I am writing this review because I'm very upset reading these other reviews on yelp. Ewing towing and auto repair have been working on my cars for almost 20 years and its always been positive. I became a customer after they towed my car for improper parking. I was really mad like a lot of these other reviews but it was my screw up and I paid. You people that are giving this company a bad review because you parked in the wrong lot or your parking permit wasn't displayed properly (that's why I was towed) or was expired and now you want to blame them for your mistake. I sit in that waiting room when getting a repair done and people come in screaming and yelling at the poor office manager likes its his fault you were towed. I have never seen a human being get treated the way he gets treated and he stays calm, doesn't scream back. My kids are now students at UofD and have also had their cars towed for improper parking (at a friends apt). So to all you reviewers mad at a company for doing the job they're contracted to do, you don't know what your talking about. I have seen people give descriptions of the "big Godzilla driver that tried to intimidate me" but there are no drivers that work there that look or act like that. These drivers take crap from people like us and are some of the most professional tow drivers I have ever dealt with. It's understandable to be upset when they tow you but you need to own up to your to your mistakes. Ewing Towing is not scamming you, those guys are very regulated and cannot just randomly tow someone, they are following the law and have been doing this job for a very long time and they're still there because they are a proper trustworthy company that operates withing the laws of Newark. If you don't believe me, go get an oil change or tire rotation and sit in the waiting room and see how "customers" treat these guys and how professional they keep their demeanor. Its mindblowing how horrible people can be to another human being. read more

Shout out to Ewing Towing for not only wrongfully towing my car from my apartment complex but also for damaging it in the process. Car was towed from apartment for "not displaying the parking permit" but was done so at 2:49 in the morning like they were on a repossession mission? Walked out the following evening to leave for work and it was just... gone. No notice from my property manager or the tow company. After reporting the car stolen and NCCP figuring out it was towed to Ewing, I was told BY Ewing to show up at 9am the following morning with proof of ownership. Showed up to a locked door and called the oh so pleasant gentleman who told me they would release cars between 3pm and 4pm, to bring $250 CASH and my drivers license. Showed up at 3:30pm, was told that it was now $300, and was met with quite an attitude (because "it was his last weekend working there and he didn't give a ****"). You'd think I towed his car! Wild. To put the cherry on top, when I walked out to the lot to get the BRAND NEW car, I noted pretty significant damage to the front lip and bumper where I can only assume it had been improperly taken off the flatbed. "Not their problem" though, is what I was told. I guess "safe and damage free transport" doesn't apply here. If they can't tow a car without damaging it, I can't imagine the caliber of work that comes out of their auto shop. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Solid work, guys. read more

THEY DID NOT FIX MY CAR. THEY MADE IT WORSE. Do not get your car fixed here. And their store manager some guy called John/Taylor I dont know which one, VERY RUDE !!!! Stop being a towing company that would help . Not helpful, dirty building, rude staff. Scam business

My car was towed from where it was getting fixed at. from an "unauthorized parking spot" that it sat in "unauthorized" for 2 weeks. having the car from 8am to 3pm costed $350 plus a $100 "labor fee" because they put the tire back on. the tire that was off because it wasn't safe to be put on. they took my car off the jack it was being held up with & magically don't know where it is (judging by other reviews missing items are expected with these people). you had to take the car off the jack & move the jack to move the car so how don't you know where it is (that jack wasn't cheap). on top of that i asked about their certifications to even fix a bmw (i considered letting them fix it) & was met with an attitude just making sure they are qualified to do so which they aren't. total was over $400. keep in mind because my car was in the middle of getting fixed my shock wasn't bolted into the car & the pieces under the hood were disassembled ready for repair. it could've all fell apart causing more damage. they moved my car with 0 knowledge. they could've took my car off the jack and it fell to the ground they had no idea about it. now on my receipt there's damage circled on the other side of the car which there was no damage before. now i'm waiting for a bill from my mechanic stating if any further damages were made. every time i mention this place to someone they have a story. they also force you to pay in cash which is real weird. this place needs to be shut down. a bunch of money hungry people who have no idea what they are even doin. Update: now there's $8,000 worth of damage to my car. broken axel and all that. the car ended up being totaled because the damage was so extensive. thank you ewing. read more

This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with my car being towed. I came to get my belongings, and they stole what they wanted and gave me two dirty bins with the items they didn't take, which included my grandson's car seat and reusable grocery bags. They stole my DMV vanity tag, my Eagles glass vanity tag, tools, a storage container, my seat covers and many other items too numerous to name. They should have to video the items in your car as they are being removed, take a picture of the items and have a list of the items that came from your car. Because they don't do this, they can take whatever they want, and your only proof is your word (or in my case receipts of purchase). I will not let these thieves get away with this. My son went to pick up his car from Ewings after he was towed. The gas in his car was siphoned and the cover to his gas tank was tore off. After reading all these horrible reviews I have no doubt it happened at Ewings. He also has scratches on his car. He was towed from a busy shopping plaza and in front of a bank, so no doubt someone at the tow yard took his gas and damaged his car. It's a shame they take advantage of the kids at UD. read more

My wife's Fiat 500 began making a growling sound that persisted. While driving to work, all her engine lights came on and the car died just as she pulled into a parking space at her place of employment. Being new to the area, I went on Yelp to find a repair shop. Ewing Towing and Auto Repair had many positive reviews for their auto service and I stopped in to make an appointment. They informed me they could arrange the towing and get the car into the garage that day. By mid-afternoon they called to say it would take two days for the part to be shipped in from another state. If I could leave no starts I would. This place was referred to us so we decided to allow to work on my truck. The truck needed a wiring harness, this harness was on back order for months. I called ford myself to see if it was still on back order and was told it wasn't any longer on back order. I called to tell ewing auto repair to let them know and was told by the big guy that answers the phone all day * oh I haven't checked in weeks* I'm pissed at this point because you had my truck for 5 months and it wasn't a priority to you. He is nasty and dismissive af. Not only did they tell me I needed a wiring harness, I also needed an body valve, o2 sensor and some other bs.. 5700 to get it out. I drive not even a mile and the engine light comes on.....wtf. this place is the worst and I'm discussed with the big guy that answers the phone all day.. I came to Delaware to visit my sister and she lives in a complex where you have to park in a visitors parking spot which was full from all the residents parking in those spots even when there was plenty of parking for all the residents, anyways so I drove around the complex to find a visitors parking spots because each section of the complex has visitors parking so I found a spot where it says visitors parking that had 7 slots there was 2 slots opened so I parked there even when I was worried leaving it there because I couldn't see my car from where my sisters apt was so the next morning my car was gone they towed my car and I asked why because I was in visitors parking , they said only 4 cars can park there, I took a picture of the parking area and they said there should of been another sign there that someone took it down, how am I suppose to know that ewing towing are scammers they sit around watching people park they took that sign down so they can make 200.00 off of everyone that parks there if I lived here I would of taking action against them so I'm hoping someone does because their taking money out of people's pockets that don't have it. read more

They are a bunch of crooks. I called to see if the could give me an estimate on my car to get it repaired and they told me to bring it to the shop. They did not state it was a price for the estimate. When I showed up, they wanted me to leave my car but I couldn't they still didn't tell me it was an fee for the estimate. When I called to arrange a day to drop my car off, they still never said there was a fee for the estimate. When I dropped my car off .", still no fee for the estimate. When they called me to tell me what was wrong and how much it was going to cost, they then said it would be $110. They put my car behind the gates where they tow the cars because they thought I was not going to pay. When I confronted them about why they never said anything about the fee.The guy was very Rude and Nasty towards me... Don't EVER do business with them. read more

I have dealt with this company multiple times because I keep making the same mistakes but that's beside the point their customer service is utterly fucking horrible literally had a guy take someone's payment to get their car dropped using a credit card for 150 drop fee, but wouldn't take mine even though he said he would take my credit card he stated that he made a mistake but he wasn't supposed to do that but now he can't make an exception for me I call bullshit the other person was a man and I am a women. Literally in my pajamas with no shoes on taking stuff out of my car while watching them tow my vehicle but he made an exception for that one guy but didn't make an exception for me. To me it seems that he didn't expect the second person's car that they were towing (mine) to come out; and It was willing to cut a deal for the guy, Because he knew he was guaranteed a one car for towing for training purposes. JERK. Now I have to pay 170, why is it 170 when I have paid 145 in the past...and before that 130. They are a scam artist ripping people off left and right. I parked in a lot designated for both residents of an apartment building and customers of businesses attached to the lot. I was the latter in this situation. There was a sign that read "PARKING RESERVED FOR THE EXCLUSIVE USE OF RESIDENTS AND CUSTOMERS ALL OTHERS WILL BE TOWED AWAY AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE - EWING TOWING" That's all well and fine. I can read a sign. The lot was pretty full, so I didn't realize that some of the spots were numbered and some were not. The numbered spots are apparently designated for the "RESIDENTS" listed on the sign; however, there was no indication that numbered spots were exclusively for residents anywhere in the lot. When one of the shop workers noticed the tow truck, my sister was hailed out of the business before my car left the lot to try to stop the driver. Despite making eye contact with the driver and fervently waving her hands, he sped off with my car to ensure the tow. When we called the company to follow up, they were short and apathetic. The rep on the other end said that he can't expect his drivers to know that someone trying to flag them down was "the owner of the car." Fantastic business man, that one. When I got to the lot to pick up my car, I tried explaining to the man behind the desk that the sign was misleading. If the spots were only for residents, then it should explicitly say so without mentioning "customers." He told me that I clearly don't know how to interpret a sign and that's not his problem. He also said that the business should have warned me. Well, they didn't and I'm sorry for not being clairvoyant. When I started arguing with him, especially because the tow was completely unreasonable, he threatened to keep my car, increase the cost of release, and call the cops. Just to put this situation into perspective, I'm a petite female, and the man who felt "threatened" by my arguing was easily three times my weight. I explained that I wasn't from the area, and he responded with a "thank god because we don't want you here." Beautiful. The short of it: I paid $102 dollars to reclaim my car after parking in a spot that was poorly labelled by a crooked towing company. read more

Ewing towing company is the worst place ever to go. I was towed from parking in my own apartment lot, and the service was extremely unpleasant and rude upon my arrival. I was unable to make it before 5 pm as I had class and could not get a ride, so I had to wait until later when they were closed and came the next day, only to be greeted with a nasty, dirty man who was overly rude and not understanding. I will never recommend this place to anyone for any of their services, and I hope they are out of business sooner than later for the sake of the city of Newark and its residents. The other reviews for this business are focused on the towing aspect of the business. Mainly how their vehicle was towed. I'm offering feedback on them as an autos hop. Originally, I went to a different auto shop and they hooked the computer to my car and said a sensor was to be replaced and to fix it would be $250. That's a lot of money. So to do a price comparison we took it to Ewing. They hooked the computer up to it and said the same thing except they were going to charge $335. I said no thanks well come pick it up because the other place will do it for $250. Then ROCK at Ewing says okay if you pay us an $85 diagnostic fee. Then you can take it to them. I'm amazed at how they strong armed me into making me fix the car for a higher price. Eventually he said there was a discount and it was $294. They did not tell us there would be an $85 fee if we don't use them. That's wrong and deceptive and the previous mechanic never did that. I've never heard of that. They may have gotten the money out of us now. But they lost a customer for life. read more

We got towed for being in a Burger King parking lot, which we didn't know was not allowed considering their was one sign we didn't pass. We asked the employees inside if they towed us, they said they didn't and to check the sign outside. After looking for it, we called the number and left a message and took a lyft to the address. If I could give this business zero stars, I would, but the lowest allowed is 1 star. This company is ignorant, vulgar, and disrespectful. My car was towed from an apartment complex on South Main street. I was parked in an blank spot (no number assigned). My friends live in the complex, so I am a frequent visitor. I am also I member of Tantini & Atexquita, 2 businesses located on this strip of stores. Not once in the past 2 & a half years of living in newark, have I ever had my car towed from this area. Recently, I walked out at 2am to drive my friends home (all of whom were intoxicated). My car was missing, but in front of me there was a tow trunk. I called the man standing 20 feet in front of me, but he ignored me every time. I walked face to face with him & told him my car was gone from a blank parking spot. He said the complex called to get my car towed (Tsionas apartments). I called the complex on Monday morning just for them to tell me they in fact are not open on the weekends & did not call. The man directed me to my car & said it was a $100 flat rate immediately. I told him that all of the people behind me had their cars in the blank spots, but are intoxicated & cannot move them. He shrugged him shoulders & told me to get my car immediately. I was able to get to the store within 15 minutes. I called 4 different numbers because the number they give you does not ring through. I was able to get in contact by pressing the dispatch number. They were no help & I told them I was going to call the police because the man told me I could pick my car up right now for $100. Magically, they put me in contact with a man & he showed up in less than a minute (ended up being the man who towed my vehicle). He told me he did not receive my calls, I then showed him my 14 calls directly placed to his phone (see photo attached). How convenient right? We walked in the office & I requested an itemized list of what I was being billed for. He laughed & said they do not do that & that he does not "even know what that is". An itemized list specifies what you are being charged for; gas, towing, etc. Hadded a $2.70 service charge because I used a debit/credit card. I reminded him again that now many intoxicated drivers are on the road putting themselves in danger, as well as the people in their car & the regular drives on the road. His response was "yup". I have evidence of everything that occurred because this company is shady & will deny any allegation against them. Their business has signs that you cannot be verbally abusive or they will charge the max amount ($250), yet they are allowed to treat you with utter disrespect. I will be filing a complaint with Newark County Police department to get this business shut down! I had an incident where i parked my car in a lot on Friday evening while out to dinner. the sign in the lot stated parking exclusive for residents and customers. the sign did not state numbered parking spaces were not to be parked in. I called the towing company I didn't get the persons name but he definitely told me he was the manager. I asked him if he had my car and explained the sign in which he rudely responded "its common courtesy"!! He told me it would cost $100.00 to get my car where to pick it up and rudely hung up on me. Went to pick up my car. Paid the 100 in cash yes the "manager" did apologize but in reality that is not how you do business. Especially when you can see the sign clearly does not have exclusions to where you cant park. Keep the cash its obvious you needed it more than me. thanks read more

I had the most horrible experience at this shop. I am a single mom who is on a strict budget so every dollar counts so they wanted to put OEM in my older SUV and then when I told them where I ordered the part from they said"make sure you double check that the part is in stock bc we ordered the same part from summit and it took 3 weeks to get it (but you wanted to sell me OEM parts) Then I was quoted one price and when I came to pick up my car it was a completely different price ( like $70 more) then the guy at the desk Rock provided me the worst customer service. I bought my own part and the moment I got there he proceeded to tell me that the part was junk and that he would have never put that in the car. I researched the part before I bought it and found no bad reviews AT ALL!!! so that should have been a red flag, so I paid the extra money and drove my car I was about halfway home and I heard a loud sound and then my car was vibrating. I called the shop on my way home to advise of the noise and vibration and Rock proceeded to say "I told you that was a cheap part but if you want to bring it down here we can take a look at it" with a miserable attitude. When I got home I proceeded to get under the car and found there was a slice in the rubber boot and brand new grease sprayed all over under my car. I called Rock the next day and proceeded to tell him about the slice and he said I told you we don't warranty when the customer buys the part, and that is fine I understand that if the part fails that is on me but not when the part was damaged. I asked him if the part was damaged why did they install it on my car he stumbled over his words and said they couldn't see the boot I was able to see the boot and the tear why couldn't they? Rock is just a miserable human being and I wouldn't trust my mom or my grandmother to go there. At the end of the day I took my car to 896 Shell and Anthony took great care of me and I would trust sending my mom or grandmother there.. read more

If I could give no stars I would. They towed my car from my parking spot because some random person called in thinking it shouldn't be there... in the spot I pay for. They refused to release my vehicle to me unless I paid them and told me I had to take it up with the person who called it in (but also refused to tell me who that was). I'm a single parent who had just moved to the area with no family or friends near by so I became very upset that I wasn't going to pick my son up from school on time. The "men" (more like childish bullies) began saying "boo-whoo! Waaa! Oh too bad so sad!" mocking my concern over my kindergarten aged son and said that I deserved it. On a road trip over 400 miles from home on 95 our car started sounding and driving funny . We took the first exit thank God it happen to be the exit to Ewing . They fixed the problem quickly and were very nice and professional !Great place to get your vehicle fixed! read more

This place is a shit show. Very unprofessional, rude and unorganized bunch. Every last one is a crook. My car was in an accident and Ewing was called to tow my car. The guy said he would estimate the cost of repairs on my vehicle at no cost. A few days later he said it would cost 7000 to fix plus 100 for his estimation fees. Needless to say I didn't get it fixed from them. My actual mechanic replaced 2 parts under a grand and the car has been running for a year since the incident. Can you give less than 1 Star? I'm sure that working at a towing company is stressful and filled with pissy people that want their cars back. Of course I feel like my story is different. My car got towed. Acceptable. Apparently the condo association that I live in has Ewing drive around late at night and look at cars tags, if they are expired, they tow you. Sucked to be me. So when I called Ewing to find out why my car was towed, the person I spoke with was less than unhelpful. He started with an attitude with my wife (5 month's pregnant so that lasted about 30 seconds), then she handed me the phone. I asked the cranky Ewing employee why they towed our car and he copped an attitude. He tried to explain the process and when I had questions for him and tried to completely comprehend why I was towed, he became very short and aggressive that I still had questions about his how things worked. To say his was unhelpful would be an understatement. I was just trying to learn something new and definitely didn't want to have it happen again but he had apparently spent his 90 seconds allotted per customer. Another thing, before hanging up the phone, the employee said that payment was required and that if we chose to use credit card, there would be a $3.00 fee. Upon arrival, they said they would accept no payment other than credit card. I see what you did there. Not a surprise the company starts with Ew. Avoid at all costs. read more

Not even surprised when reading the other comments. My car was towed from a development that has no restrictions displayed. The reason behind my car being towed is cause "my tags are expired". My tags are not expired in fact I had the proof to show for it. They removed my car overnight cause my sticker indicated it was expired as I am currently waiting for my new ones to arrive with a delay in the mailing system. If my license plate had been ran they would've seen this. I do not understand how they have the right to take someone's property without a valid reason and then proceed to penalize them. I'm now down 280$, missed a day of work and drove for one hour just to get it out of the lot. Nobody wants to take ownership of this situation. When I called the newcastle county police department they told me "wow! There was a lot of cars taken from there last night" like it was a common joke. Now if I want to go to court to proof that this is a completely invalid charge I'll lose money, time and patience. They beat the system! Congratulations! read more

I was actually really impressed because I called the number on the sign, and 30 minutes later I had my car back. My car was towed from the Villas Apartment on Wednesday morning at 3am because supposedly I was park in a fire lane. There was no sign that specifies that it is a fire lane because people park there all the time and it just had to be my car that park in that spot Tuesday night and get my car towed at 3am from Ewing Towing. The Manager Rock that I spoke to was rude and extremely unprofessional. I don't know why he is a manager because he has no customer service skills nor does he have people skills. He was disrespectful to me over the phone and in person. For example, he got mad because he said I don't take debit or credit cards, I only take cash. I have never been to a towing company that doesn't take debit or credit cards. Then Manager Rock proceeded to yell at me and said well I told you over the phone, cash only. I told him you didn't say cash only to me and I held my composure and walk out of the store to the ATM. He charge me $170 for the tow and $40 a day for storage. Who does this, does he not know the world is in the middle of a money crisis because of COVID-19, this is ridiculously. Oh and the first time I talk to him I told him well why didn't he just give me a warning and he said, if I gave out warnings I wouldn't be able to put fuel in my truck. He never could tell me why he charge me $170 over the phone nor in person. What is the world coming to? You will notice that people that have their cars worked on provide great reviews, and the idiots that parked illegally and had their cars towed left bad reviews! Learn how to read signs people, and quit leaving bad reviews because you were towed!! I have been using Ewings for years, and never had a problem, and they guarantee all repairs for one year.
