Parrillada Paiso.... This enormous serving was for 2, though it could easily feed a small family!
    Marie B.

It's a hidden gem, located in a shopping plaza across HEB (Louetta Glen & Holzwarth). Clean & cozy, the atmosphere is homey and comfortable. Food tastes fresh (not greasy), is flavorful & cooked well, and portions are generous. Our first time here, we shared the Parrillada Paiso for 2. It was an extravagant mountain of grilled meat (served with rice, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, and tortillas) that could have easily fed a small family! The short ribs and carne asada fajitas were marinated well & tender... A definite bang for your buck. My only critique is that I wasn't a fan of the salsas. The red salsa was too chunky for my liking. The big pieces of vegetables were a little too much for each bite and weighed too heavy on the chips.... The green salsa is a verde-tomatillo sauce that was a little too tart for me. Enjoyed the ambiance very much. We will likely come back to try other menu items.

    Tacos al carbon

My colleague had said good things about Eva's, so I had been meaning to pay them a visit. I finally visited for lunch on a weekend lunch and saw they have happy hour 6 days a week. It was very slow and no employees were up front except for a lady going around filling waters. I guess I came during their slow period of the day. I was finally seated after about 5 minutes. Even after the initial wait, I was still able to get in and out pretty quickly for a sit-down type restaurant....so that was great. Chips and salsa are a good measure on how the food will taste. If I don't like them, I probably won't like the food. I didn't really like either of their salsas. The red one was warm and a little spicy, while the green one was more refreshing. I ordered the tacos al carbon since I wasn't hungry enough for the fajitas, which are about $3 more. With the tacos, they give you 2 tortillas like most places and fill them up with quite a bit of meat. The fajita meat was nicely marinated/seasoned. Worth the extra price you pay to come here versus taco cabana for instance. May come back and try their happy hour. They have 2 locations which was a surprise to me.

On a search for better salsa we attempted Eva's... When we walked in we were kinda told to just sit anywhere. I say kinda bc it was more a quick "you can go" over the shoulders of the girl at the front. We sat with no menus for a few minutes. We got menus after chips and salsa deliver and drink order. I got a Chicken Fajita Taco Salad and hubs a Chalupa plate. NOTHING HAD FLAVOR! The red sauce was pretty much tomato paste and cumin, green was a slimy smashed tomatillo salsa. This place could benefit greatly from some lemon/lime, garlic, cilantro, salt! Really anything. The waiter was okay. The atmosphere was old and outdated. Very dirty. Blinds were down next to us and had grease splashed and finger prints all over them. The windowsill had little dead bugs all down it with pealing paint. I guess our search continues.

My wife said that the chicken enchiladas are the best she has ever had! It is right across from the 2920 HEB near I-45. We found a new spot and will be back.

The food is phenomenal! The service is superb! Every time we eat here it is exceptional. It has quickly become me and my family's favorite restaurant to eat at. Their enchiladas are delicious and the food tastes so fresh. The happy hour margaritas are the icing on the cake! And it's very affordable too. 10/10 my new favorite restaurant.

Solid good Mexican food. I wasn't wild on the chips and salsa, but the carne guisado was good. Will be a return customer.

First, I was like lamb chops and black beans together?? but they pair well together! The presentation of the lamb chops was cool, as they come out hanging on a rack. The previous dining experience before this one, was not good, but I didn't post about it. I was really hoping it was a one time issue. The chips were so greasy you feared eating them for getting sick. The manager acknowledged how bad they were, and said they had an issue with the supplier. He said rather than not serve chips, they decided to serve them. They were inedible. Also the once delicious salsa has gotten watery. After my food arrived, I sent the taco back because the shell was the same as the chips. So greasy and the taco poured grease out of it. This last trip, the chips were better, but still very greasy and tasteless. The nachos I had would be about the quality of Chilis. No refried beans. Most restaurants layer refried beans, cheese and meat for SIX almost $20 dollar nachos. The chicken fajita meat was dry, and the beef was not good. A few bites were not edible. Another note- The once delicious tortillas were super thick and gummy. The manager came by and I explained everything to him . He didn't have much to say and didn't really seem concerned... other than taking off $2 of the bill. Which I do appreciate! It's still a beautiful restaurant, just sadly the food has changed too much for it be a top place for me.
