Evie Mae's BBQ is worth the trip and a revisit in the future! My family enjoys hunting for great Texas BBQ. We have completed the 2017 and 2021 TX Monthly Top 50 BBQ list. We started the 2025 list and we are more than half-way through the list as of June 2026. Heading to the spots in West Texas takes some logistical planning, patience, and lots of gas for the drive from the Texas Gulf Coast. On our recent BBQ quest to West Texas, my family stopped at one our favorite spots (top 5), Evie Mae's BBQ in Woolworth. This was our third time to visit Evie Mae's. I'm a Texas Trinity traditionalist. So we always order the brisket, ribs, and sausage. The brisket was very good - great bark, nice smoke ring, and well seasoned. I will say the brisket was a bit drier than I remember but I will chalk that up to us arriving thirty minutes before they closed. Ribs were excellent - smokey sweet and moist. We got the Jalapeño Cheese sausage which was a wonderfully spicy and cheesy with a a nice snap to the casing. We also had the Cheesy Grits and Potato Salad which were wonderful. The pint of cheesy grits were completely gone. We also picked up a couple of the homemade cakes to complement our leftovers. Oh, did I mention the free beer too? That always accentuates the BBQ experience. The restaurant is still as warm and inviting as before. Parking is easy. The staff took good care of us and were still in good spirits before closing. The first time we were there we got to meet Mallory Armis who sold us on the Green Chile cheesy grits and we aren't big fans of grits. We look forward to there grits. While we briefly saw Mallory this time she was busy. Hoping to meet Armis next time we're back. Hat's off to the pitmasters and staff at Evie Mae's BBQ. We'll be back.

Evie Mae's BBQ absolutely lives up to the hype. I got in line at 10:30am for the 11am opening, and even though the line looked long, it moved surprisingly fast - they really have efficiency down. The free beer while you wait is such a fun touch and makes the whole experience even better. The staff is some of the friendliest people you'll meet. Once you pick up all your food, there's plenty of large low top and high top tables to enjoy. The beef rib was insanely tender, the chile sausage was my favorite (packed with flavor and perfectly cooked), and the brisket was exactly what you want: juicy, smoky, and melt-in-your-mouth good. Everything is smoked low and slow and cut to order, and you can truly taste the care behind it. The potato casserole was so comforting and a unique side!

Arrived at noon waited 60 minutes they ran out of the beef rib & turkey to be expected . Yes worth the wait. The favorite was the pork rib & grits . The deserts are so tasty. Free beer doesn't hurt . Def a place to try if you don't mind the wait

YES come here and get the brisket!! The ribs were our second favorite. Sides: potato casserole was the best, also tried the corn, collard greens, and corn bread. Free beers, need I say more. Don't drink the water. It is literally brown. Awesome that the bread, pickles, onions, peppers are all self serve. We came on a weekday around lunch time and there was a small line (maybe 8 people ahead of us) but plenty of food left at 1pm. I hear on weekends this place is crazy busy and they run out of the best stuff before 2pm so come early. Plenty of seating, first come first serve, casual atmosphere.

I think going to school in Lubbock had me spoiled. When a place like Evie Mae's was only a 15-minute drive from your apartment, it was easy to expect all BBQ to reach the highs of a Texas Monthly Top 10 BBQ joint. I always returned to Evie Mae's every three months or so, and it was always a great start-of-the-school-year and end-of-the-school-year option for me. From my past experiences, here are a few things I know: there is always a line, but the line moves quicker than most BBQ joints. The food is served down the line from when you place your order, but they are always on top of it, and it's ready by the time you make it to the end. The staff is also always on point. They are always so friendly. The space is huge. There is always seating even on a busy Friday or Saturday. The desserts are always a treat. Their pies and banana pudding are so tasty and so tempting. They stare at you through the glass as you order, begging for you to devour a slice of key lime pie. Also, being able to grab your own onions, pickles, jalapeños, and bread definitely helps speed up their efficiency. I think Evie Mae's might be the most efficient BBQ joint I've been to. We got there at 11:45, and from being in a line almost out the door and in a completely filled parking lot, it really only took us about 15 minutes to get our food. EFFICIENCY. Their menu is the standard affair, and I will discuss everything I ordered and my thoughts. Brisket: Very good. They slice it pretty slim, but it's flavorful and juicy. Just so well done and well made. Burnt Ends: Burnt ends, when done well, are like candy, and this was as candy as it could get. Green Chile Cheese Sausage: Their specialty sausage is pretty good. I think sometimes it can be a little too cheesy and miss the kick that a lot of other BBQ joints' sausages have, but I mean, you're comparing high quality to high quality. I would destroy a link of this any day. Pork Ribs: So well done, but they can sometimes be a little tougher than I prefer. The sweetness outweighs that, though, and it's so delightful. Jalapeño Corn: The jalapeño corn is killer. It's not too spicy and is so delectably creamy. Baked Potato Casserole: My personal favorite side. It's like a potato salad mixed with mashed potatoes-- buttery, cheesy, and secretly filled with bits of bacon. If you're ever in Lubbock, this place is a must-stop. The free beer is also an excellent perk, but I recommend walking across the outdoor patio and stopping in at Good Line Public House for some quality brews mixed with the Q. Evie Mae's proves you don't have to sacrifice quality for efficiency. Think of Evie Mae's as a Anthony Davis-like player. Just so dang efficient on the floor. Cool local spot, recommended by many people. I tried brisket 9/10, bbq chicken 7/10, pork ribs 9/10. Beef ribs sold out at 1pm. Collard greens 6/10, potato salad 6/10 and sheet cake 11/10. I really liked the cafeteria style quick service with a smile. They offered a sauce and pickled bar with lots of options. I have already recommended others visiting Lubbock to stop in!

Took my son and grandson for lunch. We arrived right around noon on a Saturday so we expected a line out the door and that's exactly what we got. We got to the front in about 45 minutes so in my opinion it wasn't a long wait. The brisket was flavorful and juicy. The pork ribs were cooked perfectly...not falling off the bone nor tough. The sausage was very tasty. All the sides were fantastic. The green beans were a little sweet and paired with bacon which gave it a sweet and salty contrast. The potato salad and beans were great as well. The staff was friendly and everyone in the restaurant seemed to enjoy the experience. This is a great place to have some of the best bbq in Texas!

Absolutely loved the bbq. The meat was savory and smoky and paired well with the sauce. My favorite was the sausage which had bits of cheese and chiles inside. The potato salad and casserole was a nice side to cut through the meaty bbq. They had a whole pickle bar and bread you can eat with the bbq. Get there early because they do sell out and there's usually a line out the door. Inside was cute and they had a bunch of free seltzers and beer.

AMAZING! Everything we tried was so good. Came here with my family to get a good lunch before having a wedding tonight and it did not disappoint. The whole menu minus the bread was gluten free, so everything other than sandwiches. The line was out the door but they worked through it in 20 minutes, and answered all my questions regarding my allergy with gluten. All desserts are gluten free as well, which is so rare to find! The place was clean and enjoyable. There was plenty of seating; extra bread, pickles, onions, and bbq sauce was available for you to grab based on your preference. Would recommend this place to anyone in the area!

This is the real deal. The top BBQ joint in the city, and with amazing quality/prices. You can see that pretty much someone in every single country has come here on their little pin map at the front (although the few antarctica pins were a lil questionable). Try the pecan pie, you won't be disappointed. Chopped brisket and cheddar jalapeno brisket, are spectacular. The bacon collared greens and corn are amazing sides. Did I mention free beer?? It's out of respect that everyone has an honor policy here. This place is the best version of what Lubbock has to offer, good food, friendly service, and an environment that promotes cohesion/community. No wonder it's been in the KBCD top bbq place for years on top of years, and has awards all across TX. Can't recommend this place enough for those who are visiting LBK for the first time!

Brisket, ribs, sausage, pulled pork, turkey, and chicken.

I should preface this by saying that I've already been to some of the top BBQ joints in the state. Goldee's, Cattleack, and Interstellar to be specific. These have probably given me an unreasonable standard for BBQ. My in-laws live in Amarillo, where there's not much great BBQ to speak of. So my son, father-in-law, and I took a road trip to Evie Mae's. We got there about 15 minutes before they opened and there were probably around 20 people in line. It's a nice building and we could smell smoke when we drove up. One they opened, we only had to wait a few minutes. This has been a longstanding pet peeve, but someone in front of us saved a table for probably more than 30 people and placed a HUGE order. I wish bbq restaurants would process orders of this size separately. Maybe having the person call in or place their order online, then the restaurant could let them know when the order is ready. We ordered brisket, pork ribs, sausage, pulled pork, turkey, chicken, brisket chili, baked potato casserole, street corn, and jalapeño grits. This is where I'm torn. Had I not been to some of the top bbq joints in the state, I think I would have been a lot more impressed. The food was good and I think most people would love it. I just wasn't as impressed as I expected to be. To me, the brisket was tender and juicy, but the flavor was a little bland. It had the flavor profile that most other bbq joints use. Salt, pepper, garlic, and smoked with post oak. I would have preferred stronger seasoning and more smoke flavor. I'm not going to rate them negatively based on an issue of personal preference. But just stating my impressions. In my opinion, the pork ribs were good but not amazing. Not much smoke flavor, but the texture and seasoning were pretty good. Turkey was good. Pulled pork was good. I'm not sure why a lot bbq joints do chicken low and slow, as it leaves the skin tough and inedible. Chicken actually does better at a higher temperature. So the chicken was alright, but probably the weakest item we ordered. I thought the sausage was really good. The jalapeño grits and the corn were my favorite sides. These were great and I would happily order them again. The baked potato casserole was probably the weakest side while the brisket chili was great. All the employees we interacted with were friendly and engaging. The atmosphere was friendly as well. We had more than enough food and none of us were hungry. So there you have it. If you're thinking about going, give them a chance. You may love it. Even though it's not my favorite, I would still eat there again if I was in the area.

Evie Mae's does not disappoint! We came here on a Wednesday to get take out for dinner. We arrived at 10:50 and there were a few people in line. By 11, there were lots of people in line! They have multiple cash registers so they are able to process people quickly. If you desire, you can drink a FREE cold beer. The dining area is spacious and clean and our large order #12 was packed up for us in just a few minutes. Come early and check it out.

bland brisket. Blech! Ordered the meat trio. got three dry, bland, flavorless pieces of brisket. It was tender enough to fall apart in your hands, but the bark was as flavorless as the meat. The cuts I got were dry. The bbq sauce was no help. The ribs were juicy, though the membrane on the back was still attached. The German sausage was filled with grease. I had higher expectations of this place. It reminded me of why I don't like brisket.

Holy crap. This barbecue isn't just good. Or great. Or stupendous. It is CRAZY GOOD!!! Mentioned I'd like to find a great BBQ joint to a coworker and she immediately said "Evie May's!" First good sign, it's in the middle of nowhere. Any restaurant that can thrive as a destination, not next to a bunch of other commerce, has something going on. Second good sign, the smell. Traditional Texas barbecue served here! Third good sign, great menu at a great price! I had the pork ribs, and I'm not kidding you, the best I've ever had! And, by a bunch. Which is saying a lot. Evie Mae's BBQ in Wolfforth, just outside Lubbock, is ranked 8 in Texas Monthly's top BBQ joints. I have had my fair share of BBQ and I wasn't super impressed with it, honestly. The wow factor wasn't there. The chili was good as were the ribs and turkey but the brisket was a little dry. I also liked the cornbread. 98 percent of the reason why I go to Lubbock instead of another city to transit to Clovis is this place. The beef rib is a little pricey, but I think worth every penny! Makes you wonder of their process to perfection. Their beef ribs is top notch! Hands down the best I've ever had. read more

Was kind of bummed. I'm a beef rib kind of guy. What?? No beef ribs on Wednesday?? Only on Friday & Saturday. No mention of that anywhere that I found. Well, we settled for sliced brisket sandwich. Got the 1/2 lb & my wife & I split it. It was good and tender. Did need bbq sauce. For sides we had green chile grits and the brisket chili. Both were very tasty. For service you walk up to the counter and told the cashier what you want, pay for it & then pick it up. They were very polite and lots of smiles. The restaurant was clean. I would go back only to try the beef ribs. read more

Hands down the best beef brisket I've ever had... moist, cut with fork tender, slightly peppery, smoky, no sauce needed. We also had the Turkey, baked potato casserole and green chili grits, all were good. Their sauce is vinegar-based, and not my favorite, but the meat we had didn't need any. We arrived at 11:30 on a Saturday and expected a huge line, but it wasn't too bad and we were seated and eating in just 20 minutes. Service was excellent. There's free cheep-beer too! read more

Some of the best barbeque I've ever had. The brisket was exquisite: the char was crumbly and flavorful, and the meat was soft but still had a satisfying bite to it. The sides were all delicious as well -- definitely get the jalepeño cornbread. This is the best meal I had all week in Lubbock. Definitely a must-go! read more

Probably the best BBQ I have ever had. Well worth the 3 hour drive. Had the 4 meat plate with jalapeño cornbread. The brisket was so moist with a beautiful smoker as well as the burn ends. The sausage was a green chili cheese sausage and the ribs fell of the bone. The staff were awesome. I got here 45 minutes before they opened and I was 12th person through the door with well over 60 people behind me. read more

I wish we would have been able to try this place because it was highly recommended by several local people, even the Uber driver. Evie Mae's opens at 11:00 for lunch and closes when they sell out, and we heard they usually sell out with the lunch crowd. We were in town for work and could not get out until dinner time. read more

I live in Dallas, but every time that I'm in Lubbock, I go to Evie Mae's. It is real deal TX BBQ! They started out with a BBQ trailer outside of town, just a few years ago and now they have a huge restaurant with lines out the door at times. That only happens when the food is great. Yes, you will more than likely stand in line, however you will be inside for the most part, and they have a trough full of beer that is free while you wait! Yes, free! If you are in Lubbock, this is an absolute must destination. Trust me, you will leave happy. read more

They are open for dine in service. There's going to be a line. We went Saturday at 10:45 am and there were at least 60 people already in line. The food was good. It's worth a trip back. I had the German sausage, smoked turkey, and green chili cheese grits. Rest of the table had brisket and gave it good reviews. read more

Amazing Barbecue! Evil Mae's is a super cool place outside Lubbock. The decor is nice and the place is very big. When I went I had the family plate with 1/2 lbs of each meat. Everything was great on it. But the Burnt ends were to die for. They were sold out of beef ribs both times I went which makes me want them even more!!! They have great deserts and honestly there wasn't anything that I had that I didn't enjoy. I will definitely be returning, if you do plan to make a trip there be aware that they sell out of everything if you don't go early enough. It is ALWAYS busy no matter when you go so keep that in mind too. They definitely deserve their hype though read more

Visiting Lubbock for Softball. We were asked to join another family for lunch. Soooo glad we did! Everything we had was amazing! Ribs, burnt ends, brisket, baked potato casserole, and the green beans, not to mention the banana pudding, strawberry pie, and the cheesecake! OMG! The line was out the door, but so worth the wait. We even had one of the owners check on us, and took the time to chat. She was very sweet. If you are in Lubbock you have to check it out! Come early, because they run out of food! read more

Had a lunch to kill so headed back to see if anything has changed. Sliced brisket was pretty good, though wish there was just a little more of it. BBQ sauce seems to have changed just a tad and is now "not too bad." Jalapeño cornbread aren't muffins anymore but still tasty. Coconut cream pie fell a bit flat compared to memory, but covid taste modification could be to blame there. Got some pork ribs to go and they were good reheated. So they've definitely improved over past experiences (brisket at one time or another just tasted like roast, but currently tastes smoked!). Lots of seating; parking is luck of the draw which is why I only attempt to go during off peak hours. Service was friendly and efficient. read more

We arrived at 11:30 on Good Friday and were initially concerned the long line would force us to abandon hope as we had somewhere to be by 2 PM. To our delight the line moved incredibly efficiently and we were handed our food in 30-40 minutes. I got the beef rib, coleslaw and jalapeño cheese cornbread. My wife ordered sliced brisket, burnt ends with green beans and the jalapeño cheese cornbread as well. Beef rib - tender and delicious with a strong, blackened peppery coating. So good, if not a little bit fatty, but that is expected with this cut. Sliced brisket - my wife let me have a taste and it was just about perfect to my likes. Peppery, moist without being fatty. Burnt ends - again, so good and moist. Green beans were arguably the best I have ever eaten. I try to stick to Texas Monthly Top 50 when traveling in Texas and I have never been disappointed. If I ever end up in Lubbock again, I would go with Sliced Brisket over the Beef Rib, mostly based on the fact that brisket had just the right amount of fat to my taste. the best food in lubbock HANDS DOWN! every time my family visits me we always have to eat here! service is super friendly! i love it here and i always feel welcomed. the place feels super homely. i recommend getting there before 11:30 because the line will be out the door. food is phenomenal and well priced. the brisket is our favorite and it practically melts in your mouth. the rest of the meat is equally as good. the flavor is just perfect and the sauce pairs well with it. all the appetizers are great, the jalapeño grits being a favorite in my family. we've had the dessert once there but the s'mores pie was to die for! overall, i could eat here every weekend. i have taken all my friends here and i highly recommend this place to everyone!! 10/10 read more

This is my very first time eating at this establishment, and I would like to say it's probably one of the worst barbecue places I've ever been to. I ordered the one meat plate (Brisket, Pinto Beans & Coleslaw). It came with 2 slices of brisket most of it was fatty. The coleslaw was sour but the beans were decent. Anyway, a friend of mine introduced me to this tiny little BBQ place in the middle of Wolfforth (right off brownfield highway headed towards lubbock) it's easy to miss, because the store front is a trailer, like, an actual trailer. So you kinda park wherever, go and stand in front of this inconspicuous trailer. this is when it gets fun, they have all your expected BBQ foods, brisket, turkey, sausage etc. get the brisket. the brisket is moist, flavorful, hands down the best BBQ in the lubbock area. get the brisket. the sausage was good, when I got it, but the brisket eclipsed it because I didn't want to stop eating it, in order to eat anything else. get the brisket. Evie Mae's serves the best BBQ in the western half of Texas, and maybe the whole state. The brisket is flavorful and so tender it almost melts in your mouth, the ribs are perfectly cooked and slide right off the bone. The turkey is moist, the sausage has greatly improved from their humble beginnings. The sides leave nothing to be desired. Pinto beans are often bland and uninteresting - that isn't the case here! Two varieties of cornbread, a few greens, and potato salad (baked and regular.) They also have excellent desserts, many of which are gluten free. Everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and helpful, even with a busy line and packed dining room. A classic burger done right. Crisp bun, juicy patty, stuffed with all the essentials (ketchup, shredded lettuce, tomato, and pickles). Once our meals arrived, it was time to dig in. The food was hot, prepared exactly as expected, and in typical Texas fashion there was more than we could expect to eat in a single sitting. At Chopped and Sliced BBQ, you will never leave hungry. Honorable mention to the fried Okra. I became the star of the night as almost everyone at the table couldn't get enough of it. Also, not sure if it was a regular or one-off, but the night we were dining in there was a man playing traditional Americana folk songs on guitar just inside by the entrance. He provided a nice relaxing atmosphere for the night without being too out or overbearing for my ears. I found myself tipping him on more than one occasion for his contributions to the evening.

Their brisket is delectable, their sausage has a perfect kick, and all their sides are delightful. One of their delights is the La Tia. A barbecue sandwich except it's served on a house-made concha. Holy smokes. It's sugary and if served with brisket, is a glorious creation. I was driving through Lubbock and had to make a stop when I found out they were serving barbecue on a Friday. I got their Brisket Specialty Taco: two corn tacos with beans, shredded cheese, fried egg, and, of course, brisket. In addition, because my greed has no bounds, I got their Philthy Taco: 2 corn tacos, fried egg, potatoes, salsa ranchero, queso, and their smoked barbacoa. I called ahead and ordered before they closed at 2 pm and picked them up right at 1:57 pm (praise the lord). I mowed down both of them. For two tacos, they are most filling. I would've been full off of one. I am still wowed by what they can whip up. It's to-go only as Jimenez runs a small little shop on 34th Street, but they pack it with a ton of love and might. She has been hyping up this joint forever and during this trip to her hometown, we ended up there on our first night we were in town. On the outside, it looks like the typical university food joint that could be at any university town across America. It was small with a few tables and booths and had stuff across the walls that yelled TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS so loud that it could be seen from the ISS. Apparently, the owner is a big fan and possibly an Alumna of TTU. We ordered the hand dipped mushrooms and onion rings to go along with our burgers. Little did I know what an experience the two appetizers would be. Lets just say that I have NEVER has such wonderful shrooms and rings ... ever. Thats saying something. The mushrooms are not the typical soft, mushy ones that many places serve out of the Sysco bags ... no, these were easily identifiable as button mushrooms even through the crispiness of the batter. Firm, sliceable and easily skewered by a fork to be dipped in ranch sauce. In short ... they were lip-smackin good. The onion rings, dipped in the same batter, cooked in the same oil and served at the same temperature were just as delectable. They were thick sliced sweet yellows that held their toothiness throughout the frying process. Just the bite into it was yummy, sweet and crispy ... all at the same time. These reminded me of the onion rings I used to get at Tookies down in Seabrook, Tx during the 70's and 80's. For my main, I chose the "Hotter than Hell Burger" with crinkle fries. I like hot and spicy and expected it to actually be hotter than it was. The sliced jalapeño and habanero spread were present and did the job of letting my taste buds know they were doing their job. It just wasn't the knockout I was expecting from a burger place serving university students that would eat really spicy stuff on a dare. Don't get me wrong, that burger was really good, just as my Wife said it would be. That statement is truth, not hype, but hotter than hell, naah. More like hotter than heck. My biggest disappointment was the limited selection of good beer. Light beer, cheap lagers and Mexican standards. Would it hurt to put in an IPA or a Stout? Overall, the staff were wonderful and answered any of the myriad of questions I had about their fare. It was an actual experience for me, especially after all of the hype my Wife told me over the decades. Usually, after a big span of time, places from our youth let us down.
