Recently, I one of our kitchen fluorescent lights began strobing (flashing on and off). As I had replaced the ballast a few years ago, it was probably either the other ballast or the bulb. After buying a replacement bulb (which is getting harder to find as they are "outlawed" now by the folks in Sacramento) I learned that it was not the bulb as the flashing continued. I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to LED rather than chase a second ballast. This was about a 10x difference out of pocket but as I just got paid by a couple of side jobs, we could afford it. Based on Yelp reviews, I called Evan's Handyman Co. Everything from there until completion went as well as I could have asked for. A professional of theirs stopped by, gave me a firm bid, we scheduled time, they called when an earlier slot opened up, and the work was done by 7 minutes after the original start time. Evan ghosted me after charging a hefty price for my shed assembly ... he was so nice, phony I guess. The shed kit I'd supplied was not assembled correctly. They, unfortunately, used 3 different fastener-types to put it together so it cannot be taken-apart and corrected. The shed-kit came with instructions, with links to videos, and the first pages detail the FLOOR REINFORCING KIT installation. Evan and his team did not install the floor joists that came with the kit, there's no way to install them now. Total waste. Maybe he'll call after seeing this review? ::;( Silly, wordy, response. This is a dude who is going to be a "General B Contractor" in CA and, after weeks of studying, still does not know how to follow instructions, which are posted online with videos all over YouTube. A "Contractor" immediately accepts responsibility for following Manufacturer's Instructions -- When there is no written 'codes' a Grneral-B must refer to Manufacturer's Specs. Thats a fact JACK! And you will still be able to buy your license and continue to do "Cali-Quality" construction. I accept all of the mistakes made above the foundation; Your Team not tying the top plates together, not using glue on the floor, not using the correct nails (he shot bright nails that back out), using deck-screws on the siding, not installing the rafters over the wall studs, not sheathing the roof correctly, cutting the asphalt paper too short (exposes the gaps he left at the eaves ... I can correct all of that, even though I'M DISABLED. I trusted you to know how to do your job -- your VICTIM BLAMING is expected as all Fascists utilize this deflection. read more

This company was very easy to work with. Worked to install a water heater and did a professional job.

Overall disappointed. During our consult, we went over specific items to be done around the home. Evan is nice, but placating to the point where I do not think he listens to the specific aspects of a project...like patching and painting wall mounts and photograph mounts. He will send his brother Ricky, and the task will not be completed. In fairness, he will say, "oh, no problem" we'll take care of it right away, but each time I tour the home, I noticed that there were still mounting nails and pinholes that were not done. At the end of the punchlist of items that we asked to be done, Evan stated that they were almost done, but an exterior water bib broke off because it was obviously dilapidated and unmaintained. Basically, blaming the homeowner that the hose bib was broken. Furthermore, their company is not licensed, so you need to be mindful as to the work they represent they are able to do. They stated they would be able to fix/replace a drainpipe under two bathrooms, and Evan mentioned they work under a contractor's license, but they do not. At least, I cannot find him under the CSLB, and I have asked for license and bond information, but he has not provided that to me. 5 days after he was fully paid, and during the first open house, my wife noticed pinholes and mounting brackets near the ceiling (that was missed). I asked Evan to come right away and finish what we paid him. He has since refused, and stated they will not come back out. read more

Make sure if you choose to go with Evan's handyman you are 100 % sure of what you need. Based on the info I provided, I was given an estimate over the phone for 400$. Evan's team arrived and it appeared the wall did not need to be ripped out. He said he will save me money by not having to do drywall work, but still made his 400$ because that was the work they were prepared to do! He could not pull out laminate planks because he did not have the "tools" but came prepared with tools to rip open the wall??? lol. Charged 400$ for less than 20 mins of doing absolutely nothing, which included a mileage fee even though the map shows Tracy as an area of service. He would not even lower the amount or meet halfway of the initially quoted amount even after absolutely no work was performed. The people who you are getting over on, work just as hard if not harder to make an HONEST living and provide. He then said he will send an estimate for the work that needs to be done, which was never sent. I asked for it few days later and he responded with an estimate over a week later. He knew what he did and did not want to come back. Enjoy that easy $ u made. Forget a free estimate, a reasonable estimate does not even exist with Evan's Handyman. read more

This is the 2nd time I have used Evan's Handyman Co. I have been exceptionally happy with their service. John has done everything from putting together shelves for me and re-hanging a heavy bedroom mirror, to putting together a Turkish lamp. Today I needed several new wall hangings hung. This company is not reliable. I left 2 voicemails and completed the online information. I did not receive a response. I called a 3rd time and Evan answered the phone. I explained what I needed done and he said he can do it. He asked for pictures of the project and I sent them right away. He said he would be able to come to my home the following week (Tue or Wed) to look at the job and give me a quote. Who would of thought the soft spoken guy has no integrity. While his jobs are not bad, but good luck if you have a few projects for this guy to come back to finish them all. When I said like pulling teeth begging for him to finish, that doesn't scratch the surface. Pulling teeth probably a lot easier than that. He will require you to pay everyday when he finish the job even though he will have to come back the next day anyway. That is not a problem for us. But now become problem when he removed your exhaust fan, you can't cook inside the house without the fan. He supposed to comeback to instal the new fan but he keep giving us the round around all reasons under the moon. From his teeth problem, he can't talk returning phone call (why not text?) but whatever. And then his brother got Covid, and then his wife having a baby. We called him and leave messages but he's disappeared. The kitchen light the ones he install blinking until today he won't come back to fix that. Evan Plata, as a good human being with integrity you should at least come back to fix your job. Now we know why you ask for payment the end of the day when your job ended even you supposed to come back anyway. Because you know your self you might not coming back. Never mind after you removed our exhaust fan and you don't have the integrity to come back to finish at least that. You left us with no cooking inside for months. When you telling all your lies when my friend was there she said I can tell a lier written all over his face. I said I think he's a honest guy. But my fried was right. He can tell a lier better than me. I dont how you sleep at night knowing you have unfinish business. But again people no integrity they have no problem doing that. When he lies to you or he dont show up, he will tell you that, "Im sorry I just drop the ball on this one." Thats his lines. How many times you have to drop the ball Evan Plata? If you have one day project and you are lucky to have him show up, them you probably be Ok. But good luck if his job went wrong and he needs to come back to fix it. That will be different story.
