We came at 5pm on Friday night without a reservation. We asked if they could serve us within 45 minutes because we had a class nearby we needed to make. They were able to serve us quickly. Our server was friendly and helpful with recommendations. There was also a QR code to pay at the table which also helped us keep our dinner to 45 minutes. I had the Chitara Cacio e Pepe. It was tasty! They aren't able to add chicken breast to any pasta or salad though. To me that's a missed opportunity for an extra sale. However, if they think it will ruin the taste or if it would be freezer chicken then I would rather have them not honor my request. Given this, I can respect them not having this as an option. I had the perfect pear to drink. It was lightly sweet and well balanced. I enjoyed it! The ambiance is nice. It's cozy chic.

Good: good food but nothing outstanding. Went for brunch and was a bit disappointed that it only had brunch items and not some of its regular lunch item that I wanted to try. The focaccia is good, but they brought us butter instead of ricotta. It's still good but well it's not what it said it is. Service: slow so go with friends and enjoy some drinks! Good to consider it's a lazy Sunday brunch. Ambience: has a rooftop, inside it's kind of dark but you can still get big floor to ceiling windows. I think it's more suitable for dinner.

My heart hurts that the LA location has closed, so of course I hopped on a flight to check out the Chicago location! Etta is absolutely scrumptious. The plates come out hot, and the flavors are absolutely amazing. The Cacio e Pepe is perfectly done, and the Margherita Pizza falls nothing short of perfect. Great spot for a nice dinner, as the inside is very well decorated as well. Service was great during my visit in August, and I hope to be back soon!

I picked up to pizzas from Etta. I placed the order online and the food was ready before the promised time. Pickup process was straight forward, in and out with no issues. I ordered their Margherita pizza and their Diavola pizza. Both pizzas were delicious. The Margherita was made traditionally with red sauce, mozzarella di bufala, olive oil and basil. The Diavola had soppressatta picante, Calabrian chile honey and basil. The pizzas were definitely on the smaller side, especially for the price, but they were delicious and worth the price. The pizzas came with quality and ingredients and very flavorful. The crust was perfectly charred, and despite the pizzas looking small, they were still quite filling. Will definitely be returning.

Really cute rooftop spot to eat at, but not a place to get full unless you have money to spend. It makes sense that there are small bites as most folks seem to come here for drinks. Compared to the location in Scottsdale, AZ, I was a bit disappointed in portion size. Ordered the cacio e pepe and grilled beef. The pasta was great, not too salty as some places do it. Unfortunately, the grilled beef was so little food for $47. It was also under the "For the Table" category so I thought the portions would be larger - if not put it in the "Starters" section! We were still quite hungry after but decided to go somewhere else instead of order more. Overall not a bad place, we just had the wrong expectations going in.

etta was even better than I remembered! The standout dishes for me on this go around were the burrata appetizer - this was my fave thing we ordered - and the bolognese. I did not think the pizza was very good. It was soggy and the dough in the middle was so thin everything would slide off. Everything else was awesome - the sugar cookie shots are a fun treat!

Delicious food, warm vibe & stellar service--Etta Bucktown never disappoints. I am always craving their delicious branzino while my fellow eating partner ordered the chicken, both a great hit as always! Perfect for any occasion!

I've been to the other Etta location in river north (recently closed) but this was my first time at the Bucktown location. I like this one a lot better! The space has more character and sitting on the rooftop patio was so nice on a beautiful Saturday! We came for lunch around 1 and there was plenty of seating. They were still serving their brunch menu which has a range of brunch plates and their pizzas. We split 2 pizzas between 3 of us and it was the perfect filling amount! we got the Margherita and the wild mushroom and both were delicious, though we all liked the Margherita better. The sauce was so fresh and flavorful! I'd like to come back and try their pastas, as I enjoyed the brunch when I went to the other location previously. Definitely can't go wrong with Etta!

Love a Saturday brunch but unfortunately 4 stars because I was counting on the house made amazing focaccia bread with jelly but they were sold by noon when we went to order sounds odd for a Saturday probably the busiest day of the week I'm sure . I wish they told me before I sat they were sold out because it would probably change my mind because I was looking forward to it . It's okay the rest of the meal did go well -- tried the cheddar biscuit with jalapeño butter which was good . Shared two pizzas got to love the breakfast pizza cheesiness. I know it may be a simple dish but there Caesar salad was perfection , lettuce dressing cheese , and croutons ratio was perfection . Crispy chicken sand which was good nothing crazy about it wish it came with fries but I get brunch with the roasted potatoes . The blood Mary was perfection I love a good mix and had two because alcohol and to mix great. All in all , call before you go to brunch to make sure there is focaccia bread .

Great service and ambiance, but the food wasn't particularly memorable. The focaccia with honey is really good, but other than that the crispy chicken sandwich and cacio e pepe were pretty average.

We heart Etta live in the area and come here a lot! On our most recent visit I tried the orange Pinot Grigio and beef tartare, both delicious. My husband tried a mixed drink... Pear something which was delicious. A little pricey but always good service and ambiance. Last time we got the sausage pizza, the pasta alla vodka, and the pork short ribs. The pizza was good but I would stick with pepperoni from here. Pasta was decent but I have had better vodka in the city so I would go for something else but the short rib was NEXT LEVEL. Huge portion with awesome accoutrements. My husband said it was one of his fav meals in Chicago. Overall drinks are great, pizza is good, entrees are tasty! Love this place.

Rooftop area is nice - lots of heaters as it was getting cooler out. Service was really great! Food was good as well - we tried a mix of items. Would probably skip the diavola pizza we got - it was a little sweet and missed the mark but otherwise everything else was great. Bubbling shrimp, bread, meatballs, pasta!

We enjoyed dinner at Etta my first night in Chicago for a visit. Cool vibe and not too terribly crowded surprisingly. We chose to sit out on the patio. We started with bread service, and honestly, it was some of the best I've ever had. It was the best part of the meal! We split two entrees - the Chimaera Cacao e pepe (pasta dish) and a Diavolo pizza. We were both happy with the pasta. However, the pizza was just okay. It was very floppy, and the crust didn't have a lot of flavor. We both had a slice, then decided to take it home for lunch the next day. Service was good, although our server spoke so softly that it was hard to hear her. All in all, a nice meal.

etta - Bucktown Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - etta - Bucktown

    Is this a fancy place?

Not that fancy like a steakhouse, I would say a date night spot you can wear semi casual to.

    What time is happy hour?

Monday-Thursday, 5-630pm in our bar area!

How kid friendly is this place? I have three young boys

Yes it is! We have a kid friendly menu, as well.

This place comes up as gluten-free, but I don't see options. What am I missing?

Hi Bea! We do not have gluten-free pizza or pasta, but we do have options that are naturally gluten-free. if you ask your server they can help guide you through the menu!

Are any of their pasta dishes also available during lunch?

We do not. Pastas are only served at dinner at this time!

Does this restaurant offer bottomless mimosas and if so how much?

Hello! We do not have bottomless mimosas - but we do have have a mimosa package that includes a bottle of champagne and three juices!

Maybe anyone knows if they accept cards?

    Credit cards, yes.

What's seating like right now? Is it all outside? And is it warm?

They have outdoor rooftop seating with heaters. It's very warm & cozy!

Do they have heaters on their rooftop?

Yes! Heat lamp at every table.

    Do they have heat lamps?

    Yessiree!

Are there vegan options available for brunch? If so, what?

I believe I saw avocado toast and granola and they have pizza for brunch, you could leave off the cheese.

Do they offer delivery or are they affiliated with a delivery service?

Good Morning Olivia. etta Bucktown does not offer delivery service. We do accept to go orders for pickup though. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.…

Is the rooftop section open in winter?

Good Morning Regulo. The outdoor rooftop is not enclosed. Thus it is not open during the winter months. We do offer indoor seating upstairs however. Please let us know if you have any additional questions…

I am curious about the brunch upstairs on the weekends (heard there's a DJ &I know I saw there's rose carts but is there a special on rose or any type of "unlimited" package? I saw a pop-up about a brunch party from 10:30-1:30 & then pizza after?

When I was there the cart was doing table side margaritas. I think it changes from week to week. To my knowledge, there's not bottomless/unlimited option. It is a great brunch with good music and drinks though. I recommend it.

    Kid friendly? Kid menu?

Very kid friendly. We have a separate kids menus and coloring sheet!

Is brunch menu only offered on certain days/times?

    10-2 on the weekends.

    Any gluten free pasta?

Unfortunately, we currently do not offer any gluten free pasta.

    What is the parking situation?

    Metered street parking

Are they small-plate style? Going for dinner tomorrow evening and wondering how many dishes to order for 2 people.

They have small and large it will be interesting to see if the service is better since they have been open a while now

Do you need a reservation or can you walk in?

Reservation is strongly preferred, but you can always come in and sit at the bar. If it's not too busy they may have unreserved tables.

We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, not realizing just how busy the place gets...that was a mistake. Learn from us - book a reservation weeks in advance, or at the very least, several days in advance. The trip over there is a little bit of a hassle, and we were almost turned away (more on that in a minute). Once we finally got seated, the experience was great. First, the positives - The pizza came out piping hot and was incredible. The crust had a caramelized, crispy edge, and it was super rich, filling, and flavorful. It may not look like a large portion when it gets delivered to the table, but boy, you get full fast here. My wife loved it too! Our server was friendly and took great care of us, and I liked the atmosphere inside a lot. The exposed brick walls and old-school neighborhood pizza-joint gives it a lot of character. The only downside was our first interaction at the front. We didn't have a reservation, and the hostess we initially spoke with was surprisingly rude about it, to the point that we actually left for a second. We thought about it, talked about how far out of our way we had to come to get there amongst ourselves, and decided if we couldn't eat in, we'd place a takeout order instead. So we came back to place a takeout order, and thankfully we got to speak with another host, who was much more helpful and eventually got us seated inside. Rough start aside, the pizza was excellent and worth the trip, provided you have a reservation.

The bread was nicely toasted and crunchy, and the tomatoes tasted fresh and flavorful. For dinner we got a large vegetarian deep dish pizza. It was really good! The crust had crispy edges but was still soft inside, with lots of gooey cheese, veggies and sauce. Deep dish is definitely on the heavier side, so keep that in mind when ordering. One large should easily be enough for at least 3 people, especially if you're getting an appetizer. Also, deep dish takes some time to cook, usually around 30-60 minutes depending on how busy they are. They do tell you about the wait when you order, which I liked. I would suggest planning for the extra time or going a little early. We had the bruschetta while waiting, so honestly we didn't mind. We started with the Greek salad and flatbread, and they were just as delicious as I remembered. The salad is HUGE--I'll come back to that. For the table, I ordered the half-pound pot pie pizzas. You're given three options: sausage and mushroom, sausage without mushroom, or mushroom only. The first time I visited, I was brought there by a Muslim couple who didn't eat pork. Although I'm not Muslim, I also don't eat pork, and another person in our group doesn't eat mushrooms. We were able to find pot pie options that worked for everyone. I also remember the menus telling the interesting history of the area, including the connection to the Valentine's Day Massacre across the street. That history and character seem to have disappeared as well. When the pizza arrived, I honestly thought a frozen pizza would have tasted better. The sauce tasted like Ragu spaghetti sauce soup, with two nearly raw, completely UNSEASONED whole mushrooms floating in it. It was horrible. Because I don't eat pork, I needed an alternative for the meat. What I received were two DRY, OVERCOOKED, well-done, flavorless hockey pucks disguised as "meat patties" that I was expected to crumble into my pizza. Not one of the five people at our table liked their pizza. My brother, who has also visited this restaurant several times said the pot pie was not how he experienced in the past. At that point, a few of us agreed that we might come back for the salad and flatbread, but the pizza was a complete miss. Then things got worse! As we were getting carry-out containers to take home the remainder of our food--with hopes of somehow doctoring up the pizza in our kitchens--we divided up the leftover salad and flatbread. Our server gave us two condiment containers for the salad dressing. (There are two different dressings that you mix and drizzle over the salad.) We packed up our food, and there was enough salad and bread left for at least two more people. So we asked for additional containers for the dressing. That's when we were told there was a limit of TWO dressing containers per table. WHAT??!!! Even Italian Garden will give you as much dressing as you need without making you feel like you're being upsold to PURCHASE the dressing. At that point, all five of us agreed: the salad and flatbread were good, but they weren't good enough to make us want to return. The watery pizza soufflé and container policy, was a disappointment and turnoff. What I remembered as a unique, memorable Chicago dining experience now felt overrated and more like a tourist trap. It was $250 wasted. I'll also be sharing this experience on my social platforms as well. Honorable mention: The glasses slide around due to the unevenness of the tables (not the booths) and the condensation underneath the drinks. Spend money on the uneven light fixtures outside of your establishment and the rickety tables. Just a thought.

The focaccia + burrata combo was incredible - I typically don't opt for bread + pizza, although this was so worth it. The focaccia was perfectly crispy yet so soft, and pairing burrata on top gave it that creamy/cold combo that was perfect. The pizza was very elevated - good simple ingredients with an incredible crunch. Extremely paper thin. Highly recommend to come here!

Finally finally FINALLY!!!! I got here and tried the pizza! This has been on my Chicago food bucket…read morelist ever since it opened. We ended up doing a walk-in on a Sunday night and showed up at 8 PM one hour before close. This worked out for us because we got a really good seat after only waiting for 20 minutes. Service is good and timely- the hostess was super kind and helpful. We started with some cocktails- a Negroni & a spritz (both were good & pretty strong). Then we split the Caesar salad and a pizza with half sausage/olive and mushroom/onion. Yeah, the pizza did blow me away- the crust is perfectly crunchy and so so thin. I wouldn't even describe it as traditional tavern style pizza because I think it's a really crunchy crust- but it's definitely wayyyyy better than Dimi Dimi (that's the most comparable crust imo). The sauce has a slight spice to it, and the whole pizza just feels very layered in terms of flavorful profile. The sausage was also spicy but very good and I absolutely loved the mushroom and onion duo. Sometimes when you go to a certain pizza places, it doesn't feel worth it, but all the ingredients felt elevated here and the pizza had an elevated taste. The Caesar salad had a nice light dressing and a ton of cheese. I wish that the lettuce had a bit more of a crunch to it, but they seemed to use butter lettuce. The inside feels like a classic Italian joint, but it's very small and simple Overall, so glad that I finally went and although it's not a place that I would go regularly because I live far, I would definitely come back!

Kari's Rating 9.25/10…read more TLDR: -2 types of pizza, tavern = thin, Artisan = doughy -Opens at 4pm-Can have a line when opening! -One of my personal favorites for pizza in River North! Came with a friend for dinner around 4 PM and man was it crowded as soon as those doors opened. It had been my first time there and I'm more of a lover of pizza that has a little bit of dough, so we started off with the crispy calamari appetizer, and then went straight in with the artisan style vodka, pizza while adding Italian sausage. Calamari was pretty good, it was lately battered, and not very oily which I appreciated. It came with a lemon as well as some kind of mayo, dipping sauce. It was very delicious and light and came out relatively quickly after ordering. I was trying to see room as the pizza was the absolute star of the show-The cheese came almost the ends of the perfect puffy and doughy crust. Although, the middle of the pizza was thinner than the artesian, puffy crust, yet you could taste everything when you took a first bite. The combination of cheese, sauce, banana peppers, and the Italian sausage was incredible. Now, normally I would think vodka anything would be a little heavier, but it actually was a perfect light bite pizza. We seated in the secondary dining room and it had a very interesting layout, but it was very trendy and modernly decorated. I can't believe how packed it got considering we went in on a Monday. We left around 6:30 and the place was almost fully packed, including their first entrance seating. I fake to the bathroom as I was paying the check, and it was interesting considering the bathrooms were only one stall per gender, which is very unlike River North considering the bathrooms, usually take up a significant portion of the restaurant layout-but who knows, maybe they didn't have the space? We finished off our early lunch with a tiramisu and it didn't come out traditionally looking like a tiramisu, considering it came in a bowl almost as a pudding. It was coated in a dusting of cocoa and chocolate crispy rice balls, but was surprisingly not very coffee flavored. I don't personally like the strong coffee taste into tiramisu-and I found it absolutely delightful, although I would consider it more of a vanilla tiramisu than a traditional. Overall, a very positive experience, the servers were relatively attentive, the prices were moderate for pizza in River North, appetizers and dessert was relatively good as far as pizza goes in Chicago and I look forward to returning sooner than later!!

Delicious pizzas! A great ambiance! I really enjoyed my food here. I visited on a Thursday evening,…read moreand it was so busy. Every single table was full. The interior feels inviting and warm. I love their vintage decor and dim lighting. The food was outstanding. I loved every flavor of pizza I tried. The mushroom truffle was exceptionally good, with a strong truffle scent. They have a dairy free pizza option that was surprisingly good. The fried zucchini was crispy and came with a creamy dipping sauce. The spicy vodka pasta was another hit - the noodles were bouncy, and the sauce was so flavorful. Can't wait to visit again and try more delicious dishes.

Big bang buffalo- standard buffalo. Can't go wrong. Hot honey- pretty good, honey flavor, some sweetness Garlic galaxy glaze- this is really good if you like garlic flavor. I would get this again. Bayou in the sky- super super good. I would get this again. Hint of spice, hint of sweet. Carolina bbq- tasted like straight deli mustard. I would pass. The pizza, even though they advertise Detroit Style pizza, their take is more like Focaccia style pizza. They provide nice crunch, not enough sauce. Pretty airy dough. Drooling mushroom- they offer lots of mushrooms on top but the rest of the pizza was not too great. Next time, I would get Ham Radio- pepperoni, bacon, sausage, got and sweet pepper.

That's at the tone for what became unforgettable night. Had the space debri salad which is basically a Greek salad with potatoes and I think in Italian vinaigrette Soooooooooooo for it!!! So delicious After getting it, my buddy had to get one too haha One of us had the moonwalk cheese, we go out for a lot of pizza together, and he said it was he thought his favorite of anywhere. Another one of our crew got the pepperoni pile up loved. And I got the sweet and salty space candy pizza With bacon, pineapple, pickled red onion, goat cheese, sambal. Genius, the goat cheese, instead of ricotta was the move for this pizza! All the flavors worked in perfect harmony.Nothing short of amazing. Cozy spot, super cool atmosphere, couple of old school arcade games like ninja Turtles let's goooo We had so much fun. The drinks were absolutely excellent as well. Oh my God cannot forget this drink program. Galactic gift basket and Jedi mind trick sooo fire.
