I only go to tanning salons every seven years or so.... When I do... I rely on the advice of the people working there to tell me what I should do. I told the attendant that I and not been to a salon in at least five years and that everything from my shoulders to my thighs have not seen the sun in a long time. I wanted to get a base tan before going to Mexico. She said using a number three on Tuesday and then a number five on Thursday would do the trick. I went in for 15 minutes on a number three and have the worst sunburn I have ever had in my life. It is Friday and I'm about to leave for my trip and I don't think that I'll be able to expose most of my skin to the sun for the entire five days of my holiday. Yes, I'm in my 40s and I should've done some research, but you would think the staff would be more responsible than that. I even had to ask her to remind me how to turn on the machine... The level of my sunburn is actually quite dangerous. If you do not know what you are doing, do not go to this salon. read more

Just moved to the area, and found iTan by passing by and seeing the sign. Walked in, and was warmly greeted. I had a previous membership with a different salon. I was impressed with the knowledge the girls had, and how friendly they were. I started off with the nicer package, and have liked the experience so far. UPDATE: Was contacted by the manager this morning. She understood my concerns and ended up giving me a free tan for the inconvenience. Up-ed their rating from two to four-stars for this reason. Went to iTan for the first time today. It was actually my first time using a tanning bed. Was greeted by a really nice employee working the front desk. She explained the different types of tanning beds, packages, and deals they had. I ended up getting the 5 tans for $89 promotion they are currently running. This gives me access to 35 credits which I could use on any level of tans that I want, the highest being 7 for the nicer tanning beds. Since it was my first time, I decided to use the Sun Angel, which is one of their nicer beds. It was, even with my minimal tanning bed knowledge, a pretty nice tanning bed that talks you through the whole process. After getting past the first 5 minutes and finally settling in, I noticed that one of the shoulder lights wasn't working.. In order to avoid a random, uneven shoulder tan I decided to turn off the shoulder lights. A couple of the top lightbulbs were also not working. Other than those issues, I felt good after finishing the tan. I felt slightly crisp, so it definitely did something. We'll see how it settles, I've heard that you have to go a few times before really seeing results. Anyway, my point in this lengthy review and reason for the low rating is that for a one time $35 tan in the Sun Angel, it should all work properly. When I walked out and asked the attendant (different from the one that signed me up), she said that she would let maintenance know. Had I not actually gotten the $89 promotion, and instead paid $35 for a one time tan, I would have been way more pissed. All I'm saying is if you want to charge people $35 for a tan, the tanning bed should fully work and be up to quality. When I asked if they were able to get me a free tan for the inconvenience, she said that she would submit something to her manager and there are no guarantees. Didn't take my name down (granted she probably can find it in the system) or any other info regarding how I should hear back from the manager. I love this iTAN! I've been coming here for about 3 years. The customer service at this location is amazing! All of the staff are so friendly and really try to get to know you. I feel like everyone here goes above and beyond. They always suggest good and affordable products and tip me off about sales they have coming up so I can get a better deal. Is horrible at her job she didn't give me any instructions and didn't let me know to pull the tanning bed down so they charged me 55$ and I didn't even get a good tan at all. She was horrible, snobby and very rude and didn't refund me on anything, after the machine was faulty. She gave me a snobby answer and walked away and said I'm not gonna give you more time. I live in PB and this Itan is super convenient. The staff is always super friendly and I've never had an issue until recently... It says they close at 9 on Fridays and a woman came in around 845 to use the Mystic. There was a line of about 4 people (including myself) and they said they are "no longer taking people for mystic because there is already a line and so it will go past closing time." I'm sorry but if someone drives all the way there and gets there 15 minutes before closing to get what their membership pays for they should not be turning people away. The girls working even went as far as to tell the woman the mission valley location is open until 10. Driving all the way to mission valley?! HELL NO. In my opinion it's because they wanted to get out on a Friday night and go out. Luckily, I was not the person this happened to but I felt the need to write a review because I thought it was insane. If you're going to not take people in the spray tan beds 15 mins before closing then you need to post it so people know before they go all the way there. Not sure if the managers read these yelp reviews but if they do you need to talk to the girls who worked Friday night on 3/15 about turning people away. read more

All I have to say is $10 Mystic Mondays - you don't have to have a membership or anything, makes mystic tanning on the reg affordable. Also, I didn't realize that you can do a mystic tan without bronzer in the solution and it made all the difference in the world, my tan looked so much more natural and I didnt have any of the brown stuff all over me and my clothes, it has seriously changed my entire view of the mystic tan forever. read more

Been getting AIRBRUSH TANS here off and on for the last year. They seem expensive at first, but you can get a good deal if you buy a package of them. I bought it so long ago that I can't remember how much I paid and I still have a few tans left. All of the employees have been very professional and courteous. If you have been getting Mystic tans that are "just okay", you should seriously consider the airbrush tans. I'm very white and used to mess up my Mystic tans on accident. The airbrush is so much better! They are able to balance out your tan lines (within reason), the tan wears much more evenly and looks more believable. Also make sure to do the proper preparation before your airbrush (or Mystic): arrive showered & shaved (but no lotion or deodorant) and wear dark loose fitting clothing. Afterwards, wash your hands 2 hours post-tan so they are a bit lighter. Don't shower for 12 hours. If your sheets get a bit dirty, wash them right away and they won't stain. Ask your airbrush girl any questions since they are experts and be sure to tell them if you want to be darker or lighter-- I went a bit too dark the first time and it's probably because I mentioned I was going to Vegas! Remember.... Make an appointment for the airbrush tans! They don't always have someone scheduled who is trained to do them, so you need to make an appointment. I love that I can get a balanced natural tan without laying in the sun! read more

Pros: the girls are nice and the place is clean Cons: the $29 membership fee and the cancellation process When I went in to cancel my membership, the girl told me that she couldn't process it because the printer was broken and I needed to sign some forms. This was at the end of the month, so I told her that if I didn't cancel that day, I was going to get charged for another month of tanning that I didn't want. She assured me that it would be taken care of, but that was not the case. I ended up spending an extra $50 on a month of tanning that I couldn't use because I moved back home. read more

I didn't mention initially, but the girls working there are all beautiful, and always try to expedite the process at the front counter. I've almost never had to wait. One employee noticed my previous review of the salon on Yelp.com when I went in recently, and thought she would go above and beyond to try and correct the situation. As a result of my one time less than satisfactory experience, she upgraded my membership for a month, gratis. It's this kind of customer service that makes me want to continue doing business with this iTan. Try finding that at a competitor-you won't. As a side note, I went to another iTan location in San Diego (Morena), and tried going tanning, because I was in the area. Apparently, that location isn't apart of the same ownership as the one I signed up at, and the employee there said normally they don't allow the memberships to cross-over, but she would make an exception that one time. Something to consider, depending on where you live, but there's certainly many other locations you can go to in the San Diego area. read more

I'm a high pressure tanner and just use those beds since I don't like going to a tanning salon more than 1x a week. This location is packed which is why I don't go here unless there is a great special. I went last due to a free tan for signing up for Vavi. The bed was excellent. It didn't get too hot and I didn't leave sweating. They don't have specials too often. Best place to tan. These girls are knowledgeable! and i thought i knew everything about tanning! they have tons of options and different packages... mostly based around a point system. but if you tell them what your goal is they will tell you what is best for you. make sure you go to their website to check out their deals/coupons for new and existing customers...you have to print them and bring them in. they also have specials every month, and those are the most cost efficient. also, you can go to any of their locations at any time. i usually float between this one and the one close to UTC area... but that one has less beds and gets crowded around peak hours. also they have mystic tan mondays (ask to make sure) but its $10 to mystic tan on mondays. i usually call before to ask and they dont advertise it but as far as i know they still do it. last i checked was last week of june (2010). read more

Although normal packages are pretty pricy their deals are awesome ! During the holiday season I Bought 5 visits for 50 bucks -- and that was for ANY bed. That being said the Sun Angel is amazing, I can go in it one time and keep my tan for weeks. It adjusts to your body and pretan- the darker you are naturally, the stronger the facial / body bulbs will work! So you never burn! Love this bed! read more

I'm from Oregon and haven't been to a tanning salon in SD that I enjoyed...either the beds were crap or the girls were not super nice....iTan has both amazing beds and suuuuuper nice staff!! Besides having everything, here tanning both spray & bed, massage, teeth whitening, light stim facials, & my 2 favs fit body wraps & a hydration station using inferred lights, steam & a lil shake...aahhh 20 mins of pure relaxation. I was nervous because it was cold outside but was pleasantly surprised that the machine had heaters! This is not my first time to an itan, but my first time to this one. It's really beautiful and very clean. I've gotten a spray tan before, quite some time ago. I did not remember all the rules so the girl that helped me Victoria was so sweet and patient. She was very personable. I get a little intimidated with places like this. I'm not a super girly girl so some stuff scares me! She went over everything, something's twice! She made me feel very comfortable and was very helpful. I would recommend going to any other San Diego location and avoiding this PB iTan. The rooms don't have ceilings so the place feels like a makeshift, "under construction" campground as you can hear what is going on in all the other rooms/stalls. The reception staff is not particularly friendly or welcoming. The receptionists are not knowledgeable about the services offered; just want to shuttle customers in and out as fast as possible. This is a bare bones tanning salon if you want to get a spray tan and go. Not a pleasurable or luxurious experience by any stretch of the imagination. read more

i enjoyed they had mints at the front (mission valley does NOT) i did not care for the tanning rooms having the framing visible for the walls... the mission valley location appears more "finished" once in the rooms... the location is NOT easy to find (hence my photos from the parking) the parking here is TERRIBLE - the lot is not easy to navigate and is pretty much ALWAYS full. the upside is they are near a starbucks (2 actually including the one in Vons) as well as a bagel place & jamba juice so u can go early morning, tan and get your goodies all in one shot. overall just "ok" read more

My new sanctuary. I used to manage a planet beach contempo spa in arizona which had the lumier facial, hydration station, etc. I'm pretty addicted to the hydration but havnt done it in years. I like to tan as well so I got the package that allows me to tab and do spa services unlimited. This is a $100 package which is really pricy but once you do the math it's a steal. If I hydrate 3 times and tan in a basic bed that alone is $100. I forsee myself hydration 3 times a week or so. That being said it will be worth it. I almost deducted a star because there's nothing worse that hydrating then realizing the consultant didn't give you a robe so you have to get completely dressed and then go into a tanning bed. I didn't take a star away because I figure everyone will read this and be extra attentive to having a robe in the hydration station's room. So pleased to have found this place! read more

Customer service here is top notch. I usually do Versa Spa sprays but tried Mystic last week. It didn't work well with my skin at all and I was left with tan feet, white arms, and splotchy hands.
