Utterly disgusted at their discriminating behavior towards the Hijabi women last Saturday night. The policy said that if the tables aren't available, you had 1/3rd of the tables empty and there were a group of white women sitting there for over an hour which they themselves reported. I live in Wrightwood and order food regularly from the Evergreen Cafe. Today on 1/2/2, I have to say I had the worst experience in my 3 years of visiting the Evergreen Cafe. I called ahead and placed my order to pick up. I walked in and said hello to the young waitress behind the counter, she ignored me. I stood in the restaurant for 10 min and no one said hello or even acknowledged that I was there. Then a group of people walked in and ordered hot chocolate, the waitress immediately took their order, took their payment, and proceeded to make them 5-6 cups of hot chocolate and she took them outside to the group. All the while I was looking at my to-go food sitting in the bag on the counter. Finally, when I was about to walk out, the waitress asked me " how many". Absolutely the worst service I have ever received at the Cafe. I usually leave a tip, even on the to-go orders, this time I did not, and it will be a long time before the Evergreen Cafe gest my business again. Food is always good, which is why they get 3 stars. read more

Very standard diner fare, but the staff couldn't be more charming. We tried for Grizzly Cafe, since they had a more interesting menu, but the wait was bonkers. Evergreen did not disappoint. I got an iced tea and a tuna melt and it harkened back to my early days of late-night study sessions at a great diner back home. Comfort food to the max. Next day trip to Wrightwood, we'd start at Evergreen and not think twice. Thanks for the great service and the unique space! read more

I was up in Wrightwood recently because I really wanted to see the snow. It had rained in the desert and so I thought to go up into the mountains nearby and drive around and just kind of check out the scenery. Wrightwood is a smaller town that's closest to where I live compared to the other mountain towns and is only about a 35 minute drive away where it would be an hour or more to other mountain towns like Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead. Wrightwood has a couple of eateries and I was able to find this restaurant as I parked and walked around what seemed to be the main commercial zone for the town which is basically on one main side street off the highway. I hadn't eaten yet so I was fairly hungry and so decided I'd have breakfast. It's a smaller place they have a counter with booths for dining making it cozy to eat here. I didn't want to sit at the counter so I was able to get a booth for myself which I appreciated especially being in such smaller quarters. The place was decorated with all kinds of items hanging from the ceiling. I believe they change it up based on the holiday that is coming up. It was early February so Valentine's Day was coming up and so they had appropriate decorations to celebrate this pagan holiday which was originally a fertility festival called Lupercalia celebrated by the pagans of Europe centuries ago. I ordered a basic breakfast of a Denver omelet. It wasn't the best tasting omelet that I've had in my life and I don't know how you can make it taste better but perhaps adding a few more spices and ingredients to jazz the flavor up a little bit more would help. I had decided on french fries instead of the hash browns or home fries which were offered because I was craving it for some reason and they were average. My plate also came with a side of biscuits and gravy a a choice. I though the gravy was a bit too much. Strange how in these parts (high desert), biscuits and gravy seem to be a thing around here. The biscuits were fresh tasting so I probably would have asked for the gravy to be separated next time instead of poured over the biscuits. All in all I would say it was decent meal, nothing special, highly carb concentrated. That being said, I still would definitely come back again if I was up in this area especially it since it's very limited up here for dining choices but it's still a good place to grab a meal and it's a family-owned business of which I'm highly supportive. read more

I had spent a few days backpacking and was imagining the perfect diner I'd like to visit. Since I knew I'd pass thru Wrightwood on my way home, I was thinking I'd love to find a diner similar to one in the original "Twin Peaks" series. A place that made me feel at home and welcome. I saw this place out of the corner of my eye and made a U-turn to get back to it. I'm thankful I did. Everything from the decor, the aroma and how I was greeted made me feel I'd made a good choice. The waitress was sincere, attentive and kind. The owner came and spoke with me. The food was excellent and the portions were generous. The coffee was just right as well. I'm excited for my next backpacking trip as I know exactly where I want to go when I come down the mountain. read more

I've had better service at a truck stop Waffle House at 3 am. Servers are rude and unprofessional. Forget orders, blame it on the cooks, food is nothing to write home about. This place only stays in business because of a lack of options in town. Rick's has a better breakfast and superior service. The yoddler across the street has better dinner and the staff is incredible. Don't waste your time at the evergreen. read more

Amazingly decorated diner! Very quaint and cute looking place! Hundreds of Christmas decorations hung from the ceiling. Prices were fair. Food was served hot. Sweet potato fries were excellent. Food overall was diner quality. Mac and cheese (Kraft) was from a package. My young daughter loved it. Some vegetarian options. Friendly staff. Place could use some renovation. Updated Review: So happy to see all of the crowds back at Evergreen again. They have a ton of outdoor dining for visitors, and they serve breakfast and lunch/dinner items throughout the day. Friendly & quick service, and their Bloody Mary is delicious! Try the animal fries (can't remember what they call them, but it's like In N Out), or the sweet potato fries with their homemade ranch. We found this place one day while up in Wrightwood. We've come back several times and have yet to have bad meal. Breakfast is served all day but you'll want a burger and fries or a number of other items they offer. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! read more

This spot was super chill. The waitress Called us honey and had good jokes. There were owls hanging from the ceiling as I dipped sweet potato fries into my egg and syrup. Would recommend as a spot to eat and sip hot cocoa after shredding upon mountain high all day. read more

Came here for the first time for the AC100 endurance run. This restaurant is pretty small, it was already packed when I walked inside so I wasn't able to enjoy all the decor in there, but I was able to sit outside on the patio with a great view of the mountain. The service was great, the bus boy kept refilling my water. I ordered the Texas toast and the kitchen burrito. The toasts were a little smaller that I was expected, the burrito was nice and warm. I was glad I came here earlier cuz they actually have a waiting list when I left, even the patio seating. Great little restaurant overall!! read more

Sometimes on quiet days in town there is a wait because the cashier is also responsible for preparing the food/drinks, but it's always reasonable. The prices are very fair, they do not hit you with the "mountain tax" at all. The drip coffee is tasty and the espresso is good as well! I haven't had the pastries yet but they look good, especially the donuts, and I'm excited to come back and taste them. Today I had the breakfast burrito, the cashier was very helpful and accommodating of some recent dietary restrictions I have developed, and she made me a great burrito! I swapped out the bacon for avocado (not normal for me, but like I said, dietary restrictions) and it was just as good as with bacon! My burrito has avocado, eggs, hash browns and tomatoes, and it was exactly what I needed. Good to note that the only bread option is sourdough, however, it is very tasty homemade and fresh sourdough, which is quite the treat. Unfortunately, not for me today, but I have enjoyed it in the past. I usually get to go and drive up the hill to picnic with a view, but I'm looking forward to eating in one day. That atmosphere is very cozy and calm, both the inside and the patio are nice. Speaking of atmosphere, I was happy to see many pride and pro LGBTQ flags in the restaurant, helping foster a welcoming environment for all. TLDR - 1. Good food , good coffee , very fair prices. Mostly serving sandwiches, pastries, coffee. 2. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere and staff. 3. Big wine selection. 4. Cozy interior or nice patio for Al fresco dining.

Our waitress was lovely and very sweet. And the inside of this eatery was home-y, cozy, and quaint. Wrightwood is a ski town that mostly wasn't a ski town this winter. The mountain sat there, green…read moreand dry, collecting nothing, and the little village at its base did what mountain towns do in snowless years: it waited. The shops stayed open. The Raccoon Saloon poured drinks. The hikers came instead of the skiers, which is a different energy entirely -- quieter, soberer, less likely to require a boot dryer. You adjust. And you eat at Mexico Lindo, because Mexico Lindo is the kind of restaurant that every small California mountain town has, or should have, or once had before someone replaced it with a gastropub. You know this place. You've been eating at this place your entire life, in different buildings under different names in every town from Big Bear to Idyllwild to Tehachapi. The booths are deep. The menu is laminated and enormous -- four pages, maybe five, covering every permutation of tortilla, protein, cheese, and sauce that the Mexican-American restaurant tradition has produced over the past sixty years. Combo plates with rice and beans. Enchiladas. Burritos. Fajitas that arrive on a sizzling cast iron plate with the requisite theatrics of smoke and noise. A molcajete. A seafood section that the name promises and the menu delivers. A margarita list long enough to suggest that someone here takes tequila seriously, or at least takes the selling of it seriously, which for your purposes amounts to the same thing. This is not the Mexican food that gets written about. Nobody is driving up the 2 from La Cañada to evaluate the mole or compare the tortillas to what you'd find in Oaxaca or even Boyle Heights. That is not the assignment. The assignment, when you are in Wrightwood on a warm weekend that should have been cold, with hiking dust on your boots and nowhere to be, is to sit in a booth and eat a combo plate and drink a margarita and feel the particular comfort of food that isn't trying to impress you. Mexico Lindo is not trying to impress you. It is trying to feed you, which is a different and in some ways more generous ambition. The service is warm and unhurried. The portions are large. They brought a sombrero out for the birthday girl in our group, which is the kind of thing that would be corny if it weren't so obviously sincere, and sincerity is hard to fake when you're placing a giant hat on a stranger's head and getting the whole restaurant to sing. They have Mexican candy shots, which you should order because you are in a mountain town and the rules are different here. Every small town in California needs a Mexico Lindo. Most of them have one. It also came with a couple of ranch dressing dip. The menu also offers pasta, calzones, salad, garlic bread, and more! There are no tables inside, but there are a few outside to dine at. I thought there could have been a little bit more of the cheese curd, it was fried, but I know every place makes theirs a little different. The atmosphere is great; it reminds you of a cabin on the inside and of course you're in Wrightwood CA so it's a perfect mountain hangout. The tables are clean, the area swept up and a very inviting indoor environment as outdoor environment. This is a rustic environment, so don't expect four-star accommodation. Again, as I said, it is perfect for this area, and I would expect nothing less. The service was great, we had two or three different servers, and they were always polite, knew their menu well, and offered upgrades. Had a great conversation with this server and he had been coming up there for years himself before working there. His daughter and wife were outside, and he would periodically chat with them which made us feel like it was a great family environment. The menu is varied and they have some excellent hamburgers; I have had the patty melt in the past. There is something about being 5000 feet above sea level, having a cold drink, and hot food; it's amazing. If you happen to be up in the Wrightwood area stop by at this place you will not regret it the food is hot and tasty, the beer is cold and the service and ambience is excellent,

Visit #1: Service was awful. Food took forever. Server gave me the wrong food and then blamed it on me, saying I ordered the wrong thing. But being in the food industry, I figured we'd give them a second chance. I thought she was slammed & probably just having an off day. Visit #2: Service was again awful, actually she was a female dog. Food again took forever. Same server was more interested in chit chatting with other employees (including the manager) than serving our table. She took our drink order but didn't bring us drinks for almost 10 min. She only gave refills when we waved her down & even then, didn't bring the refill back to the table until reminded. When reminded, she would finish her conversation to let us know how little she thought about serving our table. Both times we were seated & not helped for at least 20-30 minutes. Both times people were seated after us but received service and their food way before us. The kicker, was a large Hispanic family came in after we were seated. 8 in their party. They basically kicked them out. It was clear our server did not want to serve them. They told them to wait outside with their babies (24 degree weather, I might add) but did not explain that they do not have a waiting room. They wouldn't tell them how long the wait would be & it was uncomfortable how clearly racist they were. At this point it finally occurred to me, being of middle eastern decent (seated with 3 white skin people), they thought I was Hispanic or just didn't like all people with olive skin. After both the server & the manager handled the family painfully, they joked about it in the store. Saying how the family told them they were going to put a bad review on yelp and laughing how they didn't care. Well, I do care. You might not & the owner might not check this or care themself. Even if they did, we will never be back. But I hope that other's will not waste their time, money or tip on IGNORANT people like this. FWI, I am in the service industry & typically tip 30%. read more

EVERGREEN CAFE: TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE!!! Wait did I say TERRIBLE!? As a paying customer I would HOPE to not be treated like I'm sitting in some GOD awful place with attitude!! Server Twyla or whatever her name was WAS VERY RUDE! So rude in fact that my husband and I were about to walk out without paying and we NEVER do that! Food was "OK" and by that I mean I could have stayed home and cooked and been way more satisfied! I was charged extra for things that were supposed to come with my meal, there was a fly in my iced tea, then an ant!! To make matters even worse I had a RAT, yes a RAT run over my foot! When it was brought to the rude, inconsiderate waitresses attention, her sorry of even an apologetic excuse was its probably because of the construction that brought it in!! REALLY!? The smell was terrible! Reminded me of sitting in a porta-potty that had be festering in 110* heat! I had enough and was ready for a drink.....when we decided god only knows why to go to the bar next door. RACOON SALOON: So not too bad of a place or so we thought! Drinks are a little pricey and seem to have the same problem with things floating in them...After observing the again attitude ridden bartender we saw why. She was cutting their lemons over the ice. She even went out for a smoke and came back in WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS AND PROCEEDED TO TAKE CHERRIES AND PEPERONCINI OUT OF THE JAR WITH HER BARE HANDS. I was thinking that after the GOD AWFUL SERVICE at the Evergreen Cafe that I had had enough, but our friends showed up so we stayed (wish we wouldn't have!!!!) Shift change or whatever they consider a change happened. A middle aged bald male came in, threw hard looks, had (what seems to be very common here) attitude and even was a bit "over" sexually harassing towards my friend and i! VERY INAPPROPRIATE THINGS WERE SAID! It was DISGUSTING! I had it!! NEVER AGAIN WILL I EVER EVER EVER EVER GO HERE!!! Came here on Sunday. It is a pretty small place. We ordered chicken burger and French toast. The burger was great, french fries or a very fresh that came with the sandwich. However, the French toast was terrible. They pretty much depth the French toast in oil, fried it and served it. Inside The toast was dry and pretty much tasted like regular bread. The oatmeal portion was large for a "cup." The bowl size portion, even larger, of course, would be good by itself for breakfast. The oatmeal was nicely textured, smooth, and creamy. Service was exemplary and friendly. The dining room is comfortable. This place will definitely go on rotation as a breakfast choice. Parking is plentiful in their lot.
