We came to European Jewelry because my fiancé's cousin's newly wedded wife raved about how they helped her create a custom ring. I felt this was our best option to ensure we could get something that suited my style and fit his budget. Luckily, employee Elvia listened carefully and found a couple rings that fit that description. One in particular caught my eye and we decided to come back and order it. The ring came back a few days later and I was called to pick it up. Immediately I knew something was wrong. I expressed that the setting seemed to protrude much more than I recalled, but the employee who was helping me said that it was what I had ordered. I looked it over and still felt that something was amiss. I asked to see the display ring for comparison and she told me that the ring I had on was what I had tried on the first time and that it had been resized. However, when Elvia worked with me she had made it a point to explain that every ring is custom ordered. The woman took the ring back and tried to box it up and send me on my way. I voiced my concern again and it seemed to fall on deaf ears, so I went over to the display case and saw the ring I'd tried on originally. I pointed it out and asked that she take it out for me to compare. The ring she was trying to get me to leave with was definitely different than what should have been made. The prongs and stones stuck out much farther from the band. In fact, the setting had a bi-level mounting that caused the center stone to be raised to almost double the height. The center stone was deeper and not as large in circumference. She still insisted they were the same ring but acknowledged that the center stone may be slightly smaller and that I could get larger... but it would cost more. I literally had to hold the rings up side by side and point out the multiple differences between what I was told I'd be getting and what I was given. Only then did she see for herself what was wrong and then quickly worked to get things sorted out. Again, possible price increase for the center stone was brought up. I stood my ground and told her that we had been quoted a price based on the display and we had agreed to that, paid for that, were expecting that, and would NOT pay more for their mistake. The new ring came in quickly and I was called to come get it. They had the ring but the center stone was separate. I was asked to confirm that it was the correct mounting before they set the stone. That would take an hour, which I wasn't told when they called, so I had to leave and come back another day. In the end, I drove from Bloomingdale to Mount Prospect and back 5x - twice more than it should have been, more mileage on my car, and a lot of time out of my busy schedule. I was actually able to keep the wrong ring until the new one arrived. In a way that was a good thing. It made me realize just how much I would have hated it. It banged into everything and felt clunky, which is exactly what I was trying to avoid and how I was able to easily tell it was wrong. The correct ring gives me no problems at all and is perfect. I am very pleased with my engagement ring now. Once they got the correct piece, everything was great! However, the employee's insistence that I was imagining things and trying to get me out the door without looking into the matter was worrisome. Please make sure you double check your order. I caught the mistake and I'd hate to see others sent off with an incorrect item. It's much harder to point out problems after the fact. read more

My husband bought me a 10 yr anniversary ring at another (chain) jeweler that includes "hell" in its name. Only its spelled "helz****". Anyway, I was shocked to learn that he paid $300 for a service to have my new white gold ring rhodium (sp?) whenever I wanted or needed it done. FURTHER, they do not do appraisals on their jewelry they just sold you. SERIOUSLY? In addition, I had slammed my engagement diamond in my desk drawer one day, and the diamond was a LOT crooked. HELZ**** wanted to send my ring off to be repaired, and get an estimate on what it would cost. That just felt wrong to me. So, I went searching for a local jeweler and tripped across European Jewelry here on Yelp. I got my new ring appraised and my wedding ring appraisal updated for insurance for a very fair price. Sam's brother fixed my crooked diamond on the spot free of charge. I have since purchased diamond earrings for both myself and my sister from Sam. I was able to buy my sister's earrings at a better quality and lower price than black Friday sales this year. My earlobes are thick, and I had problems with my earrings and the posts being too short with the screw on backs. Even after I had them for a few months, Sam reset them for me, so I would be able to wear them comfortably. Additionally, the rhodium service that we paid for at HELZ**** is a complete rip off, when you consider how frequent you have this done, and the net present value of your money. Sam charges $35 to have your rings rhodium-ed. This price also if you want to convert your yellow gold rings and turning them into white gold. And, I'm happy to know, if ever I want to go back to yellow gold, it can be done quickly and easily. I had an anitque ring done, and it looks like new. I always feel like I get a fair price and I am a valued customer when I shop here. They remember your face, your preferences and your shopping history. And, I trust their service. read more

I came to European Jewelry to get a diamond replaced on my girlfriend's ring. It was not a big purchase, but Nancy was extremely helpful and very friendly.
