Dr. Yim did not examine my back (did not do any exam), pointed to my X-ray to say what he thought about the origin of my pain. He was derisive, off-putting and seemed exasperated by my questions. As a clinical psychologist, I have patients who exhibit symptoms such his--derisvieness toward others, especially in the clinical setting points to the need for an assessment which he should seek. I saw Doctor Yim for an issue with a sports-related injury to my FOOT. I also had a hip issue that I saw his nurse practitioner Kelly Murphy for. Well, I can recommend them both very highly. I was incredibly impressed with their professionalism, courtesy, (and the lovely office space) I encountered at their Newport Coast location, (big, lovely shopping center, tons of free parking) which is actually within the HOAG urgent care office. I was surprised that it was within urgent care but when I arrived, I was directed into their adjoining office right away and was seen very promptly. Pretty awesome. All of the good things I have read about Dr. Yim proved to be true. He is patient, kind, very smart, a great listener, and he offers wise solutions. I will definitely come back to him. He has an excellent medical background, but most of all lots of experience and understanding of sports related injury Matters. (I am not a general athlete, I am a senior who likes to power walk for exercise and developed plantar fasciatis and really needed the doctor's help). Also, because I wanted to see someone right away about my HIP issue, I had earlier opted to see the nurse practitioner in that location, Kelly Murphy, and she also proved to be wonderful. It was like seeing an extra doctor. She was compassionate, understanding, knowledgeable, and best of all, she offered some good solutions to me. I think they really do make a great team. The office staff more than met my expectations. Samantha and Hannah are prompt and courteous and understanding and welcoming. What more could you ask? Samantha is very knowledgeable and they are both right on the ball. Suffice it to say that, because I live close to their office, I was even more delighted to find this location. My son went to Dr. him twice about pain in his knee first time they ordered an MRI without contrast and there was a tumor or a cyst found to review the report he charged $60 again. He sent my son for an MRI with contrast and again he doesn't call to review the report with him. He wants to charge another $60 visit to go over the report and then to say what needs to be done. I find this Ludacris unethical and all about money and it seems this doctor is just about money. He was highly recommended, but unfortunately it seems he's more money hungry than he is about the care or quality of care for his patient. Bottom line it's his pocketbook that is more important to him. Quite disappointing. read more

Orthopedic: knee I needed a Cortisone shot in my knee due to inflammation. His NP did the initial interview and prep and Dr. Yim gave the shot. He was very gentle and kind. I was not there very long. I had a hard time finding the office. It is located in Newport Coast, in a Pavillian shopping center, and is a storefront office that has an Urgent Care and Dr. Yim's office. Dr Yim seems like a nice enough person. And his staff seems like they generally care. But he completely misdiagnosed me which set my recovery back by over a year. His office also overbilled me, admitted they overbilled me, and over a year later I'm still trying to get my money back. Was referred to him due to shoulder pain. After doing some test he gave me a preliminary diagnosis and ordered an MRI. Went back and reviewed the MRI, which he said confirmed his original diagnosis, which was slightly torn labrum and arthritis in my AC joint. He gave me a cortizone shot and he ordered physical therapy. I began physical therapy and within a few weeks noticed that I was actually getting worse. The pain was more intense and my range of motion was far more limited. I decided to pause the physical therapy and seek a second opinion. Upon reviewing my MRI, the second orthopedist immediately recognized that I had a frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) in addition to the other injuries previously diagnosed. Without even asking me, he was able to guess the exact progression of my symptoms and said that the PT I was undergoing was making things worse because the initial diagnosis was wrong. He also pointed out that Dr Yim didn't even put the cortizone injection in the right place (which would explain why I got no relief at all from it). More than a full year later the frozen shoulder is finally feeling better, and I can begin strengthening the shoulder joint again to deal with the underlying issues. It seems as though Dr. Yim is more concerned with confirming his own assumptions rather than actually getting the diagnosis right. And his office really needs to get their shit together. How hard is to print a check and put it in the mail. Especially when they openly admit to overbilling me. If you have the options, I'd go to a different orthopedic practice. You'll save yourself a lot of pain and hassle. read more

I had a knee problem and went to see Dr. Yim, on my first visit I received an injection and was back in 10 days, second visit was short and under 5 minutes, my wait time in the lobby was 50 minutes. Dr. inform me he was ordering another type of injection and would take 2 weeks, its been 8 weeks, I left 15 voice messages with no return phone calls. Long standing autoimmune diseases requiring years of Prednisone steroids and chemotherapy is catching up with me. Was diagnosed by xrays in 2015 by another orthopedist as having AVN of my knee. I made an appointment to be seen locally at Newport Orthopedic Institute and was referred to Dr. Yim. I told him of my decades-long history of two very severe autoimmune issues and all the drugs I've taken to control them. He looked at my xrays and told me there's nothing wrong. Meanwhile I'm in pain, so much so the previous day I had gone to the ER. I then went to my GP who ordered an MRI which indicated I have AVN and other issues. Sloppy doctoring to say the least especially given the fact he's doing business in a top facility. With my history both past and recent he should not have sent me on my way without digging deeper.
