazing. Friendly, open and easy to work with. Maxwell is always professional and his knowledge about the Ethan Allen products was invaluable. My husband and I made several visits before deciding, and each time Maxwell engaged us in a dialogue and partnership where he listened to what we wanted, gave us time to think and gently steered us into choices we felt good about.  After the purchase Maxwell has kept us updated on the delivery and helped us with fabric samples. Horrible service from Deborah. We ordered couch cushion covers a year ago and only now received them. I called the store several times and was told they were on the way, but it's now abundantly clear that our order was forgotten about. Have followed up multiple times with Deborah to receive the discount she promised us given the wait and the fact she clearly forgot about our order and still have not received it. Would stay away from this brand, store and sales rep at all costs. Very unfortunate given I've purchased several pieces of furniture with the company to date. Very unhappy with Channing loveseat purchased June 2019; it was delivered mid-Sept 2019, and reported it as defective in late Nov 2019 (it made a uncomfortable crumbling noise on the back, as if it was falling apart; first time this has ever happened to me with an EA piece). It was picked up in early Dec for repair, returned the week before the holidays, and I had to report the same issue on Jan 2, 2020. EA said they would pick it up for repair yet again on Jan 20th so I filed a complaint with BBB on 1/6/2020. In end, after a reselect was not reached, EA said they would reimburse my monies in full. Channing loveseat was picked up Sat, Jan 18, refund was supposedly processed on Tues, Jan 21, but none of my credit cards are able to trace this refund as of Jan 24. As a matter of fact, the Visa rep said that for a prestigious company like EA, it sounds like I'm being given the run around and that I should contact them again and advise what MC and Visa have said. I too have been an EA client for the past 20 years and am very, very disappointed in their treatment of a long-time client, deeply disappointed. read more

Never Never Never Again! I spent $5000 on a bed which feels like sleeping on cement. I went to my salesperson to tell her I was unhappy and she literally shrugged and threw her hands up in the air and said she would do nothing about it. She gave me a phone number for "service" that went straight to voice mail and the message said that they would reply in 48 hours. This is a very expensive store with poor quality products and abysmal service. I would avoid it at all costs. They care nothing for the long term value of a happy customer, just for a quick buck. read more

I couldn't be happier. I went to the 1010 Third Ave store to look at rugs a few weeks ago. I was waited on by an energetic and lovely woman, Gale. Gale helped me select the rug of my dreams and it was so reasonable that I decided to work with her on other items for my living room redo. (I thought all the EA selection would be too traditional for what I planned -- not true! There are several contemporary looks at EA. ) It took time to get everything that I ordered but I couldn't be happier. Gale didn't push things that were uber expensive on me. In fact she let me know about upcoming sales so I could time my orders to my best advantage. I took a leap of faith to get a floor lamp that I never would have picked out for myself. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. Don't order from here if you 1) want your furniture in time or 2) don't want your apartment ruined I bought an entire bedroom set from Ethan Allen back in February. It costs me nearly $10,000 and it is the biggest regret of my life. First, I was told the furniture would be delivered in 8-12 weeks. My furniture did not arrive till July! No one would offer me an explanation as to when the furniture would be delivered, except that "it's not ready yet" Second, the rude and awful deliverymen made a dent in my walls and caused a big portion of the paint to chip off. I had recently moved into a new apartment and completely renovated the entire place (including getting colored paint on the walls). I told the movers to be very careful and they were not careful at all, dropping heavy wood beams on the new floors and propping sharp edges up on the walls. Not only are the deliverymen incompetent, the Corporate headquarters are dismissive and inconsiderate. As soon as they left, I saw the dent and immediately called the Ethan Allen distribution site to let them know what happened. I explained the situation carefully to the person on the phone and was told to leave a message. I left one...no one responded. I called back the next day and asked to talk to a supervisor but was again ignored. This has happened a few times and NO ONE has ever called me back to even offer a simple apology. I realize that accidents may happen with furniture deliveries but a mere "sorry" would be nice. read more

Worst customer service ever. I spent so much money on couches that I have owned for less than a year that look like they're 10 yrs old. I only sit on the couches for about 2 hours a day. Beautiful designs but couches do not last long and not worth the price you pay. You have to call 100 times before you reach the same person that helped you when you were in the store. They never return your calls. Stay away!!! You don't get what you want or what you were promised. I'm giving Ethan Allen one star for the quality of the furniture. Allow to me explain, I've been deceived! About ten years ago, I purchased from Ethan Allen what I was told were solid maple wood bookshelves. The other day, I was dusting the shelves and I noticed that they are not solid, but rather veneered shelves, as the thin veneer is starting to peel off. For those that don't know, a veneer is a thin layer of hardwood (usually thinner than 1/8/inch) that is bonded to a less expensive surface below (often a cheaper wood, particle board, or MDF, that is to say, Medium-density fibreboard). I should have known as when I purchased the shelves, the saleslady was reluctant to say what type of wood the shelves were made of, but as I insisted, she said that they were solid wood. No doubt wanting to make a sale and sensing that I was gunho about buying a solid wood piece. So, please be careful when you buy from them. The salespeople make money from commissions and have a big incentive to make a sale, which may lead them to be a little less than honest. read more

Quality of customer service is hit or miss, and needs serious improvement. While some of the salespeople are helpful and knowledgeable, many are curt and act like they're doing you a serious favor by assisting you with spending thousands of dollars on furniture. A review on a product I recently purchased - a cream sofa. The first time I had guests over, the blue from their blue jeans rubbed off on the couch, ruining the fabric. I went to the store and asked what I could do about this. They disclaimed any knowledge about this and refused to provide any suggestions for where I could go for help, saying they can't tell me what to do because they can't take liability for any further damage. Hmmm... Anyway, I would have liked to be told when I bought the sofa that it could be ruined within the first week of use. Oh yeah, and it took MONTHS to receive delivery of the sofa in the first place. A lot of waiting for nothing. Furniture design, however, is excellent. read more

My husband and I were in NYC for a wedding in June 2019. We were just doing a walking tour when we spotted Ethan Allen and decided to go in and look around. I have to say we didn't exactly look like EA shoppers, but that didn't stop Ruthi Yankiver from giving us a big hello and asking us how she could help. If she hadn't been so sincere in her attitude, I probably would have said "just looking", but I told her why we were in NY and also we'd been discussing new, well-made furniture for a few years. It was always a friendly call. A few months ago we decided to purchase a custom sofa & loveseat with "dog-proof" fabric. Carmen and I initially communicated via email and she invited me to the showroom in NYC. It was then I told her I was located in California so she still continued to work with me. She pulled together some ideas for me and once I narrowed down my selections, she sent renderings of my selections so that I'd have a better idea of what it would look like in the space. After discussing colors Robert went to work with redecorating my living room and sent me computer generated pictures of the new look. I was a loyal customer of EA for 18 years. Unfortunately, my recent experience was very disappointing. The "manager" I worked with didn't understand basic math, was unable to communicate store policies, promised one thing and then called a week later to tell me corporate wouldn't allow her to do "said thing." The CEO, Farooq Kathwari, has an interesting story to tell about his journey from the mountains of Kasmir to becoming a titan in industry (he has been promoting his memoir), but I'm wondering if his focus has wavered. The company is making a boat load of $$ so I'm unclear about what has happened to their product(s) and their employee's capabilities. It's a shame that I will never shop at EA again especially with 75% of their products being made in North America. read more

I had the good fortune of working with Fatima, one of the designers at the upper east side store. We had just bought our apartment and had no idea what we really wanted - other than a living room, dining room and office area! Have a hard time making a decision and was grateful for Fatima's patience!! I did know my color scheme and Fatima helped put it all together . Love my dining room table and chairs!!! Fabric on the chairs is not only the perfect soft shade I was looking for but accents my living room fabric choice as well. Living room is as comfortable as it is beautiful. Also important was how much furniture and the scale of the pieces. She took all of this into consideration. I was sure the desk size she suggested would not suit the space. Very nice associates until they sell you the furniture. And then, they are clueless as to when it may be delivered. Purchased a sofa February 3rd. Still no idea. Initially promised May 10. Last week someone said it would be June. A day later they called to say they will meet original delivery date. Next day someone else who is supposedly a manager there called to say it will not be in their warehouse till end of June. She had no idea someone else had called a day before to confirm the original delivery date. So disorganized, clueless as to what is happening with an order 10 weeks after the order date. A well-known, respected dry cleaner of interior fabrics LOST the Ethan Allen sofa cushion I brought to them for cleaning, necessitating what may be a small claims court action. Priscilla Fried, who sold me the sofa in the first place years ago, was able to retrieve a copy of my invoice and email it to me. This service, for which there was no charge, is a bright spot in the horrible weeks-long problem I have had with the dry cleaner. I will certainly go back to Ethan Allen because they behave in an organized professional manner. read more
